PoliticsRe: What Will Happen If Jonathan Wins 2015 Presidential Election? by mandarin: 4:48pm On Jun 27, 2013
Just as an analyst lets look at all possibilities and permutations. The Northwest and Northeast will NOT vote for Jonathan whether he perform or not, its a tribal thing about the Presidency returning to the North and that will persist till then. With the President's support for the Southeast developmental programs(i like it though) he will win massively in the southeast and south south(a strong possibility).
The President is left with two regions that can make or mar his ambition the southwest and the middle belt regions. He certainly needs the southwest to win, honestly and honestly being the second largest voting bloc in Nigeria and unlike in 2011 that the President was always in Lagos virtually every evening to make up with the likes of Tinubu and ACN,that may not work in 2015.
The greatest threat to the President is any alliance that can pull 80% of votes in the Northwest/Northeast/Southwest in favor of opposition candidate. That will give the opposition an easy majority votes. The middle Belt is another problem that can be either way for the President for instance Niger, Adamawa and Nasarawa are not likely to be won by the President and with ACN performance in Kwara and Benue the last election, its not looking rosy except anyone just wish to brag in his/her sitting room. This is not a chest thumbing stuff but the wisdom of opposition to put all their eggs in a basket so as to ensure there is no votes division.
I do not really believe the current merger will solve Nigeria's problem but its geared at dislodging the ruling party and its power base in the west which would have been a help for the President does not exist anymore because people love their governors across the region and even with Fasheun's UPN, it still will not work may be except the President do extra ordinary things.
I think the President made the mistake of sidelining the Yoruba people and hiring one of them to tongue lash them! These were the same people that advocated resource control for Niger Deltans and I don't think there is much he can do to persuade them.
The ensuing political clime will do Nigeria good because it will break all the politicians asunder.JUST MY OPINION

bilms: You didnt answer the question. Mention just 3 things fashola has done to favor the masses,or even one.
He established different agencies as LAMATA, LASTMA etc all these provided employments
Meanwhile you must understand how economy works in a state like Lagos where crime and infrastructures play huge. He improved the security of lives and properties organize markets to reduce street urchin activities and has helped tha masses in health, many poor pay less to get treated. Lagos is not your kind of state that can distribute motorcycles or Napep tricycles, its supposed to be the pacesetting state in modernity.
About Okada ban, it was a necessary evil because of the accidents it caused(happened to an Akwa Ibomite colleague in the office on the Island), the use of motorcycle for daylight robbery(I was a victim some years back)so it was a necessary thing to do my friend.
If you think building roads alone or an airport is development no qualms but if all these plans in Lagos should work plus its Aje oil, Lagos will be a globally reckoned metropolis like it or not.

PoliticsRe: Why Fashola Is The Best Option For Nigeria Come 2015. by mandarin: 11:34am On Jun 26, 2013
masu: Thanks for your question above:
Too many people know fashola even in my village in benue, without knowing realy who the man is nor figure out the truth about fashola media hype propaganda.

Take for instsnce the 700 road contract fashola claim to do 2013 without naming any as we to ascertain if or not he did it at the end of the day. How do you trust a man that is not specific.

Talk about making lagos a tourist centre in Africa, seriously i will like to see that happen but b4 then dont forget that as we speak now Akwaibom is the number one tourist centre in the country.

So manythings fashola is planning to do is still on the pipeline while akpabio has accomplished most of them,
And when you compare the quality of roads built by fashola with that of akpabio you will weep for lagosians and that is why JB park and go to uyo.

Talking about airport and seaports pls kindly visit akwaibom and stop doing arguement base on Acn media hype, mm2 is motor par to compear wat akpabio erected in uyo even the road that leads to uyo airport looks like paradise.

A trip to akwaibom will change your perspective to nigeria politicians.
I agree that Akpabio has done some things for his people but to just assist, most Lagos programs are intended to capture billions of dollars investments like the Lekki free trade zone, Eko Atlantic are not the type of investments you can easily execute in 3 years, they are of global reckoning! Mind you its just under 3 years away before you know the impact of these jobs churning investments.

masu: I hav been to lagos and akwaibom and hav draw my conclusion,

Anybody can draw a better conclusion when he visit the two state not by media hype.
Sorry to my SW friends bcus too many depends on the info they get tru media of which tinubu hav influenced.

Im not a tribalist bcus mr.suswan my state gov is not even in line.
Masu i like your comments but there are important things you did not put into consideration(1)Political ideology : this puts Fashola on top because he is more a technocrat, a dreamer and performer. Akpabio believes 16 votes is higher than 19 votes, he can't be trusted not to be mean! and believe me brother its more than meet the eyes(2)Problem solving skills: You did not analyse those problems facing the two states for instance Lagos has over 13million residents maybe up to 18 or 20 million which will be up to four or five times the population of Akwa Ibom and when you compare that to the IGR or allocation from FG Fashola has bigger problems confronting him than Akpabio and the manner he had solved many of them was innovative enough(3)Social challenges: Lagos with its media and elicit society poses a whole lot of challenge to any mind to control and Akwa Ibom cannot compare in any way.For Fashola to control Lagos ands earn the respect of this society is a plus that he can perform in Abuja(4) Determination to succeed: Lagos was an indisciplined city of which Tinubu could not totally eradicate but Fashola did eradicate it to a reasonable extent(5)Personal Discipline: BRF is not a jamboree governor unlike Akpabio. He once said in the media that he did not have the conscience of expending public funds on his birthday but Akpabio is an absolute opposite.
I can go on and on. It will be difficult for those who were not aware of the mess the FG left in Lagos and the position of the state now to assess Fashola. He may or may not be in government in 2015 but in the history of Nigeria only a very few can be picked before him for his dreams, his penchant for development and broad vision, he is surely up there.
PoliticsRe: Why Fashola Is The Best Option For Nigeria Come 2015. by mandarin: 10:51am On Jun 26, 2013
duality: @ op please tell me what Fashola has done to eradicate poverty in Lagos. Start the campaign from this point. If I'm not convinced with your answer, I will not vote for Fashola if he runs for presidency.
I am not a politician but to say the least is that Fashola has done well for Lagos. Whenever developments are coming in some people will have to sacrifice and that is applicable in any country or society.Which governor has that ideology or mentality of a performer? just who? if Nigeria were a normal country he will be in line to succeed GEJ.
Laying the cloaks of tribalism and politicking aside Fashola would be a bomb to emerge as President.
PoliticsRe: Biafra War: Igbo Leaders Deceived Their People, Says Ofeimun by mandarin: 5:47pm On Jun 20, 2013
Obviously both sides had blames to share in the war episode and the aftermath. For Ojukwu to have started the war he was prepared for the consequence of losing it and so its maligning someone who did not plan a war with you to carry the blame of your loss.
If Awolowo ever told Ojukwu of his support or desire to raise an army to fight the Federal Government that would be another issue but obviously the case was not and so Ojukwu subjected his people to a great suffering and turned himself to a hero by blaming someone else for his deeds.
I think the igbo people are doing well today even though it can not be compared with if there had not been a war loss but i think the heart of the people has been made to trade blame as to the source of their challenges which i think is political. GEJ i think share passion with the East and will make things better but the people need to do some hand shakes across the Niger to make better politicians.

An economic system that will reduce poverty will not be based on paper growth, growth figures in Nigeria has not impacted on the public in creating opportunities which is the yard stick of measuring growth. The Minister wants us to believe we are growing when our ten year old child has refused to crawl talk less of walking. People lose jobs with no new ones to replace them, NYSC graduates are coming out yearly with no vacancies for them yet Jonathan brought Sanusi Lamido who made cutting the head the antidote of a terrible headache! leaving thousands of families stranded when bread winners lose their pay and these same banks were sold in dubious circumstances to their kinsmen.
Madam Finance Minister's definition of growth is strange from our own perspective as a developing economy. The developments we have experienced over the past 14 years of democratic rule have all come through opening up of opportunities first in the financial sector with new generation banks and telecommunications through Obasanjo's GSM which have impacted other sectors positively. The government needs to open up other closed sectors that will further create a million or more jobs. Permit me to say that the President will do himself good in opening up areas like electricity , railways, and look into some crucial areas like state police services, refineries, and garner political will to achieve higher derivation for Niger Delta states and in fact all the states say like 50-50 sharing resource income with Federal. This will be a lasting legacy that will help states look into creative drives for their economies.
If Mrs Iwealla wants to use Nigeria as a proof of her know how on developing economy, her dimension will not engender any good for the ordinary man on the street; her systems are aliens to our world in developing world.
The cake system is funny because why did she not use apu or amala? all those economic theories will only breed a master- servant society,It is targeted for failure until it is designed to lift the common man.
PoliticsRe: Who Suffers If Nigeria Divides? by mandarin: 11:14am On Jun 07, 2013
revolt: I'd have to fault you on that! Mass exodus of igbos will not cripple the east in anyway! You must realise the moment calabar port and the ports in ph become reestablished, LAgos will n ipoint WILL go down. Calabar will become metropolitan with influx of nwafors. If they decide to tow the igbophobic line ( almost impossible now they've opened their eyes) portharcourt dully serve as an emerging port! Speaking of organising ourselves don't forget the bulk of nigerians that fixed our only viable sectors seem to be nwafors! Your lot handled it for years and destroyed it. Don't use lagos successes to judge the future cos a lot of factors need to be considered, which includes the nmonopoly of an operational seaport in naija, status of federal capital wth a heavy investment in federal structures, the spiral effect is most of the trading populace would like to get access to goods whch explains igbo presence, thus more ppl to tax (a frnd of mine in LIRS revealed tht what LSG declares is like half of wht they make! The rest is embezzled, in essence fashola evn has more money than akpabio, but wht do we see - aside a few shabby roads the big projects r still funded by the masses. After the break the west will surely feel the impact of competing wth other ports! Need I tell u the outcome of ppl tht need quota system n suvsidyz? The east like 1st republic may spend a few months struggln wif reorganisation n reunions but wen developmnt enters full gear, There's no stoppin them.
You talked with so much certainly and you decided to close your eyes to the reality of prevailing challenges and all possible challenges. You failed to looked at your land such influx population from all over Nigeria will immediately create land problem and political challenges. Did you ever talked about that? and what about a situation of Niger Delta claiming the city of Porthacourt or the Ikwerre saying no to the Igbo country?
I do not support your view of Lagos becoming a ghost town if Igbos emigrate, vacuums created by Igbos will be filled up by other people, offices occupied by Igbos will be taken up by others.Besides i do not even believe many igbos share your sentiments just like me, believe me, millions of igbos will remain in the west for a long time some permanently.
PoliticsRe: The Metamorphosis Of 20 Pounds by mandarin: 1:59pm On Jun 06, 2013
There is no ,justification anywhere in the world to back up reasons for marginalization. From what you wrote its obvious that some of your rulers and leaders(just like everywhere in Nigeria)are culprit of the malaise. I think there should be a way to bring them to book.
Personally, i have not seen any giant projects from the govt since advent of this democracy apart from few factories here and there constructed with investors money. Infrastructures have been bad everywhere and education is not faring better. The southwest is getting better with change of guards at govt level but places like Akwa Ibom are not sitting back(though behind considering its resources) and Duke tried for Cross River and so apart from FCT Nigeria IS STANDING STILL!
Easterners are enterprising and industrious and i think whatever things go wrong politically lies with their leaders. The east has produced senate Presidents, House speakers that passes Nigeria budget yearly and had powerful ministers. Have you ever asked why they will approve projects for other parts and not ask questions about their home land? There may be more to what leaders from that part of Nigeria are getting just as its obvious from your write up that they get contracts for roads they never make. This corruption thing is a national thing and people are not asking the right question but only fighting for where the PRESIDENT COMES FROM! I do not think Awo took the decision for a 20 pound ,its significant to know that those who propagated war could not control its dynamics and exposes innocent people to untold hardship. That is why planning to fail is when you fail to plan and just being moved by emotions . I do like the Igbo spirit and whatever happens they will survive. But i think its time they move forward and build institutions with future and permit me to say , they should start investing in businesses that have good future and can stand as long lasting institutions as the other parts of Nigeria like the Dangotes, Honeywell, Oando etc. God bless Ndigbo.
PoliticsRe: Dangote To Site $8bn Refinery In Olokola FTZ by mandarin: 12:27pm On Jun 06, 2013
Not excited about this. The environmental implications are not good at all. Its not worth it. Refineries are better off in isolated arid areas. A place in the north will be good. Dangote cannot come and destroy the SW. We know how he can use government contacts to do what he wants. What are you going to do with money you can't enjoy? The people of Ondo should reject this. We as a country have not reached the point where we monitor and punish offenders of environmental pollution. Let him lay pipelines all the way to Gombe or Gongola or one of those sparsely populated states. If he's worried about security, he should warn the northerners.
This wont be a govt owned refinery and concerted efforts by the govt of the day can bring such worries under control. Nigeria needs investments , lots of it to create millions of jobs and keep our youths busy.Lagos dserves at least one refinery or two and maybe one in Ibadan too. And lest i forget we need more to compete with Dangote because i do not fancy his unfair business play in Nigeria. I pray God will help others and myself to succeed. I also look forward to many more investments in areas of cement to break the holding monopoly and force the price down to like 5oonaira a bag, why not.But we need this refinery fast!
PoliticsRe: Who Suffers If Nigeria Divides? by mandarin: 9:58am On Jun 05, 2013
its disheartening that a topic of this magnitude could degenerate to ethnic bashings and e-rivalries. Rivalry between two southern Nigeria major ethnic groups(Yoruba&Igbo) is to the advantage of the Hausa people or the North and this will persist until there is a realization of this by leaders and youths of Southern ethnic groups.
To the original question of this thread, permit me to say that all of Nigeria will suffer to a certain degree if there is separation because Nigeria has inter dependent economic dynamics across its regions and present stability is achieved because regional groups see a common enemies.
The Niger Delta has abundant oil but also environmental challenges, violence and militancy. This may not abate and the chance of all the ethnic groups forming a country is very meager! There will be obvious tussling of power and fear of land claims destined for civil strife.it will probably be the most volatile region or country? may be there will be up to five countries there because Ijaw may have an ambition to drive a massive dominance. it will also face challenges from the Igbo who may want to forcefully claim the Ikwerre hence Porthacourt and Yoruba possibly looking at incorporation of Itsekiri and Edo in a confederacy that may even bring in other Delta groups who may likely foresee economic growth and stability with the west(it may not be as well). Emerging countries around the middle belt region will be so volatile and there may be decades of unending strife between Hausa in Kaduna and Plateau, Gombe and Bauchi, places around Nasarawa, ownership of FCT, and so on.The Hausa/Fulani will have an agro based economy and expect the country not to fare too badly although it may emerge as a world of the rich and poor in a wide gap but expect them to do better than say Niger or Chad.
Igbos may face a land problem if a whole lots of them chose to emigrate to their home land. Most igbos are traders and they need buyers to succeed and this may pose an initial decade long challenge which is the primary reason for their emigration today. But trust them to survive and make a country that will be middle income but with myriads of political and environmental challenges. This country will definitely need others to pick up and prosper more than all others. Any mass exodus of the Igbos out of the present Nigeria will set them back by decades and i trust many not to migrate.
The west or Yoruba has natural land area that is favorable for a country and a stream of educated and upwardly mobile population. With Lagos falling within their geographical region is a great plus while the availability of some crude oil can back the economy to pick up as soon as it starts and with its political advancement, it may be the country to quickly accelerate. Its population will still include plenty of Igbos that will stay put to do business and lots of Middle Beltans and Hausa that will migrate en masse into the new country.
So the question of who will suffer? The north will immediately face dried oil money and capital to fund their mass population, it will be very challenging. The East will face an equal problem though its oil will also flow but how to organize themselves will be a huge huge challenge but land and foods prices will skyrocket and can stiffen its economy except government do something about it but expect lots of civil strife on land and in area of politics.
The west seems better in this stead and looks favored to be better organized but definitely all will experience serious challenges.

ILIDEFI: I strongly detest Eko Ile and his brother Eko Atlantic. Typical Yoruba bigots they both are. They've never been outside the south west but think they know anytin abt Nigeria.
To start wit, Lagos is not Yoruba land. Lagos was Nigeria's capital city, and today it represents Nigeria as a whole. D beauty of Lagos today is because it wz built by Nigeria, not by Southwesterners, who lack a sense of beauty. Eko Ile and co, how many other SW cities are like Lagos? It's just like northerners coming to boast about Abj cos it's in d north.
Granted dat Onitsha may be dirty cos of the large population of traders and the enormous trading activities going on there, but you guys should visit Enugu and Owerri. Are they in any way less developed than Ibadan and Abeokuta etc? The answer is no.
Go to villages in d East and see development. Men hustle and develop their communities. Fine houses are built, electricity is brought into communities, even roads are tarred by indigenes of various communities, unlike your SW ppl that depend on government to do everything for them.
You guys should change that dirty mindset you have about Igbos, which only portray jealousy. No other tribe in Nigeria wud'v been standing this tall like Igbos, if they faced the civil war, and the ensuing marginalization that Igbos have faced for many decades now. Igbos are still d best in Nigeria, and the transformation you all have been craving for will only come in Nigeria wen an Igbo man ascends the presidency. Mark my words.
All these talks of Lagos not been a Yoruba on this forum should not be an issue though i wont like to take any side but let's be objective. The Colonial and Federal office was built on Lagos Island and so developed through collective resources like other cities across Nigeria e.g. Porthacourt,Kaduna, Kano, Minna(may be the East has not enjoyed same benefits)Its worth of note that the industrial Lagos around the mainland was built by the Awolowo regime(you can trace the history) alongside the Oluyole industrial estate in Ibadan. These areas generate the largest chunk of taxes aside the seaports in Lagos. Besides, the Lekki corridor today is a brain child of Lagos state government.
Lagos state is the commercial capital of Nigeria just as New York and London and anyone around the world is free to invest, live and enjoy life to the fullest while just like all over the world original land owners are known and acknowledged.Lagos State originally belong to various Yoruba groups as Ijebu, Egba,Awori,Ilaje,Egun etc and its not important if anyone accept it or not and that necessitated for Abuja's creation om land ownership issue
PoliticsRe: The Toll Booths At The New Ikoyi Link Bridge.pics by mandarin: 9:39am On Jun 04, 2013
We must appreciate progress. If govt introduced toll in areas serving the rich and you complain then i don't know what you want. The Abuja govt that controls everything is not doing enough and Lagos is running a high tax income system because its not getting enough like it contributes. If 50% of all taxes levied on services in Lagos are returned to the state coffers there wont be need for any toll anywhere but all these money go to Abuja and never returns. its the FG that's responsible for the hardships by its financial unitary system that has also breded mass corruption. I think we should appreciate LASG efforts.

Maku or GEJ do not belong to the same class and he should just look elsewhere for his jabs. PoliticsRe: Who Suffers If Nigeria Divides? by mandarin: 5:59pm On May 31, 2013
All will suffer but we can call the west a bit lucky and they will allow Igbos to stay and even migrate from the North. Its possible the west emerges the largest oil power while you will be surprised at the decision of Delta minorities. Stability and progress favors the west especially if the region should evolve a federal system. The East and South may be drawn in a battle for resources and identity while minorities in the south south will have issues with themselves over oil ,and many communities will fight over land ownership except there is a calculated agreement among them. The southeast are industrious people and can survive albeit any prevailing challenges but geographical constrictions and leadership brouhaha will retard their growth. The North will have problems with the middle Belt but good trade and infrastructural agreement with the west will help them a lot. New alliances will help and mineral resources will cause more violence.
PoliticsRe: Northern Muslim Elders To Asari Dokubo: Go And Read Your History by mandarin: 9:33am On May 28, 2013
War isn't won by bragging, the cost of war is terrible, just ask United States on Iraq and Afghanistan, The human resource that goes with it is enormous that even Asari and this Farouk wont be able to feed their families in the event of civil strife. I just pity Africans because they can't just see reason in sitting around a table like civilized people to discuss issues.
Asari boasting about destroying Nigeria if GEJ is not re-elected is cowardice and instead of the Niger Delta elders to help the President build bridges they are forming what they are not. You don't win election by forcing people moreso that he is from a minority tribe. There is the need for Mr. President to work with other groups to achieve political stability especially groups in the south and northern minorities that voted for him, he needs their votes and not some people bragging about his re-election. If GEJ is not re-elected ,heaven will not fall and with issues of Boko Haram and Niger Delta militants, Nigerians are already getting used to violence which his own region do not need at this time.
Permit me to say that i have not seen GEJ make fundamental changes as expected of a Niger Deltan citizen like revenue from offshore oil, 50% derivation on all resources, regional restructuring and micro economic growth as against the current growth that do not grow opportunities. By the time GEJ leaves power it is then that Niger Deltans will realize only few has benefited from his government just like Yoruba did from Obasanjo. I will advise the the President to work on fundamental constitutional changes and political structure that will give better opportunities to minority tribes and build Nigeria economy on level playing ground.
To Mr. Farouk, he should know that the Nigeria of today is not the Nigeria in which the war was fought, he is rather uncivilized and crude and very disrespectful to the Yoruba people for even mentioning kwara as their land. He just fantasized and should realize quickly that the North cannot generate resources to prosecute war against the south because this is not Sudan and the southerners are much more advanced. Can his Hausa/Fulani even keep a united north in case of war? he should just go and sleep.
PoliticsCommon sense in the Yoruba History by mandarin(op):
Got this piece but i wish to assert the following: I want intellectual contributions and common sense reasonings.
[b]The probable site of Atlantis, a legendary site in the Atlantic Ocean were exact location of Ile-Ife, a powerful kingdom 9000 years before the birth of BOLON. Its powerful army over run the Mediterranean land. The people of Atlantis are the founder of the ancient civilization of Atlantis from which the Atlantic ocean derived its name; Yorubas called it "Okun" with "Olokun" as the Orisa that presided over that aspect of Nature. It is the teaching of occultists that the first race of Atlanteans was called Rmoahals.

The race was Mahogany Black in color about 10ft. to 12 ft.

"Ile- Ife ase n taye nibi ojumo ti n mo wa" (Ile-Ife the primordial place where the day light comes forth) is the original home of the Yorubas, civilization and culture. Did you know that Ife (Yoruba) gave the world the civilization as we know it today? For instance, "Britons received their civilization from Rome: Rome from Greece: Greece from Persia: Persia from Ghaldea: Ghaldea from Babylon: Babylonians and Hebrews from Egypt: Egypt from the Tyrrhenians and the Tyrrhenians from the ancient Ile-Ife.

Yorubas refered to themselves as "Eniyan" or Eni ti Aayan" (the Chosen Ones to bring blessing to the world). "Ifa ni dandan, eniyan ni a yan lati mu ire wa si aye."

Lamurudu or Nimrod was never mentioned in any of the Odu Ifa therefore he could not be any of the Yorubas' ancestors. Yorubas are known for paying close attention to their ancestors.

I want to believe the Yoruba is made up of aborigines and settlers. Who are the aborigines and who are the settlers becomes the question. i DO NOT BELIEVE IN PEOPLE FALLING FROM THE SKY WHICH COULD MEAN A MAN WHOSE BACKGROUND IS MYSTERIOUS OR WHO DERIVED POWER FROM HEAVEN!
That a portion of the Yoruba has link with Nimrod may be possible or some from Egypt will be acceptable considering the linguistic connection: http://www.raceandhistory.com/cgi-bin/forum/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/2139.
However there is such a great similarity between Nok historical works and Yoruba arts which may infer that there was once a kingdom from present central Nigeria down to western Nigeria which may be a rather very old one.
The word Yoruba itself does not really appear to have a yoruba meaning or as far as i know. However looking at the various dialects of the Yoruba country there were relationships. For instance Kings in Ijesa and Ekiti are titled 'Owa' while looking at physical appearance the Eastern side of the Yoruba country are on the average fairer and characteristically expressive and undiplomatic while the western parts are darker and diplomatically savvy.
I want to assume that the ancient kingdom would comprise of ethnic groups of Yoruba, Itsekiri, Edo, Igala and parts of what is Nupe today.
Just what am I driving at? The Yoruba history has been tailored to reflect divers perspective while eroding the actual the realities of the source which ordinarily will have something to do with Ife. I believe the garden of Eden may be around somewhere in Western Nigeria and borrowing some historical source from the folklores or understanding of some oracles' history may contribute a whole lot(mind you i do not believe in atheism or idolatry)

The town was agrarian and very dry and almost absolutely uneducated, it was a state of despair and lifelessness. May be most Nigerian villages are like that but that one was too bad.
Mr. Kaita has not done enough for his town and charity begin at home. However, GEJ(Ph.D) has not shown why our generation should trust educated fellows to make Nigeria a better country after all Mrs Ngozi Iweala has not fare any better in making things better; her policies make the wealthy better increasing their economic bases to support private jets from 22 to over a 100 ! Her Harvard/World Bank programs of creating economic growth amazingly has not translated to opportunities for for the general populace. Its good to be educated but having read textbooks written by fellows from well developed countries it may be difficult for her to sort out the fundamentals even though obviously she can succeed in creating a sect of super wealthy business aristocrats while the other section of the populace will be at their mercies.
Considering the level of our education and HDI i thought the Finance minister with so much power will use Nigeria as a pilot thesis to land the world Bank job in the future through programs that will help rural economics . I think excessive education can be cancerous of real values as it seems in Nigeria. Professor Soludo came and scrapped Community Banks and replace them with Micro Financing system that is out of reach of ordinary citizens. I thought when the Doctor Ngozi came, she would support creating a micro credit schemes as community banks or micro finance system to support SMEs so that the uneducated and teeming young population can access loans to start something which may not actually be in monetary but non monetary inputs. To me in this area certificates have failed us.
If the economy is not doing well and corruption is eating deeper and deeper and then security is in shamble where then will GEJ draw his performance indices? That makes a Mr. Kaita who have not done much for much of his own community a constructive critic! sadly enough.
BusinessRe: The Most Economically Viable States In Nigeria To Invest Into by mandarin: 1:23pm On May 13, 2013
Economic viability that will yield returns depend on which sector and how close to the market. Virtually all states are good for agricultural productions depending on areas of interest. For industrial activities Ogun, Oyo are choicest but not the limited spaces. For oils and gas Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom considering security problems in the Delta areas. Energy investments like oil refining and LNG plants are hot cakes in Lagos and Ibadan.
Poultry and animal farms have huge potentials in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti ,Ondo and Kwara states being areas close to the most economically viable population in Nigeria. It will also fit in in Enugu, Benue and Nasarawa states.
Lagos,FCT, Ibadan are excellent locations for properties or real estates. Kano and Kaduna are good places but religious violence has taken its root and it may just have to be for a long time but market wise they have huge population that can support success, may be Kano has more economically incapacitated youths in millions that may not be able to contribute meaningfully is another thing which will ordinarily put many smaller cities and kaduna ahead. Two states often less talked about are Ogun states and Oyo. The next decades belong to Ogun where a lot of people keep trooping into considering the size of the growing immigrants, new factories and available land, its the state of the decade.
Highly promising states in the west are Ondo and and Osun while Ekiti and Edo will need more pragmatic actions,Edo is actually much ahead now while states as Kaduna and Kano will dominate the north for the foreseeable future. Akwa Ibom and Delta states are promising while Rivers will probably be the power house in the south for years to come.
The southeast do have a lot of market activities but in the real economic sense we can reckon with Abia and Anambra with the latter really having great potentials.
Overall, for anyone willing to do business who may see cost of land and associated elements on the high side in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo state are closer and Ibadan is especially a gold mine not seen by many. Aside Lagos Ondo state has the second highest potentials for developments in Nigeria if it were a country. Direct access to the sea, landmass good for agriculture and educated populace, presence of oil and gas that can provide initial funding for the growth of other sectors. Its a state of the future as well alongside Akwa Ibom and states I love are Taraba and Benue because those two states can feed Nigeria but Nigeria is a country full of 'ignorance' and government is oil focused.
PoliticsRe: Lagos To Emerge 13th Largest Economy In Africa By 2014 by mandarin: 2:50pm On May 09, 2013
Lagos to Emerge 13th Largest Economy in Africa by 2014? I believe it should be among the top ten economies due to a large informal sector. I however do not believe in the 170 million population figures given. Over the years Nigeria's population has been disputed as shams and it will be very erroneous to build estimates on such contested figures against all obvious socio- economic factors that determine population growth.
I think Nigeria needs to evolve a political arrangements that will take off the essence of population.

Your question is on point and I wish to let d president know that he will need at least 50% of votes to be in Aso Rock come 2015 which I doubt he will get. Let me just state a few but very important failures that will bereave him of his return to power and make him a man of yesterday soon even in Niger Delta.
1. He is paying on lips service to fighting corruption which is the major problem of Nigeria
2. Important persons in his cabinet talked about Oil cartel or cabals,he did nothing to better the oil industry to deal with these cabals and his subsidy removal impoverished Nigerians the more- this is a colossal failure
3. His acts in power are like he has had a section of the country at heart to be downgraded economically and he is doing so to the detriment of the economy.
4. He did not take a cautious effort at refraining the CBN governor from selective punishments in so called banking reform that caused mass lost of jobs while the govt still carried the debt burden, he should have saved those jobs, its effects still echo badly in the economy- another woeful performance
5.His handling of security issues is a total failure as he collapse under pressure
6. He has not done enough to better the lots of niger Delta even though he has done more than enough to enrich individuals and groups. This will backfire in future.
7.He run his government on compromises that does not augur well for nigeria development
8.His attitude toward the south west is not good at all he is eating with the devil and playing with political suicide, the north cannot vote for him again and to win again he need that region- this may turn out to be his undoing except he act fast
9. His policies are not clear and he lacks. Clear cut direction

PoliticsRe: Great Leaders In Nigeria's History Before Total Colonisation by mandarin: 5:37pm On Apr 29, 2013
Three harvests later, the people gathered at their village square to discuss their relationship with their god-friend. Agbonmiregun, the priest, said at the gathering: “Dear citizens, I welcome you. We are here to jointly express our thanks to God for hearing our prayers. For a long time we prayed to Him to send us a leader. The oracles foretold that God would send the leader from the land of the Rising Sun. I thought it would not happen in my life-time. Now the leader has come. He has come down to teach our young ones the technique of hunting. Since his advent, our sons have become brave and accomplished hunters; farmers now have plentiful harvest. The barns are full; no more hunger. Disease and sickness have been reduced. With a single leaf, he cures yaws, guinea worm and scabies; just one leaf and mortality rate has been reduced. Should a personage of that statue continue to live there, in the forest? I say no! And I know I speak for all of you. I propose that we invite him to live among us. We should build a house for him, and give him our daughters to marry to beget his kind and perpetuate his line in our country. I call on you to give me the mandate to send a delegation to invite him down.”

“Go on, Agbonmiregun; send a delegation to him,” the people shouted unanimously.” Agbonmiregun then turned to Ilowa, “take with you as many persons as you consider necessary and go to him. Come over and collect wearing apparels and a staff for him. Ogun, Eshindale and Obameri will go with you. Go and tell him it is our wish that he comes and lives among us. Go and prepare. You set out on the seventh day from today.”

Ilowa and his delegation meet Ekaladerhan in the forest. “Greetings, god of the forest. My name is Ilowa. I am the custodian of records for our people. This is Ogun, Eshindale, Obameri…, They are elders in our country. We bring you greetings from our people. The oracles foretold your coming a long time ago. We did not know it would be in our life-time. We are happy that our eyes have seen you. Glory be to Olodumare. Your coming has liberated us from hunger and from diseases. We thank you for the wonderful things you have done in our lives. We have been mandated to bring you these gifts and to invite you to come and live with us. We will build a home for you on the highest peak in town and give our daughters to you in marriage.”

This piece will make a good Nollywood blockbuster. The certainty of this history is incomprehensible and a one sided exposition. It calls for more questions than ever debated: why are heads of Benin buried in Ife? why all the blessing required of an Oba of Benin from Ife before enthronement. I think our generation should approach history with more creativity and seek more knowledge.
Personally whether Ogiso or Oduduwa I do not share an idea that someone fall from the sky! I mean its just does not make any sense. What if the Ogiso's also 'fall' from somewhere outside Benin or Igodomido say Ife or areas around Ekiti? The truth is that Ife and Benin have interwoven background which may be through conquest or inter marriage or even same source as cousins or brothers. All these superiority contest must be assessed and laid to rest for ever!
