It's important to note from the outset that I regard the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as essentially the same country. I call them Anglo-Western nations.

I also think you underestimate the differences in levels of freedom of speech. There's at least hundreds...I think thousands.... of people in prison in Western Europe for saying the wrong thing. To me as an American, that's abominable.

I think you've been thinking about this so I'm sure you'd recognize the FACT that good research and surveys have shown that the most important precursor factors that contribute to high national HDI are the following:

1) Democracy,
2) ethnic, racial or cultural Homogeneity,
3) small population,
4) Free market economics.

I'm sure you're familiar with the high HDI of the Scandinavian nations, they're that way because they have most of those factors. Most people don't know this, but the economies of Scandinavian nations are more free market than that of the USA.

Most Black African countries have low HDI because they don't have ANY of those factors. Nigeria is a prime example.

The EU is a construct that purposefully wants to build a Super State with LESS of the factors that generate high HDI.

The EU is trying to build a Nigeria style nation in Europe. It's a direct contradiction of the Westphalian principles that made Europe a prosperous, safe and developed Continent. That is why the UK pulled out of the EU. The English are a wise people, they have a wide experience of what makes nations work because they've colonized many, many peoples, they've built many great nations. I was overjoyed when Brexit succeeded, it was a very slim vote. I was happy because England will LIKELY remain a civilized refuge for freedom and democracy well into the future....note I wrote ENGLAND, not necessarily the UK.

Go read the history of the Euro. When most other countries adopted the Euro, the UK refused. This was back in the 1970's. By 2008 most realized the Euro was not so good. It directly factored into the economic implosion of Greece, Ireland and Italy.....only Ireland has fully recovered today.

Go check some of the economic policies of the EU. I know for example that they sued Ireland for having low taxes. I don't know how the case has turned out.

Migration? They're insisting on taking large numbers of migrant people from nations with diametrically different cultures. I've randomly asked the question of many highly educated Nigerians, even some living in Europe....they don't know that ALL Europeans countries are over 80% White population, even 90%.

The EU is a disaster in the making. USA is heading in the same wrong direction too, by the way, thought there's still a little hope, just a glimmer of hope. I guess every good thing comes to an end, but I'll be long dead by the time the evil days arrive.

You're correct on the quality of life rankings. Very correct. However those measures aren't too relevant for everyday life. It's like saying Bill Gates is a very stupid man because he ranks lower than Jeff Bezos on the Forbes 400 List of billionaires. It's truly a meaningless difference.

The 2018 data is only 5 years old haba. I'm very sure more Western Eurpeans migrate to the USA today than vice versa even today, though Covid Pandemic might have scrambled the patterns though.

There's more to life than money. I think....no, I know the reason Eurpeans migrate to the USA. They come for FREEDOM. Many European countries don't even have freedom of speech. You would be shocked to know the number of people imprisoned in Western Europe for SAYING the wrong thing. Go ahead and look it up, I know I've come across it and was shocked

Then there's the economic freedom.

The actual main advantage that Europe has over the USA is ethnic homogeneity and smaller populations and land mass. They're very cozy, for want of a better word. Most countries there are over 90% White and in many cases over 80% one tribe. Because of that they feel comfortable paying high taxes and providing social amenities for their people.

Again despite all that far more Europeans migrate to the USA than vice versa. I think that's the ultimate measure of what people want. If you do the research, you will also find that most people from ANY COUNTRY who migrate or intend to migrate PREFER the USA as their final destination. That is definitely the case among Black Africans. The more accurate statement is that migrants want to live in ANGLO-WESTERN countries. In fact most 3rd World immigrants living in Europe have the UK as their ultimate destination.

I know MANY Nigerians, Ghanians, Senegalese and Cameroonians LIVING and resident in Italy, Germany and France who moved to the UK. In fact one of my 2nd Cousins born and raised in Italy moved to the UK when he finished University in Milan. There's a reason for that. The English tribe are a special people and the countries they've built....UK USA Australia Canada New Zealand South Africa... are a reflection of their ingenuity.

The UK exited the EU precisely because mainland Europe is a long term disaster in the making....it's a potential Nigeria as a matter of fact, but the results are gonna be a long time coming, probably in about 100 years before they realize their mistakes.

And in the final analysis, both North America and Western Europe have high living standards. Truly a distinction without a difference. I've traveled and stayed for months in a few European countries and I prefer the USA. To each their own.

In my own limited personal data set, I know at least 12 Africans who've migrated to the USA from UK, Italy, France and Germany.

I only know 3 Africans who left the USA. Two to Canada and one to UK. The 2 in Canada returned after about 5 years.

I have so many Africans here who went to try live in the UK and North America. The longest amongst them stayed 10 months - Ghanaian family.

All our Nigerian counterparts who have stayed more than 5 years in any of the countries I have mentioned prefer to remain there because quality of life is top-notch.

On several occasions here, the highest it takes an ambulance (and fire services) to arrive at a scene is 10 minutes. Their controlling na di.e. Superb system.

Kids of ages 5 to 12 go out in middle of night here to play soccer and other games unaccompanied and nothing happens to them.

Social insurance is very very cheap and highly effective.

Schools are free parents only pay €80 monthly feeding fee in government schools.

They have the best transportation systems in the world.

No wonder Vienna was cited as World’s Most Livable Citied in the last assessment. The city has won the award more than 3 times.
No US cities has come 10th in any of global living perspective indices. Only Vancouver, BC, has tried a bit.

Denmark is 99% not corrupt. Netherlands is a paradise on its own.
Go to Switzerland and see their system.

Even when it comes to postal services, no US or Canada government’s postal services come closer like that if their European counterparts.

This is just to give a scanty account of how European countries are living large.

I have met a lot of Americans who visited Germany and vowed never to return to the US and love their permanently again.

If Europe could have more English speakers, I bet you, nobody would want to migrate to America or Canada again.

In Austria, I have witnessed where government doctors came to treat patients more than 3 times. Not that they were first responders o (ambulances). I mean real doctors after ambulances had come to stabilize patients, they later on send doctors within 2 hours.

You can book appointment to see a doctor here online and the next day you are in doctor’s clinic or hospital.

Europe is better than the US and Canada, combined but European countries only do not have the kind of money the US and Canada have.
