To Olaochi and Hati, The discussion on Yoruba origin, its language, its relationship to Arab or Jew or Egyptian, is far older than any of us. None of us was there and we can only rely on submissions made using historical tractions via arts, oral records and as well new and modern tools for approximating events. There are two camps here on this issue, the side that supports Yoruba is aborigene and the other which claims Yoruba is migrant. The migration camp is where I belong, and I know it's where Olu belongs, Babaramota is a recent convert to this. None of us doubt or deny that people were living on this land before the migrants. In fact we acknowledge that there are two civilizations merged into one and now known as YORUBA. Yoruba is an identity for the migrants, whereas Ugbo is an identity for the aborigenes that pre-existed on the land before Yoruba arrival. There were also contention in the past as to the nativity of the migrants and the question of whether they were origins of Ile-Ife, from where they initially migrated out, and then returned home at a later time in human memory....or if they were origins of AfroAsia and settled a unknown geolocation now known as Yorubaland. Old Testament says origin of man was Eden and after expulsion they moved East. Historians placed this East in Nineveh. How could the Yoruba ancestors have known of a place called Nineveh and claim it as their homeland? Impossible! But they claimed a place know as IleIfe as not only their homeland, but as the origin of mankind. There is congruence in oral and Biblical accounts, as well in the two holy lands. Now, consider the distance apart of the two places, in an age when there were no phones, television, radio, maps....but yet they successfully nailed the origin and genesis accounts in the Bible. In any case, the issue of language classification is a wash. The grouping is made on assumptions, it is an approximation based on information available to the person that mapped the languages in the 1800s. If Hausa lived in the forest belt it would also have been classified as a Niger/Congo. Go and look in Hausa language (minus the donations from Arabic) and Igbo language, there are just as many similarities as you will find between Igbo and Yoruba. Did the language mapper not know this? We are at a time when almost every citizen of a nation have a degree as basic qualification, yet there will be multitudes without a single shred of enlightenement in their spirit. So let's caution ourselves about waving the banner of scholarship everytime there is discussion on mundane issues that posession of scholarship will not make a dint of difference to advance. If Igbo language was located in the North it would have been classified as a Nilotic. I agree with baba, the mappers had no knowledge of the tongues they were indexing beyond the need to help their missionary interests and ease the work of teaching religion. Just for thoughts read the below and see that these are also scholars and experts in same field of professional expertise as the scholars and experts on your side of the argument. ![]() |
Uchihaitaci:In a corporate environment its called good business judgement. Banking and investment is a risk. So you have to continously assure your customer that there is no problem. |
May her soul rest in peace |
e7ejinima:It is impractical in a democratic setting to ignore your kind. We are practicing an American social order. American is multi-racial country, Whites are the mainstream in all spheres of the democracy, they dictate, by default, what other races must do....even on things that are naturally in disharmony with their ethnic nature. Thats as fundamental as it gets! No leader can do those things you wish for in your post. They remain IDEALS....we can wish them day and night, 365days a year, from now till kingdom come....as long we practice democracy, they are impracticable. The most you can get is a partnership. This is why alliance makes sense. But Igbos dont like to ally with other big groups...they call it slaving, but they start shouting that slaves are not including them in affairs of the nation. |
omenka:It's wrong to say he could pass, he is indeed educated and enlightened. Do you not know that this guy is a policy leader on SE socio-political agendas? If there is a gathering of inputs on how to progress SE and Igbo, Nnanna's input will feature. So don't say he could pass for educated and enlightened, such qualifiers are for uneducated but successful spare parts traders whose money speak for them in lieu of enlightenement. There are naturalized Americans who have had their citizenship revoked and lost legal recognition as Americans and deported after the fact, simply for speaking of America and its leadership the way communists would speak of America. In the application for citizenship one is asked to disclose if they ever were a sympathizer of a communist agenda in the past, now or will be in the future. I am sure Nnanna has investments in Yorubaland. I see no reason why he could not be declared a non-entity in Yorubaland. The guy is a member of an agenda circle that sees Yorubas and Yorubaland as enemy. We should treat him as one, period! Evict him and everything he owns from Yorubaland. |
This cannot be inside Aso Villa. Beside, for security reasons, outside the grounds of Aso Villa, the First and Second Ladies should not be at same location. It's okay when they are in the security tight grounds of the Villa. I still want to know where this was. Even the First maiguard sleeps in something more plush than this. |
obonujoker:Actually it needs to happen. It's job protection and can be for state or region. In which case Yoruba can do a regional job protection for their indigenes. It's a good lead and I like what Akwa Ibom has done. |
deantimes:Regardless, what is Fayemi coming back to do? Same goes for Ajimobi trying to go to Senate. To do what? Our politicians have no future and no vision. Can they take a leave and go on world adventure and learn cultures and customs of foreign lands and then bring back to help grow society, instead of jumping from senate to government house, back to senate, back to government house....? Tinubu recently campaigned in Lagos that people should learn to let-go of office after doing two terms or 10yrs. Bring in fresh ideas and give others room to contibute. He got a overwhelming support and true to the statement when it was time to elect party Excos the old hands stayed away and allowed new brands in. This is why Lagos leads and others follow. |
Moorish:I disagree with this. Documentation of events and history come through many medias. Art is one of them. The ancient arts are themselves records of history. Equally, our written history were not manufactured out of thin air, a writer took narration of the events from an oral chronicler. Do you disagree? So our oral history form the genesis of what is now written about us. Let us stop dismissing the power of oral history but we embrace people like Olfert Dapper and call him an authority, even though he has never in his life stepped foot on our soil and cannot vouch for the nonsense he wrote. On the Yoruba backing off, I stand with Baba ramota. Personally I feel it's an embarassment that it has to come down to this back and forth but I sincerely agree that a lesson needs to be taught here. Even if I was not a Yoruba, watching what Edo has done in past on internet to ridicule Yoruba history, I will back the determination of Yorubas on this thread to humiliate Edo in return. |
^^^ Kindly read what you wrote up there. Do you not see you are self-patronizing? Every parent desire for their children to outdo them. At what point does a son of the noble stop being an appendage to his aristocrat father, and make name for himself? Ile Ife has spun so many independent nations around the globe and each of them has name recognition devoid of attachment. Why couldn't Edo in all the years of service and loyalty you have dedicated to worshipping your foreign Oba, make a name for yourself devoid of Bini Kingdom? Give it a thought before you reply. |
davidnazee:David, Any article that you post must include link to the source. Your stories are not credible. |
BabaRamota1980:I think his name was Ewedo. Correct? |
davidnazee:Do you mind naming the wars of conquest so we can check it up and be educated? Every war has a name. What are names of some of these wars, if you are truthful? |
samuk:Read my last comment. |
Obalufon:Aworis dont fight. Do you know what is unique about Yorubas? Every war we fought we know the principals and the given name of the war. If we cant find in archives name of a war or names of the principals then that war did not happen. There is no record of a war featuring Awori principals. They occupy western part of Ogun all the way to Dahomey and down to Badagry creeks. Yet it was Egba that fought Dahomey over Awori territory. The Aworis themselves did not fight. Their covenant is priesthood, so they abstain from war. Benin presence in Lagos is for defense. In the war of Agidingbi, the first Kosoko vs Beecroft war, the Aworis vacated their palaces and left town. In the second war of Ahoyaya, they left town again. After war they returned. Thats what Benin signed up for, to defend Lagos in contract for trade benefits on the coast. King of Lagos domain covers only Lagos Island. Ikoyi, Lekki, VI, Atlantic City, Apapa, Ijora, Iganmu, all of Mainland....all belong to the Aworis. In terms of land ownership, the land the palace is built on is the only one Oba of Lagos can claim to his pedigree. He has no other land anywhere. Yoruba scholars intimidated oral authorities to yield to them the custody and rights of historical accounts and reviews. Unfortunately, except for few, they failed in their task to shield the history from tainted injections from more conservative historians competing to displace our superiority. |
Hey babaramota, im looking something up in the library. whats name of that ogiso whose queen gave pussy to chiefs to change what oracle said? |
samuk:Benin did not settle in Lagos untill 1600s. Lagos was never part of Benin. Benin had a throne in Lagos to protect against invasions from Dahomey. Benin did not fight the owners of Lagos, they were invited to secure their farms and lands against invasions from Dahomey. If the original invitation to Oyo had been honored Oyo would be the throne, not Benin. |
BabaRamota1980:Dont ask, show him. Here is picture of Yorubas converting to Fulani. This was witnessed by an Edo, Steveosaz who was a student in the North. Shikena!
|
Obalufon:Very true! Portuguese had trading posts in Wydah and Aworis were already exchanging trades with them through the Badagry creeks. |
davidnazee:As told by your neighbors, the Ijaws.... Lord Nama-Oru and his people made their way from Upper Egypt first to the Lake Chad region and then to the Bussa (Buassa) and Nupe regions on the middle Niger. It was here that they made a temporary home (The Borgu Kingdom). Other key actors who have been remembered as ancestors include Prince ADUMU (ADIMU, a.k.a. Oduduwa) eldest son to Lord NAMA-ORU and his close companion and Priest ASARA. While Nama-Oru died at Bussa and Asara remained permanently at Bussa, Prince Adumu led a group of explorers to explore the southern forest lands down to the Lower Niger, and eventually choose the Ife region as a place to establish a permanent kingdom. But already established in the land, in scattered communities were the Kwa (Ugbo, Ooyelagbo) who had arrived somewhat earlier within the same timeframe from an earlier settlement between the Niger/Benue confluence. While some of these earlier settlers welcomed the newly arrived and supported the foundation of a city-state, others opposed it. Thus the stage was set for the legendary war that gave birth to the first City State in the southern savannah region of West Africa. |

Moneywomen17:I don't know why baba ramota even brought this in here. Look at the bold. I will be more than happy to discuss with you on a different thread, not here. There is a thread opened by blkmum200 and is called Where is Oduduwa really from? There is another one opened by 2prexios and is called Origin of the name Yoruba. Pick either ne and we can discuss at length. I have some hard to deny truths and insights to share with you. |
Moneywomen17:Let them deny it. I will bring a more damning report. Do you notice where Edo threw their young girls at Igala warriors to be defiled. its like bribery to pacify the galas against war. They got this far because of our silence in past. |
Baba ramota thank you much for that analysis. I enjoyed it. You correctly picked holes and gaps in the story that Edo struggle to explain. Can you imagine a king ordering execution of his only son and heir? ABOMINATION! I love your analogy with the dumb house owner burning his family home in hope for more. Im surprised king never even asked for the son's corpse, his only son for that matter! Such weird and twisted humans, with the dishonorable Queen in tow is what they want us to believe as the founders for our majestic thrones. Even their witchcraft is not potent enough to make this one believable. WE REJECT THE HOAX! Good job my brother! |
Igala also had a war with the Binis defeating Binis and carried the mask, which hitherto Oba of Benin used to wear. It means in the spiritual realm that Attah Igala is wearing the head of Oba of Benin. It was called, Eju-beju ailo; one other thing alien to the Igala then which was among items carried from Oba’s palace was cocoa nut was not known to Igalas. They describe it as resembling palm kernel belonging to Oba of Benin. After the defeat in the first war, which they (Binis) suffered in the hands of the Igalas, no stone was left unturnrd in the second war. Firstly, they let loosed their beautiful girlsn to go naked into the camp of the Igala soldiers in an attempt to defile them. Secondly they hired the service of the Portuguese mercenaries who fought on the side of the Binis. . The Igala soldiers who went to invade Bini retreated but could not come back home. They were afraid of returning because they did not abide by the instruction given them by their king. Then, they settled by the river banks near Idah (Iba-aji). In 1515, from Portuguese missionary records, we know that the Igala fought fiercely and gallantly in war that made the Oba of Benin to request the aid of the Portugal mercenaries to support the war with ammunition to describe the strength and skill of Galla people in war. |
EdoNation: . You want to censor your ancestors. Becareful...they might show their displeasure to you fiercely. Let the truth stand as is. Do not make your ancestors angry. |
DaRapture:You missed Martin Luther King Jnr and Barack Obama, as well Denzel Washington and Beyonce and her husband Jayzee. Heck, you even left out Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown. Please redo list and add these people. MLK's middle name is Ifanyi. |
KingSango:I thought you have an indepth knowledge of the history of Yoruba politics and priesthood. Am i mistaken? Just quick...if there is need to take a deep dive I suggest you open a new thread to share more rather than derail this one. So ancient Yoruba culture and civilization has always revolved around three conventions. 1 - The Sovereign Covenant. Consisting of the Priest-King rulership. 2 - The Orisha worship Consisting of the cosmic deities. 3 - Ifa Templar Consisting of the ancient sacred manuscript and the Order of Imole. 3 is the ASE code of living on the material plane. Mankind is destined for a life of benevolence but the physical world we live in is primarily a malevolent sphere. It barricades success and progress. It cannot be removed, but its effects can be softened. Ifa guides the way around these barricades so one's path is not deviated from destiny. It applies at individual or group level. This is for SELF SALVATION. 2 is the ORI in alignment to consciousness. Cosmos is a gateway between physical and metaphysical. This is the esoteric plane where matter reconciles itself with spirit and become one with truth. The divinities, the ancestors and the witnessing angel. This alignment is demonstrated in conduct and character. This is OMOLUABI and applies in INTERACTION WITH OTHERS. 1 - is a Covenant Order or a Constitution for Organizing and evolving society. This applies as a CAUSE & EFFECT of living phenomenally. The King-Priest is custodian of philosophical ideals of society and its civilization. Knwoledge, Arts, Worship, Aesthetics, Law, War, Peace....all fall under the King-Priest. Oyo, Benin, Sabe, Orangun, Popo, and so on were second-tier dynasties after the founding dynasty of Ife. We do not have much of written record of Ife as an Empire because its Imperial power had set by the time European scribes made contact. In fact Oyo almost ended in similar conclusion as we can see that while other seats of power had been visited by scribes and their history recorded, many only heard of Oyo....until the entry of Landers Brothers into the interior. Ife was the Holy City and also the capital of Yoruba. Edo Chiefs did not go to Oyo to request a Prince, they went to Ife. This acknowledges the position of Ife as a city of nation builders. Oranmiyan was unique in that the two Citadels of power and politics he founded became independent military capitals in Oyo and in Benin. The history and greatness of Ife revealed itself in a different manner....through excavations! The treasures underneath its soil revealed arts and ruins of ancient civilization. So Ife is always at the top of the heirarchy before Oyo, which came later but outgrew its parent city, Ile Ife. There should be no superiority contest between Oyo and Ife. In our modern times Lagos has outgrown Oyo. So should we say Lagos is superior to Oyo because of its might? That will be abomination! Lets respect history and not allow "superpower" mentality distort truth about our beginnings and their antiquities. |
PrecisionFx:Where were you, you must be outside Nigeria to say Yoruba did nothing. First, we were caught unprepared. Second, Abiola had alwayd been their paddy paddy in military and with Northerners. So it was not at first taken as a ethnic opposition until it became clear Abacha was after Yoruba leadership. Yoruba responded fiercely. Abacha went everywhere in Nigeria but dared not set foot anywhere in Yorubaland...not even Ilorin, fearing assassination. |
Obasanjobis no fool. Obasanjo has learnt his lessons from last imprisonment and put in place securities against a repeat. If na you nko? You go let event repeat itself? |
davidnazee:He was member of Action Group which was the Egbe Omo Oduduwa Reformed. |
madridguy:Do you not know that this is a test of faith? We all shall be tested one way or another. You fanatics of religious islam are quick to utter mumbo jumbos that have no meaning. See how quick you were in saying Subhanallah...but to you as long you say these arabic words that have zero significance your faith is cemented. Worship without acts is meaningless. I bet you if she plays lottery and win billions that guy will return to her quick quick.....for the money. For your info Im muslim, a spiritual muslim! |

You schooled in North and see Yoruba converting to Hausa and fulani?
By the way, over 60% of the AA population is believed to be of some significant portion of Igbo ancestry.
