mathskill: Just as the inconsequential assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife triggered World War 1, the crises in Rivers insignificant as it may seem when you contextualize it in the wider politics of Nigeria, may turn out to be consummate the whole of this country. The do or die attitude of the presidency is becoming alarming. The NGF crises they orchestrated hasn't been quenched and yet they are igniting another fire in Rivers.

1. If you light a fire in a forest you never know where, when or how it will end and when you live in glass house they say don't throw stones.

Another saying says

2. When you want to dig the hole of wickedness make it shallow cos you never know who will end up falling into it.

Well to before warned is to before armed.
trust me, it will not consume the whole country at all. Our capacity to forget and our ability to condone rubbish is often underestimated. What is happening in PH that has not happened before? Is it in Oyo or in Anambra or in Plateau or in nearby Bayelsa?

otokx: Someone told me that AMAECHI will be long gone latest October; looks like the whole thing is being orchestrated from somewhere.
Another person involved in the drama told me that the Rivers state crisis is like a book. that the events unfolding are just chapters that have long being written. That each chapter is carefully opened and played out meticulously. He claimed the book was written by Wike hence,it has only one ending.

it is one fight on different fronts.
The way it is now, i doubt he cares if he loses the fights. He comes across as a guy who really does not care for the outcome as long as he manages to bloody the noses of his adversaries and causes as much damage as possible.

Bensonite: Everyone thought it was going to work keeping Wike at Abuja that was why for the first time Rivers people never protested that governor and minister from same tribe. Wike was instrumental to Amaechi victory but was also a burden to him. He ensures that the governor sign cheques, etc even if He met him on the road- no protocols at all. Wike is a grass root mobilizer and evil at heart but Amaechi attitude contributed to all this wahala. With less talk and more good projects every rivers man would have willingly stood to fight for him .
Meanwhile, the anti- Amaechi group are already drinking and jubilating at todays drama as I write.
guy, bone that matter. how would every rivers man stand to fight for him? all that is needed is the support of abuja and enough money to buy over yourreps in the house. that is naija politics for you. i still think Amaechi should have found a middle ground of managing Wike. He is one of those guys you don't want against you and at the same time you need to keep at arm's length. Na sharing formula cause all these things.
After all BRF has managed to keep his Oga happy while carrying out his transformation agenda in Eko.
Amaechi needs to tone down his arrogance. It just did him harm and listen less to sycophants who can not bite as hard as Wike couldand still can.
Na Rivers people i just dey pity cos they are aboutto board a 'one chance' bus driven by Wike.

Tony Spike: At the bolded, this is a valid economic theory in a real society. I am uncertain the huge population in Lagos is contributing massively to revenue returns; I may be wrong though. A part of the massive population in Lagos work in the informal sector, which is largely unregulated and unchecked. While the rest of this population are dependent population, without any viable job. The truth is that Lagos is bearing the burden of about 5 Nigerian states, which quite weighty. Therefore, it is only logical to say that the rate of development will be much more slower. Many areas in Lagos, including this Ago-Okota area grew massively between 1999 and 2005, when it was even difficult for the government to provide/repair infrastructures at traditional areas like Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja e.t.c. Lagos grew faster than the government could handle. Depopulation will go a long way in spreading this burden that is on LASG...
kindly provide two feasible means of depopulation?

Bensonite: Rhino you are right. I just put a call to friend who works at the assembly complex. The anti-Amaechi group storm the place with thugs but some other assembly members defected to their side making them more than 5 law members( I will try to confirm exact number and names). From what I was told it was attempt to impeach the speaker before the governor stormed the arena to seize the mace. Ordinary the governor should not have done that...maybe he is only trying to save his group.
In all this further polarizes already sectionalized rivers politics and the ordinary man may suffer the set back!
If he seized the mace, then how was the impeachment effected? Next thing they will claim they had effected impeachment before the mace was seized.

ogb5: Amaechi sent Wike to Abuja to have some peace in PH, the guys heat was getting too much then, seems the strategy did not work
It was never going to work and Amaechi knew it. It would have been easier to manage wike from Ph than from Abuja but Amaechi was listening to sycophants who wanted to occupy the space Wike was vacating. Wike is a grassroots mobilizer and buldozer (you know what that means in lay terms). He would never want to be side lined from the sharing that goes on at home,no matter the sweet honey in UBE projects.

I knew this will descend into physical combat. The dram was not going to plan according to the script of the Abuja team. At some point they had to get frustrated and impatient and force the matter. We are dealing with thugs on both sides so this was expected.
I also expect GEJ to recognize the impeachment (whether real or imagined). Forget all that forming of gentleman, these clowns are all thugs at heart.
Next expect the EFCC and police treatment and all Amaechi supporters in the house will go into hiding and before you know it, 3 membersof the house will move and effect Amaechi's impeachment. Na today!!

If you think Amaechi is a rascal, wait for Nyesom Wike. Amaechi is no saint, i wish he was less arrogant but Wike is a one chance bus. Rivers people are in for it. All those following Wike to pay homage at Aso Rock are simply in it for their bellies. The truth is that no one is thinking of the masses. All these career politicians. SMH.
Politics › Re: Terrible State Of Ago-Okota Road In Lagos (Pics) by mbulela:
Reference: What are we talking about. Is the high population not as a result of industrialization and commercial activities from which the state government attracts huge allocations from the centre and generates huge incomes from taxes. If the population goes so will the revenue. Lagos has no natural resources other than its population. What is happening like the case with Nigeria in general is a paucity of ideas on how to exploit this resource. Those calling for population reduction are unknowingly making the state more dependent on federal funds. Can this be a good thing in the long run, I think not.
I don't think you can accuse Fashola of paucity of ideas. I think execution of the ideas might be the snag not forgetting the political implications of these unpopular ideas.

as for me am leaving ago palace once my rent expires...
very poignant view. The ACN fan boys and girls never want to see any evil nor hear any evil. In their eyes and ears It can't get better than this. If you dare raise objections they resort to insults.

Tony Spike: Bro, that court case was only successfully completed around September/October 2012 and not 2011. I've lived in Ago since 18 yrs and I happen to know one of the landlords involved in that Enoma case. Well, the truth about this road is that it was meant to be wider like the Ago-Amuwo road. Unfortunately, the cost of projected demolitions sky-rocketed and LASG has to reduce the road width. Even at that, certain trade-offs had to be made between Taiwo and Enoma B/stops. I think the heavy traffic on the road spurred LASG to split the constructiion of the busy Ago Junction-Mobile end into two. The second part of the work are the pictures the OP put up here. I'm not sure of the status at the moment, I must confess.

I personally think Ago is too congested at the moment and more people are still moving in. With the ongoing Oshodi-Apapa expressway construction and the recently commissioned Cele-Itire bridge, that road is more busier than ever. Ago-Okota was not initially built for the level of traffic it's experiencing now. I believe the way forward is that the inner roads should be completely tarred, this will help reduce the pressure on Ago-Okota road. My opinion though...
you have a point about inner roads. that might be a way out. the issue of over population is no longer an excuse as their is little that can be done about that. Honey will forever attract bees. The next move should be making the population pay for infrastructure they can see. I also don't buy this court case excuse because i have listed several road projects that are in sorry states of disrepair and some have been on going for over 5 years. I believe that Fashola is trying but i believe a lot more needs to be done. Lagosians really need to shine their eyes when choosing the next governor because if they get anyone less capable than BRF, the state will sink.

Those who keep seeing an ethnic slant to the Okota road issue have not been able to address the several bad roads that have been listed on this thread. Does BRF hate yorubas too? this thing is not ethnic abeg. Lagos needs special treatment in the allocation formula and the LG chairmen are often useless. Even to manage waste is an issue for them. talkless of tarring inner city roads. They are a major problem to governance in Lagos state.
Politics › Re: Terrible State Of Ago-Okota Road In Lagos (Pics) by mbulela: 9:37am On Jul 09, 2013
Tony Spike: You still don't get it. That road was not strategically built right from the 80's. As it is now, Ago-Okota Way should be a mini high-way, and not the small width design it has now. Most of the houses being demolished have their C of O's as far back as the early 80's. If only the government back in the early 80's had projected the crazy congestion that'll be encountered in the future, Fashola wouldn't need to demolish any structure today. Ago only opened up after FESTAC was built in 1977; guess what? FESTAC is experiencing the same decay too. Lagos wasn't built for the population she is now experiencing. Like Shymexx said, more people need to leave Lagos and I agree.

When I started living in Ago around 1995, it was a very quiet, decent and friendly area. Today, it is fast becoming a hell-hole with high population. The type of recent buildings at Ago now actually reminds of Upper Iweka area in Onitsha. So, strategic planning is the issue here...
you are not saying anything different from what i have been saying.
I was actually responding to a blogger who said the problem was due to houses built close to the road, hence i was asking who approved the houses in the first place.

specco: Because about 95% of the residents are Igbos. The govt doesn't give a hoot. Have you been to Mushin, Surulere, Ebute Metta, Yaba, Ijesha and other places where Yorubas live in large numbers? The difference is clear to any discerning mind. The neglect of OKota looks deliberate to me.
what exactly will the govt gain by neglecting Okota?
I am sure you will see a few more places that seem neglected by the government around lagos.

enemmo: Rubbish! Were you not aware that the Landlords sued Fashola for over two years and it was in 2011 that the case was settled. If I hear say Fashola neglected the area because of Ibos.Who dash them area. Abeggi,Next time when they are building Houses they will leave three metres offset.
the case was settled in 2011 and 2 years later such pics still exist?
Why do we hate the truth? That Fashola has failed the people in Ago-okota axis does not exclude the fact that he has done well in the state as a whole,it simply means that he can do better.
You guys are quick to trumpet the court case as an excuse,i guess you need to go find similar court cases as defense for the states of Isheri-Osun- Ikotun bridge, the Barrack-Tedi road and even the Ajao estate-Oke Afa link bridge. some of those roads/bridges have been under construction for over 5 years. Go and ask residents there and hear their sufferings.
A lot more can be done by BRF but that does not mean he is not trying. The fact that we are surrounded by mediocrity all around must not blind our eyes to the possibility of excellence. That eyesore at Ago Palace road is alien to excellence.
Politics › Re: Terrible State Of Ago-Okota Road In Lagos (Pics) by mbulela: 6:56pm On Jul 08, 2013
Boyoorisha: The road is under construction! Why didn't you acknowledge that work is ongoing to fix the road? You must have passed through the completed portion of the road if you came in through Ago junction
I appreciate that the road is under construction but how did any portion of a road in a city like Lagos deteriorate to such an extent? No part of any such major road should get to such a state. It is not like this happened suddenly. This road has been bad and getting worse for a while. Even the pace of the work is so damn slow.

I visited my friend that stays at ago palace way with my car and i wept bitterly for the condition in that area. My car was damaged

Are you a learner? That place has been a no go area for almost 18 months.

Fashola is trying a lot in Lagos but i guess with the amount of work required in Lagos, if not for political posturing Lagos should be designated a special case in terms of budgetary allocation. You go to a place like Ago and pop into Festac, then you begin to wonder if they are in the same state like Surulere and Ikoyi. The absence of government presence in the place especially as it concerns roads is worrying.

Gbawe: The very same reason you react senselessly and irrationally to the Tinubu name, to begin making baseless accusations, is why you called Igbokwe a liar to begin with.

Did Igbokwe speak on the personal Iyaloja ambition of Tinubu's daughter she is entitled to as an involved stakeholder? Of course he did not because he cannot !!!! He is not her spokesman. He is spokeman for the ACN and he commented to tell obstinate and unreasonable people like you that ACN/Tinubu is not involved in market affairs!!! You are the one who chose not to believe that !!!!

Furthermore, Igbokwe can't tell Tinubu's daughter what to do or what not to do in pursuit of her own personal ambition unrelated to his Party. Igbokwe can only tell you what his Party is involved in or not concerned with at all. Whether you believe him or not does not make him a liar.

In fact, every time you open your mouth to make baseless accusations, you are clearly disrespecting the many stakeholders who have told you that their business is an internal affair and that they, not Tinubu, chose the Iyaloja they wanted. If you cannot respect those stakeholders why would I expect or even want your respect? That is why I told you to shove such. You are too arrogant to see how disrespectful you are in relation to an issue you should just concede defeat over. You have your suspicion but stakeholders have come out to tell you your suspicion is wrong. They have told you they made their own choice willingly and freely. When do you then accept it is time to put down your baseball bats, machete et al and head on home instead of continuing your ALUU antics from thread to thread? Look below to see that it is your lack of refinement that now leaves you owing Igbokwe an apology for calling him a liar.

The man said the ACN is not involved with "installing" Tinubu's daughter as Iyaloja. He did not tell you that her fellow market stakeholders did not have the power, independence or right to do that if that is what they wanted. Your ALUU behaviour is just shameful. The only thing that would have justified you calling Igbokwe a liar is if you can prove you saw Igbokwe or any other ACN member actively concerning themselves with the affairs of the market folks. If you have a problem, take it to the the authorised individuals in the Market men/women board. Your continuous ranting over this business, and stalking others from thread to thread with such, is now embarrassing.

Gbawe: I genuinely believe the SW has gone past that stage. Regardless of what some think, Tinubu knows that Lagos is bigger than him.

http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/principalofficers.php?k=1534&ek=40
That he knows that Laogs is bigger than him is a matter of your personal opinion. There is no factto back that up. As a matter of fact, some people see trends to prove that he is growing bigger than the state and what he says goes, even in his party the ACN. What has Tinubu ever endorsed within the ACN that was refused on the altar of the majority in the name of democracy? The party seems to be a personal machinery for achieving his political and business interests. You all keep mouthing Obama's 'strong institutions and not strong men' mantra. Is this how our polity will develop strong democratic institutions? One where the Manor of Bordillion is the alpha and omega?

Gbawe: Let us stop this sentimental pursuit of an issue mainly driven by emotions and not much facts. You know damn well that you are lying against Igbokwe in so far as you cannot prove conclusively , with facts, that Tinubu or his Party interfered with the process that produced the new Iyaloja. All you have is conjecture.

Igbokwe said the ACN has other things to do , towards 2015, than be involved with who becomes Iyaloja. Can you show us the lie there? Did you see the members of the Party running around flying Iyaloja banners or is it the PDP and posters like you who made everything about Tinubu and the ACN? Is it not, viewed factually and without sentiments, you and others who continue to insist hollowly that the opposite of what Igbokwe said is true when you have no facts at all to back this assertion? Disappointingly, you don't seem to understand that the most effectively useful citizens do not work with suspicion and 'gut instinct' - however strong such is. They simply, in the end, defer to what can be proven by facts available.
What a weak defence. My respect for your views began to diminish the day you chose to weakly defend that nepotistic act of Asiwaju. So until we see members of the ACN running around with Iyaloja banners, Tinubu is not involved? Such simplistic explanation! Kindly educate us on what other qualifications the lady has to occupy the President General position she just inherited?
This is no different to the sycophantic Perm Sec position bestowed on an illiterate woman called Patience Jonathan. The lady in question is she even a market woman in the first place?

Archbishop Atilade of the Anglican Diocese and president of the Christian Welfare Initiative (CWI),
has described national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and

“Tinubu is fighting for all Nigerians and we need more people like him in this country”, Archbishop Atilades aid when he paid a condolence visit to the leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the death of his

Quoting from the Bible, he said, “The memory of the righteous is everlasting. She was a mobiliser per excellence, one who touched the lives of many people and played a pivotal role in what became the successful campaign of the primary
