My wife received a mail from IRCC stating ' additional medical examinations required ' and after caling IOM she was informed to come in for sputum test after the lockdown is over.
She has been worried and i am just wondering if it might affect our application because i hear the result takes about 8 weeks?
Please has anybody in the house experienced a similar case and what was the outcome or experience?

You don't have anything to fear. My friend once had a similar experience. Once the test is done and the result is out, IOM will upload and that'll be it. There's no issue at all, and please believe me when I say there's no issue to fear. Just go there and do the needful, that's all

. INCREASED NUMBER OF IMMIGRANTS UNDER EXPRESS ENTRY

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, The Honourable Marco E.L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), tabled the 2020 2022 Immigration Levels Plan in the Canadian House of Commons. Canada plans on welcoming 341,000 new permanent residents in 2020, 351,000 in 2021, and 361,000 in 2022 while reducing Application processing times and improving service delivery and client services at IRCC.

Of those who will become permanent residents of Canada over the next few years, in 2020, 88,500 to 100,000 immigrants will be Express Entry applicants; in 2021, 89,300 to 100,000 immigrants will be Express Entry applicants; and, in 2022, 88,800 to 100,600 immigrants will be Express Entry applicants. These numbers are even higher than those announced by Minister Mendicino's predecessor in October 2018 when projecting Immigration levels for the same three year period.

II. HOW DOES COVID-19 AFFECT IMMIGRATION PROCESSING?

IRCC Processing Will Continue Despite COVID-19

On Sunday, March 15, 2020, IRCC also released new instructions for those affected by COVID-19. Like other countries, Canada is working diligently to halt the spread of the virus; however, IRCC is adopting new policies and procedures to minimize any disruption to Immigration processing and to help applicants who are affected in any way by COVID-19. Among the steps being taken by IRCC are:

All Applications currently in progress at IRCC offices both in Canada and abroad will continue to be processed.

If an Express Entry applicant has received an Invitation to Apply and is missing documents to complete his/her Application for Permanent Residence because of disruptions related to COVID-19, the Application can still be submitted along with a letter, explaining why the documents are missing. IRCC will hold the Application until further notice.

Once an Application for Permanent Residence has been filed, it will not be refused if an applicant is unable to comply with subsequent procedural steps/instructions because of COVID-19.

IRCC may continue to request any additional documents necessary for processing Immigration Applications. When additional documentation is required, however, Immigration officers will send a request letter allowing the applicant 90 days If a previous request for additional documents was sent, but the applicant could not meet the deadline, applicants will be given an additional 90 days to respond.

Applicants will have 90 days rather than 30 days to provide biometrics.

Those who hold confirmation of permanent residence, and permanent residence visas may be eligible for an extended deadline, as long as they inform IRCC of their situation via IRCC's web form.

III. WHAT DO THESE CHANGES MEAN FOR YOU?

Given the information, above, now would be an excellent time for you to enter the Express Entry Pool of Candidates (if you have not already done so) with Abrams & Krochak's assistance, so that you can be one of the first applicants to benefit from possible lower CRS drawing scores and an increased number of Express Entry candidates invited to apply for Permanent Residence in Canada.

IV. HOW IS COVID-19 AFFECTING THE CANADIAN ECONOMY?

The following excerpts are taken from an article that appeared in the April 2, 2020 issue of the Toronto Star newspaper:

Canadian economists are cautiously optimistic about the country’s ability to make a quick recovery once the worst of the pandemic is over.

“It’s very likely to be a very significant rebound,” said Jean-François Perrault, senior vice-president and chief economist at Scotiabank. In fact, last week Scotia pegged the chances of resuming normal economic activity by August at 75 per cent. Assuming the virus can be sufficiently contained at some point this summer and businesses are able to reopen, it should not take long for the economy to rev up, Perrault said. With pent-up consumer demand and low interest rates, he said conditions should be ripe for a quick turnaround, likening it to flipping a switch. “Once we turn the corner there’s potential for quite strong growth.”

If this scenario occurs it would be what economists call a “V-shaped” recovery, in which a sharp, sudden downturn is quickly followed by an equally sharp correction.

“We’ve had a huge shock,” said Jack Carr, an economics professor at the University of Toronto. “It’s bad that it’s huge, but the good news is that it’s short-run and as soon as the shock ends there’s no reason why we can’t almost immediately go back to where we were.”

Carr believes the Canadian economy is poised to “snap back” once the virus is under control.

Carr believes the Canadian economy is poised to “snap back” once the virus is under control.

“Maybe, if we’re lucky, it will only hurt the economy for two or three months and that’s it.”

She said and I quote "the rate at which you are going this girl, 5 years from now you would have become a mother of 4 kids, all borne out of wedlock"

Today I have been able to prove her wrong, doing my masters program now whereas two of her daughters are university dropouts, as a result of unwanted pregnancy.

Hmmmm... How time flies, share yours.

My uncle's wife, some twenty something years ago, said I'll end up as an agbero (garage boy), but today I'm a parmanent resident of Canada, and I have monthly standing order with my bank for her monthly up keep grin

When I was in JSS 3, my uncle reffered me to see his son, who I'm older than, is now in SSS3. Today I holds a Masters degree and a certificate in epidemiology from Harvard University, School of Public Health. The son didn't go pass the SSS 3.

Please I need your input on some enquiries. My son is 2, my husband and I will likely work as soon as we arrive. Do you have an idea how much daycare or preschool will cost per month?

Well, I can tell you that if you're landing in Ontario, and living in places like the Peel, which comprises of Mississauga and Brampton, or the Halton Region, which comprises of Oakville, Milton and Burlington, you can apply for child care subsidy on condition that both of you are working and your income is below the threshold, or either is schooling while one is working.

I specifically mentioned these two regions because I'm an advocate that people shouldn't talk about Canada, they should only talk about their experiences in where they live or have lived. Stop generalizing. Canada is so big and we are not living in the same Province

Please can you enlighten me on how the grant is 40k and loan is 16k. When I used the OSAP calculator the grant was so little I did not bother. Please explain.

I think the prerogative is with the approving officer. Secondly, it also depends on the family income, number of people in the family and all that. I really don't know.

Hello, thanks for the information. Please I would like to know how soon after landing was the osap application made. Also was it easy to get.
Thanks

If can even apply, literally, from.the airport as soon s you land. grin

On a serious note I'll advise you settle down a little, like getting some basic things done, such as opening an account, having an apartment, phone number, health card and all that. But it doesn't really require much.

Also, say for instance, either of the partner, if you're two, is working, they'll need your partner's pay slip. And one very important thing is an evidence that you actually live in Ontario which your health card or lease agreement should be able to cover.

Let me know if there's any other information you need

Ontario, through osap, give 28k for each session of your course. My wife is getting twice that amount for the two years of her course at Sheridan College. 40k is grant and 16k is loan.

Since one is a PR, one can move around freely in Canada. No restrictions. But one would keep these two things in mind

1. There is no equivalent of OSAP in Calgary. I believe you'll have more loan than grant in Alberta, compared to Ontario where I hear they have more grant than loan.

2. Part of the reason for schooling is to build a network. Hence is advisable to school where you want to work, for easier plugging into the labor market.

Just my unverified opinion.

I don't think you can move "freely" like you put it if you came in through PnP - Provincial Normination, until after some times, three years for Manitoba, and as described in your application process. However, you can move freely, to any province of choice I suppose you mean, if you came in through the federal skilled workers scheme aka express entry.

Crime / Re: Herdsmen Kill Three Policemen In Delta by mbhs139(m): 8:50am On Feb 06, 2020
What I don't really understand is how every crime committed now, between 2019 and 2020, are by heardsmen. Before, it used to be BH.

When a bank was robbed in Kabba Bunu LG in Kogi State sometimes in 2011, in Rambo style, the press reported that it was BH who attacked the bank. The police later refuted that claim, saying it was an armed robbery incident. Similar cases like that.

I'm just astonished at the way and manner we heap the blame of every crime in Nigeria now on the Fulani herdsmen. Are we saying they have the prerogative of crime? Are we saying crime hasn't been occuring in the land before? Even clear cut cases of armed robbery or assassination are attributed to the Fulani herdsmen. It is well.

I wonder why it is convenient for people to just write what they dont know about. I live in quebec and thank God I am "struggling". I won't argue much but it is better to experience than to draw conclusions from the experience of a few people. Yes Nigerians are leaving Quebec in droves to Ontario or elsewhere because of the language barrier. I was the only English speaking guy where I was employed I took it with open arms and learnt my French on the go. Now I speak fluent french and now I have the whole of Canada right in my hands. Applied and Got another job with Air Canada. French speaking was the edge I had. I moved to Manitoba as that is where I am stationed. Depending on what you want, u can make ur decision. My kids also speak better French than me. I did not limit myself or my kids in a country where we plan to live for God knows how long. Please if because of the experience of few people u are drawing conclusions be careful. As a rule if I have not experienced anything I dont comment, you can't be living in Lagos and be saying the way El Rufai is ruling Kaduna is bad. You know nothing.

I've been of the opinion that people should stop talking "about Canada" but talk about their particular province or region where they live. Canada is bigger than the whole of West Africa if I'm right. You can't be living in Sabo-Yaba and be talking about Cameroon or Ivory Coast.

I've only lived in Mississauga and Milton since my arrival, and worked in Toronto, what gives me the authority or audacity to talk about even Oshawa in the same Ontario, not to talk or Quebec or Manitoba that is three hours away from where I am by flight.

I've always turned people down when they ask me to tell them about "Canada". I can't tell you about Canada. Canada is nine times bigger than Nigeria. I can only speak about my experience based on where I've lived, stay or work.

Phones / Re: MTN Now Charges 7.5% Vat On Every Call That Is Made by mbhs139(m): 8:11am On Feb 06, 2020
It is 13% In the abroad we all run to, and where we (rightfully) point our leaders to take a clue from.

We are charged minimum 19% on our income, and 13% flat rate on all commodities we purchase, even pop-corn. Isn't that multiple taxation?

But we don't complain, never! Especially if you're from a country like Nigeria, because:

1. We don't pay school fees for our kids, and even for before and after school day care, and our kids eat three square meals at the day care and drink class of milk everyday;

2. We don't pay to see a doctor for consultation, neither do we pay for treatment at the hospital. Just walk in with your health card, and you're treated free of charge. It is called "socialise health healthcare system". We are not like the Americans that pays for healthcare from their wallet, na na na grin

All these comes from the tax we pay...everybody contributes to the common purse, and it is judiciously used. Unlike where I come from, where it is looted by a few.
