It was triangular HR had initially written

Your rod sizes and arrangements are ok for d lintel. But try to do square instead of triangle if u can. People do triangle, but i don't think it is standard practice.

Thanks so much bro. I appreciate your feedback.

Hi All,
Please anyone to assist with the sizes of iron in the picture below as it relates to the arrow colours. Also what is correct spacing between them.

I want to do a rough estimate of what I may likely require for concrete parapet.

Many thanks.

There is no difference in quality with respect to Gerard brand of roof tiles. Preference for a particular Gerard design is a fall out of individual choices. Moreover just that the Classic and Heritage (Bond) designs happens to be cheaper than other designs hence the preference but they are all same quality with 50years manufacturer warranty from AHI roofing of New Zealand that produces Gerard.

Thanks for the clarification.

2. Planks and wood related
3. Cement and other materials.

Will really appreciate it.

I would also appreciate if you can give the number of parapet curves in a 1 by 12 plank.

Thank you as I await feedback.

Many thanks for the feedback.

i am actually banking on wealth of experience and knowledge to assist on this below.

kindly assist with what you know based on your experience.

1. find out the area of plywood purchased ie L x B of plywood
2. find out the area of 1 curve to be gotten; note: its L x B meaning there wld be waste - most parapets wld be 450mm by 450mm
3. find out how many curves you would get from 1 plywood
4. The total number of curves you need for that parapet perimeter is = 109 numbers (@600mm c/c)
5. Find out how many plywoods would give you the required number.

i actually dont want to do pre-cast parapet as those i have seen for me is not encouraging.

saydfact:

Thanks for the compliments; well appreciated.

To your question on the parapet curve; the principle is:

1. find out the area of plywood purchased ie L x B of plywood
2. find out the area of 1 curve to be gotten; note: its L x B meaning there wld be waste - most parapets wld be 450mm by 450mm
3. find out how many curves you would get from 1 plywood
4. The total number of curves you need for that parapet perimeter is = 109 numbers (@600mm c/c)
5. Find out how many plywoods would give you the required number.

1by12 somi/white wood = You'll need about 50 numbers sliced accordingly.

You should need some 2x2 planks and Bamboo to support too -

The above does not include all the plants you need for scaffold ie for workers to stand on etc.

I prefer using precast parapets or polystyrene parapets majorly. (more affordable and lighter in weight)

CONCRETE = Cement + Fine Aggregate + Coarse Aggregate

Fine Aggregate = Sharp Sand or Stone dust

Coarse Aggregate = Granite, Gravel

As long as you have all 3 in the right combination; you're good to go.

Note: There are some very clean gravel (without sand content) s good as granite but it's scarce in Nigeria hence I'll advise you use Granite.

180k from foundation to lintel is a good deal - how where you able to achieve that?

Thanks Boss.

I had agreed this fee with the head labour before we commenced at all. I have paid 80k to this level and 100k is the balance to take the above foundation block setting.

@muyi002, 150mm to 1foot is too much for blinding that was why it consumed too much cement.
Labour for laterite filling is much,4K per trip is fine.4k x11=44k not 70k
By the way, did you engage an engineer or it was DIY?

Dear Segzy,
I honestly like you for what you are doing on this forum and topic.

I had engaged an engineer who advised at least 6 inches high is good for the blinding for a trench depth of 2feet (600mm).

As per the laterite, in terms of trip for you how many tonnes will be a trip as mine is 5 tonnes per trip and what i used was a big truck (Mack) which took 25 tonnes at a go.

However, does this have any adverse effect on building (i mean the blinding at that height)?

1. What is the thickness of your blinding?
2. Were all the materials purchased for blinding used or there were leftovers?
3. What is the size of your soakaway?
4. How many trips of laterite did you buy and what is the size of the tipper?
5. I suspect a foul play in the cement usage.
(88bags to this level?)
6. Labour is cheaper in your location, why did you spend more on this?
7. I cannot see the wire mesh and the Labour for the blinding

Many thanks Segzy,
See below answers
1. What is the thickness of your blinding? This varies due land topography. The thickness of the blinding is between 6 to 12 inches
2. Were all the materials purchased for blinding used or there were leftovers? As at now I have leftovers of granite, close to 6 tonnes and sharp sand of about 4 tonnes
3. What is the size of your soakaway? Size is 12ft by 8ft by 8ft deep - see pic attached
4. How many trips of laterite did you buy and what is the size of the tipper? 10 Mack's of 25 tonnes of laterite @ 28k each plus additional 15 tonnes
5. I suspect a foul play in the cement usage.
(88bags to this level?) I monitored the use of 30 bags for blinding and no Stealing, I partially monitors cement use at setting blocks for foundation but lost count of 6 bags at a point cement for half DPC was also monitored with no stealing.
6. Labour is cheaper in your location, why did you spend more on this? I don't understand how mean by spending more. Where was money more spent, kindly explain
7. I cannot see the wire mesh and the Labour for the blinding. The wire mesh was used for the half DPC and it's embedded. The total labour cost agreed was 180k and this covered digging, blinding and block setting to lintel level and for this purpose 80k has been paid

I strongly believe it very high, am presently building my own, digging of foundation, blinding, laying of blocks for foundation and setting of blocks to linted level with 2500 blocks, we already used 1900 blocks to linted level, remaining 600 blocks,he charged me 180k for workmanship from foundation to level and it is 3 bedrooms bungalow all ensuite with 2 sitting rooms, to linted they spent 21 days.

Hi,
Please does this 180k includes setting of block for the soak away pit and filling of the foundation ➕ charges of lintel and pillars or it is STRICTLY for building block laying only

A bag of cement to lay 50numbers of 9inches block

for a column of 225by225 each use....

cement 16 bags
gravel 35 wheel barrow
sharp sand 17.5 wheel barrow

I estimated using wheel barrow to measure the materials needed incase u still have materials available at ur site because in tonnes its small..

though I don't know what stage of work u r presently if you r just starting adding d footing German floor etc to the estimation will increase it... if you already built and only want to insert d columns estimating the materials will give a better view of the materials like 5tonnes which can easily be got.. I hope you understand this... and my bozz koolengrtimmy will finish d rest for u via whatsapp..
