You may not agree but was exactly what the other regions were doing - quite on the country, the Sardauna never encouraged or exported hatred - that is only a figment of your imagination and probably those spoon feeding your ppl with hatred.

On the other hand Kanu was not complaining of dominance but espousing secession under the threat of violence, using inciting hateful rhetorics.

So stop being clever by half. The statement by the Premier is 100% HATE FILLED SPEECH.

PERIOD.

Stating that a ppl have the tendency to dominate and monopolise cannot in any way ever be misconstrued as hateful; neither can same also be applied in the context in which the Sardauna made such statement - only those with bad intent would interpret it otherwise.

The above is quite in contrast with the volatile inciting and hateful speeches Kanu continues to make with the full support of many of his ilk - who see nothing wrong with it.

Nigeria's history had been checkered with phases of dictatorship and democracy.

The 1st ppl to introduced the latter in a military coup and derail our nascent democracy (for apparently the exactly the same fears the Sardauna expressed in the clip) were the south easterners - northerners only finished what they started.

In the 2nd instance; democracy is a game of numbers for which you cannot fault Nigerians for expressing their mandate; rather than complain and point fingers, you ppl should instead encourage your politicians to be more astute and tactful so as to curry favour of the Nigerian voter - instead of resorting to the politics of tribalism and hatred in which they can never win.

We live in a country where everyone was supposedly "equal citizens" and yet one man out of hate for another people claimed that he'd rather hire foreigners than his fellow countrymen.

This is love speech.

Wake up and smell the coffee; the country was operating as a true federation where every region was semi-independent (with a weak central government) and competing against one another.
The regional premiers were all protecting and conserving their regions primarily for the benefit of their own ppl - he was espousing what the other regional premiers were already practising.

Oga just go park for one side, if you honestly believe what the premier said, "Igbos have a tendency to dominate & monopolise," amounted to hate speech; then you have a serious problem with comprehension - and you'll be advised to do something about it quickly.

Besides what he was saying was exactly what the other two regions (East & West) headed by Okpara and Awolowo were already doing - each premier was acting as a protective champion of his region.

You guys just love to lie and twist things to propagate your hate agenda; if you had any ears and listened carefully, you would not hear a single disparaging word against the Igbos from the Premier; all he said was that the Igbos had a tendency to dominate and monopolise everything - how could that therefore have amounted to hate speech?

The sardauna was only explaining the rationale behind his northernisation policy; aimed at protecting and reserving key northern jobs for northerners only, in line with what other regional govts (both west and east) were also doing at that time in their own regions - you would clearly hear him say so at the end of the clip.

Kanu and his ilk should therefore look elsewhere for a more better excuse to justify his unacceptable incitement and hateful utterances.

Hate speech and fake news have been there from time immemorial and it is barbaric to say now that we want to hang people because they expressed their feelings or what they had in mind.

There's freedom of Speech

Hate speech is an aberration in any civilised society; just because its been there since time immemorial does not make it acceptable.

Those touting freedom of speech are only deceiving themselves and being hypocritical because there is no such thing as absolute freedom (including that of speech) where everyone is free to do as he/she likes - without infringing upon somebody's right.

For example; most countries under the said UN have laws against antisemitism; if in doubt go to Europe or America and make an anti semitic speech, then see what would happen to you - so much so for their freedom of speech.

Nigeria is at currently a crossroad where its unity and peaceful existence is being threatened by fake news and hate speeches - drastic steps need to be taken to stop the rot; the social media bill is therefore a very welcomed development; though I must admit that the death penalty may be a little too harsh.

My forefathers enjoyed even greater freedom when there was no Nigeria.

The unity of Nigeria is a fraud and the Northerners have kept that fraud going since the end of the war because of Oil and Power

The initial fraud was supported and strongly defended by your regional forefather Azikiwe; while none of the two others wanted it: Awolowo described it as a geographical expression while Ahmadu Bello called it the British mistake of 1914.

Both also backed the inclusion of a secession clause in the constitution which would have allowed any region to secede if it should later decide to so; but we all know now who flatly refused and insisted that Nigeria's unity was non-negotiable.

Even so, we could recall how the regions enjoyed their relative independence; with their own foreign, economic and other policies, under a loose confederation; again we also know who abolished them, destroyed our nascent democracy and furthermore introduced the Unitary System of Governance (we have inherited till today) when they violently took over power (killing most of the regional and military leaders except their own) in order to capture and consolidate power for themselves and their kinsmen.

Ironically, the same ppl who caused this problem are the ones now crying more than the bereaved and blaming others but themselves for their very own follies.
