Mujtahida: As I watched Messi lift the world cup, I mused to myself: where is Mikel?
Why do this guys give our players who are in the same bracket with them so much gap in a matter of years?
One took charge over the course of his life, while the other allowed himself to be fed crumbs just to belong, just to get play time. One took took advantage of his strengths, waxed strong in them, and became a legend, the other just wants to survive and was made to do things which were not to his exact strengths.
To summarise, one believes he has a choice, the other thinks he doesn't.
Marjoribanks: Have you watch the highlights of Chukweze or Moses Simon? Please do! I judge a player with real time match not highlights. Do you know why Ajax refused to sign him despite his dribbling abilities? Do you know why he is unpopular with Hertha Berlin fans? End product. Dribbling without assists and goals is crap! Who will he even bench in the SE first 11? Chuz, Lookman, Simon, Iwobi. or Moffi?
I will like you to post Moses Simon's clips and that of Chukwueze that i have not seen, let's compare passing skills and the ability to manage oneself in tight spaces.
I watch Ejuke's live matches.
Ejuke is the highest assist holder for Hertha Berlin. If you have proofs that he is not the highest assist holder for Hertha Berlin in the current league despite averaging 58 minutes per game and that he is not popular with the fans, I will like you to show the proofs..
All the statements you made above, you didn't even bother to fact check.
TheGoodJoe: Wow. Move clip. I agree with your belief that none of our forwards can pass like him. He also has a nice curl to his short and long passing. Ejuke is sound and it looks criminal that Simon Moses has gotten so much run of games and Ejuke not giving ample chances. Shows that there is something wrong with those who pick our squad players.
Marjoribanks: Ejuke can switch play with long balls? You must be related to him. The boy got his chance at AFCON and misused it. The only game he started he was the worst player on the field. He played against CAR and Cape Verde away what special stuffs did he offer? You will play a player that dribble unnecessary and lose balls in dangerous area in the middle? Thank God you are no where near the SE bench!
Just watch his first action in the following video. There are other cases. Please watch with an open mind.
I don't come out in the open to make conclusions without good proof. believe me it will do you good to know this.
TheSuperNerd: And that one game this midfielder started was the best midfield display of the Afcon by our team earlier this year but the same Nigerian fans deny it and tell you the lad is useless. Lol
Meli... the problem also extends to the fans. They don't want the truth.
The truth doesn't rock their ego. Could this be low self esteem. They obviously don't want to associate with someone who they believe is in the low places, not minding the beauty in such person.
TheGoodJoe: Watch how both sides are good at keeping the ball and moving it. With the growth of possession heavy game, you must build a team of players that are gifted in passing and keeping the ball.
Both sides have been a delight to watch. Amarabat remains my player of the tournament. [b]So gifted with the ball in tight spaces.
We can't expect to excel if we don't field exceptional players gifted with the ball and incredible with passing.
Those managing the team need to carry out a continuous comprehensive scouting if we intend to excel.
When it comes to managing oneself in and out of tight spaces, Chidera Ejuke, is the best i have seen in the entire crop of S.E players. The ability to handle oneself in tight spaces without losing the ball and good ball passing skills is vital to keeping a team's ball possession.
No S.E forward is better than Ejuke in terms of passing skills. Imagine that Aribo and Ndidi that are used as midfielders don't possess Ejuke's passing skills. I have seen Ejuke handle himself out of tight spaces and then switch the current play with a long ball.
In the last AFCON, Ejuke started only one game and was not in the match day squad for our last game against Tunisia. Something is definitely wrong somewhere
TheGoodJoe: Watch how both sides are good at keeping the ball and moving it. With the growth of possession heavy game, you must build a team of players that are gifted in passing and keeping the ball.
You saw that second goal by Croatia. That is what I pointed out on beating a compact setup defense.
Just as in the early 90s and 2000s where people who could cross accurately from a long range and pick up strikers in the pool of defenders were a toast, people gifted in picking up angles from long range with curling shots will become hot cake.
We went to the last AFCON with a midfielder that can cross the ball, and guess what: he started only one game. Something is definitely wrong somewhere
AndSunGorilla: Haha oga Major, make I correct Oracle small, you fit change the Kingdom to States and the prediction may have a chance, lol. Football here in the US for kids is capital intensive and stressful for the parents. As for me, am not ready to pay thousands of dollars just so my son will be playing football at a high level and I can't be driving everywhere or flying around because of football. One oyinbo once joked that, most US parents spend a lot of money on sports for their kids in an effort to at least get a college scholarship, according to him, the scholarship money is already in the money used to attempt to earn it for the child. Bottom line if God says na im way of cos but nna men, I no see dat kain talent inside d boy jare
Philosopher1979: What a player has to offer is more important than club form. For example if a secondary vschool has maths teachers but has a shortage of English teaches there is no need looking for maths teachers and we may have to lower the expectations for English teachers. We lack ball playing midfielders so we need to lower the standards for them on the other hand we have too many forwards and so the standards will be higher for that. We need midfield personnel that can basically pass, mark and control the midfield. Nwakali, ovie ejaria etc fit into this and so we need to lower our standards as we don't have any better. ABI the important thing is for them to do a god job for us
Another thing is that if we get that midfield right we can score goals against baby team in the world as we have good forwards. Our match against Sao Tome showed this
Some valid points you made, but it is important to note that we are not in any way lowering our standards if we place an invitation to Nwakali.
In my own assessment, and before we saw Iwobi's evolvement in midfield, Nwakali was easily the first name in our midfield, but many couldn't see it, and even now, I will pick him over Iwobi. It is now more debatable between Nwakali and Iwobi who towers above the other, but i will pick Nwakali.
I wasn't surprised when some guys were hyping the Ghanian midfield, while talking down on our midfield, preferring the Ghanian midfield to ours.
It is even more understandable when our midfield is compared to that of Morocco, but even at that we are still better in every aspect of the midfield game. These are no mere sayings, i have done my studies. You can do yours.
I wonder how any right thinking football analyst would want a player like nwakali to be in the super Eagles team. It’s either they are hungry mofos paid to hype him or they don’t mean well for Nigeria football.
What are some of your reasons for saying Nwakali shouldn't be invited.
A midfield dt can hold d ball and transit quickly to d forwards, bro ,we never get midfield. Aside a rejuvenated iwobi ,who else do we have in d midfield
A stagnant ndidi dt refuse to grow in his style of play
Who again? D BrentFord guy? Not yet proven club Brugge guy? Bro , we neva get midfield
Iwobi, Nwakali, Alhassan, Etebo, Onyedika etc. Do you want these guys to play for the likes of Real Madrid before deeming them good.
We have a good midfield. How many S.E games has seen Iwobi in midfield? How many games have seen a combination of Iwobi and Etebo in midfield. I am not even to discussing the other midfielders that i listed. At least we saw Mikel-Etebo combination and the synergy it produced, a synergy that benefited the likes of Victor Moses Our problems have always been selecting the wrong personnel and making very poor combinations of them.
fabyom: We wouldn't have scored because we lacked the personnel on the bench not because Addo is tactical. All our midfielders were out due to injuries. Shehu had to play DM when no one was available. Cape Verde had Rohr team on the back foot throughout the 2nd half while Ghana could not even pass the midfield against a team without midfielders. Otto did nothing. He was just lucky! Simple.
Yes, he was just lucky to have a coach he could outwit. That game was won purely on tactics.
Now know this: After the first game in Accra, and having my first look at Otto's tactics (Otto is not yet a genius in my reckoning, but he could grow to become one), I knew he has the brains enough to cause an upset. I predicted our loss, but was implicit about it. Even Otto himself made statements about hurting us in a way we can't recover or something similar.
I would have given you a thorough tactical breakdown, but today is Sunday, and i am about seeing a movie.
Marjoribanks: This guy no crawl come from his hole when I got the Ghana vs Uruguay's prediction right ooo. Human being. People like this guy has nothing meaningful to contribute except to criticize those trying their best to make this place bubble small. Small yansh dey shake. lol.
Do you know the number of people on this thread that Truidstar has gifted data to stream matches. That is massive contribution.
If Moses had scored that chance in Kumasi you'll probably be hearing how Eguavoen is a new Westerhof incarnate.
This is not true. I heavily criticised Eguavoen before his first match at the last AFCON, even while we had a winning streak, my criticisms for him did not cease.
Papi85: kudus is a number 10. used as a false 9 in ajax no mean say em be striker
I don't think you know the player we are talking about, you might identify him facially, but you don't know him. How come he is not played in that role, but played either in the left or right midfield, (there are good reasons for this).
What are some of the qualities you have noticed about Kudus that make him a number 10 in your reckoning.
TheSuperNerd: I will definitely pick Iwobi over Kudus as AM.
At CM, it depends on the personnel I pick in the other Midfield roles in a likely Midfield 3.
Truth is in the Super Eagles, I hope to see a Midfield 3 of Ndidi/Onyedika-Nwakali-Iwobi with Alhassan as my go-to man off the bench even ahead of Onyeka who would also be on the bench.
The Onyedika-Nwakali-Iwobi Midfield 3 has so much balance potentially and Alhassan can slot into the CDM or CM roles comfortably in place of Onyedika or Nwakali respectively.
TheSuperNerd: I said Africa Best XI. Amrabat made mine as CDM. Partey as CM/B2B and Ziyech as AM.
Note: Partey can play both CDM & B2B-CM roles comfortably.
'Was only responding to Meliforme's observation on Partey's influence in the middle for Ghana. Not necessarily addressing the Combined midfield XI of Ghana and Naija.
In your own assessment between Iwobi and Kudus who will you choose to play the AM.
It is true that Iwobi is more creative than Alhassan, in your assessment who will you choose between Alhassan and Iwobi for the CM role.
TheSuperNerd: There is a reason only Partey from the Ghanaian team makes my best Africa XI, 2022....
...as seen below.
But take nothing away from Kudus. He is an AM with a lot of drive and intelligence on the ball.
Kudus is just about the goals. Goalscoring as a midfielder is an advantage, but when emphasis is on stability and balance in midfield. Iwobi and Nwakali will always give Kudus bench roles in any department you can think of in midfield, be it AM, CM or DM.
Even in the attacking midfielder role, Aribo has more to give me than Kudus. I know this will come as a shocker to many reading this, but these are no mere sayings. I will still pick Iwobi and Nwakali ahead of Aribo anywhere in midfield.
Marjoribanks: We are missing the Partey type player in our midfield. Ndidi and Iwobi better than Samad and Kudus respectively. I think Onyedika or Nwakali should be tried in that role instead of Etebo/Aribo.
I will pick Iwobi ahead of Kudus in every midfield department, be it DM, CM or AM.
