Nairaland GeneralWhat Is The All-time Greatest Failed Internet Startup? by Milo30(op): 7:27pm On Oct 20, 2017
This question was asked on quora.com. Most of the companies mentioned were victims of the dot.com bubble burst, so their predicament is quite understandable. However, this particular answer was just hilarious. The company was to take Uber head on. They had the resources, but then...
The most hilarious one is definitely Karhoo.

Founded in early 2015, by the end of the year Karhoo had raised a reported US$250m , and expected to launch its app 3 months later in London, New York and Singapore after apparently securing a network of 200,000 taxis and minicabs.

It planned to raise US$1bn in mid 2017.
The CEO and founder, Daniel Ishag, planned to take on Uber and “…level the playing field.”

A year after the reported US$250m raise and six months after the app launch, it shut down its service , with all the money blown, and with more than 100 staff out-of-pocket - ok, that’s the not so funny bit.

It later emerged that Karhoo had actually raised closer to US$30m, and the US$250m was just bullshit.

The incredible lack of financial controls were highlighted by Daniel’s own spending on the company’s credit cards - first class flights, designer shoes, £5,000 on vet bills for his pet dog!

The dog must have been wondering what the heck was going on. And now he’s back to his dog’s life, he’s probably still trying to figure out what the heck happened.

The odd thing is that it’s this type of bullshit and hype that sometimes gets entrepreneurs very very far. A good chance Daniel will be back with a vengeance…

Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Many Christian Youths Live Double Standard Lives? by Milo30(m): 6:02pm On Oct 08, 2017
2 Timothy 3:1-...
1This know also, that in the
last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents,
unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection,
trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers
lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of
corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live
godly in Christ Jesus shall
suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy
scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be
perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

All the non Christians here that are persecuting Christians in the name of Islam, atheism, 'logical' reasoning, etcetera, know it that you are part of it all. For what Christian does not face persecution. St. Paul was a killer of Christians before God called him, and changed him radically. Fellow Christians, don't feel bad when you are 'attacked' for faith's sake. God is our focus, not persecution.

On the topic itself, globalization has blurred out the boundaries of sin. What used to be abominations, that were not even spoken of in our families, are now glorified in our movies and all other forms of entertainment. The impact of movies such as 'Hangover' on global morales go undetected, but in this age, there is a constant supply of demoralizing content everywhere, such as have never been seen in the world before. Hence the increase in practice of a double standard life. But he that holds on to the end shall be saved. If you are suffering from consistent temptation, talk to God about it. You may seem to be getting deeper and deeper, but God is a rewarder of they that diligently seek Him. Even the most righteous falls seven times, but gets back up. "Don't give up on God, 'cos He won't give up on you. He's able!" Peace...

Hi All, i just got a new Huawei android phone. I need someone to put me through on how i am going to automatically transfer my phone contacts from my old phone (blackberry z10) to my new device.
You could export your contacts to your Gmail account. Open 'Contacts' on the Z10, check the options list for 'Export' or something like that. Export to mail.
Then on your new phone, go to your contacts. On the options list, select import, from mail. Log into the same gmail account and voila!
Please note that you need data connection to do this. Tell me if it was helpful.

To your question 'who'll say yes to a whatsapp proposal?'... There are tonnes of ladies who will and guess what, it won't make them less humans or worthless females.. Haba
Appropriation in a subject like marriage should not be joked with. Should one conduct a wedding on video chat? I believe if a man really desires to have a woman as his wife, he should be man enough to ask her physically. It creates the memory, builds the relationship, strengths the love, e.t.c. Different strokes for different folks. If anybody thinks its good for them... *shrugs_shoulders*
GamingRe: Gaming In Nigeria And A Look Into Nigerian Gaming Studios by Milo30(m): 4:50pm On Sep 29, 2017
LXStudio:
To be a successful video game company, you absolutely must put the ROI extremely high on the priority list. You have to pay salaries, bills, taxes, and all production costs that go into making the game.

Photogrammetry isn't simply about driving around town and taking photos, you need special equipment that can read the actual land data and convert it into height maps in the game, which then needs to be adjusted by the track designers and textured by the artists. You need to have 3d modellers, riggers, animators, lighting and visual effects artists that will work on the cars. You need to have physics programmers that will work on the physics of the driving model. You need to have programmers that can take all the data that the artists have created and still have the game perform smoothly at 60fps.

It's a balancing act really. You're creating a product that consumers will purchase which will help you make better products. If you do not consider the ROI, no serious investor is going to put money in your business. Without money, you can't pull off creative techniques like Photogrammetry. Without creative techniques like Photogrammetry, your game can't compete internationally. If your game can't compete internationally, your business will fail. If your business fails...well...you get the point lol smiley
You just folded a company you haven't even started grin. I read about photogrammetry, and it will cost a lot for such a project as the NFS type. But I don't know any great company that started out with all those complex gear and staff. Most times, a couple of guys do something incredible, develop a small 'cult' of customers, then investors, then BOOM: Sales, marketing, H.R and everything. Check on Rovio, the company that made Angry Birds. Also, watch Silicon Valley and see what excess capital can do to a startup. I saw a post where someone used a Samsung Galaxy S6 for a simple photogrammetry project. Of course, you can't scan Abuja with it cheesy but it could be the concept for something larger (cc: Elon Musk's fundamental principles approach) Cheers. You educated me today, I appreciate it.

Some persons are very shy naturally and if that is the only way they've been communicating then he can say whatever he wants to say to her. She should upload their previous chats and we will see how long she's been stringing the poor boy along.
But shy people have been proposing before Whatsapp was invented. Asking a lady out on Whatsapp can be managed but a marriage proposal? People even shut down restaurants to do it. Who will say yes to a Whatsapp marriage proposal? How about the ring?

You think it's only disheartening to me??

Imagine how Microsoft's current team of Windows phone engineers would feel after learning that their founder and face of the company would rather have the phone from a direct competitor. YES, GATES IS AN ABSOLUTE MOR.ON FOR MAKING SUCH A REVELATION.

I can't see Gates being an idiot for no reason, there has to be a reason. One can only imagine that Gates would commit such a foolish act as a tease to some sort of Google partnership or buyout of Windows Phone.
The Windows Phone market has already collapsed. "A good name is better than riches". It is already a failed project. Talk about MMM. No amount of rebranding (that would be cost effective. Heck even if they use cash excessively...) can fix MMM back into the financial market as a dominating institution. Steve Jobs performed a miracle with Apple when he was called back. But there was only one Steve. He brought his new company (Next computers) which already had a growing market, back into Apple and that saved them from total disaster. Even Google has failed projects too. Microsoft has always been an aggressive competitor, they are not just used to loosing.
