At what point do we ask questions of the Director of Football Murtough (who has been part of the system since around 2013 by the way) and the Technical Director Fletcher (known more for his exquisite cone arrangements during training sessions).

Is there anything that can happen that will lead to questions being asked of those guys or do we keep blaming manager after manager for transfer mishaps?

It is a serious question.

It is not like ETH is blameless in the FDJ issue because he shoulders a large portion of the blame but what about the people meant to advice and support him? Those whose job it is to complete the deals?

Then what about all the other transfers?

A thousand percent agreed. They're blindly following the manager because they are incompetent. Even City and Liverpool haven't always delivered who Pepe and Klopp want but that's because they have sought out alternatives. Our useless directors don't have a clue so we're where we are now.

I like both of them.

I have been a big fan of Rabiot for years. I think his game would be good in a side that plays high tempo possession based football. However his personality and character (and that of his mother/agent) could cause huge problems in an already dysfunctional work place.

Rabiot is not a great trainer likely because of his natural gifts and being spoiled by his mother. There is a bit of indiscipline at play here.

He also believes he should be an 8 or even a 10 when he is more naturally suited to be a 6. This has caused problems in the past particularly at PSG.

Summary is that he is good but not as good as he thinks he is. However at this late point I wouldn’t mind Rabiot AND one out of FDJ, Neves, SMS, or Tielemans. Then we add a forward.

I don't like Tielemans. Yes he's better than McTominay but that's not a very high bar.

Gakpo has a touch of Rashford about him. And not in a good way.

We don't have a single good right winger. We don't have a single good central midfielder. We have been complaining about those 2 positions for about 3 years now yet we keep loading up on other positions where we have serviceable options.

Let us get a 1st team left footed right winger. Move Sancho to the left to compete with Rashford and Garnacho. Loan out Elanga. Sancho and Amad can deputize for the new RW. Sell Chong. Loan/Sell Pellistri.

We go into the season with new RW, Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, Amad.

A left footed winger coming in from the right should be our priority not another right footed left winger.

I mostly agree with you but I wouldnt mind upgrading that position since Sancho can still play on the right. We need to raise the base level quality of the squad and also if we can sort out the midfield and the structure of the team Sancho on the right will work.

The only good thing with Rabiot coming is that I'm sure his mother will be fighting with Maguire's family in the stands after calling them and Harry every derogatory name under the sun.

This is why I'm upset with ETH. I was willing to give him time but you cannot polish a turd. He is making a rod for his own back so I will watch him hang himself with his own rope with no pity.

ETH should be offering McTominay career change advice. Doesn't matter who replaces him on the pitch.

Eriksen'has definitely improved in the 1nd half. Bruno still invisible. Not sure my McTom is still pretending to be a footballer on the pitch.

Fred and McTom can't start for Brighton.

Caicedo is the best midfielder on the pitch by a long way. Completely dominant.

Eriksen' issue is not pressing but it's his passing which has actually been poor.

This is going well.

Midfield has lost composure in the last 5 mins before the goal.

We have passed that point of apportioning blame now. Whether it is the club's disastrous planning (nothing new) or ETH's naivety or cash limitations, at this point to salvage something out of nothing we should not sell Ronaldo BEFORE we start looking for a replacement (cos that replacement might never come).

That was the point i was making before you quoted me and started apportioning blame. That is not the issue i was addressing in my initial post.

It is when the club does not have Martial or 38 yr old Ronaldo but Rashford and 20yr old Elanga that people will calm down.

You people are talking like its so easy for these people to complete transfers. We have been struggling to sell players for months and our difficulty in buying players is well documented as well. A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. If the club is smart they should not sell Ronaldo until a replacement has been signed.

I dont understand your point. Are you agreeing with me? The point I'm making is that regardless of CR's status and Martial we should have identified and signed a striker even if CR didnt ask to leave. The fact we're facing this these issues starting the season is not really unforeseen but its pretty much self inflicted by the club's disastrous preparation for the new season.

Selling CRonaldo or not is not really the issue though. We've had a disastrous transfer window because the club should not have been in the position in the first place. Imagine putting our faith in Martial or a 38 year old Ronaldo.

Looks like Martial is injured and wont be fit for the match against Brighton.

I'm not sure that our preparation for this season could have been worse for ETH in terms of transfers, Ronaldo and now injuries.
