I think we should reciprocate to the chinese living here too. That way, if the chinese government become aware of their plight, they will stop meting out such treatment to Nigerians living over there. You need to see chinese people here. Most of them smell, live in crowded houses etc.

But really, i do not know why Nigerians will choose to live in china. Japan is even better.

@poster. Thats fine but i do not think you should tell the embassy that you could not locate the venue. Instead, since you have been to Germay, you would be familiar with some areas. So just find out about the conference, learn everything you were supposed to learn there. That way, it would be as good as you attended the conference.

Reapply. If you use a new passport, you are going back to square one. If possible, do an affidavit that it is one and the same person. You cab even do a newspaper publication.

Lemoor, let me make this comment. We, Nigerians, have demeaned ourselves so bad, and the majority of people who go to apply for visas have no business at the embassy gates.\

Take this example

1. Someone said he attended University and does not know the name of his V.C

2. Some people apply to go for conferences, and during interviews, do not even know what they are going for.

3. A highly placed embassy staff once told me that some people come to apply for masters and cannot even fill simple application forms.

4. The worst, i have heard, was a student with admission to a school in belfast, upon getting to immigration at heathrow, was asked where he was going to live, he said dagenham, and he would be going to school from there daily.
Infact the immigration officer did not waste time in returning the guy back to Nigeria.

I was at gatwick one time, and immigration officer was asking me all sort of questions, and i cut him short by saying he should not bother with the questions, that i do not intend to immigrate illegally, and even if i had the chance to migrate legally, i wouldn't come and live in U.K, because the rent for a year for one room in U.K is what i pay for my duplex with enough parking space in Nigeria. He just laughed and stamped me in.

We ought to be ready before we approach foreigners, in any dealings at all.

Brownbonno, this is very good. I think we should be proactive in dealing with these foreign visa officers. Whenever they do well, they should be commended and wherever they goof, we should also petition higher authorities. Well done.

I think dressing well, looking clean, smart and being intelligent helps a lot in visa applications. Those visa guys watch out for naive, dull people. A guy was being battered with questions and was answering jargon.He first said he went to Unilag, later he said Ife, they asked who the VC of his School was, he couldn't.

I sent a mail after 9 days to ask for visa status and they said it had been granted after 4 days.

Guys, be bold and try not to be intimidated during visa interviews.

Londoncool, my wife and i both scored above the pass mark for HSMP, however, i think my wife is more qualified having worked for three months straight, and has an e- tax clearance. I have a masters degree but my work history has not been stable, cos i have changed employment like 4 times and also i have been abroad for more than a year. I am hesitating to file HSMP for my wife because she had previously applied for UK visit visa and denied. You are aware of the last denial which was very unjust and even the Immigration Judge made comments about how the ECO referred my aunty as my wife's cousin despite she staing otherwise.

Now, i feel if she applies for HSMP and is not given, any visit visas she applies for might be denied on the premise that she wants to go and live in U.K having applied for HSMP. I can explain better to you if i have your phone number.

Lucky Igbinedion wanted to speak with me on a flight, Lagos -London. However, i tried hard for them not to realise that it was Megastu of Nairaland otherwise they would have mobbed me.

Aydewale, I do not totally agree with you. It all depends on the individual. As for me, i hate the traffic in Lagos so much that i might not even mind to drive cab in Canada than to be going through this traffic everyday. Anyway, i have just gotten visas for myself and my wife to spend the christmas holidays abroad. I will come back sha.

Good Post. The traffic is getting really unbearable. In 2004 when i moved to Ajah,in order to beat the traffice, I left home at 6.30am everyday and got to ikoyi by 7.00am, in 2005 i left ajah by 6am and got to ikoyi 6.30am In 2007, i left ajah 5.30am and got to Ikoyi between 6.15aam and 6.30am. Now i have to leave by 5am, and i still meet traffic and get to ikoyi by 6.30am - 6.45am.

You can do the maths about coming back.

This is becoming unbearable. More cars are coming into lagos, no additional roads, the available roads are over stretched and full of pot holes.The people that planned lagos never imagined this population. We are in trouble in the next five years, if nothing is done.

1. Like the poster said, make other ports functional and all the traders and middle men will run there.

2. Develop Satellite towns with enough facilities. Someone would be leaving in Epe and do all his business there etc, just like Kent, Hull, Oxford etc in England.

3. RAIL.- Too much lip service has been paid to this. until we develop this, we go just dey suffer dey go.
