I think this is another good site for data, it is the Nigeria's Federal Government Daily Spending Report. Source is tweeter https://opentreasury.gov.ng/index.php/component/content/article/11-dpr/3015-2020-daily-payment?Itemid=101 I tried to send the books I promised, especially to Amoo Segun (or is it Samuel) who dropped his email, but the stuff keeps bouncing back. It's not something difficult though, just that I'm distracted sort of. I will do by God's grace once I clear my head. In the meantime, check the above link for real time financial data. 8 Likes 1 Share |

SpecialAdviser: At the bold part. Ambode has no choice in the matter because, he didn't "chicken out" like you put it and he actually put up a good fight even in the face of all the odds against him. One, the entire party structure in the State were against him, even his Deputy and members of his cabinet, including kitchen cabinet were not behind him. Two, in the whole of Lagos, due to his abysmal performance, hardly would you find anyone who is in support of him. Compare that to during Fashola's time, when he was going to be given the same treatment. In other words, your comparison of Lagos and Edo in this scenerio isn't correct as they don't relate. Sometimes, when we do analysis, we should drop our biasness and prejudice, write from an informed position rather than whipping up unnecessary sentiments under the guise of public discuss and analysis. 3 Likes |

Samzeal: Python MySQL R Power BI, and Tableau. I paid for Mosh online courses on MySQL and Python. I want to have a good grasp of all these courses first, before going into their application in data science. I don't just want to jump into the data science application without having a good grasp and background understanding of what and what each of the programmes are used for or can be used for. Other ones I am watching free YouTube videos and reading free books on Amazon Kindle. I don't know if that can work in Nigeria, I'd encourage you guys to check it out. There are a handful of books there. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Most machine, on budget, will do the work of a data analytics or data scientist, particularly if you have not started earning big time like the original creator of this thread. All you need is a bigger RAM, 16GB minimum, with a good processor speed, say a base speed of 2.5Ghz, that can turbo up to... well, I don't know, and a solid state disk (SSD) minimum of 512GB. Baba, once your machine has any of this, you're good to go. Forget about name. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Family / Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by mbhs139(m): 7:51pm On May 31, 2020 |
bukatyne: In my case, when I was leaving for Canada, I set up a business, with the intention to take care of domestic expenses in Nigeria with the income from that business, an investment of over 8 million naira, because I don't want to be sending money home from the abroad. As I write this, that business is in shambles. They ruined it the moment I hoped into the plane. I'm just trying to revive it again because I can't allow it to just die like that, it will be a great loss to me. My wife and I are always fighting over this matter because she advised me against is in the first place. Now, tell me, would you blame me if I decided not to send money home to anyone? Yet I still do. I know how much the four weeks Covid-19 lock down in Lagos cost me in terms of Canadian Dollars, and I have not been working since 3rd of April due to Corona. The poster that was talking about people in abroad asking for money from Nigerians back home doesn't know what he's talking about. He thinks we are talking about people in Libya, because I have a couple of guys in Libya then whose family send money to them from Lagos. We are talking about a society where the government takes good care of their citizen and PRs: I earn 2,236CAD every month, for the past two months, for staying at home and keeping safe; my wife, who is on a 28,000CAD OSAP grants per session as a full time student, is also receiving 2000CAD every month due to Covid-19; my two children receives 600CAD each every month; and as a couple we get 400CAD for Goods Sales Tax- GST (Nigeria's equivalent of VAT); Associations of Nigerians in Milton opened a food bank where you can go and get food stuffs and groceries; RCCG Milton organized a drive through sharing of food; what else do you want? 12 Likes 4 Shares |

Toppytek: There's no much to it bro. Just get a HDMI or VGA cable and connect your monitor to the laptop, and do some settings in the views settings. There are lots of YouTube videos to help. The machine is an Asus Vivobook S15, with a touchscreen trackpad. I think Asus is the first to have that on their Machine. You can check the review on YouTube. Having a second screen makes studying easy for you. You open your YouTube video on one screen and follow the examples, hands-on, on the other machine. You may also open your text book same way. There's no issue of data here. I have 20GB on my mobile plan, same as my wife, for 200CAD every month, including two iPhone XR; and an unlimited data for the home plan, which comes with my rent. Home internet is like having electrical power in the apartment. It comes with your rent. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I encourage you guys to check out this site for lots and lots of data. https://catalog.data.gov/dataset I have followed this thread from page one to the last, and this is my first time of commenting. I live in Canada, and after coming across this thread, I had to buy a new laptop and monitor and start my data science course online, even though I have a background in Maths/Statistics from Unilag. However, I'm of the view that it is not entirely correct to say you don't need the knowledge of statistics as some people have made us believe to become a data scientist. I suggest we take courses in basic Statistics, Bayesian Theory in particular 23 Likes 7 Shares

einsteino: In fact, you couldn't have said it better. I always shudder when people come here, from Lagos especially, and want to be forming some kind of attitude. That to me is being an ingrate. Imagine, some Nigerian folks, who have lived all their life in Lagos, are complaining that "Mississauga is too crowded for my liking..." I looked at them ẹ be like say make I slap them Now, having said that, there's something I want to discuss here, and it is very important. It is a first hand report I got and it is so disheartening, embarrassing and unfortunate. I heard some Nigerians are under reporting the money they earned in Nigeria the year before they moved to Canada for tax benefit purpose. If you use turbotax.com, there's a section that ask about your income before you moved into Canada. I was told our people are putting zero in this column and this subsequently increases their tax return. In other words, they're claiming not to have earned anything back home. I laugh. So, someone that moved to Canada in the later part of 2019 didn't earn a dime while he was in Nigeria? But you have forgotten that you claimed to be working and earning income during your IRCC registration. They also forgot that they signed an agreement that any information they provide should and can be shared among the various agencies of the Canadian government. They also forgot that an audit of all tax refund will be carried out subsequently. And if you're found to have misrepresented facts, you'll be made to pay back, with interest. And the funniest part is that they won't come after you in the next two or three years. You would've forgotten, and you know, lies aren't consistent, they know this, and that's why they would give you a long time. That aside, why do some of us want to bring our bad attitude back home here? Do we want to block other people's chance? I mean, this isn't fair, at least to others still on the line. This is a first hand information I'm giving you guys, that some Nigerians are into, on the advise of some so called tax consultants, of the Indian extract. Well, I've said my own ó. 38 Likes 10 Shares |

salford1: Let me also add that you're actually saving big for the future when your earnings cross that threshold where you no longer depends on government's funding and when you're being heavily taxed unlike someone who earns minimum wage. I want you to look at it from the point of view of your CPP, your EI and some other deductions. Take for instance someone who earns, let say 2500 per month and someone who earns say, 7k per month. Let's look at the actual amount that goes into each person's CPP, EI and other retirement and Insurance Plan, and let's also calculate what each of them will be entitled to after retirement. So, it is not a total loss for the person who earns big, pays big tax and get little or no support from government for now, while it is not also a huge gain for the one who earns little and benefit from every of government's palliatives now. The future awaits both of them, when they need it most. That is why we should not rest and take things for granted, but strive hard to be in the band of those who doesn't need all those government entitlement because of tomorrow. Let me also drive home my point with this example. Imagine the person that will enjoy the most if both scenarios painted were to draw 55% of their EI, every month, based on their present income. I mean 55% of your present income as at the time you lost your job. So, you can see what I'm saying. So, don't let us sit down, stretch our leg and be collecting free money anyhow now ó. Let us brake that barrier and get to the top "ni to rí ọjọ́ wá ju..." 26 Likes 8 Shares |

Politics / Re: COVID-19: PDP Says Buhari Offered No Solutions by mbhs139(m): 6:37am On Apr 28, 2020 |
At the end of all the "President Buhari this, President Buhari that..." I thought they would've proffer an alternative, like "this is what we would've done and therefore advise the President to do same..." In the days of the Awolowos, Zik, Shagari and co. There's what they call 'shadow cabinet'. A shadow cabinet provides an alternative to government's policies they feel may not meet the present realities or the demand of the people. They also also laud government's initiative which they feel meets what's on ground. It's not only about condemnation. In Canada where I live, all opposition parties are on the same page with the ruling party. They recognize that this isn't the time to play politics. We are talking about people's life here, and the economy. 3 Likes |

Sports / Re: Clemens Westerhof: I Will Sue Bonfrere To Clear My Name On Selling USA '94 Game by mbhs139(m): 6:55am On Apr 13, 2020 |
fairfora: 1994, I was in SS1, so you couldn't have called me a kid, because as a matter of fact my mates where in SS3. Now, back to the matter. How could anyone who watched that match claim that it was sold? How? If it was actually sold as claimed by Jo, and which you believed, who amongst the players can we hold responsible. One thing is that you can't sell a football match without the complicity of one or two players. Is it Oliseh who couldn't clear the ball off the Italian player's leg, because he was on yellow card already, or was it Eguhavoen who fell on his opponent from behind to earn the Italians a penalty? Or can we attribute it to goal keeper Peter Rufai who couldn't keep the two goals. My friend, that match, in my view, was no wear anything being compromised. Westerhof's game plan collapsed the moment, was it Amokachi or Amuneke, was injured and substituted. And that wasn't a coincidence, the Italians actually served us our dose, of taking dangerous players out of the game, usually and clinically done by Ben Iroha who plays 3, left side of the defence. So, in my view, that match was not sold and the players did their best. As a matter of fact, it was one moment of lost of concentration. Westerhof had instructed them to be kicking the ball high into the Italians half of the field. But our boys (or were they men) were catching fún. Okocha was dribbling everybody like say na him bring them come field. At the end, see where we were. 1 Like |

When I tell people that America is a very poor country they won't believe me. We don't que up like this in Ontario Canada to receive handout of food item. We get money deposited into our account, Canadian Emergency Response Bailout-CERB, Employment Insurance - EI, through direct deposit, 2k per month, and you go buy whatever you want. In addition, the Canadian Child Benefit - was increased by 300CAD per child, while GST-General Sales Tax was increased by 600CAD for couples and 400CAD for singles. You see what I'm saying. Food banks no even see person come collect food. They've been advertising for people to come forward. There's also Association of Nigerians in Mississauga. They too have been calling on Nigerians to reach out to them if they need assistance. I told my wife we don't need it. Let those that actually need it go for it.
