Unacceptable as your write up may seem, I also hold the view that our leaders have done more harm to us than the British did.

Yaradua promised to declare an energy emergency, 1 full month into government no one knows the energy minister let alone having an energy policy. And people think we should be patient.

finally the list comes out it is filled with political jobbers from all geo-political zones, who says every new President will first pacify politicians for 4years before he starts doing the right thing.

At the rate we are going most Nigerians will loose a greater percentage of their productive life because we are adopting a policy of 4year on-the-job-training for every new President on an 8year tehure.

Bigb1 your game is up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nigeria is not going back to the days of NPN

We lost 20 years before we will not loose another. Those who plotted coup after OBJ gracefully handed power over to Shagari are at it again, they will not succeed this time because OBJ will spare his life to guard the Yaradua Government.
They want to foist their men on us so that Bussiness as Usual continues.

El-Rufai is gone, they want Ribadu gone, soon it will be Akunyili, Soludo. It wont work.

IBB will be relegated to the back sit soon and those calling for Ribadu's sack will bury their head in Shame, I see Babagana Kingibe going before Ribadu.

We can not be taken 40years behind.
PoliticsRe: Yar’adua: 2011 Polls Will Be Credible by McKren(m): 4:55pm On Jul 04, 2007
Let us wait and see

If you don't take time Babagana Kingibe will leave office before Ribadu, Nigeria is a Presidential system of Government. We don't do Prime Minister so Kingibe should stop acting like one.

I tell you what OBJ is back, He is not going to make the same mistake he made as a young army general when he handed over power to Shagari and went to sleep and the likes of IBB plotted coup with Buhari and Nigeria wasted 20years as a result.

OBJ is back to guard the Yaradua government because Yaradua must not make the same mistakes Shagari made.

[Ex-governors behind plan to remove Ribadu
By Tony Amokeodo
Published: Wednesday, 4 Jul 2007
INDICATIONS emerged on Tuesday that the alleged pressure that was mounted on President Umaru Yar ‘Adua to remove the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, was being spearheaded by some of the former governors.

A source close to our correspondent confirmed that a retired military leader was also using his clout with the ex-governors to pressurise Yar‘ Adua to drop the EFCC boss.

The leader and his caucus group were said to have cautioned the President about the idea of keeping Ribadu, saying that he was a product of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who should be shown the way out in the new dispensation.

He said, ”The hues and cries over the purported removal of Ribadu are based on rumour. The EFCC boss was in Lagos on Monday and he later left for Ota to see the former President. But he has a right to visit the former President.

”He only left Lagos this Tuesday morning for Abuja. “So there is nothing unusual for the EFCC boss‘s visit to Lagos, which is a normal routine.

”Of course, the group and their leaders are not comfortable with the antecedents of Ribadu. Don‘t forget that some of the ex-governors have been penciled down for ministerial posts.

”But when some of the former governors learnt that they might not be considered for the plum jobs, as Ribadu had moved against them and even forwarded dossiers on them to the President, they were incensed and quickly mobilised their godfathers against him”

”You will also recall that Ribadu had invited experts to verify some of the projects that some of the ex-governors claimed to have executed in their states.

But I can authoritatively tell you that the President has asked Ribadu to continue with his job.”

Commenting on the development, President of the West African Bar Association, Mr. Femi Falana, said that it was too late to remove Ribadu, saying that the EFCC boss had ignited concerted efforts in the war against corruption.

He added that Ribadu‘s efforts had paid off, adding that certain people in some states were now agitating for the prosecution of their former governors who were allegedly involved in corrupt practices.

If he honestly thinks the one that brought him to power is not credible he should kindly resign

This idea of wasting a whole month on reconcilation or government of National Unity is a waste of time and space.

Comments attributed to Yaradua makes his continues stay as President untennable.

He did not resurect from nothing, he had no economic views nor does he have one now. He is only on the job for what he could get and is only retaliating his wives failure at the polls coupled with other quarels he might have picked up with OBJ.

Bushfellow

No amount of rhetorics will wipe away the fact that IBB stole what belongs to us all to himself. He looted and his legacy for generations to come was poverty as the huge debt he left this nation in meant generations after him inherited poverty.

He is not the only one who was an ex-head of state, the likes of Gowon were. IBB needs to understand that he is bad news to this Nation and as long as he keeps on trying to determine our collective future by appointments and campaigning to remove those who mean well for this Nation people will also wish to see him brought to book.

He is not supposed to have a say in our lives, he is an ex-thief. simple.

People keep on talking about independence, they refuse to question why after Ken Nnamani pushed for an independent EFCC by legislating a law through the Senate that will make it impossible for the President to sack the EFCC boss, the House of Representative members refused to sign it into law.

People keep talking about independence, an independence that is built on nothing is simply youthful exauberance. As long as the President has the powers to sack the EFCC boss without consultaions or explanations to no one, the EFCC boss shall continue to remain answerable to the President.

IBB has no immuinity

Why not cash and carry him to jail.

Why must we glorify him after stealling and send other thieves to Jail

The man advising people to read Macavelli's books should also go and read about Geovani Falcone and how the Italian Mafia was destroyed.

The long and short of the story is a Mafia boss is powerful to the extent to which the Government forces are willing to bring them to book.

As far as am concerned bringing a retired treasury looter to book is no rocket science.

Please, do me a favor, go ahead and start the prosecution process.

We shall all see the repercussion.

The new administration will be distracted for the next 4 years, innocent will suffer/ die, economy will crumble into dust, corrupt lawyers and judges will get richer, politicians will also get richer, unity among Nigerians will dissolved like ice cube under the sun and at the end of the day IBB will remain free and smiling in his living room.

Please go ahead and see what happens
How many happened when Mohamed Babangida was put in custodyhuhhuh

There is just a lack of will, why did he not dare OBJ and contest last elections since he was invincible. He rather sort a political solution and realised that Yaradua was his brother after leading his whole family to pick PDP form.

As far as am concerned the man is only a coward who enjoys goodwill as a result of loyalty to his corrupt friends during his days in power. If IBB goes to jail today nobody will loose sleep over that.
PoliticsRe: Why On Earth Is Ibb Not In Jail by McKren(m): 5:05pm On Jul 03, 2007
Avoiding rat race should include avoiding the Prosecution of IBB, Ehindero, Fani Kayode, Governors, Drug Barons, Thieves, Niger-Delta Militants.

Otherwise you will be speaking against your own gospel of Unselectivity.

Tell me why an Armed Robber should be prosecuted when IBB is walking free when it is even possible that if IBB did not steal what belongs to us all, the armed robber would not have gone to rob.

Am against Ethnic Sentiments, but they are some things you can not defend Diplomatically especially if it is glaring lest you be termed a liar
How about the good old "No comment" when you don't know what to say.

Am not supporting the Ambassador all i am saying is that if you make a statement like that you should have facts and figures of the number of people arrested and prosecuted for crimes and what percentage of them belong to what group
I don't agree with that, even if he wants to admit he could as well say "Nigeria, like every other country of the world have criminals"
There is no point going abroad to tell the world about our tribal differences, if he thinks he is too honest and can not do his job why not resign.
PoliticsRe: FG Might Remove Ribadu As EFCC Boss? by McKren(m): 11:05am On Jul 03, 2007
BigB1 will have a field day with this one

Sacking Ribadu might be one of the conditions given to Yaradua by Atiku to withdraw his case.

Yaradua should watch otherwise he will spend his whole tenure pacifying opposition.

As for Ribadu, he should hold his head up high because no one has done the job better than he did it.

Okonjo-Iweala eulogised him while giving the talk "To help Africa? Do bussiness there", Even Orji Kalu could not defend saying something bad about Ribadu when he was on Hardtalk in the run up to last election. Wole Soyinkas, the Ganis think EFCC under Ribadu was OBJ's greatest achievement.

Abubakar Tsav while campaigning against Ribadu for IG thinks he is a great Cop based on his achievement.

But people will come here, in their desperate attempt to rubbish Ribadu they start quoting Asari Dokubo, and backyard Journalists paid N10,000 to write a Newspaper report in a particular manner.

I wish Yaradua luck, I heard they have deployed people to scrutinize the act setting up the EFCC so as to in retrospect look for a nailing offence against Ribadu.

dblock:
The declaration of assets should be made Mandatory. The Annual income of the Politicians should be monitored by an Independent Organization. The Organization should be an affiliation of World Bank.

If this is realized, then corruption will be alleviated drastically.

Governors and presidents, must realize that they aren't coming to office, to live Lavish and Lucrative Lifestyles, but to be Servant Leaders, that can guide the Nation were it should be.
My brother the most prolific form of looting for our politicians and public officers is by the use of surrogates or fronts.

While it is important to mandate Governors to declare their assets before they assume any office, I think more time should be spent scrutinizing how much revenue (Fedral and state generated) a State attracts and how they are spent.

PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Declares His Assets by McKren(m): 1:18pm On Jun 29, 2007
Well I have been unable to trace the source in the leadership archive where I once read it.

But am sure I read it when an ANPP chieftain in Katsina stated how much he declared in 1999 and accused him of awarding state contracts to family owned bussinesses in the run up to the elections.

However it looks like I misplaced the figure, it may not be 150million but approximately 500million. If the latter is the case then may be am not being fair to him. As his latest figure of 900million will mean he made 400million in 8years as Governor of Katsina (average of 50million annually).

But then people must realise that the act of asset declaration should not be used as a means of political spin nor should the asset declaration form be percieved as certificate of good character. It should rather be a reference or benchmark for which we will in future access our leaders. So people should be more concerned scrutinizing the details rather than eulogising the act.

However because he made history as the first President or Head of State to have done that, and not giving into the senseless spin that "Asset declaration must not be made public" (God knows what the word declaration means as Femi Falana will have it).

So on this note I think the act is commendable.
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Declares His Assets by McKren(m): 11:10am On Jun 29, 2007
@magneto

@mckren- please keep your cynicism to yourself!
My brother this is not about being cynical, this is about knowing the very essence of what we do.

People declare assets so that they can be scrutinized not so that they can be eulogised.

He declared about 150million in 1999, now he has declared about 850 - 950million. Is it not suffice to ask Mr. Clean to do some explanations on that differencehuh?? That will at least keep him on his toes. Otherwise he will by 2011 elections declare 10trillion naira and we will once again eulogise him since it is all about declaring assets.

Why should they cmment when there are other important national issues to be looked into ehn? ASUU have been on strike for 3 months, niger delta problem is lingering, etc. And you want them to waste time on a criminal. If the case is in court, let it remain with the judiciary and let the legislators do their work which is : TO MAKE LAWS!
The issue of Niger-Delta is youth restiveness just like what Uwazurike engaged in. If Uwazurike is a criminal who does not need to be discussed then those of Niger-Delta is as good as that.

However, those concerned about Uwazurike's release should once again apply for his bail through the courts after they have lobbied the President just like Asari's case was done.
