obibankz:APC supporters love all the old crooks who have been robbing the nation blind for 16 years, yet claim that it is the PDP that we should all be wary of. No one has been as crooked as Tinubu in Nigerian politics yet there are people rallying behind him claiming to want to fight corruption. El-Rufai has been implicated in a number of corrupt deals yet he has won an election as an APC candidate. |
Having sex may lead to pregnancy or and STI. Taking communion doesn't mean anything. |
Glad to see people in Nigeria holding crooked leaders to account instead of killing their fellow powerless citizens. |
Flautist:There are millions of buildings in Nigeria that do not collapse every day. There are buildings that collapse in Europe, especially eastern Europe as well as north America. We need to ensure that those who engage in poor practices are rooted out and held to account. |
ozo13:Isn't this the same guy who was giving plots of prime Abuja real-estate to his relatives or was that a different El-Rufai? |
So now your god is worried about thought crimes? Unconscious thoughts at that. How pitiful. |
Bluffly:I like how you guys butcher the English language . |
It's a bit late for this message - most of the northern politicians have already defected. If they wish to have a bonafide party they should state their principles, goals and plan of action. At the moment they look like another cabal of thieves. |
CR77:Africa is 'home'. They did the right thing. |
Bluffly:"Your head they there for been factual" What language is that? What does that mean? |
It would be nice if he is shown to be genuine. My fear is that many of these words and promises will come back to bite him - much like his claim that "an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North". |
arewafederation:Corruption was worse before. Transparency international says that corruption has subsided to the point that Nigeria has moved far from the bottom of the table where it once was (136/175 instead of 175/175). To say otherwise is to lie. As a result investor confidence in Nigeria has grown since 1999. Developments in Nigeria, coincidentally, are more numerous than they were previously. The quality of projects is greater than they were previously, the roads are being built to a higher standard and the scourge of open drains is no longer as acceptable as it was previously. States like AKS and Cross River have put a stop to the culture of taking shortcuts for petty financial gain. From what Nigeria was in 1999 and what it is today is quite a big difference. The bad habits are still there in many places but they will fade as the people become more away of what to expect. The military era ruined this country, Abacha and Babangida in particular but Buhari also played his part - slowly but surely there are people working to put things back in order. There have always been people in Nigeria pushing for progress in Nigeria, visionaries with great ideas and drive who sought the best, sadly those people have often been sidelined for retrogrades who fear positivity and self-sufficiency. Now that the military cabal are out of the way we are seeing states develop themselves, Cross River and AKS have led the charge ensuring that their citizens are educated, safe and have access to decent healthcare and other facilities that will improve quality of life. Lagos state has also been hard at work. Let us see the other states do likewise. |
Stegomiah:What is the girl's father's name? |
norjyte:I have no doubt that 12 billion figure has been inflated somewhat but you cannot compare construction products in a delta region with those in the Sahel. The topography is entirely different and the the challenges are greater in building on marshy land than on dry arid land where the issues are minimal, therefore the cost will always be greater. The rainfall in the south is heavy and thus the cost of maintenance will be greater and the threat of erosion means that there needs to be a more considered process when building in the south. When you take that into account and factor in the reality that Kano is a major metropolitan area that should be rivaling Lagos then you will come to realize that an underpass may look pretty but it is only a start. As to all these people being sent abroad to study - that is not something new, people in the south have been doing this for over 100 years. It isn't something to be proud nor is it productive in the long run, it is a drain on resources that could be better spent - I hope plans have been put in place to build well funded local institutions. |
esosuo:When do northerners ever speak out against their governors? Even the people in the north east who have been left to rot, hence the rise of Boko Haram, have refused to say anything negative about their local officials. They find it easier to blame the Federal government instead of those that routinely waste their allocation. |
QuotaSystem:NDDC is a scam. They don't do much and what they do is often built to a low standard. I do not know who controls that enterprise but when I compare what they have built to what is built by the Cross River and AKS governments it is shocking. |
QuotaSystem:Are you sure? I expect more riots when he comes back from his European tour and tells the people that they have to accept gay marriage, practice responsible breeding habits by way of family planning and stop marrying children in the manner of Senator Yerima. I don't see them accepting what is to come very well, at all. |
QuotaSystem:The North is for peace? Come on. A brief look at Nigerian history will tell you that is not true. Murderous riots since the amalgamation. Rioting because southerners called for self-governance. Rioting because someone made a comment about a Miss World competition. Rioting because Buhari lost an election. You can't tell such brazen lies in the internet era. |
GboyegaD:We're only 16 years into this experiment so it's no surprise but you make a good point. |
Reminds me of a brief discussion I had with a Muslim gentleman who tried to convince me that there was nothing before allah just as there is nothing before zero. I pointed out that there are minus numbers and then walked away and went on about my business. If these religious groups wish to evangelize they should employ more intelligent people. |
0GBUEFI:What 'frivolities'? You mean a world class road network? Proper underground drainage? Upgrading the universities? Upgrading the schools? Building a world class hospital to draw medical tourists from the within the country and stop Nigerians traveling to India (of all places) - is that 'frivolous'? Creating amenities for people to enjoy in AKS when they come on business? Is that frivolous? Do you know what 'frivolous' means? Uyo is essentially a new town - 15 years ago it was a village, today it has infrastructure on par with Abuja and Calabar. Kano is an ancient trading city with a huge population but is only recently getting its act together. I'm glad to see progress anywhere in Nigeria, AKS is probably the most improved state in the past 8 years and is not the state to be attacking - what has been built there has been done to the highest standard. No shortcuts have been taken. |
astana1:What 'agenda'? I asked questions. Why did you avoid my questions? Who are these people that you speak of? |
ziccoit:Which people? Name names? Don't throw cheap subliminal shots. P.S. Is it not the state's responsibility to raise educational standards - why is Kano state still fairing so poorly? |
stonecoldcafe:Cameroon is not in Ecowas. |
johnydon22:Everyone, except those of us who have the good sense to see that much of the Bible is complete nonsense, should be ignored. Those amongst us who insist upon hiding behind religion instead of embracing the intelligence that we are all born with should be condemned for two reasons - firstly for the gross hypocrisy in failing to adhere to the majority of the laws written in the Bible and secondly for being intellectual cowards. |
johnydon22:So by his words they are ALL lying hypocrites to be ignored. If xtians should not engage in usury, or eat shellfish, or grow two different crops on their land or wear clothing with two different materials (Lev 19:19) then they should all be condemned. Matthew 5:17 - 20: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. |
Rilwayne001:So not only is it not possible to discuss Islam but now we can't even discuss the forum? What is the point of a forum with only one accepted opinion? P.S. If you read my post properly you will see that I made a suggestion that aids the quest of the Muslims on this message board to keep their discussions segregated, which seems to be their/your desire. |
bigt2:A bicycle, often called a BIKE or cycle, is a human-powered, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. A bicycle rider is called a cyclist, or bicyclist. Educate yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle |
Today was the first time that I made an attempt to respond to a thread in the special section for Muslims. If they do not wish to have open discussion then maybe their threads should be exempt from the front-page, afterall that is the only reason why I tried to contribute. |
Divorce. Why tolerate a lifetime of misery? |
Cursing people? Is he a witch? Does it not say that "we should not suffer a witch to live" somewhere in that great book that claims to preach from? |
pansophist:There are men who treat their wives like princesses and those women turn around and disrespect the man and the marriage. What we have to accept is that people who are damaged in childhood are unlikely to be changed as adults. Some men think that they can better these women by marrying them, such thinking is naive. |
