Yes! Akwa ibom state, known for best entertainment centres and hotels while real things like industrialization and education are in shambles. The only real company in Uyo is Champion Breweries PLC. Thank God for ExxonMobil in the life of their state, it wouldn't have been quite rosy. I was taken aback when I saw this particular hotel rising out of a rural street, opposite a local motor Park. I'm sure they must block the windows to prevent such views if they want patronage in that hotel. A state should be known for lasting features like industry, education and people resource development. Infrastructures and built things will not last forever, you know. All these things are called 'afeefeeyeye' in Yoruba language. I hope the new government will be more visionary this time and not just invest in choirs and entertainment venues |
adeitoro:I don't see igbo's owning cooperate firms that employs labour. We all know it is their businesses where they employ many of their boys that works for them. What exactly are you proving here? And besides, have you ever considered what will become of the businesses you've worked hard to build in another man's land when you form your own country? Didn't South Africa teach you a lesson? |
I just wanted to appreciate the fact that Nairaland Front page has become very democratic lately. We should see more of these often, not topics that are meant to sell ads faster (hehehehe) Nice pics BTW |
The very same set threatening sessation will still claim Lagos as "no man's land" under the same breathe. So are we expecting Lagos to be shared too? I'm always curious as to why the igbo's always feel they are one peculiar tribe in Nigeria. I mean we are over 200, and one tribe feeling we can't do without them is bullshit. Like the proverbial Oyingbo market, if one seller fails to show up for the day, his slot will be fully occupied. I must add that Buhari is not Awolowo. |
PenSniper:But haba! That was quite harsh. Are you a tribal profiler? |
By tomorrow, our Igbo friends will go and pull out a link of how their sacred language has become legal tender in Greece. Expect something similar in the front page soon. Yoruba and Igbo's, playing rivalry since 11 B. C |
Here is Lagos state taking the lead in energy generation, but Akwa ibom state that receives much more federal allocation will continue to build more hotels and entertainment centers with state funds. Yet power is at an all time low across the state. I am residing there currently, so I know what I'm saying. Now by tomorrow, we will have people blaming the siting of companies administrative headquarters in Lagos. I sure hope Ogun and Osun is keeping an eye on their neighbor. We all need to take a pro-active measure at solving Nigeria's energy crisis and it has to start from somewhere |
Sorry to say, but I choose not to be politically correct. You foolish ex-corper. You chose to give your meagre allowance to a man that can buy a country and expect us to be clapping for you. Ordinary Yar'adua that died, do you know how much he had before he left power prematurely? Of all the social issues in this country, I wonder how people think that killing themselves for the presidency is most noble. We all ought to avoid those walking for Buhari or sweeping the streets for Jonathan. These people are not helping anyone with their attention seeking motives. |
I must quickly add these few more points worth considering also. * Quit lobbying. I know employment opportunities is quite slim for fresh graduates these days, but most states would rather still employ their indigenes than an outsider. It's still one Nigeria, and corpers work mostly in the public sector, if you get what I mean. You will end up being used (especially the ladies) and with lots of regrets. * Choose all these professional courses wisely. Some of them will require you travelling frequently and they gulp much of your meagre allowance. I always muse to myself that if everyone is a health /fire safety technician, who will be left to save? *Do a business. The rural villages offer ample land for agriculture and your admirers will be willing to work for a token if you can Marshall them properly. You are a stranger, so look for ways to convert opportunities all around you to wealth *Make most of the one year. It's not 30 years. Don't just be a proverbial snake that passed through the rock, leaving no traces. Get involved with the community. Mentor someone, be friends with the villagers and stop this nonsense of corper only friendship. I hear employers value personal CDS projects more... *ends section of unsolicited advice and quietly walks out of the thread. |
To the experts out there, I would really like to know why popular technology companies that Nigerians spend a huge chunk of their monies in, not listed in the Nigerian Stock Exchange. I mean why can't we buy shares of companies like Jumia, Tecno, dstv, Google Nigeria and co. I believe these companies to be foreign owned but with strong local presence. Pardon my unenlightened perspective in this case, but I would like more light thrown into the matter. These companies are milking us dry and it seems we are not being able to benefit from them. |
You Forgot to add the fact that they are so full of 'bad mind' towards themselves and their neighbors. They also like to put themselves first in everything, howbeit selfishly. Ask them and they will tell you they are the best tribe in Nigeria to swell their ego. Like as if anyone cares. |
Android games and ebooks.?? |
Is it only games that you have? |
plaetton:Why don't you people don't like like to hit the nail on the head? The guy was right. Yoruba Pastors barely engage in stuffs like these. I am currently in the South South and I see a lot of religious manipulation going on around. Seems anyone that has the gift of anointing or prophecy has now turned it into an enterprise. Funny enough, most with the same gifts in Yoruba land are very poor and don't exploit their followers. I won't judge anyone but everyone of us shall get served with what we deserve eventually. I wonder why anyone should prey on people's problems to make a living. This is really evil |
The car owner probably didn't pray well before he left home that morning. This is a metaphysical scenario. How do you explain this to the insurance company? #DeliverUsFromEvil |
somegirl1:Finally a reasonable reaction! I hope you know that the issue of late marriage of many igbo ladies is a prominent issue amongst the tribe. I wonder why many ladies should be denied their right to a happy life because of some repulsive tradition by people who are mostly after their stomach. I believe this among other reasons is what necessitated desperation of some otherwise hardworking people. (look at the ones that were recently killed in Indonesia). Marriage is timed, making money requires patience and endurance. These paths don't cross. Let's call a spade a spade. |
bishopstan:I understand you're never reasonable people. Wait till a white man reads this to call your bluff. vivalavida:You're one sad, inferior minded fellow and you have my pity! |
What a repulsive and shameful attitude of selling their daughters! I wonder how anyone in his or her right senses would agree this is something worth being proud of in this modern age. I am thankful I am never going to marry an igbo girl! When Yoruba girls are way more sophisticated and educated, Akwa ibom or Calabar girls more beautiful as well as other strong point from other tribes. Who cares! |
It's quite sad that these ones to die are the foot soldiers. I'm quite sure that a rich shiek is profiting from the illicit business they sought to undertake. |
I will recommend Ibadan. Cheap city, proximity to Lagos, increasing business potentials among others. BTW, Uyo is just an over-rated city. Apart from the modern infrastructures, the few entertainment outlets, there is nothing else of interest here. |
I predict that Jimi Agbaje will win for PDP in Lagos. Reason being that he is the underdog pitted against a 'giant'. Ambode poses his impressive certif's and recently reinforced backing but Jimi seems to be a more credible candidate. Lagosians this time will vote for credibility if the elections were free and fair. My opinion anyway |
Though I honestly sympathize with Igbo's at this time over what Oba Akiolu and indeed Kunle Afolayan said, but that should not stop me from giving you an appropriate reply. Firstly, it's understandable that Igbo people like placing themselves over others. There are more than 200 ethnic groups represented in this Nigeria, but you really have the guts to term yourself as the 'great Igbo tribe'. What makes you think you're tribally superior? Also, do you really mean other Yoruba States are truly backward? Have you considered the modern Ibadan, Oyo state that is currently an investor's haven? What of Ogun state that has the highest number of universities in Nigeria? Do you know how sterling that quality is? Ondo state is another oil-producing state that is currently Underutilizing her potentials... among others I read one Igbo guy's comment to a post yesterday that said most Yoruba people don't leave their home zone, claiming 'ile baba mii'. I just observed with pity, how unenlightened such comment was. The modernist Yoruba person has recognized that their home land is going grey (as a result of overdevelopment) and as such have begun the exodus to far-away lands. Please swallow your pride and observe things more critically. Some words are better left unsaid! |
Some people really do talk like they own Nigeria. Well, Mr Oba of Lagos, I wish you knew what became of the late amala godfather in Ibadan before you made your incendiary statement towards the igbos. We'll see how your 'opa ase' will defeat the card reader on Saturday, asshole! |
very impressive pictures! we throw garbage into the gutters because we do not want to pay to dispose it properly, yet we cry 'foul' when rain falls and washes out out gutters. Yet we expect Sai Buhari to come and transform our lived when he has stabilized oil prices internationally to protect the naira. |
Hahahahahah! electric cars in Nigeria are like cars that have no engines; or those toy cars we buy for children Well maybe it will include a spacious boot to store a big generator and much fuel..... |
FOOTYNEWS:SCAM!!! DONT CLICK THE LINK. IT IS A WEB REFERRAL LINK |
na hot cake o! Everyone is currently doing MBA; HSC and other common professional qualifications out there. I think the only way to get ahead of the competition is to do something entirely novel. When you look at the possibilities of GIS in agriculture and diverse fields these days, then you would know you've made a wise choice. Just like that maxim: I will prepare myself, then I will wait. You could be recruited by a foreign firm someday. Are you doing the Masters course in any university within the country? if yes, where?? Best wishes. |
Sorry I have to chip this in. Your rewards for NYSC community development services are not really motivated by the awards you get. If you truly did all these things, then why should you still be seeking human rewards. Think of it this way, you have enriched your CV and left an indelible legacy somewhere in Nigeria. Best wishes |
Senesense alert! I suggest for the sake of the common good; we donate baba to science! |
yes... smoke it before sales. It raises the price and keeps longer. Also beef up your marketing strategy. |
stinggy:you must be a very judgemental person in real-time. Judge not so you won't be judged! |
ayoku777:what of drinking sugar dissolved in water? does that imply breaking of fast tooo? |
