Hi all. Just got this info and thought to share.
With your library card, you can have FREE access to a wide range of online courses from different sites, including LinkedIn Learning. There is also an amazing site, affiliated with libraries in Canada and I think US, (gale.com) that offers short courses in different fields, from accounting to computer to programming, project management, even medical field.

Just go to your local library website, search and click on Elibrary > Online Courses, and go through the content. You must log into each site with your library card number and password.

All the best to us!

I have been a silent observer on this thread for a while. I must commend the selfless efforts seen here.

@Salford, the bolded has been my prayer since the 1st time i had to go to the emergency two years ago when my wife was pregnant. After being triaged, we waited for close to 5 hours to see a doctor. I couldn't believe i was in the "emergency unit". We eventually lost the baby. It opened my eyes to the Healthcare system in Canada, precisely Calgary. It is a major challenge, the wait times, but since it is "free", most Canadians just live with it.
Wow. After reading this, I'm grateful to God again for all He does. I did have some bleeding while pregnant and I went to the emergency unit of the Foothills hospital in Calgary. I didn't have to wait even for 5 minutes before I was taken to the observation room.
Guess we all have different experiences. I pray that we all remain in constant good health in Jesus name. Amen.

I guess it depends on the drive test center. Please which one did u go to so I can direct my friend there. She just landed and has the same issue. She won't mind having her driver's license in her married name.
I used Shawnessy Registry in SW Calgary.

Good day all

Has any landed senior had their current Nigerian Licence in their married name, whilst their passport/copr was in the maiden name

Regards
My driver's license was issued in my married name because my naija license was in my married name. My passport/COPR bear my maiden name.

@peaceful. Strange how the reason the lady gave you is the same reason I was told my license has to be in my married name.

Thank you for the detailed response.

Did you buy your first car whilst holding your naija license? It is possible?
What's your experience with the dealership? Did the dealership ask for a Sask Driver license before concluding the car purchasing transaction with you?

Heard insurance cost is higher for the first time Sask Driver and also someone with an older year model used car? How true is this and what year model will you advice to go for with a decent budget of 4k to 5k?

Thanks for your time. Highly appreciated.

It will end in praise IJN!
Hi. Though I stay in Calgary, just thought I should chip in your car search inquiry. So we got our car off kijiji : 2004 Camry, excellent car with heated leather seats, 6 loader CD player, roomy, auto transmission, etc, for 3900 CAD. We just met with the guy at his place, transferred the money to his acct, we filled and both signed the transfer of ownership certificate, carried our car and left. Then we registered it, got plate number and insurance.

Just take ur time and do a thorough search on kijiji, u will Def get great deals.

Hi everyone. Biko I have a qwesion. We did our knowledge tests and passed, then submitted our licenses. Now we got a car off kijiji and before we can get a plate number and have the car registered, we need insurance. Been talking to a lot of third party insurance coys but they keep insisting on the fact that they need our Nigerian licenses, because what we have now is just the Class 7 (even though temporarily, still waiting to do road test for the Class 5).

Please how did you guys go about this? I'm in Calgary. Thanks a lot for your replies

It can be a little disheartening waiting for London to review files. Especially having stayed a full 3months at NA2 and heading on 5months post AOR.

HOWEVER reading stories like yours brings a smile to my face. I can only think of d days ahead. Of landing and house haunting and health service and a better life; Esp for our kids.

All the best sis...will definitely buzz you for tips when our time comes.
Wow. Not to worry dear, it'll happen sooner than later. I have a friend that started his end of 2015 (though PNP), so there are worse cases.
I'll definitely help out in any way I can. God's speed to you!

Hey congrats merrymum on your landing, please what did you use as proof of address for your health card registration?
The lady just asked for the SIN card and made a copy of it. She said that would be sufficient. But offices like where you get a driver's license might insist on utility bills as proof of address.

Hello everyone!
So we landed in Calgary 5 days ago. Flew KLM from Lagos to Amsterdam (6hr stopover), then from Amsterdam to Calgary. Flight from Lagos was OK, but I got to see another annoying side of how things work in Nigeria. The plane we used from Lagos to Nigeria was just there, entertainment screen was horrible, food was manageable. But the flight from Amsterdam was too different. Was almost as if we were in another airline: very nice, bigger better screens, much better food, plenty of snacks, drinks, even ice cream, nicer air hostesses. It is well with Naija o, accepting all sorts of trash airplanes into the country.

After we landed in Calgary, we went through immigration, which took like 2mins, then the guy directed us to pick our luggage and go to the landing section. The guy here was much nicer, welcomed us to Canada and collected our passports, landing card and COPR. Went through the forms, asked if we had any foodstuff. I answered dried vegetables, grounded seeds and some spices. Then he said that’s fine, just wanted to know if you had any meat or raw food. We signed COPRs, got our copies, some advice from the officer and we were good to go. Everything took like 10mins.

Our host was already waiting for us. Got to the house, ate and slept off like logs. Next morning, we went to Service Canada office for our SIN. Also got our health cards (temporary ones, waiting for the permanent ones). So far, we have gotten a family doctor, done some bloodwork, pretty much setting up our medical records. Did some apartment search and finally saw something that suited our budget and needs today. Hoping to move in next week.
That is it for now… All the best to us all!

Yes I landed with my Nigerian license. It was to expire this October while my husband's had already expired. Both were the frsc biometric licenses. We wrote the knowledge test and passed and then submitted our licenses to obtain the gdl exemption which took 3 weeks after which we took the advanced road test and obtained our class 5 licenses.
Ok great. Thanks a lot
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by merrymum: 10:54pm On Oct 03, 2017
@vcole. We'll be landing in Calgary in 2 weeks. Just to clarify on the driver's license, you went with your Naija DL, wrote the test, passed and was issued ur license?

@Czaratwork. Thanks a lot for sharing. All the best!
@Ajujuju2. My husband will work. It's just me staying home for a while. And I'm looking at getting some certifications too.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by merrymum: 9:44pm On Oct 01, 2017
@Ajujuju2. I think it won't be that stressful considering I'll not start working immediately. Hopefully we would have a system that works by the time I'm ready to work. I always console myself with the fact that a lot of women in Canada and US have been working and taking care of kids at the same time, and dem never die. So we shall all make it!

Another important part is having a hands-on spouse. My husband can do every every in the house, I cannot even make mouth with any kind of chore. If I talk too much, he will wash hand and cook one correct vegetable soup and I will just go and hide myself. Lol.

You needed at least one year to qualify at all and you had that.

With 2 years on your experience, would your CRS (+ spouse's contribution) have exceeded the CRS/FSW cut-off?
No it wouldn't have.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 2 by merrymum: 2:40pm On Sep 30, 2017
My work experience had to be 3 years for me to get max points. First NOC was in banking (1.5 yrs) then second was as an oil/gas field engineer (2.5 yrs). The koko is that whatever u use as PRIMARY NOC in ur application must exceed one year. Every other experience will count towards the 3 yrs u are targeting, even 6 months experience in a job.

I think if it is at a stretch, the idea of combination is defeated. Nobody combines to get more than three years for migration points. Hiscules' assertion of related NOCs looks like it.
Mine was at a stretch. From ... to 11 Feb in NOC 1 and then 11 Feb to ... in NOC 2.
A lot of people on the Canadavisa Forum have done it too

Hi elfmann, so see attached screen grab, after all I am learning and still learning from everyone here.
Hi. I used two different NOCS and I have my COPR. It is possible as long as it falls within A, B or 0. The two I used were in A and B.
