Being overqualified is a thing. My colleague once almost rejected a candidate because “why would someone with a masters want a 28k job?.. they’ll just runaway after a few months, we need longevity!”

I explained him that the candidate was Nigerian and 28k was a lot of money in Nigeria, so they really would be happy with the job and wouldn’t run away.

You reserve the right to include or exclude your degrees on your cv. It will not be seen as misrepresentation.

Also, it may not be that you’re overqualified because I know PM in Nigeria is not the same as PM here- we use PMI, they use prince2 (watch videos on this).

Try to use the buzzwords for that profession on your cv or when answering scenario questions.
E.g No one would trust a project manager that wouldn't use words like “PID, term of ref, stakeholders, scope, cost, raid, risk registers, lesson learned” at interviews.

Finally, work on your tone at interviews (please speak in a way that they can hear you).

Thanks. I am actually a prince2 Practitioner

Project management roles except it's for very small companies are a big deal in the UK. If you don't have enough UK experience they might not consider, try applying for junior roles to get into the system. If you are still new in the country it might be more difficult as the security checks companies may require to do before onboarding requires in some cases to have been in the country for at least six months.

Also look at the job description very well, do they require things like SC clearance? That's a no go area if you are not up to 5 years in the UK.

My final advice for newbies in the UK is to be very realistic. A lot of mid level to senior roles require some strong UK experience unless if you have worked for very big global brands before coming to the UK. Try and get some UK experience with some lesser paying jobs or junior roles first to bridge the UK experience ish.
i applied for a role that required Security clearance, and was shortlisted for the interview. Had the interview last week for one hour 30mins. Longest interview I ever had. Was thinking they will raise the issue of security clearance but they didn't. All fingers crossed. I came to UK in Nov

Inconsistency in citing verifiable information might lead to suspicion on a recruiter's part, especially considering the part of the world you come from. Mention everything verifiable you've got, especially if acquisition of the master's, if left out, would lead to a gap you've got to explain when the security screening people start their long waka.

Qualifications don't really matter here, I could say apply for jobs which require experience you know you've got, irrespective of whether they're entry level or not (i.e. even if the job ad states minimum qualification of NVQs or something like that under essential, but mentioned something like "demonstrable experience of having managed a project in so and so field or with a spend of so and so hundreds of thousands of pounds", you put in for that, for instance).

Again, recruitment is also a highly subjective matter, some recruiters or TAQ partners might open application files from their recruitment app and immediately click through names they don't like. Others pay attention, some might genuinely feel that foreign (read "non-developed country"wink experience might not transfer well, others might think overqualification would not allow you to fit in if given the role, others might feel that it might be an asset to bring someone like you in so you can grow in the job. Some might immediately deduce your backstory ("Oh, this is a foreigner recently arrived, trying to start off in the job market in any related role"wink, others might not or might not care.

Basically, put in what you have and let it play out from there.

thanks. Don't mind my typos. It was typed on the move.....

You need experience. Try applying for a project assistant, project support or business support role. Use it to get in because you need project (preferably software or delivery experience).

Due to having such a certification, you’ll be “overqualified” for that role but if you’re lucky to have a greedy interviewer (like me), you’ll be in.

Stay 6-12 months and gain confidence/experience. that’s all you need for a proper scrum role elsewhere (don’t stay With the previous employer, they’ll keep making it look like they did you a favour).

Be patient. Start small. You won’t even remember the struggle when you’re turning down 65-75k jobs. As far as you’re in tech, you’ll win in the end.
thanks for coming through once again
I am having some issues with Regards to Project Management jobs. Most of the project coordinator/support jobs i have been applying keep rejecting my application. I am beginning to think maybe I am overqualified. Most are usually silent on first degree, some will even state GCSE. Meanwhile I display my Masters degree and Prince 2 Practitioner which I got few years ago in Naija.

Do you think that I should remove all of these higher qualifications from my project management job search when it was stated in the job advert?

What happened when I hid those qualifications and they HR does a Google profile on me and behold my LinkedIn profile props up with my full qualifications and years of experience? Na that one dey fear me pass? Won't it amount to dishonesty in the job?

Abeg make una help me look into this ....

Pls can u find out from anyone or nairaland, *using birth certificate of children, u just collected from NPC 3 months* to apply for dependent visa...pls ask if it not an issue

Pls house can anyone help with this.. 3months ago, she collected birth certificate for her (*3kids*) from National population commission (NPC) but she is worried if the certificate won’t raise flags Bcus they are gotten the same day

The person is using it for dependent visa
no red flag at all, provided that it is a legal document. i did likewise for my kids and two of them are here with me in the uk. we actually misplaced their birth certificate, but gone a replacement last year.

Good afternoon

Can someone recommend a good , easy to use and credible plagiarism checker that is in the same class or a bit lower than turnitin. Whether free or paid. Someone recommended Outwrite but it does not generate a report on the essay directly so you know where to correct.

I received a mail from Northumbria asking me to upload my WAEC pin number to the link.

What pin number are they referring to?
Is it WAEC scratch card pin?

Please is there a way to send a forgotten. Or updated document after biometrics. Someone mistakenly printed a bank statement that is less than 28 days. The cash in the account is actually more than 2 months old. Is there an email to use ?

It’s also an Apple MacBook oh that I tried to order. There’s no John Lewis or Apple Store in the town where I live, and ordering from Apple directly takes 2 weeks when I have assignments due like yesterday. I really just want them to give a formal apology for going through my social media page as it can really interpreted in so many ways.
what is the essence of having your profile in a professional medium like LinkedIn? And why are you offended that you were profiled? I tire for you ohh

Pls does anyone have a review of Egyptair. Probably someone who has used them before.

Thinking of using them, their prices are very cheap o shocked
I used them in November. Wonderful service. good aircrafts. But the only drawback is long hours. But they will give you a good hotel to sleep in Cairo (Novotels) plus dinner and breakfast, including free transportation to and from airport. I will use them again this Easter

I already logged in with my Gateway I'd, but it will still say, to protect my identity , I need to choose 2 items from the list
TheGuyFromHR:

You have to register for the Govt Gateway first. Use this link.
https://www.access.service.gov.uk/registration/email

Note that registering as a sole trader means signing up to pay tax under self-assessment.

After registering, you log in to the Govt Gateway and sign up for the self-assessment as a sole trader and all that.
You don't have to be a citizen, and you don't need someone to do it for you. However, depending on the amount and complexity of what you are going to file, you may need an accountant, and if you hire one, they can get the registration sorted for you as part of their fee.

Does this only applies to the applicant? Does it apply to their spouse by any chance?
for both but you must be working in the NHS or those public trusts.

Good day everybody. Please, can the main applicant and spouse leave behind their two Kids and travel to the UK then one of come back later (like six months time) to carry the two Kids?

What are the chances of the children getting the visa when their parents is already in the UK?

PS. The parents are considering this options because of finance.

Thanks as I wait your responses
Yes. That's what we did. There is nothing wrong with that. But If you are on a one year course, I doubt if they will give them Visa 6 months to the end of your own Visa. Maybe you make it earlier. 2 or 3 months after your arrival
