dem_people:

My ancestors were a mixture of warriors and traders in ancient Aro confederacy. I've also visited some graves dating back to at least the 1700's.

grin shocked lipsrsealed

@OP, we're supposed to be descendants of the Isrealis, according to folks. For some reason, I haven't been piqued enough to research for myself. I don't know whether that is supposed to make me feel superior or inferior to anyone. I just know that I like to think of myself first as a Nigerian and then a world citizen. At any rate whatever I have become today has been between me and God, no one of them ancestors added anything good or bad to my life, except maybe my skin color and country of origin.
Politics / Re: Are Nigerians In Diaspora Disconnected With Nigeria? by MarcAnthon(m): 4:19am On Feb 04, 2012
I disagree OP. I have never been any more interested in Nigeria than I've been since I left home. Everyday I wish the things I see here can be replicated back home. I have also never been angrier at our politicians than I've been cos they travel all the time, been everywhere and seen how things are done elsewhere yet their selfishness and greed haven't allowed them to do same for our own countrymen when they literally have the power to.

My facebook friends, even those back home, get news of goings-on in Nigeria from my posts. As they say, I have my ears to the ground. May not be the same for everyone, but most of my Nigerian friends here are exactly like me.
Politics / Re: Fashola Hands Over Adelabu Steeet, Ogunlana Drive, Akerele Street In 1 Day. Pics by MarcAnthon(m): 4:04am On Feb 04, 2012
Nice to see Adelabu has been fixed and expanded. That was my area then. Good work Fashola.

I guess Surulere residents now just need Bode Thomas, Animashaun (all the way to Orile), Adetola and Enitan (stretching to the express) repaired and expanded like these ones and it will begin to look really sane.

I hope the local government guys take a cue from this and start fixing the inner roads as well. I wonder what it is those guys do?

I couldnt agree more with Onenewman, Nigerians!!!!!!!!!!!! When will all these tribal insults stop Nairaland used to be seen as a very important research tool and a veritable treasure for authentic research on Nigeria especially in far away lands. People would always go to Nairaland to get a 'feel' of Nigeria, it was a wonderful ambassador. I along with so many other people hardly come to this site anymore. Its now just a tribal bashing site, not particularly taken seriously by anyone. This I predict will be the beginning of the end of Nairaland as it just upsets and hurts too many people. I guess the owner of the site allows such tribal insults in order to attract traffic but believe me, when it gets to the point it has got to now, it is all over, mark my words, respectable and serious minded people have started visiting other rival sites which I wont name. What a shame on Nairaland, what a shame on the people who use the annonymity of the site to say thiings they would ordinarily shy away from, is that how your parents taught you?? So very sad. By the way, I am a Yoruba woman with friends and family all over Nigeria, they mean a lot to me and I refuse to be a part of this, not in my name!!!!!! Shame on Seun for not moderating his site with a sense of profound responsibility to himself, Nigeria and posterity!!

You couldn't have said it better ma'am/sir. Sometimes I wonder what it is I am doing here. Everywhere you turn it is insults heaped on insults. Food for thought Seun, especially the last line there.

Politics / Re: Arewa Blames South South For Bokoharam Ultimatum by MarcAnthon(m): 11:24pm On Feb 02, 2012
I read this earlier somewhere else and I fail to see any condemnation of the abominable acts of BH. All I see is a group of old men trying to rationalize and defend the indefensible, thereby tacitly approving their actions.
I won't be surprised if they have BH members among them. They definitely are BH sympathizers.

Nwanne'm the thing tire me gan sef,a lady created this type of thread and no one cussed her,a guy created the male version of it just to prove, someone who obviously have something personal with the OP takes it upon himself to be the e-sadist he is known to be and like the NL we know, many dummies who don't even understand it decides to join in the cussing, typical, sometimes I just can't help but wonder.

Nneoma, udo di. I think everyone understands now.

coogar:

then the op should have quoted la parissiene's earlier post so we can know this was simply a rebuttal. . .

i really don't think some posters ponder deeply before making threads.
the presentation is so lethargic it makes you question the intelligence quotient of the authors of these moronic posts.

Maybe he should have. Maybe not. But I think he explained it a few posts down the line. All I'm saying is let's take it easy on the cussing. At any rate  we could just read and waka pass if it's so stupid. I do that to a lot of threads. Hope we're cool sha.

Romance / Re: Why Is Life So Unfair To Men? by MarcAnthon(m): 10:17pm On Feb 02, 2012
I thought this was a very nice post (even though I don't agree with all the points raised). So I am kind of shocked at all the cussing.
Like the poster explained, it is a response to La Parissiene's earlier post and serves to point out that no one sex has it exclusively easy, which makes a lot of sense cos it's true.
So you all should chill out. Instead point out where you feel he got it wrong, and I believe you can do so without cussing him out. It's actually unintelligent to resort to insults to make you point, especially when this is not the politics section. Na wa for some of una sha!

Politics / Re: Al-mustapha Sentenced To Death By Hanging? by MarcAnthon(m): 12:12am On Jan 31, 2012
I don't think Mustafa had smart lawyers. They should have urged him, when all his subordinates began to testify against him, to change his plea to 'guilty' and blame it on military hierarchy where he received orders from Abacha himself, who is conveniently dead. That way he would have gotten away with a much lighter sentence. Guess they weren't reading the handwriting on the wall.
Although justice us served, it won't be out of place to imagine he was powerless to do anything to stop those events IF the paranoid Abacha had ordered them. The only thing u might blame him for then is that he should have resigned, but that would have meant certain death for him and his entire family. It was a catch 22 situation but I don't feel sorry for him because while his reign lasted he was all over the place feeling like a god. Now he answering for his past sins.
Even if they eventually free him - which is not beyond imagination - in the mean time he'd have to confront his mortality in uncertainty, and that should be scary. I don't envy him at all.

Let's understand that there is never a wrong time to execute justice, so I don't buy the idea that this is the wrong time. It is even argued that justice delayed is justice denied.
The judge should be praised for his bravery. I just hope that the rest of the justice system hence act in the same manner.

well Im sorry that you are ashamed of your people

Nigerians are pathetic and colorstruck.
anyway Im done dicussing this here with you brainwashed cows

Like I said Nigerians are reetarded

Haba, heart robber!  grin grin grin  Nne take it easy. I thought you didn't like igbo peeps, so why are you crying for us?

I get your point though. Genevieve and Stephanie immediately came to my mind when I read that, and with the dust this cast is stirring they may yet get it. But I think its solely a marketing thing. Thandie Newton has starred in some good movies herself and is not exactly an upstart. Between her and the Nigerian actresses I think hollywood will favor her in that role.

phreakabit:

Well I am sorry you see things that way. . . . For all I care To hell with GEJ and his ambitions I could give a droppings less about him. I was speaking based on a bunch of decisions taken against Nigeria by other Afican countries in various African organisations. You come across as one who seems to think they know too much. But at a closer look, it becomes obvious that you are an epitome of the term "Jack of all trade master of none."  I am not implying that you wear "Yellow shorts" but I have been thinking. . . . When will mentally deranged people, learn to read posts properly before jumping into conclusion, and making excessively slow comments? Possibly when people like you learn to channel their energy towards their sub-blue collar 9 to 5 job, and stop dying to be relevant on a freaking ONLINE FORUM! Anyway, judging by your post, you have transcended the point of stupidity into a dimension unknowing. You are an unchallengeable proof that evolution can actually go in reverse mode too.
Next time learn to make your opinion known without insults.

grin grin grin
You are trying too hard to sound intelligent. Did I make you feel small?
At the end of the day you couldn't answer these questions: So because they did not support his badly thought out, power hungry decision to renege on a gentleman's agreement to put forward the Benin president it means they have a grudge against Nigeria eh? When will you guys get your heads out of Jonadunce's ars3 and become your own men?
Please provide a coherent response if you must reply, otherwise I am out of here.

P.S: If you're Nigerian you should know that 'insults' like olodo and idi0t are 'a tap on the cheek' kind of 'insults'. No offeiiense

If he had any sense and shame at all he'd have even sent his foreign minister there in the first place so he could stay back home and try to fix all the wahala on the home front as well as save some face wrt his ignominious stance during the Ghadaffi saga.
Rather he went there with an overbloated entourage to seek to usurp an agreement. Thank God they disgraced him. Id1ot!
Romance / Re: Are You The Reacher Or The Settler In Your Relationship? by MarcAnthon(m): 3:48am On Jan 29, 2012
Interesting topic for once on NL!

I think the argument makes a lot of sense. But that would only be at the beginning of the RLship if it succeeds. In a little while they both should level up and sort of stand on equal footing.
If one partner continues to feel like he/she has had to shortchange his/herself, condescension results, resentment builds up and issues will arise naturally. It will become a case of 'you should thank your stars you have me' and that will be the beginning of the end.

But I have to say that some people have a false impression of their worth or importance and they may not be any better than the one they think they are settling for. Lord knows they may even be the reacher.

You all should spare the guy the criticisms of his achievement abeg. Do I sense jealousy? Some are okay with saying it, some aren't.

@Solomon,  I think as someone suggested, you should talk to your mom and then your dad. But then again you are a man. I can't imagine anyone telling me who or who not to marry. That's simply a no go area for anyone.

But bros, I thought you were the one criticizing me in the politics section for being away and still having the audacity to talk about Naija. That we should come back home before we can even participate in discussions about our country. How come you want to leave? Why not stay and try to force change.

Politics / Re: Wikileak's Revelation On Fuel Subsidy & Gej Corrupt Practices by MarcAnthon(m): 8:58pm On Jan 08, 2012
Johny Pang:

Wikileaks advices that Nigerians should get informed and stand for their human right or bow down to the dictatorship of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
Wikileaks admits of having in their possession secret/classified documents of bank transaction of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan transferring 23billion dollars from Nigeria excess crude oil account and 80billion dollars from Nigeria foreign reserves account to his private account, that the removal of the country's fuel subsidy is a way of covering his tracks.
Wikileaks advices that to triple the price of fuel in the Nigeria, an under developing country of a population of 150million citizens, will increase inflations by 120% and devalue the country's currency by 50%, I.e citizens will have to pay double the price for a commodity(goods and services)
Wikileaks advices that Nigerian citizens to Protest against the dictatorship of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for 5working days for a start (that's from Monday-Friday) so the Government will feel the impact when the value of the stock exchange falls and the economy is at a standstill, google Wikileaks and read more.

Give us a link OP. And they should substantiate these claims. It is not enough to ADVICE. Publish the cables, give us bank accounts and all, if they are really sincere. Then we can make our own decisions.

I hope for our sakes sha that this is all falsehood. $103B dollars?

BTW even an 80% cut in basic Salary means absolute nothing.

Keep your basic salary and scrap all the criminal benefits/allowances this people recieve. How many Nigerians are on free housing? free healthcare? free education? free car loan. Scrap all those dodgy allowances and let public officials live on their salary like the rest of us.

I agree with you on this point.

It is to the benefit of the masses when the legislature is not a rubber stamp of the executive. The REPS have done well. Now it is time for Jonathan to heed this call and also deal his own blow to the legislature by sending them a bill for drastic reduction in their salaries and allowances. With the present public outcry, this will be his best move at this time as the public will be totally in support and the REPS and Senate will have no choice if only to save face.

But the big question is whether Jonathan really up to it.
