If there are not many (in some partn of the country) it is because some people prefer to send their daughters off to be violated by Senator Yerima ond his pals than allow their daughters to have an education that might allow them to flourish.

even after marriage?
Never.

Remember how our forefathers did it? A compound with many domiciles (and many wives).

When necessary you visit each wife but none occupy your own personal space.

I'm not one for polygamy (one wife is trouble enough) but separate living quarters is a smart move.

These are matters of criminality, which is why we have a criminal justice system.

If we have the executive behaving as the judiciary then why do we need a judiciary?

How is the judiciary going to act in an impartial manner if the executive keep interfering and making prejudicial statements.

If the executive wishes to eradicate corrupt habits maybe it should be begin with its own conduct. Strengthen institutions so that they might stand on their own merits and allow them to act for the betterment of the people.

They haven't probed anyone - they keep making announcements without announcing results.

The question I've been asking is what happened to the judicial system? Why do they not make use of it? Or fix it if is broken?

Why do they appear to have no regard for the separation of powers?

Anyone is free to believe what they want. The question is why he considered Nigeria a fertile ground. With the kind of irresponsible and weak leadership this country has had over the last few years, it's no surprise that he would consider it a safe haven. The Lebanese who were caught with arms in Abuja some years ago haven't been heard of since.
They went to trial, Tahal Roda was sentenced to life in prison.

You can hand your money over to a thief.

You can hear lies of how 'satan' and not a poor diet and a lack of sleep caused someone's father to die of a stroke.

You can hear more lies of how 'god' blessed a young lady with a new job - she forgets to tell the congregation what he had to do to earn the job.

You get to meet ashawo. Churches are full of them.

Banks are not run to benefit the majority - the banking system itself is a means of keeping the majority in debt.

The fact that more individuals, companies and parastatals are in debt is good for the bottom line of a bank.

I saw a documentary some years ago , can't remember the name, but it was about roads built in America in the 1920's or so that are still in perfect conditions today. Upshot is, roads can last long. Roads built in Nigeria are deliberately substandard for the purpose of generating contractors money, climate has little to do with it.

I haven't a clue about road building so don't laugh when i suggest maybe we should construct our roads using steel sheets. Expensive in the short term but money saving long term. Just think, roadside sellers would be able to roast yam and plantain on the surface for free and dogs and madmen would think twice before scampering across roads causing nuisance. grin
Surely it depends on which part of America - there are roads in California that are atrocious and have been as long for as I can remember.

I know that some roads have been built to last - the road from Accra to Tema that was built in Nkrumah's time from is still in excellent condition but that is not the norm, anywhere.

Maybe it is the contractors deliberate actions or their oversight but most roads wherever you go struggle to be road worthy over a period of years because of usage or climate.

Having said all that, there's no reason why this particular road should be falling apart so soon.

Politics › Memo To Northern Nigerian Youths by mmsen(op): 12:32pm On Aug 13, 2015
It is your responsibility to make our office-bearers and spiritual leaders to be responsible and accountable. The angels didn’t do it for Nelson Mandela and wouldn’t for you. Stand up to be counted for the right reasons and there is no better time than now especially as Nigeria is presently encircled with the mantra of ‘change.’

I am in a wonderland and find it hard to understand why you have chosen to take the back seat when burning national issues present themselves.

How else can I explain the quietude displayed by you even in the face of dire consequences starring you eye-ball-to-eye-ball?

These issues are legion. Politics and religious tenets do not mix but you have aided the political classes today to work with religious schisms to pull the youths apart.

Why fall for these ruses? A man who chooses to use religion as a path to seeking elective office is a demagogue with nothing to offer. How many countries in the world succeed today by interpreting religious precepts over and above democratic principles or even the constitution of the country?

It is inappropriate for you to be comfortable with leaders whose aim is to enslave you in perpetuity. Such leaders care more about the welfare of cronies than yours and send these yes men out of the country for religious pursuits at the expense of the development of state.

What you need are leaders that can secure your future and that of your progenies and not mortgage it.

Unlike your forebears, who appreciated the impact of ‘people power,’ today’s elected executives fritter your commonwealth on issues not related to development and they are not denounced.

They ask you to work with an austere regimen but dole out monies frivolously to associates, buy up most of the properties in Abuja and I am left to wonder if there would be any property left for you to buy in Abuja at an appropriate time.

Why celebrate administrators that cannot be credited with completing meaningful projects? They leave the states massively in debt and run to Abuja when their tours of duty are over.

Like most youths elsewhere, why do you enjoy working with typecasts shoved down your throats for decades by people who say, “hate the other side”. You have worked with the charge surprisingly well. But how long are you going to work with such prejudices and stereotypes that pit one region of the country against another?

Education is useless if it does not impact positively on the lives of millions of uneducated, ignorant youths who are teetering on hopelessness and poverty.

Seek education enthusiastically; ensure your children attend schools and give the girl child an equal an opportunity for learning and development as the male child. Do not discriminate against children due to accidents of birth. Only small-minded people do so.

When will you finally ask the elected, why are we so poor? Why are our youths known for begging? Why are these young boys in every major Nigerian city homeless?

You wield a lot of power and can effect a positive change for the development of this country.

Think about it again; at ages compared to your northern forebears ( some of you are even older now) they seized the moment to become nationalists but why have you kowtowed to intolerant politicians and some religious leaders whose mission is to pull this nation apart?

Life has always been grim for the rural dwellers and today it is also greyer for the city dwellers with no supply of portable clean drinking water by government.

Where then is the dole of democracy and why make the work of elected officials easy by not demanding accountability on issues impacting on your welfare?

We need not recount the dangers of VVF caused by early marriages (child bride). How many of the rich give away their daughters at that age? They do not, because they secure the future of the girl child before marriage. Why should you – when they do not?

Why don’t you raise awareness against the unwholesome practices where our girl-children are now abandoned due to being burdens and have become a menace to society?

The North owns almost all Nigeria as they control the food aspect of the country. Food itself is life (at least to the belly).

I read on a thread days back on how someone was asking what the North produce. I think he has his answers now.

God bless Nigeria.
Nigeria imports the majority of its food.

The north could produce a lot more and feed the entire continent, sadly it does not.

Why is a region so blessed with resources also one of the most regressive and impoverished parts of the continent?

It's what they could be producing that is amazing.

They could generate enough solar energy to power industry - but don't.

They could irrigate their lands and feed the entire continent with the arable land that they occupy - but do not.

They could empower their people with reasonable finance to grow their businesses - but do not.
