chris365: exactly. you are ignorant of the fact. let's keep it that way since you are unwilling to learn.I'm not being ignorant. Nigeria has never demonstrated whether it can develop quality and better performing weapons. That's not ignorance. |
chris365: Because you are ignorant of that fact.Purchasing weapons can be difficult during a war between powerful regional powers like Nigeria and South Africa. Defence industries will have to play a huge role in stuff like upgrading and maintains. A war of that scale would mean world powers will take sides like during the Biafran war. To stop both countries from fighting weapon sanctions can be applied starving both nations. This is where superior SA defence industry will became a game changer. South Africa can have proper fighting MBT between 3 to 7 years, well Nigeria........................... |
chris365: So because we don't export means we don't manufacture in large quantity? I still doubt that you are a soldier. The are a lot of reason why Nigeria doesn't export from producing weapons under license to producing weapons that are inferior to others in their class example being MRAPs. Producing is not important large or small, what's important is development of new systems and further developing old systems. 1. New designs 2. Quality 3.Politics 4.Fully Indigenous systems: This is the reason why South Africa has never managed to sell the Rooivalk. |
GH^KWAME:Yes. The Rwandan president Paul Kagame is responsible his opponents are getting murdered all over the continent or world from Nigeria,Uganda and South Africa. |
agaugust: DICON manufactures tens of thousands of assault rifles, GPMG machine guns, bullet proof vests, Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers, ammunitions/ordnance, and many hundreds of 81mm Mortar artillery and many hundreds of Amoured personnel Carriers especially STEYR 4K-7FA, they also up-armour and up-gun hundreds of Pinzgauer vehicles.Weapons that were manufactured or designed during the Bush war weren't designed for sells but better performance. The Rooivalk gave birth to South Africa's aviation industry,SA manufactures many parts for planes across the world including the A400M and Typhoon fighter jet................How many MRAPS and Mine detecting vehicles were exported to western nations?..........To sell weapons like helicopters a country needs a political and military muscle, where competition is high. Nigeria is yet to develop an aviation industry. |
agaugust: Nigeria too has many defence industries, DICON, AFIT, BADEH AEROSPACE, PROFORCE, NIGERDOCK, and several othersIf needed SA engineers will man new weapons. They did so during the late phase of the boarder war in 88-89 with Ratel ZT3,when most soldiers never fired the Ingwe missile. South African companies are currently doing a lot of mine clearing in countries like Angola and the DRC. |
agaugust: Aircraft electronic warfare too has developed , and Nigeria has the best in Africa with our ATR-42 Surveyor ruling the oceans of Africa from the air.Nigeria has no ELINT or EW plane. The ATR-42MP which it operates is a maritime surveillance or patrol aircraft. NO MINI AWAC!!!! EW kit doesn't mean it is a EW or ELINT plane. That equipment is for surveillance and patrol,it can't kind be used to guide your fighters during a dog fight. South Africa has the two EW and ELINT air systems (helicopters and plane) Here's perfect description of that plane. .en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATR_42 Now here's the profile of Nigeria's air force no mention of a EW or ELINT plane here.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Air_Force South Africa has this capability---»en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Air_Force. Besides project saucepan is on,new maritime patrol planes will be bought. |
chris365: Guy please just shut up already. Who told you Nigerian military does not service it's weapons andaterials? You are not in a Rambo movie you know!Who helped Nigeria service her Alpha jets and C-130 planes?. I'm not saying Nigeria can't do a thing what I'm saying is WHAT NIGERIA DOES IN TERMS WEAPONS MANUFACTURE AND MAINTAINS SOUTH AFRICA DOES IT BETTER AND BIGGER. |
agaugust: listen dumbo, all the missiles and guided bombs manufactured in south africa, can you fire them without imported European weapon platforms ?YES. |
agaugust: what i know well is the nightmare for you on page 806.... https://www.nairaland.com/415620/strongest-military-africa/806That page demonstrated your lack of knowledge about weapons. I mean where in history was a air to air missile tried against a surface target in the sea without modifications. |
agaugust: Nigerian stealth warships Type 056 is still being built and the full weapons are not yet known or disclosed, last month i posted here big news from south african defenseweb and beegeagle that nigeria has changed our stealth warships radars from Chinese to British.A corvette vessel is small and doesn't carry game charging weapons. Changing your Chinese radar is only normal cause China too relies on Europe for warship parts like engines and radar. And firing the Otomat missile will or never will guarantee a hit on the valour frigate cause it has many layers of protection from: stealth,EW jammers, modern radar, decoys, helicopter, modern SAM systems up to 16 or 32 umkhonto on each Frigate plus a close in weapon system which can put a wall of shells in front of any missile if detected and shred it into pieces..........................Besides a single old vessel can't or will never try to fight a modern stealth frigate escorted by a evasive diesel submarine. |
agaugust: south african defence industry is only more advanced than nigeria in missiles, howitzer artillery, drones, and MRAPs.Actually you're wrong let state more what South Africa defence industry can do and Nigeria's enable to do 1. Missiles 2. UAV 3. UCAV 4. Smart bombs 5. MRAPS 6. Maintains 7. Repair: DCD marine facility in Cape town is the largest ship repair yard in Africa 8.Advanced 155mm and 105mm howitzer shells 9. Mine detecting vehicles 10. Overhaul aircraft maintains and development.............Transferred technology doesn't mean your industry is advanced. You can't develop systems on your own, which would mean you're advanced................Spy equipment? Nigeria has no single Electronic warfare or electronic intelligence dedicated aircraft developed or fitted in Nigeria. South Africa companies install EW kits for the most advanced air forces in the world.......................South Africa imports because it would be costly to develop new systems like fighter jets from nothing. To show we are capable any weapon foreign system is fitted with South African made weapons, avionics and EW kits from the valour frigates to the Gripen multi-role fighter jets. I can't say the Badger cause it will be built in SA.........Development takes time and is costly but if needed South Africa has shown that it can develop anything from fighters to tanks. We can't say the same with Nigeria. |
agaugust: if a 3 feet short dwarf beats up a 6 feet tall man, the giant is a fool. simple.Your analogy is childish. The hungry giant here doesn't have hands to fight two fast moving dwarfs. NO animal can fight with an empty stomach. |
agaugust: i wont repeat page 806 posts. your Umkhonto missile has a very limited altitude of only 10km and CANNOT harm any nigerian F-7 jet or Alpha jet flying at 12km altitude. weapons fight based on their technical limitations not based on the wideness your basket mouthFlying at a altitude of 12km to target a stealth warship? Which has more than 50 decoys and other advanced EW kit?. Without any modern targeting pod like the lighting pod in SAAF's Gripens. Your F7 jet is a complete joke for a country like Nigeria to fly it as its main air superiority fighter. |
agaugust: VBL and Cobra APC carries 20mm cannon, grenade launchers and fitted anti-armour weapons. You're a fool to compare how vehicles are better than the other by what weapon systems they're mounting on their roof tops. Everything from the 20mm(different models are available),grenade launchers(Y3 grenade launcher) and ATGM(would be the Igwe missile in SA) can be mounted on the Mamba. Countries or armies choose that. Your BTR-3U is just a further development of existing technology, which South Africa has always been exposed to. Nigeria purchases old weapons that are further developed from the F7 jets,BTR-3Us to the type 90 AA guns ..... The South African army already has 5 prototypes of the Badger infantry vehicle. |
agaugust: .Sorry but the fact is: The SANDF has already received the AMLAGC(G7 prototype). You want me to post pictures of it with the SANDF again!!!........NATO standards doesn't mean your palmaria is any close to the G6: We can compare its 1.Firing Range 2.Range 3. Performance in combat 4. How fit it is to the African environment(can it carry food and water for long distances without stopping to get supplies).....Don't even talk about T-55 tanks cause SA uses them for training and destroyed a lot in combat.....Your Bofors FH-77 can barely/match take on the G5 MK3 not bringing up the G5-2000. |
agaugust: Ordinary Seleka 1965 vintage firepower intimidated south african army to leave CAR and never return again.Your NNS Arandu would've been sunk by a torpedo. |
homerac7: mr doofus, did Cuba produce the weapons they used in pounding you at your own backyard? Keep hating, olodoCuba and the soviet union lost a lot of equipment in Angola. Comparing the weapons used in Angola South African made weapons were superior to Russian made. SA is the cause why Russia started to develop its own HMD systems. How long did it take Nigeria to defeat Biafra? Which had a small army of 30 000 compared to Nigerian troops which numbered in their hundred thousands. Infect Biafra inflicted heavy loses on Nigeria..................Cuba and Angola received military aid from Russia. |
homerac7: You SA guys amaze me with how you labour so hard to promote yourselves as eediots. It is funny how you never see anything good about Nigeria, yet you want your country to be respected. the latest being someone saying that in case of eventuality, SA will divert resources into war efforts and Nigeria won't be able to procure loans, isn't that a doltish thing to think or say ? The most resent resemblance of such situation with a foreign country was in 2003 just before the release of World Court judgement on Bakassi, when tension was high, Nigerian president requested for initial 50bn naita from National Assembly to start with which was speedily granted and told to forward a projection for subsequent requirements. Internal sources confirmed that ambassadors flooded Aso Rock that night along with arms manufacturers and dealers from their countries hoping to cut deals, also were lending bodies agents ! Guys, we know Nigeria is presently under-representing in most facets, but it can very fatal error to continue to reason about her as you SA guys have done so far. I sincerely hope that your government and military strategists don't reason like you guys.Every country has its place. South Africa is above Nigeria. SA's defence industry has for long produced weapons with performance in mind first not towards international sells. That's why many weapons that were used in Angola are still being used today and highly effect example being the Husky vehicle. What I'm trying to tell you is that whether Nigeria purchases more advanced weapons without a defence industry to back your military in terms of servicing, maintains, further development of systems and repair. Your country will never be compared militarily to SA. |
GH^KWAME:My Africa brother maybe you read what happened towards the end of Mobuto sese seko's dictator in the DRC. It is not about size. |
agaugust: our Bofors FH-77 has the same range and sophistication as your G6 artillery, and our Palmaria is a match for your G6 in most aspects. The Bofors can match the G6? 1. It is not self propelled meaning its "shoot and scoot" tactics are limited. It crew is not protected against shrapnel in a counter battery situation by the G6. 2. It relies on gun tractors to pull it around the battlefield which can be easily located 3. Its targeting will be limited due to lack of drones, multi role fighter jets and advanced artillery observation systems............The SANDF has the G7 105mm howitzer+the G4 in its reserves. This guns are way advanced than any Nigerian light artillery. That palmaria has a range of 25km plus its mobility would limited in Desert or bush African environment. It will need tons of trucks in order for it to keep up with motorised infantry and tanks. OUTCLASSED.............Mechanised SANDF troops always fight under the watchful eye of the Rooivalk. And constant reccon and bombing by the Hawks and Gripens |
agaugust: If south africa buys more weapons with your usual bank loans, what do you think nigeria will buy ? potatoes and eggs ?Nigeria won't buy anything. Remember it is 2014 training A-Darter missiles might be getting delivered to the SAAF as we speak. TOTAL AIR SUPERIORITY OVER NIGERIA. |
Henry120: You have to take into account cost of MRAPs in relation to the budgets of these countries. How about the fact that MRAP's are diesel intensive and are not cost effective to run."People" are saying it is a Bazooka like rocket. South Africa develops or has developed light armoured vehicles which are cheap. Besides poor countries can negotiate with countries like SA to sell them ex-SADF vehicles. Even the Buffel can be effective in GPMG protection. Even with MRAPS ambushes are ambushes like one who was close to Colonel Ndala said:"It is called ambush because you're less if not prepared against it". |
agaugust: old and second hand equipment like Cobra, VBL, BTR-3U, ATR-42 Surveyor, PL-9C missiles, Bofors Artillery, Sandcat MRAP, Stealth warships Type 056, Shaldag super gun boats, spy satellites, spy balloons, Mi-35 Hind....Lol !!!Mamba is better than the Cobra and the VBL. The Ratel is better than the BTR-3U in the African environment,it can even carry water for long "trips". The MI-35 hind is not any close to the super hind(Not operated by the SANDF) and Rooivalk. Bofors 48 vs G5 75 the same class but which army can find targets?.....Nigeria has no stealth vessel the small corvette vessels currently being built won't have larger space to fit deadly weapons. And won't measured up against the valour frigatse. |
agaugust: did Kabila have only 3 men as escorts too ?No,neither did Mamadou. Some of his men were rushed to hospital with the "technicals" in his convoy, before the video was taken. His vehicle singled out: strike by rocket followed by automatic weapons. People who spoke to his bodyguard say the claim the rocket came from the right and the attackers wore old FARDC uniforms. The people who assassinated him had some good intel. |
agaugust: South African artillery is all obsolete excluding the G6...only 46 units. Lol !!!The G6 is the G5 on a OMC chassis. The G5 is not obsolete cause Denel constantly develops it. The G7 is obsolete? It is Better than all Nigerian howitzers. |
agaugust: Uganda threatens to attack South Sudan coup plotter/rebels unless they agree to cease fire and peace talks in Ethiopia. My African brother Ugandan troops are rumoured to protecting Juba. While some military journalists claim those planes bombed targets in South Sudan. The "white army" would beg for mercy if Kenyan attack helos would be deployed. |
agaugust: does Congo DRC president drive around in light skinned vehicles ?Yes, Kabila drove to Goma about two or one month ago in a light toyota land cruiser. LOL it even got stuck at along the way, many Rwandan journalists made fun for the situation which was captured on camera. Photos of the stuck vehicle in pool dirty water+mud were spread on Twitter...........The car was hit by a rocket, even a MRAP wouldn't have survived. I don't think he would've accepted to drive around in a MRAP by way,Mamadou Ndala was always with his men exposed to the dangers they were exposed to too. |
agaugust: ....because your Army Labour Union was afraid to die, they just want monthly salary . Lol !!!SANDU backs the army regardless of the mission. Currently most of their leadership is silenced and can't talk nor comment anything about SANDF missions. |
agaugust: listen dude, artillery gun barrel life span is not counted by months, it is counted by number of shells fired. many modern guns can fire 2,000 artillery shells before the barrel wears out for replacement. It depends on what range you're firing those shells. Firing at maximum range will cause any howitzer to require constant maintains(barrels changes and stuff). 120mm are classified as artillery not an infantry weapon, and you didn't add that the SA artillery. The SANDF also has the G7 105mm prototype in unknown numbers. ........1. Regarding your artillery the only threat would be the Bofors. The Palmaria can't exchange shells with the G6,which beats the Palmaria in a wider range. 2. Is target fixation which army has better targeting systems. Nigeria doesn't have an answer to the Vulture drone, the only drones Nigeria have need airstrips which in Africa are hard to defend. Also Nigeria doesn't an answer to the Ratel EAOs. 3. Air power or superiority in Libya we saw images of destroyed palmaria howitzers. Without any advanced jet to keep any fighters away from your positions your army will be fried. 4.Constant supplies of advanced shells like Denel's V-LAP round....................Nigerian artillery is obsolete excluding the bofors. |
agaugust: Ranking is based on equipment, manpower, war history/battlefield experience/combat records, and economy/finance.1. Equipment what equipment will Ethiopia field that SA won't have an answer to?...Our engineers from the defence industry can be sent the front lines? 2. Manpower needs vehicles and helicopters to move soldiers around the battlefield. How well are Ethiopian vehicles and helicopter serviced. 3. Combat experienced of Ethiopia? Tiny nation of Eritrea always proved to be too much for them. 4. Defence budget: If your soldiers are not paid morale will be low and ill discipline will find it place ..........If any country threatened to invade SA. Seen war is inevitable the SA government will channel funds to the SANDF. 1.A Massive recruitment will begin 2. Defence projects will deliver weapons quick as funds will be available. 3. Offensive weapons for the Gripens and Frigates will be delivered from torpedoes to cruise missiles 4. Within a month or 2 of declaring a war against SA,SANDF vehicles(MRAPS,armoured fighting vehicles and IFV) will number around 5000.........From the reserves equipment like G4 155mm howitzer will be back in service........South African can stop any army in sub-Saharan Africa and keep it busy for 6 months. To bring game changing weapons like the G7 howitzer to battlefield in numbers.....If that failed illegal chemical weapons and cluster munitions will be used. |
agaugust: You should have waited there and let NNS Thunder strike your soweto warship.Retaliation would've leaved the Nigeria navy without much needed vessels. Cause we clearly don't know whether that ship was escorted by a submarine or what. In open sea the Nigerian navy can't defeated the South Africans'. They clearly can't fight evasive submarines plus stealth frigates. Speaking about navies I think it is safe to say the South African navy or the SANDF is in a defensive position. If threats are ever made against SA the frigates would be armed with cruise missiles and the gun will be replaced. For the past decade or so the SANDF has purchasing weapons that seem defensive. |
