Nairaland General › Ibo Groups Fight Over Eze Ndigbo In Ghana by mikeapollo(op): 9:45am On Dec 02, 2015 |
Two Ibo groups in Ghana have clashed in Kumasi in the Ashanti region over a planned visit to the palace of the Ashanti Monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The confusion was triggered after one Eze Indi Igbo and a group of Ibos from Accra had clandestinely gone round and introduced himself to the Asantehene and the Ashanti regional minister as the king of Ibos in Ghana. The move has, however, angered the Ibo community in Kumasi who have openly denounced him. They have petitioned the Asantehene and the regional minister to resist recognizing Indi Igbo as head of the Ibo community. Speaking to Starr News, spokesperson for the Ibo residents in Kumasi Ikenna Molokwu said the group from Accra is alien to the Ibo community in Ghana. “We had information that a group was coming from Accra and they are coming in their capacity as the king of the Ibos and their colleagues; we don’t know them. The Ibos don’t have a king, we have not coronated any king here. And if they are actually coming to represent us, we should know them, we don’t know their motives. “We hear they are going to see the regional minister and the Police commander; we don’t know why because we don’t have any problem with anybody. We see them when we need to,” he fumed. Source: http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Ibo-groups-clash-in-Kumasi-over-Manhyia-visit-397754 |

Celebrities › Re: The Shameful Fall Of TerryG: A Lesson For Commercial Artistes by mikeapollo: 5:28pm On Nov 18, 2015 |
Rapmoney: For years, this Nigerian artiste thrilled us with bunches and dozens of trash! Many Nigerians actually spent this time dancing to his 'beats' filled with meaningless statements as lyrics!!! . It became so annoying when people who know nothing about good music and the generes of music in general started referring to TerryG as a hip-hop artiste!!! What an insult to hip-hop!!! Though, that didn't disturb me much because I know a lot of Nigerians don't even know how to classify music/songs.
When TerryG started this music thing some years back, he was producing and doing RnB. According to him, he wasn't selling records; he decided to 'commercialize' not only his songs but also his life. He introduced all he could into his music...flagrant display of weed smoking, drinking, celestial church bell ringing (Akpako) and other stuffs. After that, he became popular and was riding on the wings of commercial music. For TerryG, the sky was the only limit! .
Today, the irrelevance of this artiste in the Nigerian music industry is very clear; in fact, it is as clear as DSTV!!! . The young man doesn't have anything else to talk about; his weed, drink, Mr bling bling, bell ringing and other stuffs have not been able to save him. That is what is obtainable when one commercializes his music and loses his talent in the process!!! No matter how commercial you go, always remember to keep your talent intact. I know so many Nigerian artistes that are no longer heard after a short time because they either lost their talent or lacked real talent in the first place I believe Wizkid, Davido and some other music folks would still be in the limelight even in years to come because they still retained elements of their talent and sanity musically! As far back as year 2000, I was nodding my head to songs by the likes of Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, etc. Today, it may interest you to know that I am still doing that...and proudly too. Why? It is because they do commercial music but still retained their talent! They do music that suit the American populace, even down to Asia and Africa!!!
Nigerian artistes should learn how to be creative to stay relevant! It is not all about dishing out beats and crazy senseless lyrics to members of the public!!! Where is D'Smart that dis that song about pikin that wanted to drink small stout? No where to be found because he lacked real talent. He was only there to pick the few Naira notes he could while the fake fame lasted!
Recently, some artistes have reared their heads from no where and have started dishing out meaningless trash to the public. Let's see if the 'Share the gala, share the cake' artistes will still be relevant in the industry in the next two years!!! Virtually all the Nigerian musicians that claim to play hip-hop, Afro pop etc would have gone under if not for the rejuvenation of the Nigerian music scene as a result of the impact of Ghanaian-style Azonto and hiplife (fusion of fast tempo highlife and hip-hop)beats that are trending and dominating airwaves across Africa and adopted by Nigerian musicians in the last 3-4years. All what you need to do is to do a fine Azonto-inspired beat....that is what people like Wizkid, Davido, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, etc are all benefiting from in the last 3 years |

centvin008: A lawsuit filed by controversial Lagos prophet of the Synagogue Church, T.B. Joshua and building engineers affiliated with his church which challenged the verdict of a Coroner's court that found the church negligent in the fatal collapse of a guest house on its premises has been dismissed today clearing way for the trial of Mr. Joshua and the Synagogue church.
Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos turned down the prophet's request in a ruling delivered a while ago. The prophet had applied to the court to stop his trial as recommended by a coroner's court.
A Coroner Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe had determined the Synagogue Church and its contractors were negligent in the fatal collapse of a building that killed 116 people in September 2014.
The Coroner had recommended to the Lagos State Government that the church be tried, but TB Joshua and his church management challenged the findings and recommendation.
Prophet TB Joshua throughout the Coroner's inquest on the building collapse hired high-powered attorneys to frustrate the inquest and also prevent his appearance as an important witness at the inquest.

I am not against what Senator Bruce said, in principle. I am only contrasting/comparing what the South African Deputy President said against the mentality and attitude of Nigerian officials and Nigerians in general when Nigerians/Nigerian companies face similar sanctions in other countries e.g. in Ghana, Malaysia etc. We must first charge our people to respect the host nation's laws FIRST, then other considerations or negotiations can follow.
Personally, I refused to accept that MTN should pay as much as N1.42trillion as FINE. If I were the CEO of MTN South Africa, I would rather negotiate for a reduced fine or pull out of Nigeria. That amount is too much for a single company to pay. I am sure Nigerian would not want MTN to pull out. The lesson I want people to draw from the SA Deputy President's comment is: Respect your host country's laws if you do not want to fall into trouble, and we Nigerians must learn that |

Era of impunity is over. I hope you will say the same thing when Nigerian companies come under similar sanctions in other countries. What the South African Deputy President said is the right thing for reasonable people. But here in Nigeria, we think other countries owe us any special duty so they must not sanction Nigerians/Nigerian businesses when they run foul of the laws of the country. That is when we start talking about discrimination, hatred, jealousy and other silly excuses |

Activa: The Igbo in Akure, the Ondo State capital, are trying to reconcile with the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, after a few days of bickering.
The monarch had accused the Eze Ndigbo, Sir Gregory Iloehike, of insubordination and lack of respect for his authority. But Iloehike denied the allegation, saying he couldn’t be arrogant to the tribe that has accommodated his tribe for over many decades ago.
Rising from a special meeting of Ohaneze Ndigbo at the palace of the Eze Ndigbo in Akure, the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state, Chief Okechukwu Okorie, said the Igbo respect the Deji and would not do anything against his wish.
He said the Igbo in the state are peace loving people, adding that the Ohaneze Ndigbo has started reconciliatory moves with the Deji and palace chiefs to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence between the Yoruba and Igbo in the town.
The group described the relationship between the Deji and Igbo as that of a father and his children, noting that the monarch remains the father to all. He said: “The Igbo are law abiding and we remain good subjects of the Deji of Akure. We can never warn the Deji on any issue, rather he is in position to warn us.
“The Deji is our father and we are his children. Whatever he wants is our wish and we shall continue to obey his directives.” Okorie, who hinted that the Igbo leaders have decided to reconcile with the Deji, informed that efforts are on top gear to reach out to the traditional ruler.
He urged the monarch to forgive those who might have offended him, adding that the Igbo would continue to maintain the peace for which Akure is known for.
http://thenationonlineng.net/igbo-moves-to-reconcile-with-deji/ Do these journalist know what they are writing/typing? There cannot be another "palace'' in Akure apart from that of the King, Deji of Akure. People should learn how to behave in another man's land or territory. No man wears anything on the head when paying homage or visiting an Oba in his palace. Even the governor cannot put on his cap when going to visit an Oba. It is an age-long sign of respect and loyalty to the Oba and no one dares to do otherwise. Only fellow Obas are allowed to wear anything on their head when visiting an Oba. But here comes a so-called ''Eze Ndigbo'' who has no bearing nor recognition whatsoever doing otherwise. Very soon, he would start giving titles to people and installing chiefs in another man's land, and later start calling the land a ''no-man's land' |

Yorubas are about the only people who can tolerate ibos until the ibos started to think they can kick sands in Yorubas face and get away with it. Big mistake. Great insight! I don't know why an ethnic group would not respect the cultures of the host community and still expect peace. If the Igbo think Yoruba people are not tolerant, they are free to go with the Hausa. Igbos and Yorubas won't burn this country for us! I'm posting this photo to correct this rumour going up and down about people in diaspora leaders can't wear their crown to visit the state king. That is the Eze Ndigbo of kano with Sanusi.
Whenever my owan people want to visit the Emir in kano, our Enogie goes with his full regalia, and nothing has happened. Even in universities, when a tribe in the school want to visit a traditional leader, they go along with their appointed or voted king/queen. Then let all the Eze Ndigbo with their kinsmens reserve their 'crown' for their visits to palaces of the northern emirs. It is a taboo to wear anything on your head (cap, hat, crown etc) when visiting a palace in Yoruba land, except when you are a fellow Oba with same status or with the permission of the Oba. Who made you 'king' in another king's territory or domain?. Yoruba has a very rich culture and very long history when it comes to kingdoms and kingships unlike the Igbo. Respect your host and live in peace, or you do otherwise and be in trouble! Simple. |
