ehissi:1. Unfortunately you don't know when to stop displaying your ignorance 2. When you do not read very well you make faux pas repeatedly 3. What are the issues here? It would seem to me that your little mind cannot process the enormity of the alleged offence beyond bribe giving...... even when the weight of evidence on offences bothering on abetting election malpractices, intra/inter party crises, electoral petition trial fraud, economic sabotage, corrupt enrichment and inexplicable sources of wealth and so on..... Does this look like something NJC is set up to handle? ‘’By our own analysis, the rot in the political scene – election rigging, inter and intra-party crises and election petition trial from tribunal to Supreme Court – gave rise to the deep corruption in the judiciary. In the economic sphere, Nigeria lost cases to foreign investors due to the collusion of judges with foreigners, leading to the loss of hundreds of billions of Naira by the country, among them, the Malabo Oil deal where the country lost over $2 billion. “We have the mandate not only to pre-empt and prevent but also to take necessary actions to bring the culprits of economic and financial crimes to book “Let it be known that anybody whose action can create hardship for the rest of Nigerians must be stopped by us before the crime is committed and there is no other agency that is as capable of doing that as the DSS,’’ Look, it may interest you to know that one of the two Supreme Court judges in our custody has a property worth N1.5 billion in one of the South-South states. If we may ask, where did he get the money to set up such project?” The official also pointed out that another judge, who is being detained and questioned, disguised as a shopper in one of the supermarkets and ended up collecting bribes in Dollars from a ‘client’ only to be caught on CCTV camera.4. NJC is not an arm of government, neither is it law making body. NJC is simply set up as an administrative and disciplinary body of the judiciary. There is no immunity for any other persons except the President, VP, Governors and Deputy Governors. Judicial Officers from the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to High Court Judges do not enjoy any special protection from criminal proceedings and processes..........Effiong Inibehe https://www.thecable.ng/crackdown-judicial-officers-separating-law-sentiments. The NJC's remit does not go beyond recommeding for discipline judicial misconduct. The DSS does not even need the permission of the NJC to investigate arrest and prosecute the said judges. Even the ones referred to the NJC was messed up, hence the DSS had to escalate and widen the net of their investigation. he official expressed regret that the National Judicial Council, NJC, which had the responsibility to track and punish corrupt judges, had tended to condone evil being perpetrated by the corrupt elements, citing the cases of three indicted judges as example. This is beyond the NJC now. They cannot do anything to save the judges at this stage as the case is now with the state. 5. The DSS has challenged you or anyone to show how they went beyond their brief. You've been unable to do so beyond the mere sentimental cry. The DSS is empowered by law to investigate Economic crimes and this whole investigation falls under economic crimes 6. Here you come again with illogic. Nothing is going back to the NJC here. These cases will be charged to court and addressed on its merit. These are criminal cases and the mere fact that they are judicial officers does not preclude them from being prosecuted 7. unfortunately your dumpster diving into wherever you got your illogical concoctions from fails you again. Supreme Court justices has no immunity whatsoever. If they do, please show the evidence |
dealslip:......Now I have to condescend to a lower level..... 1. Little girl, I was already in Uni during the days of Abacha. So tell me more 2. The question you failed to answer is simple. Show us what section of the constitution or law was breached by this arrest. Otherwise every other things you said is pure jargon. 3. I wonder what you mean by people defending what is wrong. That corrupt judges were arrested or what? We should then question your moral compass. 4. Buhari and his thugs? Interesting! the same "thugs" GEJ surreptitiously used for hatchet jobs...... I remember the days when these thugs could not decipher between INEC database and INEC website. When Marilyn Ogar reflected a DSS that was anything but professional, a DSS spokesperson that said El-Rufai was arrested for wandering (a law that had been expunged from our books)......or is it Ekpeyong who did not understand the meaning of a land-locked state........ 5. Nigerians would be arrested for bearing semblance with a criminal? Please stop being ridiculous. You're just making credible discuss look pedestrian with your reasoning. How is that related to corrupt judges arrested? Yet you say you have a serious problem with corruption 6. .....and how does Jibrin's case invalidate the arrest of these judges. This is what happens when you're out of excuses. So because they have not arrested Jibrin and co, they should have left the judges alone? Your opinions are simply case of corruption fighting back........don't worry, Jibrin's case will be addressed pretty soon |
dollydolly:Cheap! What reckless statements? |
Einl:So putting it in two quotes means you disagreed with it? ![]() Education! Education!! Education!!! or is it half of it? |
Einl:1. Of what relevance is my "heart if hearts" when the law is followed to the letter. Even if they are political as you wish, if it is legal, then it draws us closer to whipping out corruption 2. Arrested by the Chief of Army Staff? I think at this juncture I will assume your comments are under "influence".... .....and I am honest |
cyrilamx:This is the most painful part to me. As a Yoruba man, I propose this commissoner should be sacked, horse-whipped and jailed, then horse-whipped after serving his tenure x 2 ![]() |
Maximillian1:That in itself has helped the case of the state. I only pity the Commissioner of police, who has not only ruined his career, but soiled his family name for "a piece of porriage" |
bfire:Bros, I thought I was the only one that noticed this from a mile. Some of these "kids" just give themselves away |
Einl:Now you ignorance has reached the peak. A "Sting operation" and you want them the share information? Please speak no more. You're embarrassing yourself |
Einl:1. Since you said you're not a lawyer, then your ignorance is excused. You do not need to be a lawyer to understand the law. The laws are clearly stated. 2. "Taking bribes and stealing monies........" is NOT the work of "NCJ". I suggest you do some read-up on the functions of NJC. 3. The issue in question is fall under the coverage of economic crimes and internal security. This falls well within the functions of States security in many countries and definitely part of the functions of DSS 4. Since when did the DSS start arresting corrupt people? - Since time immemorial. That question smacks rock-bottom ignorance 5. DSS has arrested herdsmen just two months ago. http://punchng.com/rivers-dss-arrests-herdsman-allegedly-killing-butcher/ but I guess you're too lazy to use google, even if your memory is short 6. Regarding pipeline vandals, Boko-Haram, Lecturer-rapists etc.........Bros, laziness is not good o. Use google na..... http://crossriverwatch.com/2015/08/students-extortion-dss-arrests-crutech-lecturer/ http://nigeria.shafaqna.com/EN/NG/2265487 http://breaking.com.ng/nigeria/dss-arrests-boko-haram-bomb-expert-smash-kidnap-gang/ ...even an IPOB Boko-Haramish - http://www.thegistbaze.com/2016/07/dss-arrest-ipob-member-over-plots-to.html |
PapaBrowne:Nope. I believe they are sending warning signals to people, especially brown-envelop journos and politicians, who twist and misstate facts with the intention of inciting violence. |
dealslip:1. Sometimes it is not the veracity of your claims (ridiculous as they sound) that is more disturbing, rather it is the thought process that goes into it that is an utter waste 2. First off, quit talking about 1983-85. You know nothing about those days and I doubt if you were born then 3. That SSS was used to arrest a woman that refused love advances is the stu.pidest submission I've seen on NL, talkless of it being a blatant lie. Don't you have care for your reputition? 4. A nation like Nigeria is not any special nor complicated beyond getting the right things done. Are the judges culpable? If yes, do they not deserve to be arrested? and by the DSS? Show us where the DSS has contravened the law (this time with relevant evidence, not "love advances" hogwash) |
michoim:The US FBI carried out a similar raid on a sitting governor in 2009 |
Yian1:Bros, That most of our leaders are Zap.e.d. is not in doubt. what is more baffling is the corrupt-ridden mentality of our yoots. At least you can see on Nairaland how many of our yoots reason from their nyashes |
dollydolly:Nope. this statement actually means that you are responsible for the statements you make to the extent that they are factual, valid and does not compromise the security of the state |
thunder74:Closet bigot. Even if the nominee is proven to have compromised his office, he should loose his chance at the office of CJN and let another take his place |
OBAGADAFFI:Bros, Before you turn logic on its head, Please show us where in law, the DSS requires the green light of the NJC to carry out arrest of judges. |
OasisT:The NJC is not an investigative body for Economic crimes. The NJC cannot carry out sting operations to establish the evidence (Cash found in their houses). The NJC is just an administrative disciplinary body of the judiciary and their remits does not go beyond recommendation for retirement. Also, the EFCC is not primed for this and there was no formal petition to investigate the judges. This crime required the services of secret services, to carry out espionages and secretly monitor their movements. |
TPAND:See another uninformed reasoning. It is Illegal for a judge to be "consultants to many firms"..... How do you guys conjure illogic!!! |
fergie001:Unfortunately many of you are so ignorant even of your ignorance 1. The NJC is largely an administrative organ and cannot do anything beyond recommending the said judges for retirement. The NJC is not equipped to carry out the deep level of investigation of the capacity of the DSS. 2. The NJC is not an arm of government 3. It is glaring you never read the report, else you will not make the gaffe that the DSS did not go with search warrant 4. Please show us in law where it states the time or place to carry out arrest? - This is the stu.pidest of your illogical arguments 5. Who told you the organs like the DSS is not empowered to investigate these kinds of cases. Even as recent as 2009, the FBI in a sting operation arrested a governor in the US, for cases of corruption. He was subsquently impeached and jailed 6. If the hunted is corrupt, I support that he must be hunted, even if he's my family member. 7. Unconstitutional? your ignorance is much more at play here. |
kahal29:Your questions are not only needless but totally unnecessary. I wonder how a sting operation on judges who were found with unexplained hard currencies fighting the judiciary |
motorized:Why do you people spew ignorance with reckless abandon. The PAF is a separate organ from the NAF. |
drss:Call the police.......and not the governor |
bigsmoke2:There is nothing condemanble about how DSS went about their operation. They are a secret service agencies for God's sakes and they can carry out sting operations. The law does not preclude them from carrying out sting operations at 1.00a.m. So if they badge into a suspected terrorist home at 2.00a.m. you lot will complain that it is unlawful? |
Whynotthetruth:I had been crying already as the country was led into the cesspit of corruption in all sector. I cry much more when a young man of my generation will support corruption to satisfy vendetta of failed election |
OasisT:First off, Justice Mohammed Liman, one of the judges in question is of "Nothern extraction"...and is that a justification for the alleged corruption of these judges in question? |
PierreDeFermat:Wike's with his presence has given himself away as culpable. This is a case I want to be executed as swift as possible. DSS should charge them to court with their weight of evidence and let's see how this will pan out |
TonyeBarcanista:....so to prevent a supposed "Hitler" you'll prefer a land filled with "40 thieves" as judges? |
TonyeBarcanista:Arrest warrant will not have worked in this case. Once the arrest warrant is sought, all judges would have been on the on standby and moved their stashes. At least with this element of suprise, we can see a Wike becoming both the defence and "waste-collector" |
LorDBolton:Bros, I'm with you on this..........especially when you consider the crass ignorance on NL, and God forbid that is the reflection of our society's reasoning capacity |
1. It is share joblessness that some people will carry placard on an alleged claim that an ex-president has not been paid his allowance. This is the height of illiteracy and idiocy 2. Such disgraceful venture has never happened in the history of this country. 3. Even if the allowances were delayed as alleged, there are means through which such are communicated between the SGF and the ex-president. These are not what is sorted on the streets 4. It is funny that these people are not carrying placard over the deplorable state of Bayelsa, not over the economic situation at large.....but on the salary of Jonathan. Why then do we blame govt for sufferings in the land. No wonder their leaders rob them blind and they still recieve hero's welcome 5. NO wonder GEJ is their Hero |
personal59:Most people commenting here are simply idiots and just want to talk. Many do not even know that the Shiite problems dates back over 20years. Do many know how these sect had almost taken over institutions of the states? Tell Magazine some 15years ago related the story of the menace of the Shiite movement, how they became a force even in ABU Zaria, where they attacked Christians students, abducting some and killing some. These are the ones some idiots wake up suddenly to want to defend? |
