and how has the way it is done here made the country progress? How has it made Nigeria a good place for business? How has it made investors come to Nigeria. 2023 alone, do you know how many global brands have left Nigeria?

Young people complain everytime but support anti-business behaviour and yet blame the government for everything. Steve Varsano is an higlhly respected global business leader when it comes to Business Jets. If someone like that correct you, you take it and learn from it. Just look at the comments on nairaland and you will see the reason Nigeria is in trouble. It has youths incapable of reason.

From Toronto to Thunder Bay is 20hrs drive, in the same Ontario province.
pansophist:
Instead of being an undocumented immigrant in Canada, please do that in the US.

The US has lots of warm states. The US won the geographical jackpot of the North American continent.

Also, after these migrants suddenly become legal, they will face the high cost of living, extreme cold, and isolated lifestyle, with a painful long commute, since Canada is so freaking huge. The largest country in the world after Russia.

Anytime I fly to The Netherlands and enter the Netherlands airspace, it is not more than 20 minutes before the plane will land, since the country is small.

But Canada, damn. It takes roughly two hours to fly into Canada from Europe (Iceland), but you will spend an additional four to five hours flying inside Canada, just to get to your province.

Canada is too forking huge, you just can't comprehend it. Even their so-called big cities have lots of long driving in it. You will lose your mind there if you are not a natural introvert.

And if you now compare Canada to Russia, then Canada seems like a dwarf. Russia is a continent. Then you will know Nigeria is small and overpopulated.

The person who made that video is from my group. We discussed it prior. He didn't intend for the video to go viral but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) the Govt has responded with $7m to shelter them. We went to protest 3 months ago when some were living in the streets. We begged that it might get worse when it gets cold. Organizations responded and they were moved to churches. Now, a lot more people came. Mind you not all of them are asylum seekers. Some came with that audacious visit visa to work visa mindset and are now stranded. The country is struggling. Interest rates moved from 2% in 2021 to 6% today. Many people cant even afford their mortgage anymore.

t2luv1:
I stopped coming to Nigeria exactly because of guns not being legal to carry. I had my first gun permit when I was living in Chicago. Bought my first firearm few months after that. I have lived in so many states and I have always had guns registered in my name. Now that I live in Florida, I used to have 5 guns registered but I sold my AR15 a few months ago I don't think I need an assault weapon in my collection. I just can't imagine leaving my house without a gun in my car it is part of me. That man who shot the guy if he has a good lawyer can plead to 2nd-degree manslaughter. I think in New York State carries 12 yrs but out of parole in 6yrs. Definitely not 1st degree since it does not appear to be premeditated, the noise made him angry, because the noise was violating his 14th Amendment rights by being heard in his apartment In Nigeria law no difference between manslaughter and premeditation. To most Nigerians, killing is the bottom line. I left Nigeria when I was very young under 19 years of age. Over 40 years ago.

Good day great people.

Thanks for the previous responses. That has helped in many ways. Ottawa is among my shortlisted desired locations.

Ottawa actually comes first in most indices that I considered as per information garnered from here. However,I am shocked to see that airfare to Ottawa from Lagos is almost double the airfare to Toronto from Lagos.

My questions;

✓Please what is the best way to save cost on airfares.

✓Is it advisable and cheaper I fly to Toronto and take another flight or even a BUS to Ottawa??

✓Is it better to fly from Lagos to Montreal and get another flight or even a BUS to Ottawa?

@everyone . Thanks so much

How the hell did this happen, cos I can't wrap my head around it. How would you be collecting money from several people and still say you are not involved? Did the countries in question tell you they do not know that there are false claims? Do you know that they have procedures in place for determining bogus claims? Abeg park well. There are other problems to talk about. No let other people stories dey bother you. Who are you to determine if a person's claim is fake?

essentialone:
The US and Canada are often sympathetic to asylum applicants claiming to be fleeing their home countries due to sexual orientations. Hence, Nigerians, who claim to be gay, lie and present fake documentation to US authorities, to create a false impression that they fled Nigeria, to avoid “public execution” because of their sexual orientation.

LETTER TO USA EMBASSY, TO SEEK FOR ASSYLUM (FAKE LETTER)

“I am gay, and I fled Nigeria, to avoid “public execution”, because of my sexual orientation. I was caught having sex with my boyfriend in a hotel. A waiter who wanted to serve me breakfast in my hotel room, had opened the door without knocking, and caught me having sex with a man. The waiter screamed and called hotel security, which detained us, and called a local ‘community security’ group, to report the incident. The security group tied me and my boyfriend, by our hands and legs, threatened to kill us for committing an ‘abomination,’ and took us away. For the next 6 hours, the group beat us with sticks, and metal rods, spit on us, threw sand in our eyes, and yelled anti-gay slurs. The beating caused me to bleed, and eventually scar. I was taken to a detention centre, from which I escaped. I then travelled to a distant town, where I was treated for my injuries at a hospital, with the help of a stranger. After recovering, I contacted my mother, who told me that the Nigerian police, had come looking for me at my home. She also told me that the leaders of my village had asked her to turn me in, because I had committed an abomination, and should be put to death. My mother met me at a bus stop the next day, gave me clothes and money, and told me to flee. I then got visa and travelled to the United States. Based on the Convention Against Torture, which the USA is a signatory to, my life would be at risk, if I am sent back to Nigeria, so I am applying for and requesting that you grant me permanent asylum in the United States of America.”

Below is a transcript of the notice for Public Execution of me, that was written by the “Council of Traditional Rulers” of my local community, back there in Nigeria, and which was sent to my mother and other family:

“In accordance to our traditional code of conduct, your son has committed an offence under Section 2, Paragraph C, which states that: Any citizen of this community, found practising homosexuality, bisexual, trans-gender, or any other related sexual act, must be subjected to public execution. Your son was caught practising this act, and apprehended, detained for public execution, but he escaped. Henceforth, his mother, and five other members of his family, have immediately been banished, and ordered to leave the community, until your son surrenders himself, for ‘public execution’.”

Signed,

Council of Traditional Rulers

Bruv, all shelters are full. Social services are stretched out. When you tell people that if you do not have loads of money don't go near Toronto they will think it's a joke.

Hope you are following the refugee stories? I was at the forefront of people who fought for better conditions for them. Its turf out there!

How did he ever end up in such situation? He has no proof of funds? I wish I could help, but I'm not in Toronto at the moment. If he's unable to find someone, I suggest he goes to the nearest Canada branch of his church from Nigeria, e.g. celestial, redeemed, etc, if he's a Christian. That may help. Otherwise, he can go to YMCA's closest branch or salvation army. He may also find help there if he explains himself, though they are also likely to ask about his visa status and proof of funds, etc. If they can't help him directly, they'll surely provide needed assistance in finding the right shelter to at least get him started. There are also a few city shelters out there for temporary stay. He can google to get their addresses and go to the nearest one.

What i faced today at the border points of entry, was a tough one. The officer asked me alot of questions, from my return ticket to what i do in Nigeria and how much i earn. I regretted ever going. at the end of the whole question he asked me to go apply online.

My only grace is that my return ticket date is still valid because I really don’t know what would have happened.

As God will have it, i got an update on my PR application today after 3months of silence.

oh boy if this is true, na suffer people dey suffer for Canada.
Tinyemeka:
Yeah, I understand your viewpoint, and believe me, that is one thoughtful consideration I've decided to reserve for the future. I look forward to retiring and spending my grey years in Nigeria, which is why we're gradually building nest eggs here and there, but the more I get used to the modest way of life here as contrasted with the loud/aggressive way of life at home, I do get doubts about whether I can really live in Nigeria when I grow old.

When I mentioned my wife's case I only listed that as one of some examples of the drastic change in circumstances that has occurred in our lives since we moved to the UK.

I do beg your pardon if I come off as sounding like a brag which honestly is not my intention but rather an attempt to convey to you the peace of mind that we feel since we moved vis a viz the constant assurance of power supply, clean water supply (we don't even put water in the fridge but drink cold water directly from the kitchen tap at home. It blew my mind that such level of water cleanliness could be maintained all the way from the water purification plants, through the mains and to all the homes). With regards to home security, fences are mostly about 4 feet tall, with shrubbery for privacy. I've never locked our gate before and so many times we've forgotten to lock our front door and go to bed at night, without any fear of a break-in. Most of the people I interact with are always courteous, are not loud and people tend to follow rules for the most part in their daily activities. It is not all rosy though, because there are some inefficiencies you may encounter but it is definitely not something you can compare to what you'd experience in Nigeria.

Prior to travelling I'd always considered the US or Canada, because of the stories we used to hear about the UK and it's notorious taxes. Well, we came in and by God's grace we've both been working, earning, paying our bills and saving enough to send home.

If I could drop some pieces of advice about relocating to the UK, avoid London if your combined household income is going to be less than £90,000 per annum. The city is designed to only be affordable to live in by the wealthy. It is also severely overpopulated which has led to increasing gang-related activity and crime rates.

I will advise that if you ever see the opportunity to come to the UK from Nigeria, grab it with all four limbs. If it's through a work visa route, that's all the more icing on the cake. Coming via the study route with a large family at once, is definitely going to create difficult circumstances in trying to settle down.

P.S: To others who say it is not possible to save additional N12.5m within a year:

NHS Band 5 Nurse salary per month after tax: £1,760 - £1,960 for working 3 days a week.
After picking agency shifts elsewhere:
£340 per day or £3,060 per month after tax (2 nights a week, 9 shifts a month)

God so kind, a couple can earn as much as £7,500 a month after tax, be modest and keep their monthly expenses under £2,000.

You really do not have to live in London to claim that you're residing in the UK. It will just drain your lifeblood and make you forget your reason for leaving Nigeria in the first place.

Cheers.

I have warned many people here my brothers and sisters I live in canada. Canada is very tough and not like what people outside thought . Do not come in here with visitor visa with intention of converting to work. It is not easy. Even for legal students to get PR is a long process after their PGWP they still need to write ielts and get high points to be eligible.

For a visitor be ready to cough out between 20k to 28k cad cad above for LMIa jobs or spend the same on study by applying to school. It’s not easy here , to get a job as a PR holder is very tough , many students can’t find a job so tell me what you are coming here to do with your visitor visa. Everything is expensive here especially in Toronto where I am . You should get your finance right and priorities before coming here or else you will be disappointed.
