ayenny02: According to three out of the four versions of the Gospel present in the Christian Bible, it is said that whilst Jesus was on the way to be crucified, the soldiers escorting him stopped a certain Jewish man who happened to be passing by named Simon of Cyrene, and made him carry the cross for Jesus.

Now, read carefully the account given in the Gospel of Matthew [Matthew 27:31-37] and note that the text actually implies the crucifixion of Simon of Cyrene and not Jesus (all Biblical quotes in this article are from the King James translation):

31: And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32: And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
33: And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
34: They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35: And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36: And sitting down they watched him there;
37: And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Notice that in verse 32, Simon of Cyrene is referred to, and that in all of the verses following it up to verse 37, Jesus' name is not mentioned, there is only "him" and "he". Thus implying that the word "him" in verse 35 refers to Simon of Cyrene, and not to Jesus.

The fact that they wrote a sign above his head claiming him to be Jesus only indicates that this was what they thought.

And see Mark's similar account [Mark 15:20-26]:

20: And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
21: And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
22: And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23: And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24: And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
25: And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26: And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

These two accounts clearly imply the likelihood that Simon of Cyrene was the one crucified instead of Jesus. However, due to the belief that later came to prevail among the Christians regarding the crucifixion of Jesus, along with the confusion that they must have had in reconciling all of the contradictory accounts, it is likely that much of the other content of those gospels regarding events afterwards was doctored and distorted.

36 One man ran off and soaked a sponge in vinegar, put it on a stick, and held it up for Jesus to drink, calling out, “Let him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come and take him down!”

Where was Jesus when Simon was carrying HIS (Jesus')cross ?
The soldiers who compelled Simon to carry the cross on behalf of Jesus,were they the same soldiers that escorted them Jesus and simon to the place of the skull and they never knew they were supposed to maintain statusquo by returning the cross to the rightful owner ?
Could it be that immediately the cross was taken from Christ the saviour and given to Simon the passerby and Jesus the Christ took to his heels or disappeared into thin air ?
May be the soldiers had a plan with Jesus just to whip or beat HIM up in front of the mammoth aggressive crowed and have or help him escape ?
Ayeni,may be i should just conclude that the same aggressive crowed who were screaming ''crucify HIM,crucify HIM'' later had a change of mind on their way to golgota in pity of Jesus and had Simon the 'innocent' passerby crucified instead of Jesus ! Should we follow the believe of our 'muslim brothers'that said God made the people to see the face of Christ on the cross or it could be that it was Judas one of Judas'disciple that was crucified !

If Christians attempt to dismiss these verses as not applying to believers anymore, or that this"God"changed his mind and no longer endorses violent purges of heathens, then this God endorses and establishes ethics based on situation.
And for those many Christians who think Jesus is God, then the God of the Old Testament is Jesus.
Attempting to distance Jesus from these smite and slay instructions of the Old Testament is a dishonest ploy.
The New Testament also makes it clear that there will be plenty of blood and killing under the rule of Jesus the Lord as part of the new world order that he will impose on earth
The glorious kingdom of Jesus will be ushered in through violence and death.
In an orgy of death, Jesus himself will smite the nations with a sword and will rule them with a rod of iron.

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Andout of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron:and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
These destructive actions are part of the great"dinner"party that Jesus will hold.

ﻓﺎﻋﺘﺪﻭﺍ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺑﻤﺜﻞ ﻣﺎ ﺍﻋﺘﺪﻯ ﻋﻠﻴﻜﻢ ﻭﺍﺗﻘﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﺍﻋﻠﻤﻮﺍ
ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻣﻊ ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻘﻴﻦ
“Fight in the cause of Allah those who
fight you, but do not transgress limits;
for Allah loves not transgressors. And
kill them wherever ye catch them, and
turn them out from where they have
turned you out; for tumult and
oppression are worse than slaughter;
but fight them not at the Sacred
Mosque, unless they (first) fight you
there; but if they fight you, kill them.
Such is the reward of those who reject
faith. But if they cease, Allah is Oft-
Forgiving, Most Merciful. And fight
them on until there is no more tumult or
oppression, and there prevail justice
and faith in Allah; but if they cease, let
there be no hostility except to those
who practice oppression. The prohibited
month, for the prohibited month, and so
for all things prohibited, there is the law
of equality. If then any one transgresses
the prohibition against you, transgress
ye likewise against him. But fear Allah,
and know that Allah is with those who
restrain themselves.” (al-Baqarah
2:190-194
Allah (swt) also said :
“They but wish that ye should reject
Faith, as they do, and thus be on the
same footing (as they): so take not
friends from their ranks until they flee
in the way of Allah (from what is
forbidden). But if they turn renegades,
seize them and slay them wherever ye
find them; and (in any case) take no
friends or helpers from their ranks.
Except those who join a group between
whom and you there is a treaty (Of
peace), or those who approach you with
hearts restraining them from fighting
you as well as fighting their own people.
If Allah had pleased, He could have
given them power over you, and they
would have fought you: therefore if they
withdraw from you but fight you not,
and (instead) send you (guarantees of)
peace, then Allah hath opened no way
for you (to war against them). Others
you will find that wish to gain your
confidence as well as that of their
people: every time they are sent back to
temptation, they succumb thereto; if
they withdraw not from you nor give
you (guarantees) of peace besides
restraining their hands, seize them and
slay them wherever ye get them; in their
case We have provided you with a clear
argument against them. (Al-Nisa’
4:89-91)
Now tell me honestly, do these verses give a
free permission to kill any one any where?
These verses were revealed by Allah to
Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allah Ta’ala Alaihi
Wa Salam) at the time when Muslims were
attacked by the non-Muslims of Makkah on a
regular basis. They were frightening the
Muslim community of Madinah. One may say
using the contemporary jargon that there
were constant terrorist attacks on Madinah
and in this situation Muslims were given
permission to fight back the “terrorist”.
These verses are not a permission for
“terrorism” but they are a warning against
the “terrorists.” But even in these warnings
you can see how much restraint and care is
emphasized.
It is important that we study the religious
texts in their proper context. When these
texts are not read in their proper textual and
historical contexts they are manipulated and
distorted. It is true that some Muslims
manipulate these verses for their own goals.
But this is not only with Islamic texts, it is
also true with the texts of other religions. I
can quote dozens of verses from the Bible
which seem very violent, if taken out from
their historical context. These Biblical texts
have been used by many violent Jewish and
Christian groups. Crusaders used them
against Muslims and Jews. Nazis used them
against Jews. Recently Serbian Christians
used them against Bosnian Muslims. Zionists
are using them regularly against
Palestinians.
Let me mention just a few verses from the
Old Testament and New Testament and tell
me what do you say about them:
“When the LORD your God brings you
into the land where you are entering to
possess it, and clears away many
nations before you, the Hittites and the
Girgashites and the Amorites and the
Canaanites and the Perizzites and the
Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations
greater and stronger than you. And
when the LORD your God delivers them
before you and you defeat them, then
you shall utterly destroy them. You shall
make no covenant with them and show
no favor to them. (Deutronomy 7:1-2)
“When you approach a city to fight
against it, you shall offer it terms of
peace. If it agrees to make peace with
you and opens to you, then all the
people who are found in it shall become
your forced labor and shall serve you.
However, if it does not make peace with
you, but makes war against you, then
you shall besiege it. When the LORD
your God gives it into your hand, you
shall strike all the men in it with the
edge of the sword. Only the women and
the children and the animals and all that
is in the city, all its spoil, you shall take
as booty for yourself; and you shall use
the spoil of your enemies which the
LORD your God has given you… Only in
the cities of these peoples that the
LORD your God is giving you as an
inheritance, you shall not leave alive
anything that breathes (Deutronomy
20:10-17)
Now therefore, kill every male among
the little ones, and kill every woman
who has known man intimately. But all
the girls who have not known man
intimately, sparefor yourselves.
(Numbers 31:17-18)
Even in the New Testament we read the
following statement attributed to Jesus
saying to his disciples:
“I tell you that to everyone who has,
more shall be given, but from the one
who does not have, even what he does
have shall be taken away. But these
enemies of mine, who did not want me
to reign over them, bring them here and
slay them in my presence. (Luke
19:26-27)
So you see my dear brother, you don't just pick up a text from the quran and attack the muslims with it out of context. Please learn more about a religion before you go asking google for verses of war in the quran. May Allah guide you to the right path. Ameen

I'm a christian and by HIS grace a follower of Jesus not a follower of the old testament laws.God changed everything when HE sent forth HIS only begotten son Jesus to come die for you and I ! If am to follow all those laws regarding killing as given or instructed then by God,you will not be alive to type today.Thank God for HIS son Jesus who took away those things and made it possible for me to live peacefully today even though some does not want me to exist side by side with them claiming their religion never permitted it.
You quoted a scripture in the new testament lUKE 19:26-27 to back up ur claim that God still supports killing for a just cause. I tell you it's a big error ! That was only a parable.If you are a christian or one who studies the holy bible you will find out that Jesus spoke to his disciples with parables most of the time.It takes those who are spirit filled to understand the revelations in those parables.If Jesus meant we should kill anyone for any reason or even for the most genuine cause then it will mean HE contradicted HIMSELF in all over the new covenant teachings. See below what Christ means in that parable:
Jesus’ parable about the nobleman who went away into a far county, and left silver pieces to ten slaves. One of them was unfaithful, and didn’t invest the money to earn more. From this unfaithful servant, the nobleman takes even the one silver piece that he has and gives it to another.
Then Jesus concludes the parable with this lesson: If you don’t want me to be king over you, then come here and die in front of me.
What is Jesus talking about? The answer lies just a few verses later, when we realize this parable has been a lead-in to Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. As Jesus tops the Mount of Olives and looks down on Jerusalem, he weeps over what is to be their fate:
As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace–but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” –verses 41-44. This will be the faith of those who do not know of the salvation brought by Jesus !
This, of course, happened 40 years later in the war of 67-70 CE when the Romans overran Jerusalem. In Luke’s parable, Jesus is looking ahead to the destruction of Jerusalem and warning his listeners that if they cannot accept him as king, they will soon be slaughtered by their enemies which will not be by HIS making even though HE is aware !

jes7: Fasting is not the issue here, but fasting because you are marking Christ death. You don't need to be sober or fast on Easter as a religious obligation. Repent from you sins, stop doing evil not just on Easter but everyday of your life. If you are living a righteous life you don't have to be sober or sad on Easter but rejoice that Christ died for our sins and has taken away the guilt and punishment for our sins.But if you are still in your sins, commemorating Easter will worthless, useless and meaningless because as long as you are still a sinner, the purpose of Christ death has not been fulfilled in your life!
