i really have more important things to do (like watching Dora the Explorer with my little daughter) than listen to that man. Those who watched or are still watching, has he or did he say anything about cutting the huge cost of governance and those silly projects listed in the budget for Aso rock? |
pro01:what has who she sleeps with got to do with the matter at hand? If Deizani was not married and she made a pss at you and you found her attractive, would you refuse to date her because she works for GEJ? More importantly, do you have a proof of her sleeping with Amaechi or is it one of those beer parlour gists devoid of truth that gain momentum across the country |
@OP, because they are not 'area boy' pastors like Tunde Bakare. They are too refined for such. |
lastpage:when you find an answer to these salient questions, pls share. |
@Myne White, thanks to you i am going to look for a copy of that Tomorrow Died Yesterday by Chimeka Garricks. I hope i can find a copy at Koko Kalango's Rainbow bookshop. that is the only decent bookshop in the whole of PH. |
Myne White:you have a partial point there. However, i still think that you can tell a known story in a way that will rekindle memories and bring a smile even to readers who are familiar with the landscape. that is what these Nigerian writers fail to do well. I wish writers like Mai Nasara and Eugenia Abu would write fiction beyond children stories. they have the imagination and writing skill to attract a reader like me. I have given up on the likes of Toni Kan, Habilla and Sefi Atta. let me google the writes you mentioned above. |
SEFAGO:Ask them about Nigerian writers who have published in the last 10 years apart from Ms. Adichie. I mentioned the popular ones in my post above and they are simply put, not worth a second read. AjanleKoko:A few are. the likes of Zakes Mda who is a prof at Connecticut and Fred Khumalo who has done a couple of fellowships in North America besides his job as a newspaper editor in Jo'burg. |
all4naija:see my earlier post in page 1 of this thread. the issue is not economic,it is a moral question. A govt that spends 75 million extending 3 gates at the villa and spends 7 + 9 billion naira for the VP residence lacks the moral authority to discuss removal of fuel subsidy. besides if fuel subsidy is being looted, why not investigate and arrest the cabal stealing from it? until these are addressed, this fuel subsidy debate is ungodly and dead on arrival. |
AjanleKoko:Don't even go near there. I shudder to imagine what my life will be like without South African music. My immersion into South African music and by extension culture is one of the most fulfilling adventures of my brief life. richly rewarding. on an unrelated note, the way you dey bone my greetings no good o,Oga. even new year greetings, you no gree acknowledge. na so my sin bad reach? |
this same sermon was preached in 2011 yet we saddled ourselves with an unprecedented level of mediocrity. I see no reason to believe that 2015 will be any different,if we make it that far. We as a people chose this mess often referred to as fresh air. I have said it before and i say it again, this govt does not have the moral right to even consider removal of fuel subsidy. the cost of governanace and legislative looting rampant in govt is enough to sink any nation. If there is a cabal looting from fuel subsidy, go after it,address the cost of governance, then come talk about removal of fuel subsidy and some of us will even campaign for it. until that is done, all these spread sheets Okonjo Iweala and Sanusi are displaying on Power point slides are dead on arrival. |
PhysicsQED:Thanks for your recommendation. I am going to seek THE SAVAGE DETECTIVES this new year. Talking of African literature, Whale Caller by Zakes Mda seems the kind of thing you would enjoy. Although, Ways of Dying by same author is more of my kind of thing. |
how these guys sleep at night is a wonder i am yet to comprehend. do they have consciences? look at how swift Segun Adeniyi's rehabilitation took? He has now resumed with his sermon on the mount. you just wonder if these guys are human? |
There are some very good contemporary African writers. It depends on your taste. As good as Ben Okri is, i find his books tortuous. Same with 100 years of solitude. for all the hype, i have struggled to go past page 100 and i have attempted it twice. South African writers are doing very well compared to their Nigerian counterparts. there are several reasons but i find the quality of contemporary Nigerian writers lacking. For all the accolades he has worn, i have read two books of Helon Habilla and have been hugely disappointed. I read one of Seffi Atta and vowed never to repeat such a venture again. Same with Segun Afolabi. Chimamanda is good but not as good as the hype in my view. I have several books by South African and Kenyan writers and i have been hugely impressed by the quality of the works and remain a huge fan of theirs. |
A govt that is not interested in addressing the cost of governance that is crippling this country has no moral right to remove the subsidy that directly impacts in the lives of the poor masses. No amount of power point slides by Sanusi and Iweala can win the argument. If there is a cabal feeding fat on the subsidy, go after them. you spend millions and billions buying food in the presidency and stationery in Sambo's office and you try to justify increasing fuel price by over 100 percent? It is immoral and no amount of petro-economic lecture can justify it. As long as the masses see a 'come and chop' govt in action, the subsidy debate would always be lost by the govt. If they claim that fuel subsidy is what will crash the economy, let it be. the salaries of all the SSA, SA and PAs in Aso rock and the clowns in NASS will not crash the economy, abi? these liars have no conscience. |
* Without wishing to bang on about this, the midfield mismatch was a consequence of United's dealings in the transfer market over the summer. This deficiency in the middle wasn't because of United's admittedly lengthy injury list, as the pairing of Giggs and Carrick was one that you could easily imagine Ferguson picking even with a full-strength squad at his disposal. To repeat the point - in the summer, United needed at least one top-class specialist central midfielder before they required a promising centre-back or a winger they didn't really need. They didn't buy one, and they are suffering for it now. |
doctokwus:We are asking but no one is answering. they are not interested in answering. |
by the time that rail project is complete, say in 2013, the Orile road will be due for rehabilitation. infact, it is already due despite not being completed at present. Meanwhile, half of the road has been turned to a refuse dump. Eko o ni baje!! |
the same kind of tears that Diezani-Madueke wept at Benin-Ore Road? These clowns need to invent new tricks. |
Happy New Year Nigerians. Fresh Air is here. Enjoy!! |
Happy New Year, Anderson. |
support the guy's hustle. go to Jazzhole on Awolowo road, Ikoyi or try the Glendora outlet at MM2. |
dmainboss:next thing he is termed a role model and even Fashola's wife will attend his album launch. when i see these clowns sagging their pants and speaking silly accents, i knew it. |
dmainboss:you are blessed. |
Miss EZ:don't mind the senseless idiots!! |
AjanleKoko:Not much wrong in that. |
wish i could go through all 14 pages of this discussion. I am not interested in the debate as nothing said there will change the fundamental facts. As long as GEJ and Sambo spend billions on food and newspapers, it will be difficult to convince any sane Nigerian that fuel subsidy will collapse the economy. As long as the cost of governance and the size of the cabinet and added paraphernalia remain bloated, every sermon about the removal of fuel subsidy remains an exercise in futility. As long as the common man distrusts the govt and sees no evidence of service delivery, not even angels will convince the uninitiated. Much less, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her power point slides. I see no reason to trust this govt, neither for its actions in the past nor its 'business as usual' posturings in the present. If the billions that the presidency will spend on sweets, stationery will not crash the economy, then we can as well manage the subsidy. if it crashes the economy, all good. |
Big Meat:if he and his staff spend all day reading these newspapers and magazines, when do they get to do real work? |
Calamama:you think they are interested in tourists and by extension your ideas? this is just one of the several half baked ideas those who hang around the governors cook up to siphon public funds. wait until you hear how many hundreds of millions were budgeted for this carnival.those of you complaining abou tthe costume, your BP will rise when you hear how much the contract was worth. they should just do their carnival and not block road for other road users who have other things to do with teir time. |
While Sanusi spends 700million in expanding the CBN governor's residence. Ours is a lost cause. |
Sanusi’s ‘Mansion’ I know that the seat of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is one of the hottest in the land, but Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi may soon need a coolant. Recently, a message was being circulated about him in the social media that he bought and paid N1 billion for a property beside his official residence in Abuja “to use for a garden”. He had started pulling down the house, it was alleged, even though the tenants still had their rents running. I was touched by the plight of the luckless tenants and angered by Sanusi’s “greed” when I read the message. Alas, it turned out that the owner put his two houses for sale; former CBN governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, approved that the apex bank should buy and develop them as part of the official residence of the governor; and CBN paid N700 million for both. The former owner promised that one house would be vacant in September and the other in December. And, guess what, CBN was not pulling down any house or ejecting any tenant. This thing called social media needs reform! |
