wordbank:What else do you believe it is? ![]() This is no different from human beings being born with additional limbs, or some oversize/undersize physical structures. Physical mutation due to environmental or chromosomal imbalance is nothing new, strange or spectacular in animals of any species. It is simply just that - a deformity. |
remmer56:The type of flight training facilities I've mentioned do not have an "application" process per se. You just need your cash in hand, and a desire to fly a damn plane .Of course, there are basic requirements like non-impaired vision, ability to learn to read maps, very basic math skills and such. To be licensed in the end though, you do need to pass a rigorous oral and written test. Nothing major. If you're in Nigeria, this route might not work for you. This is because they're not schools per se, and would not qualify you to get a student visa to come over here and get lessons (as far as I know - I could be wrong). |
mkbessman:It depends on where you live. If you live in Nigeria, I honestly have little to no idea. Perhaps, the Aviation school in Zaria. However, that's a formal institution and requires significant time/financial commitments (I imagine). On the other hand, If you live in the US, then I can give you a few suggestions. |
mine4213:I don't use the Nairaland PM system, as it is just weird. If you have a general question, I can attempt to answer it. However, I am neither a pilot nor an "expert" in the field. |
sleekymag:Yeah, you're right. |
shinarambo1:Not necessarily. You can learn to fly a plane here, AND even fly it on your very first day for as little as $130. Of course, there'll be an instructor by your side in the co-pilot seat. Regular daily flight lesson rates around me are typically between $150-200. You don't have to commit to anything, and can go for flight lessons whenever you have some more cash. Your flight hours are logged, and these add up. |
That's really great, her parents must be proud. I'm about to start working on my PPL (private pilot license), as well. I have no intention to go beyond that to get a commercial pilot license though. A few observations with this. First off, she is not yet a pilot, as you have to be 17 here before you can get a PPL (she said it too), so this thread title is inaccurate. In other words, if she loses interest in flying between now and her 17th birthday, then she'll not get a license - which is when you become a pilot. Getting a PPL does not mean she'll be able, or allowed to fly a private jet or commercial craft, either. A PPL only trains and licenses you to fly single engine light crafts, like the one seen in the video. Second, the CNN anchor kept saying she flew "solo," which is incorrect. To fly solo means you fly alone in the aircraft. However, you must be at least 16 to fly solo . The legendary Tuskegee airmen were with her on the flight. That said, none of the facts I've pointed out takes anything away from the awesomeness of her feat so far. I guess the main big deal with this is that she's a 15 yr old black girl, and the distance of 7k miles she covered. Awesome little girl. |
ozo13:What you're looking at online is the official rate, and that has barely made any changes beyond a few Kobos +/- over many months. All these reports you keep seeing on Nairaland are unofficial "street" prices AKA the mallams etc. I think it's just a lot of noise over nothing. Except of course for those in Nigeria who have to make payments in USD, and are forced to buy from the streets. As far as the larger economy goes, those "mallam rates," do not give any insight as to the strength or the weakness of the Naira. It's fluctuation is simply the effect of arbitrage games played by the mallams and other interested parties. |
The Front page title is funny. Like they flogged him or something. |
You'd be surprised how much education fund allocations have been received by politicians to "fix" these buildings. |
Naija politics. |
R.I.P to your toilet. ![]() |
Realdeals:The fact is that the official exchange rates (about $1 = N199) hasn't changed for many months. The black market is a different ball game, and your mallam can make predictions only as low as the official rate. Then again, he will make zero profit at official rate, so.. you be the judge. He and his colleagues can directly influence black market rates. However, they have little to no effect on official rates. This means any predictions of a sharp rise in the Naira's value from N199 to N160/$ within the next few months is highly improbable. |
Not sure if it's still the same in Nigeria, but when I was a kid, it was unusual to see women ride motorcycles in Nigeria ![]() |
Why are people so small minded, and so concerned about someone else marital life. Focus on your life, and make something of it. |
Pretty nice. I was on a 12 hour flight this one time, and my seat was between a pretty Asian chick and some morbidly obese dude. Middle seat in the middle isle of a 767. Damn coach travel . For the first 5 minutes, I was there contemplating - like someone trying to make major life decisions: Do i find another seat? But this girl is so pretty, and would make the flight go by quick. What use is that, if this dude is going to crush me to death anyway, as half of him is overflowing into my space.Meanwhile, dude had already ordered a few cans of drinks and snacks. I'm thinking - calm down Yokozuna, we're not even off the ground yet. I look around frantically for any empty seats, and spot an empty window seat. I notice all passengers had boarded, so I squeeze by Yokozuna, and ask an attendant if I could switch. He said it was cool, so I look back at the pretty babe I was going to miss, and scowl in the general direction of Yokozuna, as I occupy my new seat. Wait, why the heck did I just type up this long-ass story? ![]() True story though. |
I hope you're charging a pretty penny for this awesomeness. |
I've never actually liked jollof rice. Although, I loved those oily party jollof rice in Naija when i was a kid ![]() |
Wow! I guess beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. Then again, if you don't compete, you don't win. The pretty ones probably stayed away. No. 8 is a little pretty, but i can't speak for the rest. |

clefstone:I am deetaMIN to solve this equation. |
I'm also celebrating my 6th birthday today. |
The same country where a state budgets N33.8 billion to build 1 state house. If police officers earned a decent wage, and were properly accommodated, they wouldn't resort to most of the horrible things they find themselves doing, out of frustration. |
Some funny Some corny. |
I guess he was trying to match his former pay at the House. |
Year: 2015 That's all I have to say. |
I'll start chanting "twerk! twerk! twerk!" ![]() |
Well, if they're illegal, they're illegal. The fact that the Nigerian immigration hardly deports anyone isn't because they're "compassionate & kind." It's that they're inefficient. Many illegals from Niger and such places roam Northern Nigeria and cause chaos. Chinese illegals overstay their visas, and operate outside the accommodations of their visas. They should all be rounded up, and sent home. |
