A missing catalytic converter affects fuel consumption (high). Fixing another one is good but with a tech who kniws the job well. First thing for them is to check the the state if its being shattered or removed completely. If shattered I advice you remove completely cos this can in turn block the exhaust system and cause a horible damage to the engine |

Is your Abs light illuminated on your cluste? Sounds like an Abs pump problem. Abs pump can cost as far as 800k depending on the ride. @ op I advice you run a scan on your abs module and this would allow your mechanic see more clearly instead of working blindly. Lastly does the brake pedal tap when you try to depress the brake |

justi4jesu: Try to Understand him clearly, he wants to go with the mechanic to get the Engine, I don't see anything wrong. It is the proper thing to do. I would do same if i were in his shoes, atleast to know what I'm paying for and know it is genuine. So when it faults, I know where to go. What's your profession? Is that how you allow your clients to follow you about to get materials needed for a job. No professional does that. Even here @ Bosch PTY no 1 does that. If you wnat to follow its better you go all by yourself. Why can't you put on your overhaul as well to say you want to work with him in fixing the said part(s) as well |

hoodboy: @coldplay007 I actually wouldn't recommend Gazzuzz to anybody, dude is quite petty. I had contacted him about my car, drove all the way from Surulere to Ogba on Saturday, he told me my engine would need to be replaced I heeded his counsel asked him to get me costing. On getting to His place today with plans of dropping off my car to return tomorrow for us to go get an Engine, dude started catching feelings, telling me "I should go look for a roadside mechanic who I will follow to the market to buy parts" for crying out loud we are talking of Engine replacement why shouldn't I be involved in the procurement process, even if I'm coming as a silent observer. Gazzuzz bluntly told me I should go back with my vehicle, just because I asked to go pick up my Engine with him. Saying I was disappointed is a huge understatement. Nonetheless I'm glad it happened at this point, not when I have invested my scarce resources and he starts to bring up shitty attitude. Same way I trusted my car to Qualityovenbake on Nairaland and he did a messed up job, coupled with the fact that he was way behind schedule. I believe there are 2 sides to this 1) go to the market yourself without the help of gazzuzz and buy the engine yourself since you wanna be involved 2 ) Gazzuzz helps with the buying of the engine and he fully takes responsible for whatever happens since he is buying with all the experience he has on the field As for number 1 would you want a situation where you go a bad engine believing its ok only for it to be installed and it happens to be a bad one. If the later comes into play are you gonna pay for a second installment if you are billed cos we talkn about man power here and technicality |

[quote author=robedu post=34341470]I drive toyota avensis 2007.
And my mechanic is making life a living hell for me, when the car has issue, most times i cannot be repaired once, he will repair the first, bring it and the same thing will happen and he will do it again, sometimes it takes up to 3 to 4 times to get one issue resolved.
The one that happen now is so annoying, last week the car accelerator at some point will not move fast even if you press with all your power and finally it will stop. and then i will start it again
My Mechanic came to pick it up, fix it and bring it for me on Sunday and on Monday the same thing happen.

Car Talk › Re: Total Quartz 9000 5W-40 Engine Oil Good To Service This Car? by mayor2013: 11:13am On May 31, 2015 |
Costee: Goodness me! Isn't it clear from the manual I've quoted verbatim? If Dubai is hotter than Nigeria then it's inadvisable to "stick to 5w30." Hm, places hotter in the US than Nigeria. Yes, no doubt but they don't have unremittingly high temperatures as we do. The same place that might have >35 degrees C could fall to <5 degrees. Do we have such fluctuations in Nigeria? The point is, if you use lower viscous oil in Nigeria they'd degrade so fast because the temps are constantly high. If you do don't change them on time then you risk your engine knocking. Strange, you harp so much on the much vaunted 5w30 recommended by manuals, now when you are presented with another manual that prescribes otherwise and gives variations you say such manual cannot be right. Have you ever thought why in the so-called hot areas of the US their radiator coolant contains anti-freeze properties? Here in Nigeria what we just have is the coolant? We don't need anti-freeze of course. For you, of course, the coolants here are to be discarded because they don't meet the requirements of the manuals. You had just hit the nail on the head. |
Car Talk › Re: Total Quartz 9000 5W-40 Engine Oil Good To Service This Car? by mayor2013: 11:28pm On May 30, 2015 |
Costee: The answer stares you in the face, yet you refuse to consider it. The car came from a temperate region; even then the original owner found it wise to move up to 10w40. Use our 20w50 which the manual referred to as "for other climate." Let me quote what the factory service manual of your car says: "For warm and cold areas: 10W-30 is suitable. The use of 5W-30 can have a positive effect on fuel economy (ACEA A1-98). For hot areas: 20W-40 and 20W-50 are suitable. For cold and warm areas: 10W-30 is preferable for ambient temperatures above −20°C (−4°F). On turbocharger models, 5W-20 is not recommended, and 5W-30 should be use only below 0°C (32°F). For hot areas: 20W-40 and 20W-50 are suitable." Where would you put Nigeria: cold, warm, or hot? Let me also remind you that there are places in the us that are as far hotter than Nigeria yet they stick to 5w30. Is Dubai not hotter than Nigeria. What grade of oil do you fink they use? |

Costee: Of course you can't see the logic in the sole example I've used. But do you have empirical data to prove the harmful effects of 20W50 in cars used in Nigeria? Hang on till it does the damage |
Car Talk › Re: Is Fort Oil(formerly AP) Super V Engine Oil 20w 50 A Good Oil? by mayor2013: 1:41pm On May 28, 2015 |
Costee: An incipient timing chain whine in my 2006 Maxima (the 6th Gen) was cured when I discontinued the use of a lower viscous engine oil for 20W50. The timing chain whine is an known issue with the 6th Gen, and even in the US car enthusiast are now well advised to use 10W40 in addressing the issue. Sludge, I believe, comes into the scene either from disuse or unusual extended use. I change my oil at 5,000km and I've never experience sludge or poor engine performance. All this is personal experience you'd say; but then I've been well served. Why shoot yourself in the leg? are you gonna use just one sample of car to generalise?to think of it you used a car with a known engine problem You can continue with the use of any type of oil you wish to use. I cannot convince you in choosing how you maintain your car. I think this topic has been discussed on car talk severally |

You all should be ready to face the problem of sludge build up in your engines by using 20w-50 eventually leading to knocking out your engines |
