PhonesRe: Can A Nigerian-sourced Blackberry (mtn) Run A Uk-sourced Sim (o2)? by N101: 3:17pm On Aug 07, 2011
Hi Siena  - another idea to check if her phone is unlocked: get her to try another local SIM i.e. she could try a SIM from another network either Etisalat, Airtel or Glo.  If she tries it and the other SIM  works without any error message, I would presume that her handset isn't locked into the MTN network.

That being the case, technically she shouldn't have a problem buying a UK SIM and using it in her phone (so long as she realises the BB services will cost extra).

I had eBuddy installed on my phone but uninstalled it to make space for other apps.

As I only use it to IM across platforms, what's the significant difference between eBuddy XMS and eBuddy that would justify changing it? And isn't it worth installing if you have friends using it as well?

Fogman:
@All,  the time and energy being dissipated on this issue is enough. I implore Siena and justwise to sheath their swords and Crystal services apostles to keep hold to their faith. The departure date is around the corner,  in a fews days time we will confirm if Crystal services is a fraud or not.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't put back to September, judging from a comment made by Cipriani:

I actually had a rethink about how much information I was spitting out. Those who have applied are yet to leave. They are going to leave in batches. Am sure you got the message and that is why you asked why I removed the post. If those who work with the agency can tell their families to apply, then how do you expect them to be duped. If your aunt work with such agency and asks you to apply, would you doubt him and think he wants to dupe you.

I am not asking you to apply, just wait till the end of September, if people don't leave, then you will know it was all a sham.
If the goal posts move again we shouldn't be surprised.

When i look at those african Children suffering in the horn of Africa,i see Sodom,i see abject miseries for lack of know how. Then I wonder why they should ever bear children in that situation.People that can not fend for themselves cannot be allowed to mortgage the lives of the innocents just because they like to fuc-k.People that doesn't know what it is all about.

Having children is a thing of joy,it is the transformation from one to another and the passing on of the torch

And funny enough, there are hardly any disable children among african children, they are just hungry and malnourished but physically able.
Sex is free, poor people have sex and therefore have children. Reasoning does not come into it, whether they can afford to support their children doesn't come into it.

However at bold I would disagree - not sure what kind of world you live in but I know and have met a number of African children who are autistic, have learning difficulties or Cerebal Palsy - and that's excluding the ones who had Polio as a child. Disability does not discriminate.

based on my little knowledge and experience on immigration i still find it very difficult to believe that crystal service is not  a scam. even JESUS CHRIST cannot convince me. I will implore travel forumites to continue the critisism. but am going to tell u that even if crystal services move that number of ppple from nigeria, they will only move  them to desert. I will be here to tell you after their departure date cos i got a friend who patronised them. and those of you who are in support of crystal service i need u to answer this question.
I understand that as part of the process each applicant are to pay a sum of money(#7000-10000) for the uniform they are going to wear on departure day. please explain this?
The plot thickens.  Ok mariofemi, jaypee4r, ogbuduyeke and others, care to explain?

LMAO! There's a uniform!
Now that's interesting.
I don't know about interesting - it's beginning to sound more like a pyramid scheme.

This would be funny if it wasn't so silly.  People still use so-called "curses" in the 21st century when someone doesn't agree with them or asks them a question? Isn't that unnecessary aggression?  Gee, that one pass me.

Justwise, Siena, Fogman, JennyKadry (and whoever has been on this forum for a few hours questioning this), you guys are missing the point:
[li]It is quite reasonable to post 6, 7, 13, 14 or 17 posts in a thread to support a questionable topic.  Didn't you guys do that when you first joined Nairaland?[/li]

[li]Interesting enough, all of the posts follow a similar wording format, almost every single one; so you're looking at possibly 1 or 2 people.  The lettering, spacing and wording follow a pattern.  I don't think you are supposed to analyse them at all because you're just messing up someone's little pick right there.[/li]

[li]You've missed the biggie - it's school holidays.  Man must chop somehow.  Two words - internet cafe.  Or maybe the same Nokia or BlackBerry is making the rounds during a break.[/li]
I know I should be more obtuse (oh shucks, used a big word right there).  You all can thank me later  cool

Christianity EtcRe: When Is Fasting Really Fasting? by N101: 5:00am On Aug 05, 2011
There are different types of fasting. Because one person/group of people do it X way does not make it the ONLY way to fast. Neither does it make it more valid than any other type of fast.

So long as you focus on the purpose of the fast and not your next meal, you will achieve your spiritual objective. Whatever type of fast we choose, God ultimately knows our hearts and motives.

@double N,am using mtn.so how do i do the settings for internet?
Lucky for you, MTN is the only Nigerian mobile phone company I know who actually has their settings on their website.

Account Name = MTN GPRS
IP Address = 10.199.212.2
Port = 9201 (for WAP) or 8080 (for HTML)
Username = web
Password = web
Access Point Name (APN) = web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net

You may not need to put in everything like IP address or Port, but everything else is necessary.

Hope this helps.

FamilyRe: I Married Her Against My Parent's Advice,she's Hurting Me,should I Divorce Or: by N101: 9:07pm On Aug 03, 2011
@ Ayanfe-Ire, you are not serious.  Please don't thing saying you are a man of God is supposed to make me trust your judgement any more.

You chose Lola over Tolu because of her "physical attributes" (for want of a better phrase).  You basically said as much:
Don’t blame me yet as I will share it with you. I know myself and I know that even if I marry Tolu, I might cheat on her because of some things. Not that I’ve Were Intimate with Tolu or Lola before; No, I didn’t Be Intimate with any of them. I like and love somethings in my woman- that is big b.o.o.b.s. Tolu has a small one but Lola had big ones. I loved them both, but I didn’t want o lack anything that might make me commit adultery when I get married
That is a superficial reason to marry someone but hey, your choice.  You were already emotionally cheating on Tolu with Lola, so you really didn't love Tolu as much as you would like us to think.

This whole "going to man of God" thing just sounds like the "Christian" equivalent of going to a spiritualist:
My parents knew I was still dating Lola, they warned me so many times and tell my siblings , aunt and everybody to warn me. Lola got to know by this time but was not happy. Because she’s from Ijebu, they said she charmed me. I was not happy. So I asked my mum to take me to the man of God who prayed on the name. She directed me to different men of God telling me it’s God’s voice. After much frustration I visited 2 of the men of God and they told me she was right for me. Even my Aunt’s husband who initially said she is the right person for me later said she isn’t and that she will not give me peace till I die. She will be a stain on my life and hinder me from reaching my greatness. My aunt also said she prayed with another prophet and the prophet said the same thing. I got the prophet’s contact and later on went to him anonymously. He prayed about Lola and said she is okay and will not be a problem. After much trouble, I told my parents I will still marry her no matter what because God is not an author of confusion. Afterall, my mum’s pastor said she’s okay so also is my Aunt’s prophet.
God is not a God of confusion, you are the one who is confused.  It was easier for others to make the decision for you so you could blame someone else and not take responsibility.

I'm surprised that you still haven't told your parents that you have married Lola - and you wonder why you are having problems in your marriage.  Lola didn't cause them, you did.  You now need to be a man and address them.

TravelRe: Landing At MMA, Lagos. Offensive Commentary? by N101: 5:06pm On Aug 03, 2011
Vicjustice:
Personally, i do not see anything wrong with the video nor the commentary itself, everything he said is correct if one has to be honest. And hey, i don't think the title of this thread is inappropriate, you seem to be ignoring the question mark, or doesn't it mean something to you?
I didn't miss the question mark.  There's a difference between "offensive", which implies something may potentially be, as opposed to "what do you think" which leaves it open to the viewer to form their own opinion.  The first few comments simply reinforce this.

But I guess we'll agree to disagree.
FamilyRe: Should Women Lose Their Individuality In Marriage? by N101: 4:14pm On Aug 03, 2011
jennykadry:
I think Jlo is the one with the issues. She wouldn't have gotten to this stage if she had bothered to make her first marriage work, infact she could have made that marriage work, there wasn't any big complications.  She was busy pursuing fame and forgot that she had a family to protect.
The question you have to ask is what examples of good marriage/relationships did JLo grow up with?  Maybe she needed a controlling person like Marc Anthony, and I'm sure he wasn't that way without a reason.

zayhal:
I think the problem is that men, and indeed the society expects  only the woman to give up her individuality but the men could go on to live 'normally'.
This is what I have a problem with; change seems to only be focussed on the female in the relationship, as if the other party's mere existence will make the relationship work with little effort on their part. Suprted has pretty much said it all - double standards.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Teenagers So Stupid And Oblivious To Politics? by N101: 4:08pm On Aug 03, 2011
@ poster, if you want to know why they are the way they are, look at the parents.

Only a teenager interested in politics or brought up in a politically active household may really be interested in politics. The teenagers you're speaking about probably form their views by what they see in the new and on the internet or the odd comment they hear people say. They still haven't formed their own opinions.

Life is still a learning curve for them, let them live in their utopian sheltered existence a little bit longer. Reality will hit them soon enough. grin
FamilyRe: Should Women Lose Their Individuality In Marriage? by N101: 11:13am On Aug 03, 2011
I agree with some of the things here, but not all.  I think people are getting "individuality" mixed up.

Marriage is about interdependence.  You as an individual, merge with another.  You may become a virtual "one" but in every real sense you are still separate people.  It is about complimenting the other, supporting the other, and compromise.  You do not lose your sense of "self" in marriage, but your thinking has to change from just want you want to what is best for us.

Once you start  demanding respect and controlling what the other person can and cannot do, you are basically taking away any right they have to be free within the context of their relationship with you.  And you obvious have issues.

Freedom has its limitations, and there is a freedom within marriage that allows you to be yourself.  So long as you are both considerate of each other, the focus should be on bringing out the best in each other, no secrets, no hidden agendas.  The problem is that many people get married based on poor examples and have unrealistic expectations.
TravelRe: Landing At MMA, Lagos. Offensive Commentary? by N101: 6:05pm On Aug 02, 2011
Sorry vicjustice, this one pass me - what did he say that was "offensive" in the video?  To me it sounds like someone who is simply making his observations of Lagos and landing in Lagos.  His target audience is highly unlikely to be majority Nigerians.

I think your thread has been incorrectly named.  You probably should have said "what do you think of this commentary?" because the title it has will make people listen to the commentary with a bias from the outset.

The pictures posted here don't add up. They don't really tell us anything about Lagos/Nigeria. Most of the buildings and stuffs showcase so far were put up by the military in the 70's and 80's. What we've seen so far are mere propagada orchestrated by some apologists. Only God knows what they're out to achieve. I live in Lagos so I know.

yea fashola is doing a better job than ex-governors. but it seems like the progress is not as great or rapid as i had originally thought.
it will be nice to see pics of changes in residential areas. ex. where regular nigerians live (not foreigners).
You are correct, these glossy pictures aren't the real Lagos I have seen on a daily basis.  While Governor Fashola may have made a change in tiny ways, it's impact still isn't being felt in most of Lagos.  Only in January (elections coming up) did I see a BRT bus for the first time ever anywhere near my neighbourhood.  When I spoke to some of my neighbours they said the same thing, they thought the bus was lost.  But it turns out that there's now some sort of BRT service in the area.  Other than that, the only other change I've seen are some potholes between the Dopemu and Cement bus stops being filled in so the road is easier to drive on.

I can only presume some of the "changes" implemented by the Governor are limited to certain areas.  We definitely don't have any pretty flower beds  cheesy

BusinessRe: UPS Courier: My Frustrating Disappointment by N101: 2:38am On Aug 02, 2011
Apart from the whole story (from the time the parcel got lost) sounding crazy, the fact that something so simple has taken almost two years to resolve is a damning indictment of the judicial system in Nigeria.

That a company with international connections like UPS could have lawyers representing their staff who blatantly lie can only hurt the company's reputation.  I would love someone in UPS' Head Office to read this and see what is being done in their name.

When this is resolved I hope you do write to their head office (providing copies). They need to be aware of what's going on.
FamilyRe: Is It True That Ladies From Broken Homes Are Not A Good Wife Material? by N101: 10:34pm On Jul 31, 2011
debrief08:
I bow for some of the shallow responses here. I come from a solid family parents married for 40yrs, my ex husband comes from a similar family. Even though his parents are together when we were growing up he used to tell me he wished they were apart. As for the response from someone who said parents who are together will not welcome back a daughter who is divorced, my parents were only too happy to have me back alive and divorced dan married and dead. When I think about the hell I went tru and and I hear from ma exes mum and d hell she went tru and is still going tru I am glad I worked away. That someones parents are together is not a guaranty of happiness, dat a couple stays together doesn't mean they will raise a great husband or wife, if I had kids with my ex, will I want to stay and watch them nurse me from constant beatings? Will I want ma boys to turn out wife beaters like their dad? No. My ex didn't understand why I left afterall his mom stayed and bared it all, so to him it was normal to cheat, beat and publicly insult your wife and expect her to stay and bare it. Now will I want to raise a son who thinks like that? No
I appreciate your honesty and openness on the topic.  I asked a question no one answered: is it better to be brought up by dysfunctional parents or come from broken home?  Maybe they didn't understand what "dysfunctional" means  cheesy

You've proven by example what I've tried to say - parents still being together is not a good enough reason to assume that it's a "good" relationship and that their children will form healthy relationships with others.

One of the reasons why we have so many divorces these days is because some people bring their parents' issues into marriage.

This minister need to take one or two lessons from his Predecessor Ojo Maduekwe who copied verbatim every condition given to Nigerians for issuance of Visa from the South African embassy and applied same to their citizens who wish to come to Nigeria.

After all, they come here and make millions and billions without giving back anything and on top of it, evade tax.
If I were the Minister, if you say Nigeria should pay N20,000 as visa fee, I will convert same to your currency and demand that your citizen pay same.

Also, I will copy verbatim every stringent condition given to Nigerians and replicate same for each nation.
By the time I am through with them, they will respect us. No be by force to go abroad.
There are more foreigners trying to come to Nigeria than you can imagine. Even Forbes has written about the potential in the Nigerian economy. I was flying from Lagos to London 3 days ago and on my flight there were 6 white men who were filling out their contracts to come and work in Nigeria.
Have you ever been to the Nigerian High Commission in London?  Most of those applying for visas are those born abroad who have lived in Nigeria and don't have Nigerian passports.  Some are people who are renewing passports.  In essence, the High Commission deals with majority Nigerians, and a minority everyone else.

You saw 6 white people in a plane filling out contracts, out of a possible 300 or so people on the flight.  Six people do not consistute "a lot" or coming in droves because of Nigeria's potential.  So if I've seen six white people applying for visas in the London High Commission in a whole day I've seen "a lot"?  Potential does not translate on the ground to people going to Nigeria in droves the way you see Nigerians queuing outside of the US, German or UK embassies.

I cannot see the High Commissions/Embassies carrying this out without a significant change in the way they do things.  And, unlike the UK for example, there probably won't be any way to appeal the decision.  It seems like a lot of noise but not thought out properly.  Typical really.
