fippycbk:Every once in a while I look online to see what progress Nollywood has made, and as much as I wish them well, it is hard to say there's been notable improvement. I saw the trailer to October 1st, and that is the point I'm making. At this time, I feel all major Nollywood production should at least be somewhat similar to that. However, the majority of films featuring Nollywood's A-list actors are still no better produced than they were in 1999. I haven't seen October 1st, other than the trailer and some behind the scenes, but if even 50% of Nollywood major productions were made at those standards, then that would be major progress. |
Chukazu:That's like asking why a teenager today knows how to operate a smartphone or computer better than his parents. Hollywood had to start from the very rudiments of filmmaking. Nollywood did NOT. The entire blueprint and methodolgy has been laid out for them. It's only an implementation problem. |
leofab:Do you fully understand the term "production value"? I doubt you do. Proper filmmaking has NOTHING to do with the target audience. A well made film is a well made film whether your target is an uneducated villager or a stockbroker on Wall street. Nollywood does not need to emulate Hollywood content. What it needs is to produce films professionally. This runs the gamut from proper writing, casting, pre-production, production and post-production. One major misconception people have is that great looking films need massive budgets. They don't. Only mediocre people condone mediocrity. If you as the consumer refuses to hold them to higher standards, what incentive do they have to improve? Don't be part of the problem. Be part of the solution. |
They should be removed from service. |
Personally, I don't see much wrong in what the lady said. Yes, it might rightfully hurt people in Nollywood, but that doesn't negate the facts. FACT: Nollywood comes with more negative connotation than positive (the average Nigerian admits this daily). FACT: Her Hitler analogy is just that.. an analogy. It doesn't equate Nollywood with Hitler, it only draws a parallel on the effect of 'tainted' names. This kind of "soup no sweet, but im mama like am" mentality is why production value/quality has not improved in Nollywood for decades. Nollywood now has full access to the same equipment used in making many Hollywood blockbusters, but look what they produce with it. It's not about the budget, it's about craft. Compare Nollywood visual production to the Nigerian music video production and you'd realize Nollywood filmmakers have been left in the past by the newer music video industry in the SAME country. Some good cinematographers from the music industry like Clarence Peters are starting to explore narrative filmmaking. I feel that's what would eventually bring a visual revolution in the Nigerian movie industry when such talents take the wheels. The first and most important step in fixing a problem is fully admitting and owning that problem. Until then, denial and mediocrity will reign. |
Nairaland National Committee of "When Will She Marry" (NNCWWSM), the floor is open to you, since y'all are so concerned. |
Why are people so concerned about the marriage of someone else? |

At least he's not carrying a grudge. |
![]() Jungle justice of any sort should be made actively illegal. What does stripping a lady for an accident amount to, other than perversion of a jobless crowd trying to derive sexual gratification off an unfortunate incident. |

Cool. With the level of sunshine in Africa, it is surprising that solar projects are still not widely adopted/implemented. |
Pretty funny. Toolz is probably worth the expense though. ![]() Also, if you like Bovi's comedy, here's a link to a bunch of his Stand-up and skits on Na Laugh. ![]() |

Seun Quick question, what payment methods are available for Nairaland ads? The ad page only says you'll be given "instructions." I know at some point it stated bank deposits, which doesn't work for me, as I don't live in Nigeria. Since it no longer specifies, I was wondering if other methods are now available (Paypal, Credit cards etc). If not, then why? That would be incredibly out of date for an ad serving platform not to offer electronic payment methods. Thanks. |
Let me guess, they'll direct it to be re-allocated to the National Assembly, so they can share it among themselves. ![]() FOLLS! The National Assembly budget is what needs to be axed like a rotten tree branch. |
EgunMogaji:Generally when you're unaware of the whole, the parts don't necessarily add up. ![]() Also, her "experimental physicist" reference is probably just her take on the guy in the pic playing the role of "Doc brown" from the movie. |
Shagati:Initially I thought it was poorly presented sarcasm. Then I realized, "oh crap! this OP ain't down with Marty Mcfly." ![]() Then again, we can't all have seen every movie ever made. Also, the DeLorean (this car) is going back into production after 34 years. It would look exactly like it did in 1981-1983, and will cost $100,000 ![]() |
Hope she turns up safe. |

Nigerian politicians rigged an election. BIG surprise! No one would have ever imagined that would be possible. ![]() |

melodyirish:Apparently, they've rewritten their business plan to compete with "gossip" blogs and their extremely annoying titles/content. |
Apparently, this is so important that it's getting multiple "Breaking News" updates on Nairaland. ![]() |
Mrdecent:Actually, people out here do. Not sure why, but to each his own, I guess. |
