IPob will fail. Me? I'm not 'IPOB' but I understand why they want what they want. They want their own country, they're not asking anyone for anything but the right to self-determinatio. They're not asking for money. As to the 1 trillion on damages - how much money is being spent on reconstruction in the north east to repair self-inflicted damage? |

Divide the country politically but completely weaken the FG so that it does not matter where the president is from. Simple question - has Nigeria ever moved forward under a northern president? Why should the rest of the country be subjected to the kind of awful leadership that has made the north such a disgrace? |

Nonsense! No more juicy position for igbos like it was under GEJ. Everyone to your tent now As if Igbos are the only greedy people in Nigeria? Why do idiots keep repeating that nonsense? Was Abacha Igbo? Is OBJ Igbo? And what 'juicy positions' are you speaking of? And why should a community care about one person in a position of authority? Surely the smart thing should be for a call for greater regional/state autonomy and absolute control of resources? |

Opakan2: I get your point quite clear.. but the money flow to states wasn't there
GEJ and his pdp goons cornered monies meant for over 150 million Nigerians.. At a point when oil was selling high, we were borrowing, salaries weren't paid. Nigeria was practically at a stand still It's so sad such a thing still happen in this age and time. God rest them We shouldn't be talking about oil in a nation with 180 million that is producing 2 million barrels per day. That is not enough to build a nation. What we should be asking is why other parts of the country are not producing anything to match the income that comes from that resource. Oil is not the only means of making money, nor is it the only resource at Nigeria's disposal. As to your claim that Nigeria was at a stand still, that is completely untrue. The parts of the country that are progressive were upgrading their infrastructure and had plans to do more. |

Opakan2: GEJ stole the money they could have used to fix the high tension pole.. he is to blame He is a blood sucking demon It's a long way down from president to people on the outskirts of Calabar who decided to illegally construct a shack to watch football. They shouldn't have built such a shabby structure. This has nothing to do with GEJ. There are plenty of reputable, safely built structures in which one can watch football, especially in Calabar, on Marian Road alone there are at least 4 venues where one can watch football safely. This place should be bulldozed as should the other illicit venues that have been erected with no regard for safety. |

back2sender: The adverse poverty and suffering in Nigeria today is caused by looting of the country during GeJ tenure. He turned a blind eye to the massive looting taking place and i see this as a strategy to cripple the incoming government and make it difficult for the government to jump start the economy. Massive Money was stolen from the system and hidden in graves, houses, soakway, water tank etc rather than been spent in the system to oil the economy. NIGERIA WILL HAVE BETTER MANAGED THE RECESSION IF WE HAD SAVINGS (LOOTED FUNDS) DESPITE THE FALLING CRUDE OIL PRICES OUR ONLY MEANS OF REVENUE. What are you talking about? It was under GEJ that favored ministers were sacked because they were caught up in so-called 'scandals'. Meanwhile OBJ who served two terms in office is busy spending millions of dollars on a library and no one is batting an eyelid. No one asks how he financed his farm. No one asks what happened to the billions of dollars supposedly spent on resolving the electricity issue, rather it's GEJ that you want to talk about. If GEJ has a case to answer then let him answer it but let us deal with the biggest crooks. |

gbegemaster: A man complaining of being sexually harassed by a woman, should be apprehended and forced to change his gender.
I keep saying that before you start to understand a woman, she has already analyzed and placed you appropriately. She knows the type of men she can try those type of games with.
The simple solution is to man up. That is a simpleton's analysis. If a woman has a closer relationship with the superiors of that institution or establishment then she can/may use that to cause problems for that man at work. She may also lie and claim that it was the man who was pestering her. |

They are the most senior civil servants. And the most senior was requested to take over in Acting capacity. If he bypassed the most senior now, it will lead to another uproar. It still looks odd that a region with such a well documented problem with illiteracy has so many people in senior positions in the civil service. It simply makes no sense. |

In saner climes, officials of the disco firm, the football house and even those local govt would be behind bar by now.
But it is Nigeria. Anything goes. Why should the disco firm be prosecuted? It is the owner of the property who is responsible. And whoever did the electrical work. omohayek: There is a lot more to building a quality institution of higher education than simply erecting a few structures and inviting foreigners to come and teach in them - and that's even assuming the most qualified foreigners could be enticed to come to Nigeria in the first place (why would they, when they can work in much nicer places, where education is valued for its own sake?).
First you have to deal with the fact that Nigerian universities have been wrecked by the same issues that have weakened everything else run by the Nigerian government - petty and grand thieving of funds, subversion of objective standards of evaluation through demands for bribes (or "payment" through sex), the promotion of the less qualified ahead of their betters in the name of "federal character", or "man know man", etc. All of these things undermine the morale of both teachers and students, and the few remaining who are truly serious about teaching or studying are made to seem like fools through all the nonsense around them. Why work hard when all your mates are getting ahead by paying off their professors or sleeping with them, especially when your employment prospects won't be any better for it when you graduate?
Insisting that students should stay in Nigeria rather than going abroad makes as little sense as insisting that Nigerian expats come back home to work instead of working in America or Europe. No matter how hardworking and talented you may be as an individual, you still need the right environment to achieve your best, and that environment simply doesn't exist in Nigeria - and simply budgeting more money won't be enough to make it exist, not when the negative mindsets and perverse incentives are allowed to remain intact. Then you hire the right people and ensure that there are checks and balances, a reward and deficit system based on being productive. You don't keep enriching others in the belief that you can shortcut development. 'It's not rocket science' as Fashola would have said pre-election. It was that way once before, we cannot continue to be defeatist and refuse to invest into our own institutions. Afterall, the private universities such as Covenant have been doing it. You talk about 'negative mindsets' but look at your post - you are a part of the problem. P.S. Where are these places where education is appreciated 'for its own sake'? |

Rett0: The point is they are provided with free schools, healthcare and welfare. But food is not free. Clothing is not free. Nappies are not free. Transport is not free. Their homes have to be heated in most of the western world - that is not free. They may or may not be eligible for subsidized housing, if both parents are in the home (and are physically able) they won't be eligible for free housing. The money that they get from the example that you gave is peanuts considering the real costs of living and raising a family. According to the link that you provided new parents in the UK receive a one off payment of £1000. That money will evaporate within a couple of weeks if you have one newborn, not to speak of five. |

Rett0: All assumptions.... Lots of our parents had multiples without any fertility enhancement... Let's learn to reason like learned people.... There's nothing strange here... Fertility drugs are pricey and I doubt they can afford it. Twins, not quintuplets and quadruplets. This is a completely unnatural chain of events. You don't find it odd how it happens in a society that places such an emphasis on new life whilst not taking care of those already in existence? Why is this not more common in societies with better regulated healthcare industries? Fertility drugs are not pricey, clomiphene is less than $40. There are probably others that are even cheaper. |
Family › Re: Unemployed Man Welcomes Quintuplets In Abuja (Photos) by mmsen: 2:25pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
Rett0: Not true. Get your facts. Doesn't apply to responsible persons with degrees. I'm 100% sure when I'm talking about multiple assistance. Especially a special case like this. You said responsible but this is not responsible. Misusing fertility treatment is not a sign of responsible behavior. And a degree is not a sign of being responsible - there are lots of single mothers in the western world who either have degrees or are getting degrees. All this despite the fact that children raised in single mother households are invariably at a social-economic disadvantage. What is it that you're sure on? |
