Because quite simply, we are not earning enough from oil. Oil accounts for most of our earnings, and the price is too low for us to make much.
The fact is, our budget is just about $26 billion dollars. Our reserve is about $33 billion now. All for a population of 200 million people.
Comapre with the UK which spends $100billion for health alone.
Add the fact that corruption and looting would chop most of our money.
The truth is, we are not a rich nation. Both parties in Nigeria are not interested in changing Nigeria because Nigerians themselves want the money to be shared. We won't spend what little we have on developing our productive capacity. Instead, we use the money for sharing.
That's why we can never develop, and why we will be taking loans. We are not earning enough money. And until we change our mindset to that of a producing industrial nation, we shall be where we are forever.
It is not a mystery actually. We all know where the issue lies. You spoke well, it shall be well with you!
NaijaRoyalty: Looks like stimulus packages meant for Somalia Refugees .
Smh
LMAO! Abeg make una free our proudly corrupt leaders. Make them dey do their thing, abi na today nyash begin dey back? Rule is take their words with a pinch of salt to help keep your sanity intact.
PureGoldh: Commendable....God bless Pastor Kumuyi.
Truth be told, all dx donations should be channeled directly to the individuals that need help in this perilous time rather than donating it to FG who will at the end of the day embezzle the whole funds
You know the usual Nigerian way it goes na. One who thinks Deeper of Life of an average Nigerian will know it is a better way to go. Give directly to the needy, and/or even directly buy the medical equipment they need and donate.
Our leaders are too roguish in nature to be trusted that much.
Agent8706: Call me a prophet of doom, but the sad reality is that the way I am seeing things, we Nigerians don't know (or choose to ignore) what Corona can do. Imagine movement everywhere during this lockdown, putting our lives at risk as if we have 9 lives. May our case not be like the Americans and Italians where Convid-19 is feasting on souls like the end is here!
When they sow so little in Education, what do they expect to get if not an ignorant multitude of people? No one reaps what he did not sow.
Truth is the ignorance level long maintained deep down in our society does not support the swift level of understanding they are looking to reap. The people cant accept lock down, because majority of the people can only eat what they make in a day, and can only make what they eat in a day. And to them, many a time, a caring govt simply does not exist in the first place that they could take the people's survival so seriously. It's a dilemma of some sort.
luvinhubby: Good one. But it takes more than a fine building to have a good hospital.
Hope it's properly equipped and manned by competent hands that are well paid?
Your head dey there. Our leaders are just too uesed doing too little, and making a big show of it. Euipment and qualified personnel are also key. Though this may be something, we have got a long way to go.
rottennaija: We are having a much better deal than foreign countries o oo
Shaking my head in disbelief. This can't be same rotten naija that we know where never seem to work as they should. Safer to say there is something fishy about this impression, what we are seeing here. More like make-believe.
SenecaTheYonger: 1.8 million naira a year is average for a developing country. We are not poor, we are very wasteful is all it is.
You can say that again. Very true. Even the blind can see that is the problem with our leaders, a truth hypocrites like to deny claiming scarcity of resources is the problem.
Iamgrey5: So anyone that doesn't support PDP is a paid propaganda machine of APC.
I thought every society respect the role of voice of dissent and civil societies in shaping governance.
It's true that PDP are simply pretending because they are currently in the opposition. You are just as terrible as APC
Don't mind them. It is a crime to speak his mind. Like Soyinka doesn't the liberty to hate Jonathan's failure, a people so shortsighted, quick to forget Jona's lack of performance was a selling point for the present unproductive government. Do they even know Soyinka's history, a man now even too old to keep trying to do what younger ones should be doing.
Nbote: Dis guy has simply added 3 more ventilators to our fleet of working ventilators... A govt who has sense will quickly look for him and contract him to fix d remaining comatose ones...
A govt who hasn't sense like the Nigerian case, never will.
PatrickOkunima: Truth be told, the only thing that'll save Nigeria is if a cure is found on time. Otherwise, Nigeria is doomed. We're the most stupid and unserious nation on earth.
babaolofin: Ruling the country is not by force. He is an accountant and held various positions in Mobil Oil before he retired. He knows finance and management thoroughly.
Dude is really smart, but true intent is everything.
Nigerian Citizens must be too dumb to know when their leaders are doing what is right for nation or not. The sluggish old man president must be dragged before he can be palpably and visibly involved in such emergencies as COVID-19, and come engage the people he fought so hard to come govern.
Real leaders don't waste time to resign once they fail, unlike ours, grandpa Buhari who keep failing, keeps lying and pretending and refusing to give way for better hands to step in and save the day. They will rather die on seat, playing politics with grave national issues as the present than toe the path of their much touted honor/integrity.
PHIPEX: This is the kind of clear direction we should have been hearing from Buhari
And some empty heads busy worshipping the failing FG want to make us believe it is rocket science to be able to identify an active government when you see one.
Learn to move on. Events have long gone past that. Dude has made much more positive impact than many who detest him for a past error. If Jona performed we wouldn't have been here you know.
Who takes such pathetic liars seriously. At a time if national emergency our leaders still think it cool playing childish hide and seek. Nigeria, how unlucky always lacking capable hands in positions of authority.
LabDNA: But why does it forever for Nigerians to the right thing? Why do Nigerians love procastinating instead proactively doing the right thing. Zimbabwe shut their borders without even recording a single case.
Maybe Nigerians need to die in their millions before they can become sensible. It is a natural law that species emerge sensible and more sophisticated after going through a near-extinction experience. Nigerians may learn the hard way. Maybe it's time to pay back for all your donkey years of being stupid despite being blessed with enviable natural resources.
You have angered God and nature over many years, he has come to collect his debt. It's time to pay up, with your lives ofcourse.
Needless asking, our leaders are irredeemably corrupt. Ignorance of the masses isn't helping either.
This is Nigeria, it is normal to see such abnormalities happen in Nigeria and heavens will not fall even when you think it will. Poor Sanusi having a taste of what it feels like to be humiliated like his former boss GEJ. His staying away is just a way to protest.
Hundreddegrees: Smh Nigerians, we have not seen the usefulness of this present government that hasn't stayed up to a year and some persons are already planning on acquiring power in 2023, no plans on how to deliver campaign promises and improve governance, my brother this country is a lost cause
CliffordAde: While I accept that Buhari is a big disappointment, is this Buhari's fault also? We as individuals need to begin to clearly direct our criticisms to the right quarters.
Something that is serious enough, capable of being a national emergency, the president still is not supposed to be personally accountable and involved, but if it finally gets well contained he might deserve credits for such achievement? Well many have countless times described Nigeria a sh*t hole, maybe needless bother, that is what it is after all.
Coronavirus: Nigerians Condemn Government For Lack Of Adequate Screening
Nigerians react to the first case of Corona virus (CORVID-19) recorded in Lagos Nigeria.
Most people condemns then Nigerian Government for lack of adequate screening and proper preparation.
That is their area of strength. Always good at cheap lies, propaganda, and doing nothing tangible when it's most needed, and pretending to be doing everything necessary. Completely disinterested in general good of the people.
luluman: And one lie Mohammed just said they were fully prepared. What is wrong with our country now.
Nothing new. Whatever Nigerian government says especially in anything serious, first critique, investigate, and verify before you believe or you will be very sorry for yourself.
Nothing new. Nigerian government and leadership are known for laxity, talking tough and doing nothing, failing to prepare (preparing to fail), having no value for human lives, having misplaced priorities, leaving everything to luck and chance while lying and claiming that they are taking full responsibility. The faintest of things you would imagine they will man up to, you will be shocked at the level carefree attitude they have. Believe Nigerian government at your own peril.
