Moderators, May the soul of Mandela rest in peace! How do you guys decide whose post on this breaking news should stay and which should close, without appearing biased? I believe on news like this one of you moderators should open an official thread, any parallel one from members should then be shut down regardless of whose it is. I say this because I see you are closing them arbitrarily and guys will soon start to complain. |
berem: He sent them to private universities in Nigeria and you're complaining. Is he not better than Asari Dokubo and Seriake Dickson who sponsor their indigents to the university built by Asari himself in Benin Republic? The difference between public and private university is subsidy. Government subsidizes the cost of what students and their parents would pay to complete the degree program. States budget for education and Federal government also budget for education. In addition, universities get grants for research and faculty programs and further, philantrophers donate or build structures for name adoption. The reason the universities get grants and private donations is because of government commitment in the first place. So when government takes its budgeted education funding and spends it in private schools thats conflict of interest. We have here a situation where government is now subsidizing private universities. Private universities are private investments and operate in open market, you prove your worth to get subscription and patronage and this drive for competition improves excellence and value for the graduating students. If this action is not decried we run a risk that universities will begin to compete for subsidy from government. This will indulge political endorsements and godfatherism and we end up with proliferation of private universities all over the place. Currently we have people not academically or socially qualified to own nurseryshool, but they own and operate university. Let us not make an already bad situation even worse! |
sincerenigerian: What is immoral about sending deserving students to private schools?Im not qualifying whether or not the students are deserving, Im sure every student is deserving. Im commenting on the Governor's decision. Please reframe your question so I can answer you. |
naptu2: I was about to post satellite pictures of NAA and MMIA so you'll see the runways (no, I'm not MusiwaYes, I should have checked that before I spoke. I went to look after a second thought on your comment and sure enough there it was, just one! Thanks for raising that point. I think someone else was saying you are musiwa, not me. |
Guess what?? You guys are right, it has only 1 runway. Naptu, I take that back. How did this airport get international status? Go and check it out on google earth. Here is more info. Runways at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport |
No government should be spending its fund patronizing private universities while the public ones are shut down from lack of funding. This is a gross act of bad judgement from Rabiu. |
The Kano State Government says it has sponsored 450 students to study various degree programmes in three private universities in the country.Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso said this when he addressed the beneficiaries at the Government House, Kano, on Thursday. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 250 students would study in Igbinedion University, Edo, while 100 students each would go to Bells University, Otta, and Crescent University in Abeokuta, respectively.‘’This is an opportunity for you, most of whom are the children of the less-privileged’’, the governor told the students. He urged them to be good ambassadors of the state in particular and the country in general.‘’We will monitor your conduct and academic performance at all times because your success is our success.‘’I will also like to assure our people that our administration will continue to live up to its expectation by investing heavenly towards the expansion, rehabilitation and provision of infrastructure in our educational institutions.‘’This is necessary in order to create an enabling environment needed by the youth and good people of Kano State to pursue and realise their potentials.’’Kwankaso said the state government would spend about N1 million on each of the 450 students, annually. He said the state government would establish a special college for the study of Chinese language in Panshekara, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.Already, he said, the state government had concluded the necessary arrangement with the Chinese government to train 30 teachers who would subsequently train more teachers before the take-off of the college in 2014. |
youngalex: I tink lagos Govt. Should approve an international sex market(like sex village) where all sex workers will converge to ply their trade....if you need sex u go there...shikinaAhhh, another enemy of the state, calling for government to sponsor an international ashewo joint. |
naptu2: The National Assembly blocked proposals for a (64 billion naira) 2nd runway, saying that it's too expensive (I think that they thought that the contract was inflated).Naptu, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) has standards which airports designated and licensed for international commuter operations anywhere in the world must meet. Part of that is the sets I mentioned earlier to have headwind and tailwind aerodynamics for planes taking off or arriving. Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja is not an airstrip; it's a standard gauge international airport. There is something else going on, the problem is equipment failure at the airport. NAVAIDS (Navigational Aids) are ground electronic equipments that assist pilots in landing and take off. There are two flight operation methods - visual and instrument. Because commercial jet pilots fly under instrument rules, particularly when they are in approach, as much as five miles or more from an airport, they depend on ground electronics to guide their touchdown. If those electronics fail or are in operation but giving incorrect readings then we can have catastrophy on the ground. In that case, the number of runways is irrelevant, the airport must be shut down until the NAVAIDS are restored and calibrated for correct readout. I strongly believe there are issues with Abuja NAVAIDS and would explain why the Saudi Plane is unable to leave and no other plane can leave or come in. The legislative action not to expand the runways may just be talking about adding more to the minimum sets initially built when the airport received its operation license. Thanks for sharing that angle. |
That is impossible. International airports have multiple runways for precisely that reason. If a runway is unusable there usually are two parallel sets aligned N-S and E-W to give airlift assist with tailwind for departing and headwind for landing. So at minimum there will be four. If one is blocked what happened to other three? |
arcbabe: Do they have to engage in prostitution to support their families, what about other women that work hard just to support their families. You see women cleaning the streets of lagos, selling petty things and some selling pure water just to earn a living. Can't this prostitutes engage in other trade other than prostitution? I see no reason why some men will be in support of prostitution when they can't stand to see their sister, wife or daughter engage in such act. The men are patronising them that is why they don't want to leave the trade. If you can't watch your sister, wife or daughter prostitute, why will you support other people relatives to prostitute or even patronise them?Prostitution is a trade, it involves an exchange. Im not supporting prostitution, no, but Im aware and agitated of the fallout and how that might affect female members of my own family or other women in the community if your proposal were effected. Thats a dangerous proposal and i again call on the mods to stamp this thread shut. This proposal is not community friendly! |
This is BS!! This is a calculated political move and orchestrated from some pro GEJ quarters to forge a unified Southern bloc. Gej has just about 14months left in office and from nowhere they now remember that Yoruba is a neighbor to Ijaw. Not at all, we are not neighbors! Let each group remember how its cap fits, we dont wear cowboyhats in West and neither do we adorn red winterknits, we wear gobi and abetiaja. Gej and his pillars have had their time, APC is coming in with broom brands to sweep out inefficiencies, attachments are unsolicited. |
arcbabe: you expect motorist to stop passing that road which is close to their house and take alternate route just because of prostitutes? That is far fetched, but for others with a passthrough for much distant destination, it will be a nice alternative pending when the govt get a more effective proposal from you and Julianbond |
Agent007, Seriously, i want you and arcbaby to support the government efforts to fight crime, serious crime. Propose ways to manage the traffic problem but dont shut that market down. Beside, it might surprise you to know some of those women do that business to support and finance their children education. Have you thought about that angle? |
tensor777: There is a dirty little secret about the johns that patronize ashawos. Namely that over time they spend much more on entertaining harlots than their married counterparts of the same age and occupation spend on their wives. There are some johns that immediately they earn some good cash from a job or contract that they disappear into brothels and don't emerge until they are flat broke again. There are prostitute joints in hausaland. They have quarters on the outskirts of town. Its a redlight district when you pull in there is only one chat and it better not be about sharia. Thats why its been easy for boko to target and kill many people in one joint spot because its zoned. |
JulianBond007: If it will stop men from patronizing prostitutes, I agree totally to castration. Aahhhh, communist!! In some countries when prostitute union go on strike women stay off the streets for good sense. And here we have you guys proposing a shut down of puzzey market because it creates traffic bottleneck. Why cant the drivers of these vehicles take a detour? bypass obalende rd, go through side streets, go through st gregorys and come out on other side at keffi. |
Nigeria has about 10 or more overlays of security agencies and tactical command units. Beyond that we have a President who is a Phd holder, former VP, served previously as Governor and deputy Governor. No other President in Nigeria has had the fortune of such vertical depth in public administration on their resume. The coupling of these two assets are more than adequate to drawup a war room strategy for a total demolition of bokoharam. Quite honestly, bokoharam is not too big a scale of threat for a state executive to tackle and destroy. To say the Federal Government is struggling and wobbling in its erratic and intermittent successes against the group is quite shameful. The extent of the attack on military formations in Maiduguri is far past terrorism, that is war. The invasion and assault of the Federal Military grounds and its personnell is an attack on the country. That our President will jet out of the country barely 24hrs after that attack speaks very poorly of the skills and competence of this veteran public administrator. |
Sincere 9gerian: Leaders are not elected to be incubators of ideas. Rather they are elected to GET THE JOB DONE. You dont have to an Albert Einstein to know you have to provide the basic needs of your people as a leader,eg provide portable drinking water, stable electricity, fast railways, more ports, etc. And the system and technology for achieving these things already exist. So what is needed is to get them DONE.Really Kindly tell Gej to GET THE JOB DONE on bokoharam. |
Where are these mods when you need them? Moderators, please put a close stamp on this darn thread. These are communists, enemy of the state here. Next they will start advocating that men should be castrated. Shut this thing down now! Im out of here |
arcbabe: Am not an enemy of the state but aggitating the right of law abiding citizens of the state. This girls abstruct the free flow of traffic and you think it is right for them to be on the streets endangering their lives all because some useless men are patronising them? Lagos state government should know that this girls are constituting nuisance in the society and should be taken from our streets pls!A greater nuisance awaits the society if you close ashewo joints all over the state. You cannot close one and leave others open.. What you need is government providing awareness to the prostitutes and their patrons that creating traffic congestion is intolerable and can carry fines, not shutting them down. Some men no longer sleep with their wives of 30yr marriage and need it elsewhere and dont want the emotional entanglement of a second marriage so this is their outlet. If you take it away you wont stop their urges, youwill spur their creativity to get it some other way. They will start covetting other mens wives and gravitate towards things which before their conscience would have never allowed. When a man is under the spell he must get that puzzey and please if he gets it from ashewo then let him continue to do so or he will become an uncontrollable monster and start r-a-p-i-n-g innocent women and young girls. Do you not know these things? |
JulianBond007: If you cannot control your sex urge, get a carton of Lux soap for masturrbbation and stop patronizing whores. You must suffer from ED, telling a hustler to control his sex urge. You dont understand anything about man's sexuality. |
tensor777: But why is this man taking it so personal. You are not just a john to my assessmantYou ought to cover ypur face in shame. Ashewo trade is a safety net for society. I dont know what society you came out of. Go and study the antidotes for managing social crimes. |
JulianBond007: Are you one of them? Yes or No? Stop talking nonsense Ogbeni! One of who? The ashewo patrons? I dont patronize ashewo but i dont want their patronizers turned loose on innocent girls and women when their safe outlet for stress is taken away. |
tensor777: What a load of nonsense. Prostitution is against the law. If you can't do without fornication kukuma go and marry. It is that simple.Be quiet! Nonsense!! If you take those prostitute market away s-e-x crime against women will go up. Mod, please come and close this yeye thread. These are enemies of the state. |
arcbabe: babe I know they are angry because they are patronising this prostitutes. I have noticed each time a thread is opened about this obalende prostitutes they become aggressive and instead of contributing their quota to eradicate prostitution, they instead result to attacking the person talking about how this prostitutes can be eradicated from our streets.Eradicate ![]() You going to make me eradicate this thread. Do you know how many men patronize these women? and you want to kill that business, in other words, you want men to start assaulting innocent women on streets? Are you a friend or enemy of Lagos State? |
bilms: Why is govt in control of state wealth if not for providing means of livelihood for the people?Excuse me ![]() I swear if i open a civic academy and teach principles of public administration to Nigerians I go get rich. |
Alao once played that card when he was governor, Alaafin turned the table on him. |
arcbabe: which pix do you need when you can just come to obalende road opposite Dodan barracks and see them live and direct. My friend are you talking about prostitutes for mammy market? They been selling at that spot before you were born. Small pikin wan kill Lagos IGR. ![]() |
Whose suggestion is this to get rid of prostitutes? Please stop it! Thats why many men hustle..they look forward to that puzzey. From the men hustle we collect tax. From the prostitutes police collect toll. ![]() Mod please shut this post down. |
Nnewi1stSon: Oh God! Why did you curse my state with such a clueless buffon? Where in the world do politicians dish out money like santa claus? Obi has dolled out more than 20 billion since late last year( to churches,Schools, traditional rulers,e.t.c) meanwhile such huge amount could have been put to better use.Theres no population to spend the money on. Its only 1.764 million registered voters in the entire state. |
This is not first time farmers in Enugu get money from government, its an annual ritual. Where is the result of past investment? Soon as these farmers get the money they pack their plastic bags and their family, buy bus ticket and head to Lagos to join apprentice league in Ladipo. Anyway, things have changed, tell them not to forget Babaloja's cut. ![]() |

). It's also confirmed on the airport's website and on wikipedia.
