He was referring to the generation that will witness the composite signs of his presence when he is enthroned in heaven.
To fully understand what Jesus said the question you should have asked is why would have so many bad things happen on planet earth when Jesus begins his rulership in heaven? Revelation 7:7-12

Bro I was already most active on here before I became an atheist so that is not a good way to judge how I spend my time. Believers talk about faith in God as we think of how to convince everyone that there is a Creator and we need to know Him and worship Him so it's still part of the things having to do with faith.

Jesus promised his future corulers that he is going to prepare a government house for them in heaven. John 14:1-3
Therefore those going to heaven with Jesus will be numbered {Revelation 14:1} unlike their earthly subjects who can't be counted! Revelation 7:9
Nobody will force this truth on you with weapons it's a free gift for those who are humbly seeking the righteousness of God! Zephaniah 2:2-3

Centuries before his time the nation of Israel splitted into two which are the ten Northern tribes later known as the Samaritans and the two Southern tribes known as Jews. Samaritans stopped listening to prophets who were rejecting their forms of worship as they kept doing what was wrong in their choice of worship so by the time Jesus walked the earth only the Jews had the complete scriptures from Genesis to Malachi as for Samaritans its only the five books of Moses they regarded as inspired writings.
So Jesus regarded the Jews as prepared race awaiting the Messiah since they had all the scriptures to guide them. John 4:22
That is why he specifically told his first century disciples not to enter into the cities of Samaritans (for they can't know all the promises of God regarding the Messiah) but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel (those earnestly waiting for the Messiah) Matthew 10:6

This problem began when Satan induced a Babylonian king whose name was Nebuchadnezzar to merge politics with worship. Before Nebuchadnezzar the Egyptians and Assyrians world powers viewed their kings as Gods so whenever any king is installed either in Egypt or Assyria such a king is viewed as a God on his own.
But during the time of Nebuchadnezzar the king realized that those world rulers before him have crossed the line instead of having their own God they took up the titles they are not entitled to.
So Satan persuaded Nebuchadnezzar to make the status of a human God then all the nations under his control will have to worship that God.
From that time till today false religions and their prophets has been promoting that form of worship except the one and only true religion.
That is why Jesus said there are two roads {Matthew 7:13-14} the true religion totally independent of political influence and false religion totally under the influence of politics.
So if you believe in politics as a solution to the problems facing mankind please don't deceive yourself whether you call people atheist, theist or deist you are a worshiper the only difference is you don't know what you are worshiping!🙂
