Your pains are understandable, but I'd say you should take it easy.
I don't consider the issue being discussed rocket science.

You see, it's not about trying to elevate one course above the other. From days of long ago, year-by-year guidelines for each course are (ideally) outlined in the Prospectus of each faculty in a standard university. If you go and check the prospectuses of institutions like U.I, O.A.U, UNILAG, I am certain you'll find out that NO grade point system course has provisions for resit exams BUT provision for carry over of COMPULSORY courses exist.
Whereas, if you check under the requirements for faculties like Vet. Medicine, Pharmacy and Medicine, resit exams are clearly spelt out.
In essence, it amounts to treachery to write resit exams (instead of carry-over) in grade point system courses. PARTICULARLY if marks scored in the previously failed exam will have no bearing on the student's final CGPA.
Although I have no solid proof,It's likely this is done exclusively in private universities, as the few government universities I know don't do it.

Instead of whining about this NUC decision and trying to justify a wrong precedence, what you should ask yourself is:
"Why doesn't it make SENSE for resit exams to be conducted in grade point system courses?"

If you have a thorough understanding of the CGPA system, and you are (at least) of average intelligence, I'm sure you will find the answer in you dear.

Conversely, "Why does it make sense for, say, medical students to write resit exams instead of carry-over (since you said all courses should be equal)?"

I'll give you the answer to this one: It's because ALL courses are compulsory in Medicine, Pharm, Vet, Physiotherapy. So, you WILL NEVER move on to the next level without passing all courses at the previous level first.

My dear, no need to over-flog this issue, and attack other people. The facts are well laid out.

It is plain and logical. This ban on resit exams applies to ALL courses where grade point system is used, because a true CGPA (cumulative grade point average) does not take into account resit exams.

The ideal is: Fail or pass, ALL the scores of any student studying grade point system course is used in computing the student's CGPA.
The only exam a student is permitted to re-register for and write again at the next semester (or next available opportunity) are failed COMPULSORY courses, otherwise known as carry-overs.. And BOTH the score of the initially failed attempt and the eventually passed carry-over are used in computing the student's CGPA.

In essence, resit is ILLEGAL for grade point system courses.

On the other hand, resit exams are the norm in certain courses that do not utilize grade points beyond the preliminary year. E.g: Medicine & Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy
That is why you can NEVER hear someone graduating with a 1st class these courses. You can only pass, and qualify as a Medical/Vet Doctor or Pharmacist.. And for as long as you keep failing resit exams in any of these courses, you keep repeating the same year until you either pass or you are booted out of the system.

NUC has done very well on this.

@chipmunkey: Hmm...You should try to know more about hypertension, because IT IS A KILLER DISEASE. Without aiming to derail the thread, let me highlight few vital things to note. I however hope other NLers will benefit from this bit of exegesis.

Hypertension causes gradual, often painless damage over time to the following main body organs:
1. The brain (with d end point being stroke)
2. The eyes (end point- partial/total blindness)
3. The heart (end point- heart pump failure)
4. The kidneys (end point- Kidney failure)
5. The blood vessels (end point- Heart failure, stroke, Kidney failure, 'pulmonary thromboembolism')

Hypertension can occur in young individuals.

However, it can be controlled if detected early through regular blood pressure checks.
If undetected, one may be diagnosed as hypertensive for the first time when problems eventually arise (such as stroke, Heart failure, renal failure, visual loss amongst others). This is undesirable. That is why regular screening is important.

The following are helpful in lowering the risk of developing hypertension:
1. Regular moderate exercise (e.g brisk walking, treadmill, jogging, athletes, gym workout)
2. Avoid smoking- it promotes damage to blood vessels and heart
3. Cut down on fatty food intake (e.g fried foods, Pastry, too much of eggs etc)
4. Cut down salt intake (e.g Some individuals form the habit of sprinkling salt on food before they eat)
5. Obese individuals are more at risk, so, get regular BP checks (At worst, once every 6months)

If there are grades, which particular brands of R-134a perform best, without causing damage to the A/C circuit?

Hullo NLers, I observed expressions like "my car consumes xyz Kilometers/Litre" in some of the previous posts. Pls, this is very wrong. Your car consumes xyz litres of fuel/Kilometer is the appropriate expression.

That said, my 2003 E0D (4cyl, 2.4L, DOHC) expends less than half tank from Ekpoma to Ibadan with AC all the way.
I still use the car for a day or two in Ibadan (with A/C) before hitting the half tank mark on the fuel gauge. However, I've noticed that the gauge falls faster between half tank and empty, compared to between full and half tank.
I should take time to do the math, and come up with precise values of my car's fuel consumption/Km one of these days

Excuse me, I've used a 626 (1990, manual, sometimes referred to as 'Capella').
Let me assure you that is the most rugged, reliable and efficient car I ever used.
Bought as Toks in 1999 by a family friend, who travelled constantly with it without any faults. Only periodic engine servicing. Transferred to me for a token in 2005 (I was in Uni then).
Ppl, I've never seen a car so balanced on the highway (car had 15"rims by d way), speed, steering/handling was great, suspension system top notch. I travelled a lot with d car and d car never disappointed for d four years it was my 1st choice car. Other road users driving all these big (relatively modern) cars often marveled at my dashing 626's abilities.
Only other thing I noticed was d clutch kit seemed to have a rather short lifespan, so I had to change mine at least once a year. Thankfully, d kit ain't expensive and it's easy to change.
Poster: I will advise u wholeheartedly to go for a Mazda. It should serve u VERY WELL, provided u are a good driver. If u can get a manual, I'd say u choose it in lieu of auto.

They show up at 10am for outpatient clinics, and if 10 drs are assigned to work there, be very thankful if u get 5. Surgeries are postponed all the time for completely frivolous reasons. Actually, I was on their side when I heard at first that they were fighting for better working conditions, in which case I thought ALL hospital workers shld join in. But more salary? For what?! These ppl leave house officers (newly grad students) alone at the emergency section to do what they like with people's lives. And having them constantly threaten us with strike?! Why aren't people annoyed bou that? They r always either on strike, threatening to go on strike, or just resuming! Ah ahn!

All they were asking for is for BRF to start paying them in FULL accordance to the CONMESS salary scale, which was approved by the FG for medical doctors in 2009. It took lagos state over a year to upgrade the salaries of these doctors to 75% of CONMESS (and it has remained so till date). That is, these doctors you are tongue-lashing had been receiving 75% of their true pay for a few years now. They had been trying to negotiate with Fashola all along, mind you, which led to the initial increase to 75%.
If anybody thinks these doctors have not shown enough decorum/maturity or respect for the sacred human life, I think you are either ignorant of the truth of the matter or you just refuse to use your reasoning faculty.
Some states in the east (I think enugu was one of such) had the same problems initially, but those states had long complied with the provisions of CONMESS. Why must Lagos be different? Oh! Because Fashola is learned, right?

GEJ is more or less a figurehead. His main area of interest (where he is a genius) is in systematic looting and sharing of public funds.
A good president, as I know, defends the interests of the masses and not a selected few cabinet members and legislators. For instance, David Cameron recently refused to sign an eurozone treaty BECAUSE HE THINKS IT DOESN'T FAVOUR THE PPL OF GREAT BRITAIN (his words). My own president can't ever stand his ground like that, since he knows nothing.
In January, GEJ was all over the place, saying fuel subsidy removal is the only way forward for nigeria (for a sustainable economy, for better infrastructure, for a better future for the youth, to create more jobs etc). Okonjo-wahala and SLS were prominent fighters who continuously painted pictures of how prosperous the near future would be if only nigerians would agree. I remember Ngozi saying things like "the pain will only be temporary".
Now, I ask ye who complain GEJ is being insulted:
1. Where is the money accrued from fuel subsidy removal since January?
2. Have you seen any 'palliative measures' Ngozi kept stressing will be put in place back then?
3. Have you heard anything of SURE recently?.. What is SURE doing to re-invest the 'subsidy gains'? (I laugh in ebira)
4. Has retardeen implemented 25% reduction in d basic salary of the executive?
5. Why, after subsidy removal, and all the new investment claims by retardeen, is the FG so broke as not to be able to pay the slaving youth corpers and some FG institution staff?
6. Why is Okonjo-Wahala and GEJ suddenly favouring borrowing from international agency? (i.e: What happened to d trillions gained on subsidy btw Jan and now??)
7. Did Obj or Yar'Adulling borrow from external sources? ..NO
8. Will Your president, who cares about you tell you "Boko Haram will fizzle out" OR "Boko Haram is an evil we have to live with" while your kinsmen die in numbers?
