I can sense you feel drained and burnt out, there is nothing to feel guilty about wanting to have the space to get in touch with self, again as you can't pour from an empty cup.

It is good you are thinking of seeing that your son establishes a physical relationship and bond with his father irrespective of his financial situation. It gives your son the opportunity to directly experience his paternal side of his existence, so that it eliminates most of the "what ifs" when he becomes an adult.

Your son's growth and development should be a shared responsible between you and his father, so that you can be in the right headspace. It would also help your son's father to work on getting a better grip on parenting, providing both materially and emotionally.

OP, start with getting in touch with the social welfare office as your daughter's father must be dragged into the picture as long as it is very provable that he fathered her, he has an OBLIGATION towards a child he fathers, within marriage or outside it. I see such regularly at the children' protection office where I put in some hours weekly.

His safer option is to sit down with you, your daughter and the social welfare officials and come up with a care plan for the child which would be documented or he has to start dealing with the criminality of sexually taking advantage of a minor which resulted to pregnancy and eventual abandonment .

Addiction is a brain disease, he needs to willingly get admitted into a rehab, though it is not the magic bullet if he is not self-driven as I work in one and some of the patients have been to rehabs severally, only to relapse by poor management of triggers.

Many of our patients woke up to find themselves admitted into the psychiatric wards, brought in by their families. Most of them become calm when the reality of spending some weeks in the wards with patients who "hear colours and see voices" hits them. Their detoxification starts there before the psychiatrist can approve their being transferred to the rehab unit, which is like heaven compared to the wards.

They spend 3 months in the rehab continuing with their medication, one-on-one and group psychotherapy, occupational therapy, psychoeducation etc. If an addict is not willing, these intervention would just be a waste of time and finance.

I intend to continue with my PhD immediately after my masters, I want a career in academia, should I mention my intention? I don't want to lie in my application.I'm yet to see anybody with this intention. Hope it won't ruin my visa chance.
