Nigeria has always been backward because of the division already existing among the masses arising from tribal sentiments.our politicians know how to deal with us by creating crisis to divert our attention while they loot the treasury.the other day i think beaf was proposing a development sub-section on NL but where did it end?,we prefer to discuss old issues that bring nothing to us but further tribal distrust and backwardness.the only thing that can make nigeria work is if those tribes canvassing for secession to join hands together to make nigeria work.i dont care if hausa or igbo or ijaw becomes the president but all i wanted is a nation where things work.until we begin to think this way and gather momentum of all the ethnics in nigeria, then we can think of wrestling these hungry politicians out of our democracy forever
The mere presence of you bigoted slowpoke makes Nigeria worse. Meaning: that Nigeria will remain backwards forever.

The only thing you have going for you in your life is being a victim from the civil war that ended 40 years ago. Otherwise you would not bring civil war into every thread. You started this thread about Soyinka, a great man, and yet you still introduce the Civil war into it. Grow up and stop bitching; are you a woman? Are you not a man?

Only losers talk about being victims all the time; it is pathetic.
Katsumoto, you are the quitessential yoruba bigoted slowpoke. I will keep on hammering this into your thick skull. . . . .
All you were able to mutter was that the genocide ended 40 yrs ago, that talking about it makes me a loser. What a shameless and brainless animal!! Even Soyinka must be ashamed that he came from a stock of murderers like you katsumoto. At this time when other civilized world are reviewing genocidal events of the past and prosecuting those behind it, you slowpoke is on the net calling the massacre of the Ndigbo a mere past event. You might also call Isrealites losers for moulding most of their policies based on the holocaust and also advocating for the prosecution of the masterminds.
However, who are actually the real losers? Are they not the pathetic people that abated the war and are now championing the protests against their brothers in crime. You cowards should suck it up and stop disturbing the peace of other Nigerians.

Did no one tell you that Soyinka spent 26 months in prison for the Biafran cause?

Someone of you are so blinded by tribalism and hate for other tribes that blood refuses to flow to your brains. I don't expect you to reply with anything sensible or articulate because you are obviously disadvantaged. I expect you will reply with your usual tribalistic vitriol. Ode jati jati

I dont know how old you are, but it is obvious from your previous posts that you are a bigoted dunce. Where and how did I insult Soyinka? I just stated the facts which your retarded brain can never be able to process. Then why should you Yoruba poeple turn around to be over heating the polity of the same Nigeria you guys supported. No wonder the state, Anambra, is in crisis. Where is the outrage? The election outcome in Anambra is an harbinger of what to expect in the upcoming national election. Rigging and hooliganism galore! I can't wait to see how madam re-branding is going to spin this one. As far as i can tell PDP controls the Police and INEC by proxy which, of course, will make things difficult for lazy opposition parties.

My guess, there can't be a credible election in Nigeria until we have Independent Police and INEC. As long as PDP nominates, via Mr. President , who get to be police IG and INEC chairman, credible election will remain elusive.
You guys should always try to choose the correct words.
What kind of CRISIS is Anambra state witnessing that is different from that going on in your state? Or is it because they are the only state having a guber election this year. As an Anambrarian, I have noticed that the campaigns have so far been good, the incumbent governor also enjoys a favourable rating from the populace, so what crises are you talking about? Anambrarians are only asking for a free and fair election which is a normal slogan in any part of the world.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/01/16/jonathan-accorded-presidential-protocols-at-armed-forces-remembrance-day/

By Kingsley OMONOBI, Abuja
Following Wednes-days Federal High Court judgment that Vice President Goodluck Jonathan can perform the functions of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, as a result of his prolonged absence due to sickness, the Vice President was yesterday at the 2010 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, accorded full presidential protocols as he was not only escorted to the tomb of the unknown soldier by mounted troops, but reviewed the military parade.

After reviewing the parade, the Vice President again kick-started the laying of the wreaths at the tomb while the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Paul Dike; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Abdurahman Bello Dambazau; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice admiral Ishaya Iko Ibrahim; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petirin and the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo, all saluted the Vice President as they usually do to the President, before laying their wreaths.

Others who also laid wreaths  included the Senate President, David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Demeji Bankole; Chief Justice of Nigeria, Katsina-Alu; Defence Minister, Gen. Godwin Abbe; FCT Minister, Adamu Aliero and minister of State, Defence, Abdurahman Adamu among others.

After the laying of wreath, the traditional 21 gun salute was fired by the Brigade of Guards soldiers on parade after which the Vice President released the ceremonial Pigeons from their cage to signify that peace continue to reign in our country.

Present at the ceremony which lasted just over one hour amidst tight security after the whole vicinity of the Eagle Square and the National Arcade grounds were cordoned off, were members of the diplomatic corps, ministers, former service Chiefs, and top government functionaries.

The activities of the day had kicked off with Christian and Moslem prayers by the Directors of Chaplaincy and Islamic Affairs of the three services.

The consensus prayers being that God will take this nation greater, continue to keep Nigeria as one and make all ethnic groups see each other firstly as Nigerian and secondly as brothers and sisters.

First of all, the Igbos are not being used and can never be used. The Igbo lawyers that went to court for an interpretation of the constitution are not fools neither are the Nzeribes of the world. They did what they believed in and such action shouldnt be portrayed as that of greedy and corrupt men. They have moulded their political views based on the experience thier people have had in Nigeria.
However, If you still stick with your above reply, I might as well portray Awolowo and his followers as greedy men and murderers. Afterall, his support for the food blockage to the east and the 20 pounds policy deserve it. I know you dont believe that, do you?

Well, you asked a very good question. . .The Biafra civil war events, the betrayals on the part of Biafran neighbours and all the nuances of the war have taught we the Igbos a lesson.
To be frank with you, the yorubas should never expect the Igbos to be in alliance with them in any political initiation, even some of the Niger deltans. As I said earlier, the killing of Ndigbo has produced at least 600,000 Authur Nzeribes within a sample of 1 million Igbos, these Authur Nzeribes are always ready to pay back Awolowo and his kinsmen accordingly. . . .

PoliticsYara'dua: Wole Soyinka Calls For Civil Disobedience. by metalgong5(op): 4:42am On Jan 16, 2010
As President Umaru Yar’Ardua’s prolonged absence from the country for health reasons stretches into a second month, Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka yesterday in Lagos urged Nigerians to prepare for a campaign of civil disobedience in order to force government officials and politicians in positions of authority to do the right thing.

Soyinka, in a chat with journalists in Lagos which focused on the leadership vacuum and uncertainty brought on by the president’s absence from the country, said with civil disobedience, “those in government would learn to respond to the yearnings of Nigerians.”

The laureate, who on Tuesday joined civil society groups to protest the refusal by Yar’Adua to transfer presidential powers to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, said the development had pushed Nigerians close to “explosive point.”
He therefore called for sustained mass rallies and civil disobedience by Nige-rians in order to force “Yar’Adua and the cabal ruling the country to do the right thing.”

Soyinka said: “Nigerians are close to explosive point because of the refusal by those in power to do the right thing. The situation has been worsened by the comatose state of the nation.

“Mass rallies and a campaign of civil disobedience should be sustained in order to bring the country’s leadership to its knees.
“The critical mass has been reached. Cracks will begin here and there and people will be constrained to push.
“We will see the manifestations in the actions of the citizens within and outside the country.”
He said politicians should be warned against saying that people who are clamouring for the transfer of power do not wish the president well.

“These politicians should be asked which Nigerian they have met that has prayed against the president’s recovery.
“They are only trying to distort the issue. It is sanctimonious, a cynical appr-oach. It is blasphemy; they are putting others in a false situation.

“The nation and the president are sick, both need to be healed, but at least the president is receiving treatment,” Soyinka stated.
He said those who do not want the president to recover are “members of the cabal that was secretly controlling affairs.
“They are all corrupt. Some of them elected and some of them unelected.

They want uncertainty to continue for as long as possible so as to be reinvented for the 2011 election. They are the ones who wish the president would never return.”
He said Yar’Adua’s absence had put governance on hold while nobody was saying anything about the Niger-Delta problem.
“The issue of the Niger-Delta has been placed on hold. Those brought out of the creeks on the basis of a process of rehabilitation are not being told anything.

“The president had set in motion a certain process to begin immediately after Ramadan. What happened to that process?”
The Nobel Laureate also queried the signed 2009 Supplementary Budget: “Lies are being exposed including forgery; did the president truly sign the 2009 Supplementary Budget?
“I think a commission should be established to find out if he actually signed. All these issues, all those lies we are being told amount to treasonable action.

“It is up to the people to get up and claim their sovereignty. Have we reached the zenith and we are now declining or dead so the world can come and conduct a post mortem?” he asked rherorically.
Yar‘Adua left Nigeria last November after being diagnosed with acute pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining covering the heart.
He was flown abroad and has been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, ever since.

On electoral reform, Soyinka said Nigerians are anxious to know what has happened to the electoral reform proposal.
He queried: “Who is acting on it? Who is working on the reform? Who is tinkering with it? Why are we in the doldrums? Is it that events will overtake electoral reforms? Will Nigerians forget about the reform and go into the 2011 elections like sheep?”
“We do not have a constitution, we only have a document pretending to be a constitution, it is a military centralist document which ensures re-enslavement.

On the Haiti earthquake, Soyinka said the absence of Yar’Adua had contributed to the lack of action from Nigeria: “Up till Thursday, we were yet to send our condolences to our sister nation. We pride ourselves as the giant of Africa.
“Is this not the moment when the giant of Africa should rise and send one plane load of relief materials?

“Where is the government that should speak on behalf of all of us?   All we hear is pray, pray, pray. Pray for this, pray for that.”
The Nobel Laureate also reiterated that the United States overreacted by listing Nigeria’s as one of the 10 security risk countries, following the failed attempt by a Nigerian, Umar Abdulmutalab to bomb an American airliner on Christmas Day.
He said: “It is totally unjustifiable. The boy who attempted to bomb the plane was bred and psycho-mentally brainwashed in Great Britain and not in Nigeria. The US has to review its decision.

If we had a government, we would never have been placed on that list. The heads of state would have spoken to each other. There is no one to speak to and we are seen as a potential threat to international security.”
Soyinka also expressed worry about the return of “torturous” police officer, Zakari Biu to the Nigerian Police. The police authorities recently reinstated Biu.

“It is meant to be a peace keeping agency. Biu’s return could be likened to returning to the monstrous days of Abacha. We know the number of people Biu tortured. The crimes against humanity which he committed should warrant instituting a case against him in the International Criminal Court.”

Nollywood, a popular movie industry in Nigeria has endorsed the candidacy of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 6 polls in Anambra State.

The movie stars, who graced the occasion of Anambra Stakeholders Interactive evening with Soludo tagged “An evening with Soludo” in Lagos, expressed open support for Soludo in his bid for the governorship race.
Movie stars that numbered over 30 represented the body. They expressed confidence in the ability of Soludo to re-direct Anambra politics for the benefit of all the people of Anambra.

Some of the celebrated actors and actresses included Chidi Mokeme, Ernest Obi, Jennifer Eliogu, Ndidi Obi, Oge Okoye, Ebube, Benitar Nzeribe, Chinyere Winifred, and Benedict Johnson among others. They unanimously agreed “Prof Soludo deserves all the support as he is a great leader whose leadership qualities are admirable as his willingness to serve is encouraging.”

Ernest Obi, who spoke on behalf of the movie stars, said a vote for Soludo is a vote for the transformation of the state for good, adding: “We are convinced that Prof. Soludo is the best candidate out of all other equally good candidates. It is now time to settle for the best. Soludo is not only a man of great vision but a realist that has been tested and proved to be an achiever,” he noted.

The fashionable celebrities explained that they would not close their eyes “when a credible candidate that will deliver the state is in the race,” calling on the people of Anambra to ensure that Soludo emerges victorious.
The group also lauded the combination of Soludo with his running mate, Senator Emma Anosike, saying: “It is a perfect match”.

In his speech, which he delivered extempore, Prof. Soludo, cautioned the people of Anambra not to be indifferent in the February 6 polls as the time to deliver the state from bad governance is now.
He said there is need for the elite to volunteer to be part of the political process so as to ensure that the state does not continue to drift.

Soludo also had an interactive session with Anambra Stakeholders. It was tagged “an evening with Soludo” which was attended by Anambra indigenes and friends. The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), who expressed joy for the large turnout and support in view of the personalities that attended, said it was time to put the state on the world map.

“The time has come for us to deliver Anambra State, our dear state. We can no longer shy away from this call that is why I am here to salvage the situation. It is sad that the state is increasingly becoming desolate.
“The tragedy is that the elite appear to have lost faith in the system, they appear to have given up. But the situation is not irredeemable because we have the solution. I am worried that if we do not take the bull by the horns today, we will not have a place to be proud of again.

“Year 2010 should be a watershed and we should all resolve that this decay must stop. Unemployment is soaring higher, poverty is on the rise while sadly enough, okada riders have become the only business that is rising in greater speed.”
Soludo reiterated his resolve to make Anambra “the African Dubai-Taiwan’ adding that a new Anambra State was not only possible but has become inevitable.

I like the way you reason. Unfortunately, the likes of Sunny-bobo have been nursed from infancy that Biafra is a place like Eldorado. They set the Igbo people back way more than they can even fathom. It may be impossible to change their minds. They continue to propose Biafra and at the same time whine about not getting a shot at the presidency? Makes no sense.

As to their anti-Yoruba sentiments, only one word for it---Jealousy.
Another yoruba knuckle head roaming the net. I wonder how you retard arrived at the conclusion that Igbos are jealous of low life yorubas.  Jealous for what? what do your parasites have to offer?
