months: Let us not decieve ourselves here, we all know the Federal courts will uphold the constitution and the numerous freedom that are enshrined which we all enjoy.
This is an effort in futility.
Yorubas should get this right, I am not fighting with u.
However, i will not be intimidated from claiming my right, in-view that my continued Nigeria status, was by force.
We had already left and abandonded Lagos in the 1960s. It was starvation by Awolowo and War by Gowon that drag us back into this dead marriage.
We are still willing to leave Nigeria today.
With that said, I maintain that Yoruba language should only be compulsory in School for Yoruba children, just like Islam is compulsory for only muslims.
How about 'It was Ojukwu's greed for Lagos that brought you into confrontation at Ore"?
months: No member of my family and never will my children go to School to waste their time learning a language that is useless in commerce, science and technology.
I sent them to school to develop themselves and contribute to human development.
How is my Igbo son/daughter learning Yoruba useful?
All this yoruba attempt to convert other tribes to yoruba is doomed to fail.
Go and teach your yoruba children their language, culture and heritage, leave other tribes out of it.
We will not hesitate to drag Lagos state government to court and get that Bill by Lagos State Assembly struck out as unconstitutional.
Just leave our children that are not yoruba out of your tribalistic ethnic domination agenda of other tribes residing the the Commercial capital of our Country Nigeria.
My children education is my priority and I am totally vested in wat they learn at School.
I want the best for them. I believe the time they will use to learn Yoruba, is best spent learning French.
There should be an option for non-yorubas in the City of Lagos.
Courts have a process that function in synergy with democratic process. The democratic process here is to follow due dilligence and register your dissatisfaction with the lawmakers. Because no lives and properties are in danger, the law to make Yoruba a compulsory language of instruction follows cultural values for learning, development and progress. The jurisdiction on the matter falls on Customary Courts to adjudicate. Therefore your lawsuit in a civil court will be dismissed and the court will rule itself incompetent on matters of customs and language. You will be referred to Customary Court and present your case to Yoruba lawyers in a Yoruba Court. The Court of Customs will ask if you have approached and addressed your grievance to the Baale in your ward. If you say no, they will ask if you have approached and addressed the issue with the Legislative member that represent your ward.
Things are done in order of process in Yorubaland. Make sure you have your ducks lined up before going to court.
Unfortunately Igbos do not know how to sustain business.
Business sustainability comes with expectations for swings...gains and losses are interwoven! When business is not going well and is on downswing, Ibos take to crimes to 'sustain gains', opposed to " sustained business".
This author need to differentiate between entreprenaurial acumen and hustling at all cost. Ibos hustle at all cost!
You seem to be interested in what I have to say. This is good. If you want to have this conversation I need you to respond to the whole content of my initial submission. Thanks.
Each of these were born in North, in Hausa speaking territory and they spoke fluent Hausa. If these people had been caught and sold into slavery while still young as Olaudah was, their memory of birth, environment and mode of expression would be nothing but Hausa and Hausaland. If asked about their birth and environment it would all be relative to Hausa culture, even though their true ethnicity and background is non-Hausa. Correct?
There are many Ibos today born in North and never stepped foot in Iboland and cant even speak Ibo. All they understand is Hausa. Same with Ibos born and raised in Yorubaland. Olaudah should be viewed in same fate, a man of non-Ibo origin, born and raised in Ibo culture.
FG has irked the people of SE enough, I believe the issue of default on the bond will be treated with some accomodations in favor of Kanu's sureties. The bargain will pay off for FG as well to reposition itself and earn some credibility in the aftermath of outrage over military vaccination.
Shocking that at this stage of awareness and familiarity with the enemy and terrain the Army is still vulnerable to ambush attacks by bokoharam. Who is supervising tactical operations?
It is equally revealing that the dead were left with their body armor, bokoharam did not bother to acquire them. They must not think these body armor of high enough grade and value to shield and protect against their opponents fire power. What is the grade worn by NA?
The Northerners have taken ownership of Delta Oil. Serious! See how they are treating an indigene of Delta, the land that finances North and rest of the country.
Where are Deltans to speak up (not blow up) and get recognition for their son?
uboma: I have recently noticed that the mints I receive from the Bank are not cut evenly.
I feel ashamed that as a country, Nigeria, we cannot get certain things right.
who is responsible for printing out these one thousand naira notes?
See picture below.
look closely and see that the one thousand naira notes were not cut evenly.
****modified*****
this is so embarrassing.
You are likely holding fake copies.
Minted currency go through more than one stages of quality assurance. The machine that counts the notes and denominations has censors that detect ink positions and would have kicked out an error. The plastic wrap that holds batches and bundles is a mechanized process and would have thrown the error if edges are not matched. So becareful what you post before you invite sniffers prowling the internet for money launderers.
The group therefore demanded that security agencies should without delay arrest Ifeanyi Ejiofor for belonging to a terror organization contrary to the laws of Nigeria.
Again, here is evidence that Nigerians go to school and acquire theories of Law but we lack application.
Pertinent question: If Kanu the leader of IPOB is presented in court on 17th, would the court permit a practicing lawyer to represent this terrorist?
If the answer is yes, then Ejiofor has not done anything wrong by advocating for Kanu. It matters not if IPOB is terrorist or not, in the eye of the law, he must have representation.
LAWCON need to get their act right and stop bulldozing us with inconsequential noise.
“It beats our imagination that men claiming to be democrats or having democratic credentials are asking the government to ignore an elected parliament in preference to a committee made up of presidential appointees to debate and resolve constitutional issues.
“You are either for democracy or for its opposite. For us in this government, democracy is the country’s chosen system of government and we are determined to deepen and uphold it.
I truly believe that Garba Shehu's understanding of a democratic society is a narrow one. Democracy in society is not limited to the three arms of government. Democracy is government of the people by the people for the people. The voice of the citizen itself is a component of democracy. Media is a component of democracy. So we are not wrong by asking that the restructuring of this country be reduced to ballot choices facilitated by INEC and refereed by other countries with referendums in their recent past. Restructuring of the country is a negotiation to obtain consent of the ethnic make up and get their agreement or none to be member in a united Nigeria. National Assembly is not a seat of ethnic representation and therefore does not qualify to express wishes and desires of the native customs and ethnic groupings. Nigeria has no native custom or ethnicity, therefore those who have sworn an oath to Nigeria cannot speak for ethnic groups.
Can someone please share this up to Garba and his co-thinkers obstructing restructuring?
PrecisionFx: ''Nigerians of Southern extraction! "
Yorubas are the ones hoping for a restructure.
You damn right! We are not hoping for restructure, thats a wrong term. We demand....and will get this country restructured or we will ruin it for everybody.
IkpuMmadu: It dawned on me that many Southerners are not aware they cannot get 2/3rd majority needed for constitutional change in fact. No wonder they are against civil disobedience. Many of them are hoping against hope to get it.
Nigerians of Southern extraction are hoping for a restructure but beyond organising a TV speech for it and Ibadan declaration top it up with numerous Facebook updates, they cannot practically tell us how they can get 2/3rd to push a constitutional change.
All the Northern leaders and groups including the president have at one time or the other directed proponents of fiscal federalism to go through the required constitutional means. The Southerners nod in acknowledgement without giving a thought to how they intend to get this.
When I kept asking for reality and practical means on a thread, without getting an answer, it dawned on me that most people do not understand how this works.
Total of Federal House of representatives is 360. 2/3rd of it is 240. You need a total of 240 members of the house if representatives to vote a yes to restructuring.
The constitution asks for a 2/3rd majority. Not a simple majority.
The person I asked this question finally realized there are no practical means. I found it funny when he even suggested that, “the South will devise a means to force the North to come to accept”. He did not state details of these means but I am certain it cannot be a constitutionally recognized means because the law already told us how to change our Constitution.
These unwritten/unspoken ways he has in mind are undoubtedly illegal or at least unconventional ways which majority including himself have condemned.
I have a gift for anyone who is ready to show in practical terms what can be done at the House of Reps. to get 240 members.
I have tried to be magnanimous. Feel free to add Kwara and Kogi to South even though we know that’s not what it is. Both has 18 members in all.
You are free to subtract the Southern representative members from 240 and then tell us how you will make up the 240 from Northern House memebrs. You need at least 45 Northern House members (this is because I added Kwara and Kogi for the South. It should have been more).
Contrary to this unelightened input, Southerners are well positioned to know that renewing contracts for any sovereingty does not need authorization from any arm of the government. Perharps Northerners are not well versed and educated in the order of civic contracts to know that the National Assembly is an arm of government and the people's choice for a new government surpasses requirements of a constitution.
When people demand to have a new government or society, whatever constitution is in vogue becomes obsolete. A new constitution must be drafted and new powers granted to consumate the demands of the people. Northerners should update their knowledge on social order and civil contracts.
Military in foreign nations are indoctrinated to see citizens of their country as their family, to be protected against predators from outside coming to attack and eliminate them. This training is total. Thus when a report of birdflu, anthrax or ebola or any other predatory threat that can eliminate population goes out, things that are non-physical....the National Guard is still deployed for threat and sabotage control. Now, you can imagine what they'd do to a physical attacker.
In Nigeria, our military is trained in the art of population abuse and torture. They are trained to recognize population as animals, a disorderly and indisciplined multitude that must be flogged, kicked, slapped, shot, whipped, imprisoned and killed.......sometimes sef at the request of a non-African expatriate.
Here is my advise to the innocent citizen on this conversation, lure this bastard soldier with something he cannot resist, trap him into a compromised situation and give him the bokoharam treatment. You know what the bokoharam treatment is dont you?
macof: even Jebba which was founded by Nupe has an Oba. ..
Jebba was not founded by Nupe.
Founded in 1703 by two brothers, Adebola Adebara and Odaso Adebara from Ajasse-Ipo in Irepodun local government area of the state, who were in search of greener pastures, Jebba town, a gateway to the Northern and Southern parts of the country, is bounded in the North by River Niger, in the West by Gata, in the East by River Osin/ Bacita and in the South by Alagbon. It is a distance of 107 kilometers from Ilorin, the state capital
Oral history has it that there was an iron deity called “Bababa” at Oke-Kesa, referred to as Juju Hill in Jebba, being worshipped by the people. To them, Juju hill is a hill with great spiritual powers of healing all sorts of ailments and provision of children for barren women. The hill, it is claimed, is daily thronged by people from near and far seeking solution’s to one problem or another. Canoe or speed boat is used to cross the river to where the hill is located. After worshipping, the people would say “Oje Bababa” to the deity, meaning good or nice father. Thus, it was from the appellation, “Oje Bababa”, that the name of Jebba was formed. Besides, Juju Hill is highly revered for its protective power of making Jebba town and its people invincible to all external aggressors.
The panel was dumb for sitting there and listen to Hamza lecture them about currency. Is Hamza a currency expert? What credential does he have in finance? None. His knowledge comes from heading intelligence and attending security briefings where experts give presentations about the black market and its threat to currency circulation. He took those hearsay to this panel to bamboozle them and Mr Oputa is sitting there mesmerized.
Im sure the OP is also awed by Hamza's abracadabra presentation, when his feeble mind could no longer contain the impression he hurriedly opened a topic to carry out Hamza's demand.......prosecute Obasanjo! mmtcheww. nonsense!
MyNewJackeT: We have ruled this country for so many years and continue to do so,
We have the largest land mass, own all the oil wells. We have conquered all the tribes in Nigeria, we are the Largest ethnic Tribe in Nigeria etc etc.
The Hausaland you rule over is backward. The people of the North under your domain are poor. You have many resources but have failed to develop them. When you are threatened with oil you panic and bring out guns and bullets. You have failed at conflict resolution. You have failed at resource development. You have failed at urban evolution. You have failed to contribute to arts, science and any of the humanity endowments that progresses mankind and improve the environment. The only thing you have succeeded in doing is stealing what belongs to others to shore up your worth.
Outside of violence, massacre, genocide, what conquests are to your credits? None!
KaluAkanu: I put the picture of Igwe Orizu, because he is the traditional ruler of Nnewi.
And the writer is simply stating his grievances concerning the sorry state that this big city is in. Village or city, Nnewi needs a lot of infrastructural investment.
This is Peter Obi's domain and he needs to invest in infrastructural projects in Anambra state as a whole. People around Alaigbo, are watching him to see the good he will bring for his state.
Really, Peter Obi is from Nnewi? Why is he building malls in other regions, does Nnewi not need super malls?
loabb2: Forwarded: This is educative- posted as received :
REMINDER: Awolowo advocated for secession to be included in our constitution, backed by the North led by The Sardauna. Azikiwe was against it, backed by the colonialist British. Now history and posterity has proven Awo right.
Excerpt: Zik Interview with New Nigeria in 1975 ........... Again, however, when the 1954 constitution conference started, my good friend, Chief Obafemi Awolowo tabled a motion to the effect that in the new constitution, provision should be made that any state which feels like seceding should do so. I was opposed to it and said ‘no’ and said that once we have a federation, we are indivisible and perpetual. That was when we began to use that expression - ‘The Indivisibility and perpetuity of the federation’ - and that to secede would amount to treason. And so, a debate ensued. The Secretary of State then was Oliver Littleton, later Lord Chandos and he was very much interested and that was his first time in seeing that people of African descent were people actually debating at a high level. So a full day was given to Chief Awolowo to make his points. He spoke brilliantly as a lawyer. He made his points why secession should be incorporated in the constitution. He cited the case of the Soviet Union which is a federation, and that secession is written there so that any state in the Soviet Union can secede at will. He also cited the case of Western Australia and eventually he finished his case and was applauded. We adjourned. The next day, I had to reply. I availed myself of the opportunity to, well, demolish the arguments of my friend and I cited the case of United States which based its constitution on that of the Swiss Confederation. That is Switzerland. I pointed out a case, I think, that of Texas versus White, where Mr. Salmon Chase, the Chief Justice laid down the principle - he was really an arbiter - that the union was intended to be perpetual and indivisible and that any attempt to divide the union by secession was treasonable. The North (NPC) supported Action Group. The question was then: Should we have secession? The Colonial Office came to our rescue. You know, the usual principle of Britain - ‘divide and rule’ (laughs) but this time, it was in our favour. So, the colonial office backed us. Lord Chandos said that on the face of the arguments before him it would be suicidal to incorporate secession in our constitution and that is why we have section 86 in our constitution that if any region or state should secede, then it will be an act of treason and that was what led to this war, because Col. Ojukwu seceded and so violated the constitution.
naijahut: The Federal Government has ruled out the use of military might to subdue the attacking force of rampaging Fulani herdsmen.
Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, retd, while featuring on a Channels Television programme, “Question Times” on Sunday night said deployment of the military to combat the Fulani herdsmen menace was not an option because, the situation has not overwhelmed the police yet.
According to the Minister, “We must protect the country which is the main function of the police. The Civil Defence are there to complement them too.
“This is a non-military issue that borders on law and order. It is not every security issue that you call in the military. It is the responsibility of the police to maintain peace. I believe that if we put the police in proper position in terms of discharging its functions, then there would be no need for military option. The police are equal to the task. If you have to deploy the army, then you are going above board. In any case, I do not even have the power to deploy the military for anything. It is only when the situation gets out of hand that you invite the military.”
Recall that Fulani herdsmen have in recent past attacked several villages across the country, killing scores of people
Now, if what has happened with military deployment to SE did not outrage my brothers here in NL, this commentary from Dambazau should blow our top. Very irresponsible and non-challant atittude from a Minister overseeing the welfare of the interior.
By all means we sc.rewed up voting a Northerner into power. They lack the knowledge and vision to carry people along with fairness and balance. They treat everything with Jihadism...'it will be done our way or we kill everybody in opposition".
Inspite of the many admonitions in their Quran to fear Allah and be just in their duties, these kafirs that masquerade as Muslims continue to defy the injunctions of their Holy Book to "Do Just and Treat Others with Equity and Fair Measure" .
Here is the way forward to 2019. If APC wants to continue in power they must field a non-Northerner, otherwise they are out. The same message applies to PDP. We will not vote a Northerner in 2019, I don't care if it's their turn or not. If they field Northerners then Southerners should find party that has a Southerner as candidate and rally behind that candidate.
captleonerd: I guess the omoale claiming to be Yoruba was in coma when kanu insulted awolowo, tinubu, Adeboye, obasanjo, kunmuyi and other notable Yoruba personalities.
where was he when KANU called us betrayers and Hausa slaves simply because we voted a Nigerian of our Choice.
where was this fake Yoruba man when we were labelled parasites and oil thieves?
There is a tie in those who jump up and shout down Yorubas in support of Kanu and the Northern infiltration of Yoruba contributors in Nairaland. You all use the same line of defense to raise opposition against the death of Nigeria.
Its a shame plenty authentic Yorubas have been scammed into the script.
Anyway, the OP wrote eloquently and I support his stance.
