Car TalkRe: PAN Faults FG's Plan To Reduce Import Duty On Vehicles by NaMe4: 11:14am On Nov 20, 2020
AerialMapper:
Whether they decrease or don’t decrease import duties, Nigerians do not want to drive the “cartons” being produced locally!

High import duties encourages smuggling and the government loses revenue entirely. When the cost of smuggling is higher than the cost of import duties, importers will use the ports rather than smuggling routes. The broke government will get more revenue and we can drive the cars we want to drive.
Simple

Nigerians have been so impoverished that they cannot afford brand new cars. Just forget it!
There is a PAN car on this forum for 30m. A mid range car for that matter.

Solution, duty should be reduced or removed on tokumbo cars for the general masses.
To encourage ckd assemblers such as PAN, government should patronise only locally assembled vehicles to support the local industry since they are the only ones that can afford new cars. Ie government agencies should by law only buy them and not imported vehicles.

Very good suggestion

Car TalkRe: PAN Faults FG's Plan To Reduce Import Duty On Vehicles by NaMe4: 10:46am On Nov 20, 2020
PhiliptheArab:
Locally made cars are expensive because

1.Power sector in Nigeria is not working...largely because we insist on selling power that costs N53 per kwh to produce/generate at N30 per kwh or less.

2.Crucially, we don't have enough small scale industries that make the various tiny parts that go into a car. Meaning companies either have to make those parts (PAN is a good example) or import them (INNOSON...though they are also making more and more componets at home)...and either way that makes production expensive.(Innoson's boss some years ago callled for reduction in import duties on imported car components)

3,.Ajaokuta was not completed.
Then such issues should be sorted first, instead of putting the cart before the horse.
Life is hell in Nigeria for the common man, he shouldn't be made to pay for the inadequacies of government /policy makers.

How many Nigerians can afford this?

kingreign:
We know the FG increased the import duties to favour local manufacturers, assemblers etc, while deriving more income for itself, but PAN is faulting it for their selfish aims.

FOOTNOTE : Folks should learn to understand before hurriedly commenting. The FG sometimes ago increased the import duty to favour local manufacturers and drive home more revenue. Now, the FG wants to reduce it, PAN is complaining cos of their selfish gains.
Exactly. The production capacity can't meet up with the demand. And the cost of purchase of their vehicles are just RIDICULOUS!

it baffles me when people who claim intelligence are devoid of great reasoning!
An average Nigerian soldier shld be taller than a barricade, else they are shooting while lying on ground, there is no way bullets should have hit a barricade.
I understand your opinion of at least finding bullet holes on structures or buildings, but you should understand that it's a large area and with the few soldiers present and some shooting in the air, there is a possibility of no stray bullets hitting walls or structure,

BTW the NA are trained personels, u don't expect them to shoot stray bullets like the godforsaken police!
The government has been so shaddy in their dealings to make sane people like me think otherwise! If you truly have sense, u'll understand that no good deal is done in darkness and subsequently DENIED!!

These agencies generate their own money and pay their workers themselves (reason why their salaries are always higher).

They do not depend on FG for funding.
Those in IPPIS are MDAs that depends on FG.

CBN,NNPC,NDIC,FIRS all generate money for FG. You don't expect them to be under IPPIS, do you?
Most Universities have the capacity to be self-sustainable.

Now federal government civil servants up till now are yet to receive their salaries.
Prices of foodstuffs and other commodities has skyrocket.
Crime now has upsurged and criminals breaking Into people's houses and the police were called and none of them came to the scene.
Even Road Safety personnel are no more seen on the street and drivers and other motorist are driving wrecklessly.
The entity that Spearheaded this protest if caught, we will severely deal with him for treasonable felony and he will be served as a deterrent to others.
He will painfully regret coming to this world.

If those soldiers are not fished out, they (NMA) should withdraw their services. The case MUST be seen to a logical conclusion. No room for madness and impunity in this Country anymore.

If essential workers are brutalised, you can imagine what would happen to other citizens.

SimplePlan34:
Truth is tinubu was beaten in his own game. He started the protest then it went out of his control and the north used it against him. I can bet most of the ppl who did d looting in key place where northern youths. I saw videos where northern youths in fagba lagos were looting shops dis is d second day and no body has done anything about it. Never play with fire cos it's very hard to control and it will definitely burn u.
Very unlikely Tinubu started any protest. It was a genuine protest by the youth of this Country, except those favoured by the status quo or the outright ignorant.

The earlier allegation of him sponsoring the protest was propaganda aimed at discrediting the movement and deepening his irrelevance in the scheme of things regarding 2023.

Lekki Toll Gate shooting was the last option as every other gimmick had failed. This was to cause fear, confusion and angst the people towards their leaders (Tinubu, Sanwo olu, Oba). This would also shift focus from their protests and demands.

To avoid the wrath of the international community, the bodies had to be quickly evacuated, with more media propaganda to label the shootings as false news.
But there are multiple sources of evidence (video recordings, live feeds and of course satellite images). It's just a matter of time.

In this whole saga, Tinubu seems to have been a victim. His crime - an alliance with these few people who would rather commit genocide than lose grip of power.
