kingbang: Oh, now its the church and not Peter Obi again? Confused APC buttlicker.I have always blamed the church.. No Church in Nigeria pays any attention to safety.. Its only a matter of time before Redeemed and all these mega churches experience similar. Was it not a few years back that 14 people dies at Reinhard Bonnke crusade in Nigeria?! Churches are just happy to see a crowd of people.. Thats all that matters. |
I wonder how the People blaming Peter Obi would be feeling right now... Freecocoa... I dey greet you o!! ![]() |

Phder: Apologetic behaviour? Comprehension deficiency? I guess you don't know the meaning of those words. Go back and read your comment that was quoted. You said "Nigeria colleges can't admit the total number of student writing WAEC every year, hence they introduced UTME to reduce the number of eligible candidates" And I said you're wrong, citing US as an example, that despite having thousands of tertiary institutions, applicants are also expected to write a standardized test.Erm!! But isnt WAEC|NECO|& GCE Nigerias own version of the American SAT? |

blink182: And the subject of this story goes to church/mosque. The wickedness in this country is too much.My P.A was driving me home after work and spotted a Range ROver Sport in fornt of us and said; This woman asked me to get her a house girl that she would be paying 8,000 naira a month.. I almost choked. He went on to say that she worked in Mobil and her husband also had a good job. Now I immediately did the maths in thy head. thats approximately 250 Naira a day for her upkeep. No school, no phones, no nothing. Thats slavery my guy. The only solution to this is for the FG to set up a 'snitch' programme where people can call in annoymously and report such abuse to the government. Many of these people wey get house help dey form ignorant. The employment laws of this country if fully enforced, many of these people will languish in jail for many years. They dont provide healthcare, compensation or anything for these maids and yet pay them way less than minimum wage. ![]() I blame it all on poverty & illiteracy.. |

Obrafour: MR Aboki, the School of Medical Sciences graduated its first batch of medical students on the 31st August, 2013. I guess at that time, they wanted to take advantage of them beign a state institution to get a preferential tratment from another state institution(National Accreditation Board), but they are not a fully fledged medical institution.I know that UCC has set their grading system higher than all other schools with a first class starting from an 80 CWA. I believe that UMaT also runs the same grading system. But this Medical school matter, I am certain of it. Someone else has even confirmed it here saying that it has been resolved. They didnt use fake degrees because the same O'levels was what they used in gaining admission abroad and today are all doctors. |
Nna men!! This is an atrocious act! WHy not just build a new monument for him.. Na everybody wey we go name University after?! |

Obrafour: First 0ff, there is nothing like a federal university in Ghana, we dont operate a federal system. UCC is not a mushroom institution to make a major blunder that will call for NAB(National Accreditation Board) to cancel that course. If it did happen please provide a verified source to back your claim.Obrafour Im talking about Medicine. My friends (3 of them) who were studying Medicine in University of Cape Coast had to leave for Europe after they found out that UCC's medical dept was not accredited. This was in 2004- 2005. I dont need you to validate my claims as I know this for a fact. Maybe they have fixed it now, but that was what it was then. Dont forget that UCC is the weakest link in the Chain of top Universities in Ghana. Plus, Federal or whatever, you get the point I was making. |

The truth is that the Government of Nigeria needs to look into the admission criteria for Nigerian Students into the University. I see no reason why the Government needs to set up multiple entrance examinations ranging from; WAEC to NECO to GCE to JAMB to Port-JAMB for a student when his counterparts in other West African countries are writing just WAEC and entering into school. These many examinations were neccessitated by the corruption that has eaten deep into the education system due to widespread examination malpractice. The fact that a student aces their JAMB test and yet have to put 3 different results (GCE|NECO & WAEC) together to attain the required 6 Credit necceasry to gain admission into the University does not make these students any better than those that got admission riding on the back of a single result. What applies in Ghana is that when once you ace your WAEC, you gain admission into the University and should you perform poorly in the University, you get expelled and have to go through the system again. Infact, once expelled, its really difficult to re-renter the University again. The problem with our education system isnt the fact that we have to owrite JAMB, the problem is that the foundation is already poor. Many of the half-baked graduates walking around today have JAMB results. To the Nigerians who run to those Mushroom Universities in Ghana to school, note that many of these schools dont have an accreditation for their courses. My friends who were in their third year in Univeristy of Cape Coast (which is a major federal Uni in Ghana) all had to drop out and go to europe because their course had no accreditation. Be wise.. |

carr101: Such a dumb topic!I dont think he is after the Nigerians that school in Ghana in general, he is attacking those that attend some rather shaddy mushroom Unis in Ghana which I am well aware of. The Number of Unis that sprung up in Ghana because of Nigerian Students are just too many to count. |
Akson man: Regularly we are inundated with fairy tale news about how wonderful Ghanaian universities are.Ask for that Backyard university matter in Ghana... ![]() Any Nigerian Graduate of Ghana that didnt attend the following schools; 1. 28 worshippers killed in Anambra stampedeon November 03, 2013 / in News 1:30 am / Comments By Vincent Ujumadu, Awka, Okonkwo Eze, Enyim Enyim, Onitsha NO fewer than 28 persons, who attended the weekly crusade at the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, lost their lives during a stampede at the end of the ceremony in the early hours of yesterday. The crusade, organized by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obinma for prayers, healing and spiritual retreat, attracts thousands of people, but the one that was held yesterday on the Feast of All Saints turned tragic. An estimated 100,000 worshippers reportedly attended the crusade because, besides coinciding with the Feast of All Saints, it was also the first Saturday of the month. Apart from the dead 25 whose bodies were said to have been deposited at Immaculate Heart Hospital and Maternity, Nkpor and Charles Borromew Hospital, Onitsha, several others, who sustained various degrees of injuries, are receiving treatment in various hospitals in Onitsha. *The Adoration Ground after the stampede. Governor Peter Obi, who attended the crusade in company of 10 persons, including the National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, the candidate of the party in the November 16 governorship election, Chief Willie Obiano, as well as two siblings of the governor, was said to have left the crusade ground around 3.30am, before the tragedy. Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report blamed the stampede on the governor. The report quoted eye witnesses as saying the stampede occurred when Obi started campaigning for his gubernatorial candidate and there were shouts of disapproval, causing his security aides to fire tear gas into the crowd. But Obi, who said, yesterday, that he was heart-broken by the event, said he went home after the crusade satisfied on the rewarding spiritual encounter, only to get the news later. He consoled all those affected one way or the other and said those responsible would be punished if found or God will punish them if not found. The governor said: “When the spiritual director gave me the opportunity to speak, I noticed something unusual as I saw people carrying the posters of politicians at the adoration ground. “I have been going for the crusade there and, on this occasion, I stayed for six hours and left. Our vehicles were parked two kilometres away and this is a place people have been visiting for a long time without any incident. “It was later that I heard what happened and we are working hard with security agencies to find out those behind the incident. A holy place should not be a place for playing politics.” At the time the stampede occurred, many worshippers said they thought the governor and his entourage were still at the crusade, not knowing that he and his entourage had left the area two hours earlier. An eye witness, Mr. Abuchi Ifebuzo, 31, told Sunday Vanguard at the premises of Crown Hospital, Nkpor where he and some of the injured persons were receiving treatment, that the crusade closed at about 5:08 am yesterday and, as the people were attempting to leave the ground, there was a stampede and people were falling on each other. According to him, trouble started shortly after the event, when some people started shouting “fire’ fire, fire,” adding that, in the confusion that ensued, the worshippers started scampering for safety and, in the process, began to fall on each other. Another eye witness at St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha, Chinenye Etinanma, who said he came to visit her sister who was equally a victim, said she escaped because they were the first set that encountered some people carrying the placards of politicians at the adoration ground. While some of the worshippers attributed what happened to sabotage, alleging that some people raised false alarm of fire, others believed it was an act of God as the people were already on their way out when the stampede happened. At the two morgues at Immaculate Heart Hospital and Borromew Hospital where the bodies were deposited, many people were seen wailing and crying uncontrollably following the loss of their dear ones. A woman, who refused to give her name, said her mother was among the dead, adding that her father died only two months ago. There were however some of the victims who were thought to have died, but regained consciousness later and were either driven home, or admitted into the hospital for further treatment. Following the development, Governor Obi cancelled all his engagements for yesterday. Some of the events he had planned for the day included a governorship campaign rally at Nsugbe, the home town of the governorship candidate of PDP, Chief Tony Nwoye, a live radio programme, flag- off of some road projects, inspection of on-going shopping mall at Onitsha and the on-going stadium at Awka. The governor was among the first group of persons to visit the scene of the incident and the various hospitals in company of two police Deputy Inspectors General, DIGs, visiting the state, Mr. Philemon Leha and Kachi Udoji, and the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Nassarawa. Sunday Vanguard could not speak with the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Centre, Obinma, as he was said to have gone to brief the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Valerian Okeke. Obinma was also said to have visited the wounded in hospital. Coordinator of the centre, Bro Achebe Nnadi, who was busy entertaining questions from people, said the problem was caused by a group of people who started shouting ‘fire, fire’ when there was none. Meantime, Obi has directed that the names of all the wounded persons be compiled, although he could not say immediately if the state government was going to pick their hospital bills. The governor also visited the Archbishop of Onitsha over the matter, although what they discussed was not made public. He also said that a panel of enquiry would be set up immediately to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the incident. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/28-worshippers-killed-anambra-stampede/ |
Orikinla: Many families in urban areas in Nigeria and other countries in the world have housemaids and houseboys and they are the popular domestic workers in many homes.Mr. Op Sir.. This is an issue that I have discussed extensively with many people. Now I grew up in a house that had more househelps than kids in it. We all sent them to school and they were treated as best as we could (without necessarily giving them the same treatment as we the children of the house got). I mean theyslept in the same rooms with us, ate from the same pot with us (infact served themselves as the liked as food was never inshort supply), e.t.c. Now heres where my probem begins; 1. Taking a minor in as a maid is one thing I do not suscribe to. I believe that every child should have the right to be a child. The right to go to school, return home to minor (moderate chores), rest, play, do homeworks, eat and sleep. Where a child is subjected to continous work with littel time for them to enjoy their childhood, that I object to. 2. Sending a maid to school is not good enough, the quality of that education also matters. I am very well aware of how deep and far the thoughts of parents go when it comes to the choice of school for their kids. Many maids (especially child maids) almost, always end up in Public schools where the education they get is a valueable as the non-polymer 20Naira of 1995. I remember one of our maids (distant cousin) that I went to pick from school one day on my way back from school. When I got into her school, she was the person in-charge of selling the ice-cream (frozen flavoured water) that the teacher was selling. That was when I took the liberty of going through her school books and realized that she had nothing in them. What kind of education is that?! 2.1 Extra Lessons and home tutoring. Who does these for these child maids?! I know that the english I speak & write today was not taught to me in school but at home by my mother. Who gives these child maids the after school care and tutoring that EVERY child needs?! Do they have any form of home schooling from either their Masters or a hired tutor?! Do their masters monitor their school works?! Who proof reads/checks their homeworks?! 3. The teenage maids normally are given the option of learning a craft. Now this is something I can suscribe to as I am a strong believer in technical education. However, many of these masters almost, always send them to learn these skills, trade and crafts at centres that are nothing to write home about. 4. Emotional care. Beyond school, how about the emotional aspect of these child maids?! Who do they run to when they have a cut on their hands?! Who comforts them when they cry like kids do?? Who basically caters to their emotional needs?! NOBODY!!!! Those child maids grow up faster than their masters kids. Thats why my take on maids are; 1. Never take in a minor or a teenager as a maid. 2. All maids must be paid a healthy wage and a bonus incentive added. 3. All maids must be over the age of 18. (Perferably 21 and above) 4. All maids must not be live-in maids. |
Gabbysky: IMHO N7 bil is even too small, they should have used N700Bil and let's see if heaven will fall.Hommie.. Insiders news:: Nigeria's oil will soon be as valuable as Garri in the market. The international global market is flooded with so much crude and little customers.. |
Ruchidera: I can't understand the rationale behind your rants?Okay!! Let me take your mind to a deeper place. Imagine that Night vigil with no Obi. Just a normal Night Vigil. It closes, and as people were exiting the venue, any of these happened; 1. Somebody shouts Snake 2. Somebody shouts Bomb 3. Somebody throws a fire cracker 4. Somebody just starts running What do you think would happen?! What we should be asking is; 1. Did the venue have proper crowd control measures in place? 2. Did the venue have enough exit points to accomodate the crowd that they had? 3. Were the members given any safety induction before the crusade started?! These are the things we take for granted in churches. I have attended a church that had over 5000 capacity seating, yet had only 6 doors that were not that big. What if a fire broke out?! What is there was an emergency that required them all to exit?! Why are safety inductions not given in Churches? Why are safety signs pointing towards the exit, designated muster points, e.t.c not ever displayed in churches and other religous places of worship? I think we as Nigerians should stop taking safety for granted. I am not going to take this political bait of throwing blames on people.. The blame lies squarely with the church. |
