@tpia After spending months with tutors memorising the word and taking and failing exams on how to spell it,our government bandies the word about to fool us into thinking they have some idea of how to run a country. At least China doesn't simper and act coy,and pretend to be a democracy. |
@iice I know!Oh my! The guy has absolutely the sexiest voice on planet earth! This dark, intoxicating drawl. Leave Nicole Kidman alone ![]() Zellwegger I raised a brow at while watching one of her interviews. She was promoting some movie,I forget which.I totally loved her in Bridget Jones Diary (first instalment) and wondered what was now wrong with her. She kept hiding her face in the couch and letting loose annoying bursts of silly, high-pitched laughter and talking like some 2 year old's doll.Still like her movies though. All except Me,Myself and Irene, which wasn't funny. @Gamine Time was when Will Smith pulled me to his movies like a magnet. Men in Black! Bad Boys!Hitch! And he gave the performance of his career in The Pursuit of Happyness. He blew me away. But the guy's appearing in nonsense movies these days. One more movie like Hancock and I'll stop watching anything of his. Tell him o. What's wrong with Travolta? |
No sane or responsible government locks people up because of anything they might have written. Haba! I agree with those who say anybody in Nigeria aspiring to public office must undertake and PASS psychiatric evaluation. We have sociopaths, pyschopaths, paranoid asses and kleptomaniacs in government, and there's nothing in place to curb their excesses. They've turned the concept of government upside down and now it's no longer recognisable. There are some in posh public offices who can't even spell the word. Yeye people. E bami kigbe ole o!Ole Ole Ole Ole Ole! |
O Brother Where Art thou Undercover Brother Borat Scary Movie (first instalment) Kung Fu Hustle (One of the funniest movies on the planet. Stephen Chow is INSANE) The Pink Panther/ A Shot in the Dark (With Peter Sellers) Zoolander Munna Bhai MBBS (The funniest Indian movie ever) |
Don't mind iice. It's cos she couldn't have Ken ![]() Working and watching Linkin Park and Coldplay videos. Have no idea what movie to watch this weekend. Perhaps a musical.Hairspray,maybe. |
Lovely movie. |
LOL. Wickie wickie wicked Spiked. ![]() |
He's saying it has been broken down for you. What the heck are you whining about? Last I recall they made the frigging movie in English, not Urdu. Buzz off? Little wonder you don't know a damn thing. |
I've read Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad. He's a great writer. If he wrote espionage I'm checking it out! |
Nicole Kidman is just OK? You've seen her in Dogville or The Hours or The Others, haven't you? I don't know what she did in COLD MOUNTAIN, I oogled Jude Law throughout. He was everything a leading man should be:arresting and anguished and enigmatic and delicious. Kidman is an excellent actress o. But for the decade or so she was married to Cruise the silly twit shoved her career in the background while Cruise grinningly prospered. Gamine, you cried at Finding Nemo? What's to cry over? The two of them were re-united,weren't they? |
True,VIKI's wasn't a revolution. The little psychobot was acting for the Greater Good and when she was destroyed the robots went back to silicon meadows and apple pies.VIKI demonstrates that rebellion may find its way out of the 3 Laws, something Lanning had foreseen and which he witnesses first hand. SONNY was created to transcend the limitations of the Laws,is furnished with something dangerously close to a soul and free will. But it wasn't an accident:He was designed by Lanning to be precisely what he was, programmed with a very human instinct for self-preservation, otherwise anyone could order it to stand still and then blow its head off. Perhaps 'random bits of code, errors, etc' gave rise to VIKI? Surely someone who can foresee a VIKI and create a SONNY in response to it can foresee the long-term consequences of a SONNY? He does foresee it, that's why he goes ahead to create a robot that can overcome rogue robots in the system now and forevermore. But Lanning has the foresight to create only one. Perhaps because one is all that is necessary. I don't see anything insidious about SONNY. VIKI did teleguide the NS-5s in her rebellion. That was how she managed her 'revolution'. Two questions: When the NS-5s were being rounded up,ostensibly to be destroyed, and SONNY ambles to the rise and is spotted, how did they discern the Messiah cometh? How did they know to seek refuge from destruction from him? How do they KNOW? Is it inconceivable that SONNY might fulfil his messianic duties without a revolution?Remember those NS-5s are still guided by the 3 Laws and since SONNY cannot teleguide them like VIKI did, how can he co-opt them into his revolution? And even if he did somehow manage to get all those robots, who do not enjoy the free will he does, to agree to a revolution, why would he want to? Why would he want to 'take over' the human race? Nothing indicates he has any such ambition. Finally, perhaps SONNY isn't the savior of the robot race, but of both races. He is comprised of the qualities that make robots robots and humans human. Perhaps he was created to protect himself, robots and Humans from the VIKIs that must inevitably be thrown up by errors in the system. When those robots spot him I see they see hope, but I still don't get how they recognised who and what he was so immediately, and run to him for refuge. |
lol! |
Espionage? I'm not really a fan. Too caught in classics- I love beautiful prose. But I remember I LOVED Robert Ludlum,Jack Higgins,Jeffrey Archer and John Le Carre, who is perhaps the best. Not sure Higgins qualifies as espionage, though. |
I've read only his Time Machine.Veddy lovely, veddy British SF.Wasn't he the one who caused a panic when his story was broadcast on radio aeons ago?Listeners thought there'd been an invasion. AI didn't bore me for a minute. Perhaps because Haley Joel Osment cannot. At least, not yet. Awww. Vesc is a sweetie. |
Alan Shore's fabulous, isn't he? Heroes and Lost in the same sentence? They are not even on the same planet, much less the same league. |
Nope. I only knew there was a movie called Mad Max a few weeks ago, while going through bios of some of my favourite directors,George Miller, Tarantino, Baz Lurhmann, etc, and spotted it amongst Miller's movies. I was amazed, read up on the movie, instantly recalled the Tina Turner soundtrack,Beyond the Thunderdome, and was amazed some more. I love George Miller, for Babe and Happy Feet. His movies are like modern parables with simple themes, but with serious messages hidden within. Baz Lurhmann I would abandon Watanabe for and run away with if he asked me. He's a genius. Heyyy. We have Forrest, Happy Feet,LOTR and The Sound of Music in common. Fun With Privates and Jane? @Vesc LOTR is on my list. Sin City is visually arresting, raw, visceral, stunning. All the characters took my breath away (except Jessica Alba). Elijah Wood was chilling. Unforgettable. Haven't seen it again since. It's just one of those movies you must not watch often. Finding Nemo is simply flawless. The Omen is on your list of favourite movies? Snatch. Frigging hilarious. |
There is something subtle and sinister in the theme. There's a feeling of dread, a foreboding as the film plays out, and when the robots attack you're almost relieved. I was somewhat unsatisfied with the ending. I didn't like the film's effects, and the tunnel scene where they coolly unleash their roboty selves with manic relentlessness upon Smith had me gritting my teeth. Bad CGI.Too obvious. If you want really disturbing sci-fi, Spielberg's A.I is it. I have read Asimov'S FOUNDATION series, but not I,Robot, and have no doubt the book will be far superior to the movie. The movie might have taken liberties with the plot, and if there are mysteries, the book, truer to the author's vision, will furnish answers. I read Stephen Baxter's Vacuum Diagrams months ago. Baxter wanted to be an austonaut. Failing that,he opted for the next best thing:SciFi writing. The book is a collection of short stories, each contributing to its central themes of displacement, death, hope, and the rebirth of man and the universe, He creates a truly memorable SF experience. There's no one like ASIMOV, of course. |
NAOH and Hydantoin are in a huge percentage of cosmetics, from Jergens to Johnsons to Clinique to Philosopy, and are harmless,I think. How harmful can something put in drinking water be? But the immunotoxicity thing sounds serious. |
When I first read your post I was all sympathy.I thought the guy used you and dumped you. Then you furnished an explanation and it wasn't that at all. You admit your man is infuriatingly self-controlled. I know how annoying that can be when you're ripping the world to shreds and he's as cool as ice water. You feel like murdering the bastid for having it together like that. But you also like that he's so calm and mature. The problem is you think you may act however you wish, because the unspoken agreement is there that you're the baby and he's the adult and he has to take it. You can be bitter and angry and demanding, and bat your eyes later when you're in a better mood. You've taken his calm for granted. I think you have a nice guy. He's put up with your immaturity and anger and bitterness, and wanted some space to think about whether he wants more of it. How would you like a steady diet of anger? If your roles were reversed would you put up with your own behavior? HE HASN'T SAID YOU'RE BREAKING UP. He said he wanted space, and your pride is so deeply hurt you want to harm him. Look at your reaction to his request for space! You want to have him beaten up, you want him raped, you want his car burnt,ad nauseam. What's the matter with you? If you can lose it like this and threaten him on a public thread, lawd knows how you behave in your relationship. Grow up, give the guy the space he needs, and do something about your anger and immaturity.I very much doubt he's seeing anyone else. He's likely thinking over whether he wants to continue the relationship, like he said. You have a nice guy but he's getting fed up,and it doesn't occur to you that the problem might not be him,but YOU. You want people to pat your back and condemn him. But the misery's going to be all yours when you lose this guy through no one's fault but your own. You love him. You're missing him. You're imagining all sorts of things. It's driving you crazy, being without him. Does he love you? If you're sure he still loves you and you haven't driven him away with your silliness, call him and meet, and tallk your souls out.And don't go like some diva who expects to be kow-towed to. Be sincere and warm and true to your feelings, and dignified, not proud.Someone once said that you not only have to find the right person, you have to be the right person for the person you have found. |
@Vescucci, If you liked Catch 22 you'll enjoy Good as Gold by the same author. Read any good crime fiction lately? I have my Dad's John Creasey and Agatha Christie collection, and I'm eyeing Murder on the Orient Express. Hercule Poirot. What are you reading? @ Kay9, Do I know what you mean or what? You're gritting your teeth with each page turned but cant put the thing down till it's finished. But A Clockwork Orange is slowly turning into something strange and interesting, though I'm still pissed at the invented language. |
Lost ( most compelling characters of any tv series) Boston Legal (wittiest dialogue) Desperate Housewives (just plain love it) Fiery Force (fav naija series. An oldie but goodie) Cockrow at Dawn (loved its theme music, and liked them alll, even Uncle Gaga.) Man in a Briefcase The Professionals(CI5) The Saint Love thy Neighbour 'Allo 'Allo Obalende Hawaii 5-0 Cant stand Heroes,I watched the first season only cos I liked the two Japanese buddies. Don't understand all the noise about Prisonbreak:the older brother over-acts,but I liked the psycho a lot. House bores me.The lead character doesn't engage me,however perverse he tries to be. Someone recommended Scrubs and I'm checking that out. |
The thing is scary o. As a rule I avoid horror movies like the plague, but when I saw The Omen I couldn't resist. I wanted to see if it would scare me still. Part 2 was the scariest for me. I put it on and there was Julia Stiles prancing about the screen! A frigging re-make! Forres Gump is on my list of ALL-TIME favourite movies. Those are 20 movies I venerate and don't watch often, and then often as a reward to myself. FIGHT CLUB's there. As well as AMERICAN BEAUTY, AS GOOD AS IT GETS, HAPPY FEET and MOULIN ROUGE. Which are your favourites? |
@Gamine I use Prism, spf 50 sunscreen. It's a sports sunscreen, and works extremely well. It's highly recommended. @Marhd Your hair's falling out? Are you conditioning it regularly? You should have a heat cap, which works with any good conditioner. Mix a whole egg, raw,to a good conditioner, apply thoroughly to hair and steam your hair in the heat cap for an hour. Or wrap a hot towel around it for 45 minutes to an hour. Shampoo with baby a shampoo, the milder your shampoo the better. Towel dry and apply a little 911 leave-in conditioner. Allow hair to air-dry,and then apply a good hair cream. Never comb your hair with small-toothed combs. Start with large toothed combs and then a medium-toothed. Never comb when hair's wet. Condition your hair AT LEAST once a month. If you're weaving your hair and it's too tight, your hair WILL come out by the roots. When you loosen the braids and comb it,you get a huge mass of broken-off hair. Don't let your hair be styled or woven too tightly. When you loosen it apply 911 or any good leave-in conditioner first before you brush it out. |
Heard of Makari. They were touting it as the Second Coming for skin care. I'd heard only rave reviews. A friend asked me to check out the ingredients. Er, it doesn't contain Mercury. But it contains skin bleaching ingredients, and that, only the safest. I told her I didn't find anything offending in the mix, but it bleaches skin. She tried the Caviar Face Cream and the Body Beautifying Milk. I think their ingredients are pretty strong cos she turned one funny colour like that. She couldn't determine the culprit, and stopped using both. She's gone back to what she was using before, Arden,Olay and Philosophy. |
Doesn't everybody? I fell forever in love with him in Forrest Gump. But that passion's long waned. Was Wilson's War good? Caught up in CSI (Las Vegas) on DVD.The first season was okay, but subsequent seasons are very good indeed, with greater depth to the characters. Took me a while to know who Hank's wife was. Someone said she appeared in Sleepless in Seattle as the wife of a friend, and that's when I 'got' her. Saw GhostBusters on DVD and snapped it up. Picked up OMEN without looking too closely, sat down to have the hair scared off my scalp, and then saw it was some stupid remake! Asses! How can anyone even attempt to re-make that masterpiece? And why isn't Hanks doing any new movies? I haven't seen him in anything since the Da Vinci Code, which could've been so much better. |
Reading CATCH 22 by Joseph Heller. I've not read anything like it before. It's so subversive and so FUNNY. I bought A CLOCKWORK ORANGE by Antony Burgess, and leafed through. It intrigued me, and thoroughly pissed me off. If I want something difficult I'll read James Joyce or Faulkner. I hate books that are difficult just to be difficult. I don't mind being given a hard time by Joyce,he's an almost incomparably beautiful writer and he rewards you on every page. But this frigging Burgess isn't using the language at all; the bastid had to go and invent slang and gutter patois for a nonexistent society, and writes mostly in that, and I'm pissed, because I know I'm going to read it. |
That Time is the most fragile and valuable thing we have, and to not waste it. There's only this one life and we aren't coming back again:this isn't a dress rehearsal, this is all there is. |
Aamir Khan rules. Who are all these Kapoors sef? Ah-han! Surname don finish for India? Abi na only one family big reach so? |
grand jedi:Brokeback Grand Jedi. Roger Moore ko, Roger Less ni. That simpering, annoying ass who's so unrealistic I grit my teeth every time he daintily sips champagne and shoots like somebody's 90-year-old grandma. Up Craig! Now there's a badass, there's the real deal. |
Great brand, isn't it? Clinique is overpriced and does nothing for me,but those three brands:Fantastic. Someone was hollering Obagi and I checked it out. All they're selling is hydroquinone. Eeek! I recently got a great bargain on the Arden product I use from Amazon. Saved over $200! Heaven! Great product but the prices just kill me. |
@origina9ja Na im o! I copi the thing from the website ho-ha. |
Unbelievable! I really liked his music. |
