SMUAG: I got your points here, but the way I see it, it's a failure for a cbm to do that kind of number when the whole movie industry and fans are crazy about cbm. THEIR GOLDEN AGE O! And we shouldn't also forget that Shazam was suppose to benefit from his older fan base. Some of us here might say it did well, but let that same movie were to be from Zack and it grossed same amount then we will know what is called VAWULENCE!!! Every single soul will over night become a keyboard warrior....telling us why the movie is a FAILURE.... It was released in the middle of 2 films that had insane promotion, you got to look at it from the perspective of how many people will be ready to spend money they don't have on 2 or 3 different films at that point. Besides, ticket pricing of both matters, then there's how many showings. Now, let's look at it in this football aspect, there's a UCL final between Chelsea and Man United, that same day, Europa final holds between Arsenal and Man City. And that very evening, there's El clasico (this time Messi and CR7 are still in their former clubs) which do you think will be the main attraction? And would you say one failed if it didn't do huge numbers on match ticket sales or audiences when you know the charges for UCL final and Europa are higher than a weekly la liga match? |

SMUAG: 350m+ for a DC movie in her golden age when even there was no covid-19 then to hamper its box office numbers... You fail to realize Shazam didn't have that big a promotion. And no A Lister. It had a budget of 100 million. It didn't bomb. Besides, Shazam wasn't that famous a character any more. It released in the middle of avengers and brie Larson. And brie Larson bombed if we are to be honest. Fake tickets and stuff. |

abduleez1: I thought I was the Snyder hater. And who said I wanted a shift from dark and gritty? I said diversity not having almost all the announced DCEU movies look MCU. It's still early days tho.
HBOMax got the dark and gritty projects. Theatrical DCEU is the one falling outta line. If dark and light are balanced no problems. The Batman, Zatanna and Constantine is a step in the right direction. I never said you were a Snyder hater. Did I? You were the one who mentioned being a 'fan' . Are you sure it's not a new opinion you are bringing cause you all Snyder fans were rooting for Geoff John's style... |

johnyace: I think the reason why people are shocked that TSS underperformed at the B.O was the hype around it, the movie was hyped by critics as one of the best CBM's while it's not even close.
To me it's just an average movie so the B.O performance is not shocking to me, the movie couldn't even outperform mortal Kombat on HBO max goes to prove covid is not the only factor, it's an average movie although it's way better than mortal Kombat ( probably cause of it's larger budget for both production and marketing).
Blaming the underperformance on SS 2016 is laughable because one of the movies major marketing strategies was that Gunn was given creative freedom to do whatever he wants to with the movie. But I still believe that TSS will perform moderately well at the box office. Piracy is also a huge issue.
PS. I enjoyed the movie though. Just my 2 cents on the matter. My point exactly. TSs wasn't anything special. Entertaining not special. After watching, it won't leave you asking deep questions about specific scenes. Those things allow for repeated viewings. But I don't see it as a failure, just the hype and pressure. Knowing WB, they will start getting jittery now, lol. |

abduleez1: Some people go just like to open mouth waaa and spill any nonsense that comes into mind just for arguments sake.
How do you separate a movies performance from its sequel/prequel or spin-off when they've some connection. Or you think even if your movie made billions and audiences hated it, they'll come for more in the sequels. Or you will tell me the useless 90's Batman and Robin didn't affect the perception of Batman Begins. Isn't after the rave critical acclaim from Batman Begins and WOM that Raised audience anticipation for TDK. Or someone will tell me many people will be as highly anticipated to come watch the new Ghostbusters movie after the reboot disappointed audiences massively. Pray tell About the Terminator movies?
At times I wonder whether some people here even read movie review & data analysis at all or Hollywood op-ed pieces. Na just opinionated bullcrap without facts for backup. It didn't. In 2005, CBMs didn't make that big bucks like now. Besides, the fact Batman has been over done was one factor, coupled with it being an origin story. Bros, your argument doesn't stand in alot of ways cause there have been films that were critically acclaimed that it's sequel underperformed financially even while having critical praise. And also there were films that have been bad that still generate big bucks time and again. Transformers. Besides, Superman returns didn't affect MOS box office did it? Or did Justice league affect Aquaman? Yes, there are instances where it affects but not when the film has critics praising it. |

abduleez1: It also plays a role doesn't mean it's the sole reason. Maybe if you take a look at this article you'll grasp what I'm saying.
I no get strength for all this back and forth. Anyone can write that article. Just as I can write 100 reasons why black widow failed. The main reason is the HBO Max release and the covid 19 pandemic. It's been established that the film was stepping away from what WB gave us at first, so it's major point for audience to come out and see it, unless they didn't have to as they can watch it from home. The R rating is another factor why families won't go see it together especially during this time. Gunn SS had everything going for it, Ayer SS can't be blamed. Besides it didn't fail. The previous one was leggy. So there is still time for it to pull the money you are expecting |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 10:44pm On Aug 10, 2021 |
Nickshrapnel: The movie performed below expectations even when COVID has been considered. It is barely a week since it's release. Give it time. And to be honest, it wasn't the second coming so stop putting too much pressure on it. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 10:41pm On Aug 10, 2021 |
abduleez1: Despite its poor BO performance it sure delivers massively in HBOMax. Reinforces the notion that more sat out at home to watch it, hence damaging it's BO. And you say David Ayer SS had a thing to do with it failing. Judging by that stance people wouldn't have bothered watching na. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 10:39pm On Aug 10, 2021 |
abduleez1: Yep, a good win. Sure. If it can do -45% or lesser this weekend, then it'll be very good for it.
LMFAO...which Kain fear you dey fear. Next year slate has movies which all look sure hits. The Batman is a banger, Black Adam got the star power and audience buzz, Flash is kinda 50/50 but will deliver (also don't underate the pent up demand for years by fans), Aquaman is a crowd puller already and Momoa's star power and appeal. Na more big casts remain. 2022 lineup is too strong. We need the good WOM to rub off on other movies from BOP to TSS.
WB can't surrender Their major grosser when there's no Harry potter or LOTR.
It's only 2023 slate I'm bothered about sef. Cos the movies being greenlit and announced are mainly small and limited audience popularity. Na DC Fandome go clear our eye. Abeg when you dey talk of word of mouth no involve birds of prey. Cause you like the film doesn't mean everyone did. Alot of people hated it, Americans are just being politically correct cause it carried with it feminism. If you want birds of prey to be seen as the face of the dceu then don't expect much success with the franchise. |

spotty232: i think that word reboot is the problem of DC . movie goers are tired of the reboots, one keeps watching same story told in another way. It wasn't a reboot. I keep saying WB are bad at publicity. And marketing. It was in no way a reboot. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 10:33pm On Aug 10, 2021 |
Nickshrapnel: TSS is a win for WB, they’d take this massive critical performance over financial(I still believe the movie will pick up, maybe with good word of mouth). But my fear is if next year’s slate also underperform, we might be saying goodbyes to theatrical release and WB in turn focus on making movies straight to HBOmax. The movie isn't failing financially. Guy we are no longer in the era of 1billion dollar gross. Don't forget it is available everywhere online. Who would want to go to the cinema? Especially with a virus out there. Wake up. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 10:30pm On Aug 10, 2021 |
abduleez1: I also chose to ignore Hulk's comments.
No matter how you look at it, the 2016 movie definitely also has influence on it. Same way early DC movies affects confidence and anticipation for present DC movies. This quasi soft reboot/sequel shares it's Name and also some characters.
Obviously, we aren't talking pre-covid numbers. It's pandemic performance most sensible peeps are looking now. GvK did well in BO despite HBOMax and peak pandemic infections. Same as Conjuring and A Quiet Place 2. BW ain't performing as expected but it fares better Box office wise.
There's a lot running against this movie. It's marketing and production costs also doesn't help. Hope you know that movie had a leggy run? It didn't just make a huge bucks then drop the following weeks. It had no effect. What would you say of fast and furious? Or films that are critically acclaimed only to have their sequels be underperformers financially. David Ayer SS had nothing to do with this considering this one had a "" rating according to you guys. 3 things made it to underperform, which ironically it isn't. The contemporary time. Online release and the R rating. It's a hit on streaming, so quit all those nonsense talk of underperforming. |

abduleez1: Many things.. the appalling 2016 movie didn't help either. Some still connect both together. Only DC fans and we'll informed film lovers know more. It has nothing to do with the 2016 movie. Which movie in this time performs high like pre covid 19 era? I didn't want to answer the question considering it came from hulk616. People aren't going to the cinema like that. Black widow didn't do much, what can we say about that one? You guys give so much relevance to stupid questions. E get why I been no want talk. |

Skseries: lol is that not her super power? Person sha talk say him super power is that he is rich, beside is there anyone else that can control rat aside her and her dad? Abeg leave me o, me I sha enjoyed the movie. Be looking for plot hole there They could have just collected the device and given it to a deranged criminal. You don't get it. The suicide squad consist of irredeemable miscreants, that was what Waller said in part 1. Criminals so dangerous to society that having them in task force X is like a penance to society, cause the intent is for them to die with their death not being wasteful. It makes no sense for a petty criminal to be enlisted. She wasn't dangerous to society. She was just an immigrant. suicide squad aren't a superhero group, it's not a community service they are rendering. It's like they are on death row, shey you get. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by Minemrys(op): 3:11pm On Aug 09, 2021 |
Skseries: but she threatened she will put bloodsport's daughter in same prison for just stealing a wrist watch meaning doesn't matter the level of crime it's all about what Amanda or rather who she wants in there with her, so I don't think it's a plot hole That one is different. My point is, there was no reason for someone like ratcatcher to be in the squad. Usually it's deranged and dangerous criminals. Waller was using Bloodsport daughter as leverage, but the point is, ratcatcher shouldn't be in the team. There is a hole there. |

GRIMMJOE: I'm not arguing, I'm telling you how a good story works, every action must have an impact.
In a good story every character should be treated equally, we all knew Harley Queen wasn't going to die, that's call bad writing.
And if she dies Joker will come for who did it, a series of impact full consequence will play out which counter's your point of them being expandable and irrelevant.
Harley Queens death. . . Full of consequence Random Character death. . . Nothing happens
Each character should be treated equally, else, the story becomes predictable.

You want a major character death? How about Rick Flag? I hope you know Harley isn't with Joker any more? It was explained in birds of prey with everyone coming after her. It's funny how I am the monkey in clothes here. Rick Flag dying changes the narrative in a sequel. You can't kill Harley cause she's a main character in the dceu now, like how MCU didn't kill Loki or Stark in civil war. |
