pokipoki:Iranian hostage crisis. One of the best known. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis_negotiations There are several others but I won't be doing your homework for you. The internet is a great resource, a simple search will show that I'm right and that this childish belief that governments don't negotiate with terrorists to be stupid. |
PointZerom:The president doesn't change the facts. All nations negotiate with terrorists and hostage takes. They say otherwise because the average voter is a simpleton who needs dogma to make themselves feel better. |
Ikem11:All nations negotiate with terrorists. They say otherwise because they know that immature, naive sheep will believe the lie that they never negotiate with terrorists. The Americans did so with the Iranian terrorists under Reagan and have done so consistently since. The French have been known to negotiate with terrorists. Likewise the British. We Should Negotiate With Terrorists. We Always Have. Who started “We don’t negotiate with terrorists”? The president who did just that more than any other. Let’s stop this reactionary nonsense. Every president since has said we don’t negotiate with terrorists. And every president has. And I would say prudently and reasonably so. When terrorists can give you information, for a certain price or because you have a shared enemy, take it. George W. Bush paid a ransom of $300,000 to a radical Islamist group in the Philippines that was holding two American missionaries, a married couple, captive. To get them to safety? I say, fine. Alas, however, the man was killed, even after we paid the money. So an American president ended up financing terrorist operations and overseeing a failed military mission. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/06/06/we-should-negotiate-with-terrorists-we-always-have |
Ikem11:Countries negotiate with terrorists all the time. We Do Negotiate With Terrorists Let’s stop pretending we don’t, and craft better U.S. policy to protect American hostages. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2015/05/negotiating_with_terrorists_let_s_stop_pretending_we_don_t_and_craft_better.html |
Boleyndynasty2:Most countries negotiate with terrorists and many pay ransoms. The French certainly do. The Americans have. The British do to. The all lie about it at the time but they do it and the truth usually comes out years later. It's a tool of last resort but it happens all the time. |
Gravas:We need to rid ourselves of the influence of the majority of the civil war era as well as the cowardly generation that came immediately after them who should have purged Nigeria of the civil war group from the political arena in the 1980s/1990s but did not. |
kelvinreality:They never had confidence in him. He does not have functioning economic or fiscal policy. He does not have a working educational policy or social policy. The people who backed him are enemies of progress and enemies of Nigeria. |
Again, I ask - if the north is so wonderful, if northern leaders are so capable then why do they not form their own country rather than allow themselves to be handicapped by the south? Why don't they form their Arewa Islamic Republic and leave the south in peace? |
abbeylincon23:Not true. American women are busy throwing divorce parties after capturing half of the man's assets. |
deji15:The governors are part of the problem. They are a part of the apparatus that makes legitimate business in Nigeria so difficult. |
That's disgusting. |
What is a 'charm'? A robber was caught. Your silly superstitions should be kept out of the story. |
TrueSenator:He didn't do anything. What are you talking about? The man lied about his health in order to grasp power and then caused a constitutional crisis because he refused to be honest about his plight. And to cap it off his wife was busy collecting bribes. The man is not to be celebrated - he was a slightly more intelligent version of Buhari. |
Buhari doesn't just hate Igbos, he hates Nigeria and Nigerians. When he was campaigning he kept running to London. Now that he's president he's still running to London. He gives most of his most important interviews in London, to the foreign press. He ignores Nigerian journalists. His hypocrisy knows no bounds. I remember prior to his election he was saying how it is wrong to send children to foreign schools, universities and to patronize foreign hospitals. Look at him now - where is he today? Where did his children go to university? When CNN asked him about the policy that made it difficult to pay school fees abroad and why he should be different his retort was - "I can afford it". With what money? His cattle business has been that successful? His wife is making that much money cleaning cuticles? He has done nothing to suggest that he cares about Nigeria/Nigerians. Even the northerners who voted for him en masse - he has ignored their plight. He has ignored the slaughtering going on in southern Kaduna. So it isn't just Igbos that he has no regard for, it's Nigeria as a whole. |
oganoble:I wasn't even talking about Nigeria when I was talking about the workers in Qatar. Most of the workers there are from the Indian subcontinent. You completely missed the point of my post. |
Partnerbiz:Not giving birth to a child is not 'suffering'. There are thousands of children that they could have adopted if they wanted a child to love. |
I wonder if he will pay the people responsible for the fire in the same way that he paid the people who murdered innocent people in southern Kaduna. |
kolafolabi:Nigeria isn't oil rich, 2 million barrels per day for 180 million people is nothing. These people aren't doing anything special. They are overpaying consultants and architects and then underpaying immigrant construction workers to work very long hours in the desert heat to make all this. That is how they're able to do things so quickly without the threat of strikes or any other stoppages. If you think about striking they imprison you and send you home and get someone else from your impoverished country/village to do the same work. |
wristbangle:And that is what is important - it is in the south where the basic materials are processed. It is in the south that value is added. SW or SE - I don't care. I have been comfortable in both places. I don't have to worry about Sharia law in the SW or the SE. I don't have to worry about Boko Haram in the SE or the SW. I know that the people are about their daily grind in both places and are not comfortable leaving their children to beg. And that is why I don't have any problems with Igbos, Yorubas, Ijaws or whoever. They are not the ones killing indiscriminately and pretending it is not genocide. We cannot continue to attack each other in the south over petty differences when northerners are allowing their minions to kill and governors are rewarding them with money. |
wristbangle:The level of agriculture that they engage in is minimal considering that Nigeria continues to import basic food items. If the wealthy people of that region engaged in real, heavy duty agriculture then I would understand your point. As it is the many deficiencies of the North far outway any positives by way of their tepid agricultural industry. P.S. I don't see the SE aligning with the North, even if they offer a VP slot. The cultural/ideological difference is too vast. Easterners are too driven by financial independence and self-sufficiency to find common cause with people driven by a desire to maintain a feudalistic hold on their society. |
wristbangle:There may be petty differences but the fact is that all groups in the south would be happy if the north tried to secede. What does the south benefit from this mess? There are regular problems between northerners and the south west - from monarchs being kidnapped; to the vice president being disrespected; to the northern cabals who stand in the way of progressive policies. |
If northerners are so concerned with southerners in positions of responsibility why then don't they go their own way and create their Arewa Islamic Republic and leave the rest of us alone. I can guarantee you that if the northerners said that they wanted to leave today there would be people from Lagos to Calabar protesting in favor of their secession. The people would self declare a national holiday. Millions of goats and cows would be slaughtered in villages all over southern Nigeria. |
Omagago:The fine that the NCC imposed was based upon the number of breaches as agreed upon by all the telecommunications companies in Nigeria. Why was it only MTN who were so recalcitrant? Could it be because they believed they were too big to abide by the law? |
Lagos should declare independence from |
nurshah:They taunt the poor but when the poor people see them they grovel at their feet. Both groups are complicit in the charade, let them both stay as they are. |
Why is this front page? |
Make the useless mother face the same fate. Same for all the people who keep fighting against birth control education and family planning measures. |
amolak:They're repainting zebra crossings, that means they've been in existence and not something novel. And there are always drives to enforce road laws and road safety protocol. It's not particular to Nigeria but even if it was this is a good campaign. |
bkool7:It's his stock (singular). |
RealLordZeus:It is foolish to try and judge a man by his 'intentions' because no one can read minds. We can only judge him by his actions and his actions show him to be a simple minded or incredibly inconsiderate hypocrite. Prior to elections he was making noise about how wrong it is for Nigerian politicians to seek medical care abroad; how wasteful it is to maintain so many private planes for the presidency and how silly it is to spend money educating children abroad. But look at him now. |
It's not about muslims or xtians. They don't care about any of you. And your religious leaders care about you even less. |
There's no scarcity in State Housing or Marina. Stop lying. This entire article is probably a lie. |
