I don't know why common sense has eluded a lot of Nigerians. The OP's post is ambiguous and a lot of peeps followed in the daftness. So, if the Governor wanted to buy something, he will set multiple cameras with a handful of people watching? Or was he that hungry he couldn't send someone to get him something? If the Governor was in a public function, do you think someone hawking will be allowed to come that near? From the picture, it is most likely that the Governor is trying to demonstrate something and record the footage as well.

Nigerians and Nairalanders should try and get a brain, use your head and don't follow any trash someone writes like a mumu. I can't believe the number of e-id.iots that fell for this trash.
@OP, try another propaganda cos this is too cheap Odeinstein!

If you are not a Nigerian and you know all these, then the little you know is more than enough. These shouldn't even be the basics for you as it spans way above your environment. Thumbs Up!

Mondisweets: Basics to me is brief information on anything
.....On just anything? Okay.
Mondisweets: I dont read newspapers simply because im just not interested in reading them, it has nothing to do with intellectual laziness, i simply just dont read the newspaper. I prefer watching debates, news, documentaries, reality shows and movies.
The sources you mentioned are enough to get updated. It doesn't necessarily have to be Newspapers. At least you listen to news, that's still okay. Most ladies do not. Moreover, you don't sound like someone that falls into such categories like the one the OP was complaining about. You seem to be informed or you don't know who David Mark is too?cheesy

Mondisweets: I do enough reading with the 100s of court cases and Acts that are constantly shoved in my face every semester.
Wow! We got a Lawyer in the house! I get your points. In my own time, it was all about writing computer programs that will take away your appetite if you aren't getting it and a whole lot of mathematics too but one still nneeds to find that lil time out of no time to get updated. Cheers!

Mondisweets: My point being what you consider to be the basics is not what someone else considers to be basics
Funny you. Basics as use in the context of this thread has to do with our immediate environment with respect to some areas of study. E.g when you talk about Geography, you should at least know that Nigeria is a West African country, you should know some neighbours, you should know our states and their locations (maybe North, East etc), you should know the top citzens . When you talk about Literature, you should be familiar with some common names like, Wole Soyinka, JP Clark, Chinua Achebe etc. It won't be a bad idea to know some of their works also.Same thing applies to politics, you should know what is trending politically, at least have an idea. When you talk about movies, you should know what Nollywood is and so on and so forth in all other aspects too. That is what is meant by basic knowledge. No one is asking you to be a Don in everything but at least make efforts. I am lagging in some of the aspects but at least, I do make efforts to upgrade from time to time.

Moreover, a regular reading of Newspapers is enough to give at least an overview of current affairs and current trendings that will be useful during discussions. Inability to read the Newspapers too is not and cannot be due to lack of interest but intellectual laziness. Anyone that reads the Newspapers regularly (daily or weekends) will not fumble when general discussions arise. You get my drift?
Now, what's your own definition of basics?
RomanceRe: Most Nigerian Ladies Are Boring...not Current! by naturalwaves: 3:40pm On Jan 05, 2014
Mondisweets: I'm assuming you are not AWARE that Jane Austen is one of the most acknowledge 19th Century novelists in English Literature undecided
cheesy
Did u even take the time to check who Jane Austen is before ranting? So simply you have no knowledge of who she was and what she did and why I would spend a great deal of time on her work, that makes me worse than a boring lady?
Mondi, you need to scroll through the previous pages to see my posts on this thread. There is a difference between 'special interest' and 'basics'. If you do not like football, that is not enough reason not to know Stephen Keshi or at least the NFA and what they do. That's a basic for a Nigerian but only those with some form of special interest will know Gareth Bale, Hazard and the likes. Basics and Awareness refers majourly but not limited to your environment. If you do not know who David Mark or GEJ is, I will classify you as not being informed. You can't expect everyone to know your Austeen and her published works cos you have interest in that field but most people should know who Williams Shakespear is when you talk about Literature.

Mondisweets: My points being other people may know bits and basics on other matters other than the ones you know.
Yes, they may know bits and basics on other matter than the one I know but not to an extent of not being able to carry out a good convo or asking silly questions all the time like who is David Mark? Or who is Sambo? Or who is Chinua Achebe etc.
What's your point exactly? Are you trying to say that everyone should entirely stick to only things they are interested in and not try to have a general knowledge?
RomanceRe: Most Nigerian Ladies Are Boring...not Current! by naturalwaves: 1:59pm On Jan 05, 2014
Mondisweets: I doubt there is anything wrong with dedicating your time to know about these things...you can learn how to keep you hair healthy, appropriate make up for certain occasions, how to maintain a smooth skin... I can spend all day repeating movies based on Jane Austen's novels.
No one is asking you not to dedicate your time to things you like doing. The key point is "awareness" of what is going on around you.One should always find time to know the bits. Moreover, you being able to dedicate a whole day to movies shows you cannot schedule your time properly and you are getting addicted. That even sounds worse than a boring lady ( a discussion for another day).

Mondisweets: Simply because someone else has more knowledge in a field completely different from yours doesn't make them unintelligent or boring.
You have missed the point. The issue is not about having more knowledge or being an authority. It is just about knowing the bits and the basics which I believe everyone should strive to achieve.
Mondisweets: Some of the people you mock may be much more informed on how to keep yourself in shape and how to eat healthy. Which is vital if one expects to live longer.
Being more informed in some aspects is not a problem as no one can know it all. The example you gave is not a general knwoledge and no one can be castigated for not knowing that. We are talking of BASICS. At least, something that can kick start a convo.

Caracta: God bless you. I particularly love your conclusion and your explanation of 'grasp and specificity'. Makes sense. I agree with you. Beats down the arguments here that once you can't answer a question, you are automatically dumb or boring. Thanks a lot.
If you had actually taken your time to read through the posts, you would have seen this point earlier on. No one will place a tag on you if you cannot answer some questions but that does not apply to some basics like the David Mark example the OP gave. That you even know him does not show intelligence, it only shows awareness. Intelligence itself would be found out in the course of a discussion. If you can't explain in a single sentence, his role as a Senate president (even if it is just one) then you will come across as not being intelligent. You might not like football too but you should know what NFA does.

Wislet: I don't know what you people are talking about.

@post, I think it's a 'supposed to' thing for a citizen to be aware of what's happening around him/her. Ignorance is no bliss....it's danger. When yo are asked to run, you will not because you do not listen to the news, you don't care to know the recent happenings in your state and the country at large.

It's good to have a little knowledge about every sector of the economy.

How can a person comfortably stay in a cocooned world...you only sleep, wake, eat, go to work, watch movies/music, probably gossip and that's it. Our idea of news these days(for some) is gossip and rumour mongering.

Read the papers, watch the news, engage in intelligent conversations...be interested in your country's politics and governance...if you aren't, who is supposed to do so for you? Who is going to tell the leaders what you want and keep them accountable?

It's little wonder young man and women of today do not have the interest to read long 'epistles'. You keep hearing, ''Oooh...who do you expect to read all that? Pls summarize'', etc.
Young people? If it were the older generation, one would understand. But young people with energy, clear eyes, sharp intellect, to see reading as a chore is unbelievable.

I like politics...could talk about it on and on...the banking sector, the infamous letters, the party games, Nigeria's geographical distribution and history, the war in South Sudan, Egypt uprising and so on.

It's good to know not only your surroundings, but about others too.

Even the Late Nelson Mandela asked the Nigerian officia who went to pay him a private visit if the apartheid story and Nigeria's contributions and help to South Africa and other nations weren't taught in Nigerian schools..... I can imagine the reaction of some students if that were to happen. Some would probably ask, ''How is this supposed to help me pass my exams/Can this put food on my table?'', and so on.

Yet, these are the supposed to be 'leaders of tomorrow'. How can you do better than your predecessors if you have zero inkling on the errors of yesteryears? How can you improve on what you do not know?

We need to change our mentality- as men and as women. The change you so cry and condemn others for could be in your hands tomorrow to effect. Would you do better if given the mantle NOW?
Exactly! Your post is very reasonable and I don't need to be told that you are indeed intelligent. If most ladies can dedicate half of the time they dedicate to gossips, movies, hairdos and make up into knowing some little basics, they won't come across as unintelligent or boring or not being current.

Yes, I am intelligent. I have googled it and the answer to your question is "ABIKU". J.P Blark released his in 1965 while Wole Soyinks released his in 1967. Finding results through google itself takes intelligence and some little researches not a direct typing of questions. Now that the answer has been googled, do you now agree that you are not intelligent?

Asking this question already shows that you are not intelligent because if you are, you will know that the answer can easily be googled. So, I am no longer surprised that you don't understand the points we are trying to pass across.

Moreover, the question you asked is not a basic question. It has to do with special interest not basics. One might not know the answer but at least, one should know who Wole Soyinka is. Some girls will still ask you who he is.

You can't use your standard on everyone
Listen dude, the Spring collection of whatever you call it is not a basics. Okay? Apart from basics, there are special interests. Special interests are different from basics.A girl who doesn't know the no 3 man of the Federation is dull and not intelligent. No one is saying you must be a current affairs Aficionado and know every Governor or everything. No, that's not the point. There are just some basics you must know and the examples you are giving don't follow. Apart from knowing names, some girls can't even do simple analysis of issues irrespective of the topics concerned, they just look on like a dummy. Some don't even know the basic things about themselves like ovulation period and all, some will tell you to break down your grammar when talking with them. If I like football, I don't expect a girl to necessarily do same and I don't expect her also to know who Gareth Bale is but she should know that Mikel Obi plays football for Nigeria, she should know what NFA is. If she doesn't know the meaning, she should know that it is the body that controls football in Nigeria and so on. These are the basics. I can't stand a girl asking stewpid questions all the time, I can't stand a dummy that you will take out and she won't be able to say anything meaningful, that's a complete turn off.

Sighs! Don't you get the point? Being seduced is not all about beauty, class, super hot bla bla bla. If you just get seduced by any gurl cos she has the above listed points you mentioned, then you seem like a weakling emotionally. Don't get me wrong, not saying being seduced is not possible but for some us, it is impossible except if we want to allow it irrespective of the type of gurl involved.

Moreover, a lot of you have been reciting the line, "Seduction is an Art". If it is, what's the big deal? I don't see much of the relevance of that line to this context. Is seduction the only Art?

What captured me was when he wrote that his ex sleeps with an older man for money and she is classy (trying to link the fact that she sleeps with a senator to high class). Just that point alone by him and not other people's comment. Classy girls in the real sense of it are those that work for what they own and not those that depend on one senator or minister to look classy.
No i didn't mean that the real classy girls know how to seduce a man or will seduce him when he meets them. They don't even need to seduce a man, their aura speaks for them
Yeah, my point exactly and that was why I asked the question. I get your points perfectly.

Lolz.I know you didn't say anything on the original topic. You only adressed the part he talked about his ex girl dating a senator and so on. I think you need to go back and re read all the posts as well. Something lead the OP into bringing up that issue, it was because some people accused him of not rolling with classy girls that he needs to try them out d see another variant of seduction. The OP on the other hand was trying to show that falling for seduction has nothing to do with the class of the person involved..You quoting that section and asking him to try out some classy girls in the real sense of it means that when he does, he will have a rethink about his view and fall for the classy ones even though that may not be what you intended and that was why I typed that question cos of that possibility. It is a harmless question.

What is the objective function in any seduction process? The basics is to get down at the end of the day. I see some fatuous ladies claiming to be Pros at seduction undecided. We should be careful of the kind of things we say. Even if you are so loose and you have got a good CV with respect to seduction, it will be good to just keep mute when necessary. Thank God, He didn't put a meter on womanliness. Some would have been so ravaged such that the meter will be about to exceed the limit.

The topic was meant to be fun until it turned otherwise.
Well, the truth is, not everyone can be seduced and not everyone lacks mind controlling skills. As for me, I cannot be seduced except if I want to or if I am indifferent to the situation and yes! Nothing happens to me or any part of my body without my permission, if you like have a Ph.d degree in seduction or be the classiest chic that ever liveth.

@OP, yes! I have been seduced before but none ever worked because I was not in sync with the persons involved, so, it was impossible.
in my own opinion, i would rather say tecno is doing a good job sponsoring arguements like this to market their products. i will not be fooled anymore cos as a marketer, the best way to sell is to keep reminding the public about your product no matter what. Am sure by next week, another arguement of this sort will make front page and people will come and waste their mb on arguements that has been raised over and over again
facts#
1. whenever you want to compare two phones, don't just compare specs but the price range should be the first ground for comparism
an example is the samsung galaxy core of 38k and tecno phantom a+ of 35k....... I know we all know the winner
they were produced this year and though sammy guys will say that core has a better hardware bla bla bla, the truth is that, what a core can do, a phantom of thesame price range can even do better
2. Most samsungs phone are overated and still overated. imagine someone because of his hatred for tecno going for a samsung galaxy pocket of 16,500 when a tecno p5, tecno m3 and gionee p2 of thesame price range will out-class it
3. The fact that you are holding a samsung does not mean that your purse is fatter than the other guy using tecno, the truth is that some of us simply strive to derive maximum utility for what we have and not carry gadgets for ostentatious purposes. Blackberry can testify to that
4. Fact is Samsung has the name and the fame with which they sell their products, or else how will anybody go for some of their phones when better alternatives are there
5. finally, gadget users, you have no reason to be ashamed of what you are carrying as long as it serves your purpose.

I rest my case
Well said!

Techno may beat Samsung on paper by comparing these specifications. However, if you have worked with the OMAP and MTK chip side by side as daily drive, then you will understand. Try to work with the Samsung and Techno products for a month, and come back with a honest feedback. You will be surprised how inferior that Tecno really is. There is a reason why Samsung is a global player, while Tecno is a local player.
What is a user's concern with OMAP amd MTK chips? Listen dude, when it comes to products, the most important thing is UTILITY I.e the satisfaction derived from using such a product / service. What is an average user's concern with the foundations on which a phone was built as far as it satisfies him? When you want to buy a refrigerator or other appliances, is this how you analyse the compressor and the variants of coolants and gas used? I know it is a capital NO. Don't. Let us bring in baseless points just to rubish a brand. There is no better marketing and selling policy than 'word of mouth' and recommendations. Can't you see that Tecno users are proud of their devices and they keep recommending it? They are satisfied with it and they feel they are getting more than they deserve whereas, Samsung users feel cheated even though they won't say it out. They (Samsubg users) will be like.......which kain yeye Tecno wey come fall guys hands be dis? Tecno has washed off the 'I am better than you syndrome' which is the mentality of an average Nigeria.

And you are not wise enough to say that my argument is baseless, is it that you don't understand english properly or what ? I said the bottom line is NEVER COMPARE TECNO TO SAMSUNG,, that's my baseline or , u no see where I post am ?
Now, you are sounding more suppy. Your mum had a Tecno phone about 4 years ago. Did Tecno mobile device and Samsung hit the market at the same time? Answer that objectively. Well, the first time I saw a Samsung mobile device in Nigeria was about 13 years ago( year 2000) which means they have started productions long before then so, they didn't hit the market at the same time and same goes for the Android market.

Moreover , if a Tecno device can never be compared to any Samsung device, why was this thread opened? Go read the topic again.......WHY YOU SHOULD BUY A SAMSUNG DEVICE INSTEAD OF A TECNO grin. sucess001: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 VS Tecno Phantom Pad N9

Here's the review of the Tecno Pad N9 VS Samsung Galaxy Tab. Of course, some people say there are no grounds for comparison, while many more say there are. I believe and know these two devices are worthy of comparison because

1.They have the same target market
2.They have similar specifications
What greatly differs is the perception of these two devices by the targeted audience. With her market strategy of making similar or better devices at much lower prices (in some cases, less than half the price), Tecno has succeeded in shaking firmly the perception of Samsung as the leading android device manufacturer, and this is the most prominent example so far.

Having the above specifications at hand to compare, let’s take them one by one in detail and see what’s up.

Features: Many of the features show higher specifications in the Tecno Pad. However, Samsung already has a reputation as an Android heavyweight, Tecno is just building one. The Tecno pad has a slightly larger screen with a higher resolution. Some people say the TFT screen’s technology is inferior to the LCD screen, but TFT is actually a sub-type of LCD display. Tecno Pad also has a higher screen resolution, and I expect nothing less, due to its bigger size. One up for Tecno Pad there.

The Tecno Pad’s CU is clocked higher @ 1.2 GHz. What remains to be seen if it will be continually up to the multitasking capabilities of the Jelly Bean OS. Samsung’s processor already has the advantage of first impact, it holds up quite well to multi-tasking without any serious lapses. Also, the Tecno Pad’s specs simply say its GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is embedded, whatever that means. The bone of contention here is: does it in fact have a GPU? I think we should call this a draw.

Dimension: Here, Tecno beats the Galaxy tab by a fraction- it is thinner by 6mm. Of course, it is wider and longer; after all, it does have an 8.0 inch screen

Memory: The Galaxy Tab and the Pad both boast 1 GB RAM. User memory is variable on the Samsung Tab @ 8Gb, 16GB and 32 GB. Both are expandable up to 32 GB via microSD, so the Samsung Tab can actually sport more memory. One up for the Galaxy Tab.

Camera: Tecno Pad’s 5.0 primary camera and 2.0 secondary camera versus the Tab’s 3.15 MP primary and VGA secondary cameras...it’s pretty easy maths. It beats me why the Galaxy Tab should have such a shoddy camera (yes, it is shoddy), it’s one of the reasons I have never been comfortable with it. If you will make the effort to lug around a 7 inch device, it should at least have a good camera, if nothing else. One up for the Tecno Pad.

Battery: The Tecno has a bigger capacity battery, by 500 mAh. That was not a chance occurrence. Tecno set out to consistently overshadow the Galaxy Tab in raw specs, and we hope, in performance. Again, whether this spec-stunt will meet up to the Galaxy Tab’s proven reliability is yet to be seen. I hope it does. For the sake of figures, Tecno Pad wins this.

Other Features: The Galaxy Tab still supports far more a media formats than the Tecno Pad. Tecno knows the unsupported media formats can still be enjoyed using lots of free available apps, hence the skipping of manufacturer-installed software for those media. CHEAP! Galaxy Tab wins this. However, I am beginning to suspect this won’t make much of a difference in the overall review. Why? Pretty obvious reason....below:

Price: Here’s the main thrust of Tecno’s market strategy. In an environment where devices are tied to carrier plans, consumers can get the devices a lot cheaper, from free to a fraction of the price of an unlocked device, for a 2-year carrier plan. Not so in Nigeria. You must shell out the full cost of Android or iOS indulgence, as the case may be. This is the cause of the proliferation of ‘UK used’ and ‘US used’ phones in our domain today. So, when a manufacturer offers a device with the same specifications as the Samsung Galaxy Pad at N35,000 - a little over $230 – the market is bound to notice, and NOTICE we did!

While pro-Samsung users sing about Samsung’s tech savvy and innovation, the majority are considering the Tecno Pad for more down-to-earth reasons: affordability, availability, aesthetics and desirability -in looks, the Tecno Pad beats the Galaxy Tab hands down, another UP for Tecno- and the majority always carries the vote. The majority is not trying to get the fastest device or the device with the highest memory capacity, a device with above average functionality satisfies the majority, and the Tecno Pad offers EVEN MORE than above average functionality, at a BELOW AVERAGE price.

I say the Tecno Pad wins. What say ye?
Brilliant! Your analysis is nearly impeccable. These are the kind of analysis we need on this type of forum not those types that sound like something from someone that has never crossed the four walls of a school.I ain't saying this cos it favours Tecno overall but because it is unbiased and clear for all to see.

martinz1: Tecno or whatever u Call it is a chinese phone,(remember chinese phones with tv, ac, radio antenna, etc) these phones where banned in usa and other western countries, but nigeria we just accept any device irrespective of it nature,,,tecno is a low end phone ,,never ever compare samsung with tecno, samsung is not just a phone maker, its a household name ,industrial machines,, ofshore crude oil machinaries, ,.,,,, but tecno phones are still ok and sweet,,, but samsung is more superior and generally accepted worldwide,,u can never see any network in usa or uk or any western country branding their name on any tecno device,, but u can see at&t lg, htc samsung, huawei, zte,, but never tecno,,
But that doesn't mean tecno phones aren't good,
Some tecno Android phones are sweet to use ,
The bottom line is never compare tecno to samsung, they are not on the same level,, its just like comparing a keke napep (trycycle vehicle) to a german brand(rolls royce ghost). Its true that both vehicle can move u from point A to point B, but their is a difference,,
Your argument is weak and baseless and I wonder the type of dummies that liked it. Get your facts right okay? Tecno cannot be branded by Htc and co cos it is relatively new. When Nokia , Samsung and co did that, Tecno was not in the market. Tecno is just starting off and so far so good, they are getting there. With the way they are going, it is only a matter of time before they outwit those they met. I remeber vividly in 05 when I told a friend that Messi is capable of being the world best. Just like you, he told me stories of how he is new in the game , what will happen to the grandmasters he met in the gamebla bla bla only for him to eat his words just two years after. You see, Tecno is just hitting the market and they are doing fine.
The fact that they got cheaper devices is not enough reason to disrespect them. In those MTN days, when sim cards cost 30,000 naira and you will be cut off if you don't even load up to 1,500 every two weeks and we were given the booboo that calls can't be charged per seconds. If you use a second, you will be charged a minute pay and so on. By the time competition came, they ended all those policies. The point I am trying to make is that, Tecno is only trying to break into the market like the way Glo did with the pricing policies and YES!, expect a price slash on Samsung devices in the future.

Moreover, when it comes to IT knowledge and technology generally, China is far far better and is no match for Korea or South Korea( makers of Samsung), the only disadvantage is that they just had their eyes set on Android devices only recently. By the time they settle down to develop innovations, all other Asian countries will queue up behind them.

redcliff: You still dont get? No one is saying tecno is a write off and should not be bought. We are all saying that there is not a comparism (except price) between a samsung product and a tecno product. If you like buy all the tecno phones in the world, the painment there, is that nigerians are comparing a product with no quality to the world's best. In europe or america, i am certain that there is no tecno bullsh.t bla bla because they cant pass quality conteol. You cannot compare a rolls royce to a kia. Its impossibru
........And what instigated the comparism in the first place? What is your problem with what people use and who is asking for an opinion of the software , hardware and all. Why did the OP give a detailed analysis of what was used for Samsung and ignored that of Tecno?
Why do we always compare C. Ronaldo with Messi all the time. Why wasn't he compared to other players liie Mba, Ideye and co? Why was Okocha always compared to Ronaldinho? The simple fact and answer is that because they are worthy of being compared and the margin between them is either minimal or negligible.

If Tecno is really no match for Samsung and they are miles apart, why would someone compare them? The comparism only validates the point that The Tecno Group is doing a great job and Samsung and it's followers are feeling the share of the market griep and feel pained as well.
Op, this thread is absolutely unnecessary, that being said, tecno users no need to argue over that fact, yes Samsung is better. Its a clear fact, Samsung users, get off your high horse(s) not everyone can afford it. Tecno users be truthful, if you had more money to spare you won't be using Tecno. and y is it always between tecno and samsung? y not tecno n htc? or Sony? y always samsung?
Odeistein! When has phone become a definition of one's social or financial statues? The earlier you change your mindset, the better for you. So,.you think anyone that doesn't spend so much on phone cannot afford it? The problem is not even with the Tecno fans, it is with the Samsung fans. A lot of them feel bad inside that they wasted money on phones that do basically the same thing with a cheaper brand like Tecno. All the threads opened by Tecno fans were all about Tecno and Tecno alone but anytime such is done, the pained and disgruntled samsung fans will come attacking. If you use a Samsung, use it and be satisfied with it, if you use a Tecno, same should be done.

When a biased and senzeless post like this is opened just to rubish Tecno, that means the Tecno company is doing a good job and is on the right part. When you get to computer village, they will tell you which phone is the market leader when it comes to sales of Android devices. If it is not Tecno, I am sure it will be top two.

Moreover, they keep on saying Tecno is a China product, please, Samsung is a product of where? South Korea. Are they not both from Asia?

It is so funny to see how folks claim that Tecno is no match for Samsung bla bla bla and yet open threads that stinks of insecurity and jealousy.

OP, your post is one sided and it is not a good analysis, it is a total rubbish. You stated what Samsung used for hardware but failed to state what Tecno used. You did same for the chip set too. Do you think you are talking to foools or villagers? Your argument is very senzeless.

Moreover, put it in your brain that a phone is not a definition of one's social status. If a phone can perform what you need it for, that is okay and it is none of your business.

#I don't use any of the devices and I am more than satisfied with what I use.
