Obrafour: Bros I beg stop exagerrating, your WAEC grade that helped you gained admission to KNUST yesterday will not help you/someone gain admission to the same institution today or tomorrow. Inorder to meet limited vacancy challenges, the grading system is raised higher. In such a case does it make sense to re-write your WAEC just to be in an elite school?Mr. Obrafour What is Baptist University Colleges ranking in the world? What of in Africa?! or West Africa?! Of even in Ghana? Thats how you know Universities that are not yet up to par. Thats why they have to hide under bigger Universities like KNUST & Legon to award degrees in the name of affiliation. Maybe in another 20 years they would be better than they are now, but why would any serious student use his education to play ludo when he can just go to any of the already recognized and established schools? This is a no brainer. |

Okay!! So because the roof is leaking, that makes all the other works put into the Airport null & void.. I have been around too long to know when someone is out to get me. I wish you could read it again and think from another direction and you will surely understand it better.Half baked universities ful Ghana I tried posting the Total number of universities in Ghana and the Nairaland Spambot banned me. check them out; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_Ghana I attended Kwameh Nkrumah University of Science and Tech. Its not 'Half Baked' in any way shape or form. Someone who attended Ghana Baptist University College and me no be mate. That school is not even sitting on up to 1.5 polt of land. My post was very clear so I am really perplexed as to how you can be confused by it. Half Baked is the adjective I used to qualify the useless schools. And yeah! If a Graduate from a Half baked University aces a test ahead of a graduate from a good school, then its either that student cheated to pass or the standard of the school has fallen way way low. |

In that 13 year period, I have graduated from a foreign University with a degree in Geological Engineering, Passed several accreditation courses, worked for 1 small construction company abroad, worked for one small company in Nigeria and I am currently one of the Lead Engineers on a project of a Major Oil and Gas company. I am currently doing my MSc in Oil & Gas Management online and I am also married (and would soon ba a father). I have a very solid income and I am nowhere near being a riff raff or a tout. I drink alcohol (socially) and smoke the chronic almost everyday. Now, take it from me when I tell you that hemp did not do that to Mr. Majek. Crack Cocaine and Meth are what does that to a person. Even Mushrooms would not do that to a person. I am not saying you should smoke, I am just saying that someone who drinks Codine to get high and other chemically altered and manufactured drugs are the ones who suffer from such. Hemp is now even being legalized in many countries including the U.S, Canada & Amsterdam. 2 Likes |

knowledge4: Maybe if you had read the OP's post with a little more understanding, you would have realized that what he was attacking wasnt JAMB, but the kind of half-baked universities that our Nigerian Students attend abroad all in the name of going to a University.Well Said.. In truth, 95% of Nigerian Public Universities are shyte. Lets call a Spade by its real name. Institutions with broken down facilities, no equipments, poor learning aid, very little hands on experience for students, dissatisfied lecturers and University staff and poor financing. Thats a recipe for disaster. Thats said, I have seen students who graduated from these institutions who can hold their own (although most times theoritically) when thrown into the midst with other graduates from foreign universities. Infact, some even trample their foriegn trained counterparts in written tests. These class on Nigerian graduates are the ones I place under 'Super freak' category. These students would have blossomed even better if they were trained by properly run Univeristies abroad where the education is not just theoritical, but also very practical. I remember my first class in school in Ghana, Geomorphology.. The Lecturer was teaching when a student asked him a question that threw the class into a little debate. The teacher just excused himself for about 15minutes, when he returned, we were all marched into one of the schools bus and taken on a short field trip to see a live example of what he was teaching us. That process alone blew me away. How he was able to requisition a Bus under such short notice was amazing. And all through my university days, we kept having several trips like that. As a geological engineering Student, I have visted underground gold mines in Obuasi (Ghana), been to several open pit gold and Manganese mines in Tarkwa (Iduapriem, Goldfields & Ghana Manganese Mine).. This experience alone is priceless. I have also been to the local underground mines (popularly called Galamse mines) in Tarkwa as well. Everything was prepped for them there. How many Nigerian Petroleum Engineering Students or Geology Students or any other Oil & Gas related student has been to an onshore location or offshore as part of their field trip?! What about an active exploration site?! What about Labs?! In Ghana, I saw every equipment that was taught to me in class live in the Lab. As students, we use to carry out real soil tests for companies in Ghana. Though I later realized that the tests we were doing were part of the Lectcurers contract with the company, but I was more than happy to get the experience. Same thing with soil sampling. Infact, one semester, that was our course. to carrying out soil sampling, assaying, bearing capacity tests, e.t.c.. Its not always about the class of degree. Like my lecturer would say, some students can cram an entire textbook and handout and re-copying it for you when you want, some others learn with their eyes (by what they see), others with their hands (by practice) whilst the rest you need to make it all look like movie (to stimulate that minds) otherwise its all white noise.. So in Nigerian Universities, if you are not the naturally gifted student that can learn how to swim in the dessert, then you are screwed. The education system in Nigeria needs real help. Whilst we are salvaging the Tertiary institutions, we should also look at the technical institutions as well. Thats why I keep wondering why people celebrate Free University Education when the Universities are as goos as shyte. Rather than for people to be focusing on who passed JAMB, we should be focused on what quality of education did they acquire.. 2 Likes |

So because you suffered through JAMB and graduated with a Second Class Upper does not make you any better than the guy who didnt write JAMB but school in the U.K or the US and graduated with the same degree from a University that has a world ranking 1000 time + higher than your Nigerian JAMB university. If a Foreign Graduate gets a Job ahead of you a local graduate, its simply because he aced the test set by the recruiting agency, not because he didnt write JAMB. You are so focused on JAMB that you have forgotten that the degree that you graduate from school with and the Knowledge you acquire from your Tertiary education has got ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the standardized test you wrote in order to gain admission. Stop focusing on something as irrelevant as JAMB. Focus on the quality of education you acquire in the University. I wrote JAMB and JAMB never released my test scores because they messed up my application. I waited yet another year and went through the registration process yet again only for JAMB to mess up my application again. I dumped the useless examination. I have never had cause to write any external examination twice in my life. I aced my WAEC and my SATs.. My folks couldnt afford the tuition in the West so they sent me to Ghana where I got an education. If you must focus on JAMB, focus on the flaws associated with JAMB. JAMB is part of the problem with our education system in Nigeria. Over 60% of Nigerian graduates did not graduate with a degree from the course that they filled out in their JAMB forms, rather JAMB tells them you are not brilliant enough to read your chosen course, so indirectly forces them to go read alternative courses that they had no interest in at all. I'm sorry but you sound like one of the reasons why parents bend back triple time to send their kids abroad to get educated. DONT HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME.. If you know that a minor is in your house and does not enjoy the exact same priviledges like your own kids which includes; the love and attention that your kids get, the same free time and play time that your kids get, the same school and after school care that your kids get, then I suggest you hire an adult maid and pay them the agreed wages. Anything short of the above is simply enslavement. I say so because if you are not giving them the same opportuinity that your kids are getting, you are only grooming them to continually be slaves even to your own kids in the future. |

Majek Fashek I grew up listening to send down the rain at birthday parties and ceremonies. It was even believed by some that his song had majic powers to actually make rain fall. He was nicknamed 'The Rainmaker'. Beautiful young man who was filled with talent. A chart topper. To the likes of other local Reggea musicians like Ras Kimono & Oritz Wiliki, he was the height to attain. He headlined shows in the U.S and Europe. A true rasta man. That said, I'm sorry to annouce that this legendary Rasta decided to walk in the path of the Babylonians. He left the herb and embraced the rock. Weed did not do this to Majek, Cigarettes did not do this to Majek either, crack cocaine and meth was what ruined him. Today, he is a shadow of his former self. He is even said to have some mental issues as it stands. I am very open to contributing my fair share to rehabilitate Majek. If for no other reason, I'm ready to help as a form of showing appreciation for the joy and happiness his music brought to a certain generation which I belong to. However, to help a crack addict, the last thing anybody wants to do is throw more money at him. Majek needs to recognize that he needs help and ask for it. He needs to check himself into a proper rehab clinic. I would have loved to send him off to the U.S where there are specialist clinics for rehabilitating druggies, but I doubt the U.S embassy would grant a druggie access into the United States without government backing gand assurance that he would not abscond and go back to drugs (which is readily available in the U.S). I would love nothing more than to see this legend rise again from the ashes back into the limelight. Maybe even drop 1 more hit album and do a last world tour before dropping the guitar (hopefully to chants of encore from the audience). I would love to see you walk into a concert looking clean and fresh to chants of 'send down the rain'. We love you Majek. deols: That is the problem with Lording over the wife. The day that she decides that it is enough, the man loses his power and prestige.Sometimes, life is not as straight forward as it appears. I have a friend that I forsee a break-up in their marriage in the not too distant future. Infact, when once she puts to bed, I see her calling off the marriage. The guy has abused, beaten and rubbished her as best as he can. I got wind of certain bits and pieces of their story and all I can say is that the guy has issues. However, because of the guys attitude, the wife has also stopped even trying to be the peace maker that she initially was. Now its a matter of whatever. They both live in the same house but he does not talk to his pregnant wife. He calls his pregnant wife a LovePeddler. Throws a tantrum, breaks things and smashes stuff near and around her (because he cant hit her now that she is heavily pregnant). I would have had a chat with him, but all I want to do now is hire thugs to whoop his as|s because if his wife were my sister, I would have hurt him really bad. Marriage is not an easy matter. It takes 90% work, endurance and perserverance and 10% love to keep a marriage together. 3 Likes |
