For almost four months we weren't that close as we used to. I noticed some changes ever since I went to Ghana for Summer. I noticed she is desperate to talk and make peace, but I keep my distance carefully. Funny enough, she knows all my properties and investments in Naija are in the name of our children. Am now using silence to treat her Bleep ups. I vow never to exchange words with her or behave irrationally cos I will lose. I keep my game close to my chest. Culture › Worshipping Of Deities Causing Damage To Yoruba Culture – Iwo Monarch by Morbeta11(op): 3:29pm On Oct 31, 2023 |
Worshipping of deities causing damage to Yoruba culture – Iwo monarch
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has disclosed that worshipping idols is tarnishing the rich culture and tradition of the Yoruba people.
According to Oba Akanbi, the Yoruba have one of the best ways of life, adding that the language could be adopted in the tertiary institutions to teach courses for the advancement of the larger society.
The Oluwo made this known in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in his palace in Iwoland, Osun State.
“Firstly, worshipping deities the way it is done in Africa is not about love. Worshipping of deities is actually deteriorating, causing a lot of damage to our rich culture and tradition. We can do this culture and tradition beautifully without worshipping deities,” Oba Akanbi said.
“We have a very rich and quality tradition, and our language is the best. But we haven’t moved. Do you know that we have not moved? Even these people that we’re talking about; the Chinese, the Russians, the Germans, the English, do all their courses and advance their education in their own languages.
“Even the Ethiopians are using their own language and I wonder why we haven’t moved. We don’t move because we have so many superstitions. Superstitions are limits and they limit us as humans. They are pegging our greatness so as saying that your forefathers are the only ones that are specially chosen. What are you, then? Are we not supposed to be greater than them?”
The Royal Father posited that many people are running away from traditional institutions because of the superstitions that kings are involved in diabolical. He added that it is the duty of the kings to sensitise people.
He decried that the majority of kings usually threaten their subjects with deities, making it difficult to rule their kingdoms successfully.
He said, “And it is my job as a king of the people that is close to the people. It’s not the job of the government. It is the job of a king to sensitise and change the mindsets and remove all the scare tactics. All we want to do is talk about voodoo that does bad, a voodoo that will kill you.
“We are the ones that have gods that kill. Ogun a pa e (Ogun, the iron diety will kill); Sango a pa e (Sango, the thunder deity will kill). What kind of father is that? All should be removed from our day-to-day life. The fear tactics are not to be about love to the people.
“If people are running away from the king’s palace, what are they running away from? They’re running away from culture. They are running away from a rotten culture, but our culture and tradition are beautiful and we should showcase them to the bigger world.
“People are running away from everything that is hostile to their daily living, and this is not what makes us a Yoruba people. And that is the problem of this clime. You will see the way I dress now, today, believe me, the way I react, I display with so much splendour is the reality of our culture. The culture is not to threaten or curse or use deities to scare people.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/10/worshipping-of-deities-causing-damage-to-yoruba-culture-iwo-monarch/

Tinubu said some persons who were not authorised had access to the council chamber of the State House.
Speaking before the commencement of the FEC meeting on Monday at the presidential villa, the president said he noticed that some people were sneaking in and out of the council chamber.
“Last week, I noticed people sneaking in and out of this council. People had access to this place when they should not. That is not acceptable,” Tinubu said.
“I will announce to you here, people who are supposed to be here.
“Hadiza Usman, special adviser on policy coordination, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, principal private secretary and Damilotun Aderemi, private secretary.
“These are the people who are granted the exception to be here when we are conducting the business of the nation. Unless I send for you, don’t come.”
The president asked George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), and Folashade Yemi-Esan, head of service of the federation, to ensure that the directive was complied with.
The weekly FEC meeting which is presided over by the president is attended by cabinet members and his top aides.

Over 80 bodies recovered around Umuchieze Cattle Market in Abia: Governor Otti
Mr Otti said the government would neither condone nor get involved in supporting insecurity in any form or manner.
Abia state governor, Alex Otti Governor Alex Otti of Abia says security intelligence showed that the ransoms paid for kidnapped victims were always dropped off around the Umuchieze Cattle Market in Lokpanta of Umunneochi Local Government Area (LGA).
Mr Otti, during the monthly media parley at the Government House, Umuahia, said this was discovered after several electronic equipment were installed in different parts of the state.
“A few weeks ago, we found that a lot of the ransom that was paid for kidnapping ended up somewhere around Umunneochi LGA.
“We decided to dominate the place, and what we saw was shocking. In less than 48 hours, we recovered over 80 dead bodies around the cattle market, and we recovered 20 headless bodies decomposing bodies, which include adults and children.
“We recovered uncountable skeletons of people who had been killed and left to decompose still around that axis,” he said.
The governor expressed the resolve of the state government to rid Abia of all forms of crime because ”no government succeeds in the face of insecurity.”
He said the government would neither condone nor get involved in supporting insecurity in any form or manner.
Mr Otti also said different forms of crime, such as gun running, prostitution, narcotics trade and heavy use of substances, were highly operational in the cattle market.
He said investigations were ongoing to ascertain the people involved in the crime, adding that this informed the decision of the state government to change the cattle market into a general market.
He said the state government had taken a step to secure the market by fencing it and issuing a directive to be a non-residential daily market, which would open from 6:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.
Mr Otti said in line with the government’s directives, the market would no longer be exclusively for selling cattle, but it would operate as a general market where other items would be sold.
“Now, some persons said that we had sent away the Hausa community living in Abia, but remember, when we saw the skeletons, we did not know which skeletons belonged to either Hausa or Yoruba.
“The spread of the false information led to a northern group issuing a quit notice to Igbo living in the North to leave and come back to the East,” he stated.
The governor explained that a meeting was held with the group, during which explanations were given about the government’s intention.
“We challenged them that anybody that is not in support of what we are doing must be a criminal, then they saw reason with us and reversed themselves,” he added. (NAN) https://gazettengr.com/over-80-bodies-recovered-around-umuchieze-cattle-market-in-abia-governor-otti/

Travel › Indonesia Conducts First Commercial Flight Using Palm Oil-blended Jet Fuel by Morbeta11(op): 7:18am On Oct 30, 2023 |
Indonesia conducts first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel
Indonesia on Friday flew its first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel, as the world’s biggest producer of the commodity pushes for wider use of biofuels to cut fuel imports.
Operated by flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, the Boeing 737-800NG aircraft carried more than 100 passengers from the capital Jakarta to Surakarta city about 550 kilometres (342 miles) away, Garuda Indonesia CEO Irfan Setiaputra said.
“We will discuss further with Pertamina, Energy Ministry and other parties to ensure this fuel is commercially reasonable,” Irfan said during a ceremony, adding the plane was set to return to Jakarta later on Friday.
Garuda conducted several tests including a flight test on the new fuel earlier this month and an engine ground test in August.
According to Reuters, the palm-oil blended jet fuel is produced by Indonesian state energy firm PT Pertamina (PERTM.UL) at its Cilacap refinery, using hydroprocessed esters and fatty acid (HEFA) technology and is made of refined bleached deodorized palm kernel oil.
Pertamina has said the palm-based fuel emits less atmosphere warming greenhouse gases compared with fossil fuels, and palm oil producing countries have called for the edible oil to be included in feedstock for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), Reuters reports.
“In 2021, Pertamina successfully produced 2.0 SAF in its Cilacap unit using co-processing technology and was made of refined bleached deodorized palm kernel oil with production capacity 1,350 kilolitres per day,” said Alfian Nasution, a director at Pertamina.
Meanwhile, Harris Yahya, a director at the Energy Ministry, said the use of biofuel would lower the greenhouse effect.
The aviation industry, a major emitter of greenhouse gases, is looking for ways to cut its carbon footprint by using alternative fuels.
Experts say the industry will need 450 billion litres of SAF a year by 2050, if the fuel is to account for around 65% of the mitigation needed to achieve net-zero targets https://businessday.ng/news/article/indonesia-conducts-first-commercial-flight-using-palm-oil-blended-jet-fuel/

Why Army established its university – COAS
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Saturday, explained that the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno state was established as a means to explore a non-kinetic approach in the service operations against insurgency.
He also said the institution was established to achieve social inclusion, gender balance and expand diversity through education.
A statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said the Army Chief clarified the first convocation of the institution.
The COAS who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the institution disclosed that by establishing the Nigerian Army University Biu, the Army adopted the strategic option of exploring a non-kinetic approach to its counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria.
“He clarified that the Army sought to achieve social inclusion, and gender balance and expand diversity through education,” the statement read.
Lagbaja also said the emergence and growth of the institution in the heart of the North East was a testament to the successes the Nigerian military have collectively achieved in the counter-insurgency efforts.
He said, “Today, the graduands are a testament to our bravery, courage, and determination, despite the security challenges, to groom youths that would become solution providers and self-reliant in addressing some of the challenges of our dear nation”.
The Army Chief, however, said a total of 417 students graduated from the school.
