~Bluetooth:And how do you know that Boko Haram does not know most catholics in Nigeria are Igbos? Are they not Nigerians? |
~Bluetooth:No. It is not. However, like Akanbi-edu indicates, it is highly likely that the attack has a strong ethnic motivation. Otherwise, other churches would have been bombed too. In any case, many of their targets in the past have been Igbos; even Igbo traders whose religious affiliations were not written on their heads or in their shops. Would it surprise you that if they had bombed RCCG (just as an e.g. of a so-called Yoruba church) (so called because I do not believe a church belongs to an ethnic group) outside Yorubaland, most of the victims would still be Igbo? After all, although RCCG is managed from Yorubaland, 50% of Yorubas are automatically ruled out, being muslims. The rest 50% is shared by 100s of other churches that Yorubas are adherents of. That leaves Igbos as the majority christians, even of the RCCG hue. In almost every small town in Igboland you will find RCCG, Winners, etc. |

Blah!!!===============================and Meanwhile, a clash between a gang of cattle rearers and farmers, in Lemu and Dabu villages in Gwoza Council Area of Borno State, over pastures and the farmers’ failure to evacuate their crops on their farmlands on Thursday left eight persons injured. The herdsmen allegedly employed bows and arrows and spears to attack the farmers, injuring eight people in their limbs and foreheads, as the farmers attempted driving away cattle destroying crops from their farmlands in the two villages. Confirming the clashes between the herdsmen and farmers to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Commissioner, Simeon Midenda said: “We received a report of the clashes from Gwoza Council Area, where eight farmers were attacked and injured in their arms and legs by a group of Fulani cattle herdsmen in Lemu and Dabu villages,” adding that no life was lost in the fight between the two groups over pastures and the failure of farmers to evacuate their farm produce. He said even though no arrests had been made by the police, the eight injured farmers were taken to Gwoza General Hospital for the treatment of sustained arrow and cutlass wounds, while investigations were ongoing on the circumstance that led to the clash between the two groups of peopl |
Take heart ndigbo. May their souls RIPP The preponderance of Igbo victims is because it was a Catholic church that was bombed. And going by their family names, they appear to be Igbos mainly of Anambra and of parts of Imo (both bastions of catholicism in Igboland) We shall overcome. |

Former ACN councillor killed by stray bullet | Print | E-mail Written by Kunle Awosiyan, Lagos Friday, 30 December 2011 Share A former councillor of the Lagos Island Local Government on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria between 1999 and 2005, Mr Sulaiman Aremu Ekun, was killed by a stray bullet on Wednesday night. A bullet entered his skull while returning from mosque after the evening prayer and later died at the General Hospital, Lagos. According to an eye witness, Mr Lasisi Adesina, the councillor had left the mosque for one of his relatives’ home to settle a dispute in the family when the bullet hit his head. “Ekun held his head and complained about the bullet, and he was quickly rushed to the hospital. Before getting to the hospital, he had started bleeding from eyes, ears and mouth,” Adesina revealed. Adesina stated that the bullet was discovered at the X-ray unit of the hospital, but had already caused a severe damage before the victim could get to the hospital. “After the X-ray, he was taken back to General Hospital, Lagos, around 2:30a.m., where he was referred back to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, but unfortunately, he died before we got there,” a relative, Mrs Akanni said. The remains of Ekun were later taken to the Lagos Island Local Government secretariat at Freeman Street for prayer and later buried at Okesuna burial ground, according to the Islamic rites. The Chairman, Obadina Community Development Association (CDA), Alhaji Raheem Adeniji, described the incident as a tragedy, while calling on the government to investigate the cause of the death. Also, the Chairman of Pashi/Willoughby CDA, Alhaji Ibrahim Oladapo, described the late Ekun as a gentle person who served the community with honesty during his two-term tenure as a councillor. |

Oyo pilgrims’ welfare board members in bloody clash •Board chairman beaten to unconscious | Print | E-mail Friday, 30 December 2011 Share Members of the Oyo State Pilgrims' Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), on Wednesday, engaged one another in a bloody clash during which the chairman, Alhaji Akewugberu Taofeek, was beaten unconscious. Nigerian Tribune learnt, on Thursday in Ibadan, that the chairman and his deputy, Alhaji Abass Oloko, had been at each other's throat since their appointment into the board by the present administration. Their rivalry, Nigerian Tribune learnt, was exhibited before their departure for hajj and even while in the holy land. The source further disclosed that the board chairman had summoned a meeting of board members with the intention of briefing them on the last hajj and the preparations for the new year. The vice chairman, the source said, complained that he was not officially informed about the planned meeting and, therefore, stormed the board's secretariat at Olodo with people suspected to be thugs and asked them to seal off the offices to prevent the meeting from taking place. It took the intervention of a top government official in the state before the offices were reopened. According to the source, another meeting had been fixed for Thursday before the attack at the peace meeting. The matter was reported at the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), while the board chairman was treated at the Adeoyo General Hospital. When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Femi Okanlawon, confirmed the incident and said that it was being investigated. Efforts to get the board chairman to speak on the incident proved abortive, as his telephone lines were switched off. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/33541-oyo-pilgrims-welfare-board-members-in-bloody-clash-board-chairman-beaten-to-unconscious |

I guess the government has issues with communication hence the lack of clarification that the refinery construction will be in phases. I do not expect Nigeria to be able to build 6 refineries simultaneously to cover the 6 zones. SE just has to wait for the second round- that is if the first round ever gets going. The criteria for selecting Lagos, Lokoja and Bayelsa are obvious Lokoja = North Lagos= South Bayelsa = GEJ's state (jara for south ).Like the Yoruba, the millions of Igbos in Lagos will benefit from that refinery in terms of jobs and fuel source (yes, it is a fed project not an Yoruba one) Then the SE refinery will be mainly Igbo-dominated (yes because we have more oil than Yoruba)Now the NL bigots (who were ignorantly mocking the SE) can die a second death. |
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 S'East to benefit from planned refineries, says Ben Obi From Chuks Collins, Awka MORE light has been shed on government's plans to establish three new refineries in Kogi, Lagos and Bayelsa States, with assurance that more parts/zones in the country would benefit, including the South East geopolitical zone, soon. advertisement Opt out This was disclosed in Awka yesterday by President Goodluck Jonathan's aide on Inter-Party Relations, Chief Ben Obi. Speaking on the proposed new refineries and the removal of petroleum subsidy, Obi urged Nigerians to see government's programmes on their merit rather than from sectional, zonal or other divisive perspectives. The new refineries, he said "were to be wholly private sector-driven, and the one for Bayelsa was to be sited at Oloibiri, the location where the first oil well was discovered in Nigeria. He said Kogi plays a very central role geographically in the nation's affairs, same as Lagos in terms of commerce and industry too. He therefore called for calm and understanding, assuring that the project which is coming in phases would in the next phase be extended to other zones in the country especially the South East. Obi who condemned the recent spate of bombings in parts of the country, admitted that it was worrisome, but added that there would be a change in terms of security in the coming year. "You can see that most of the suspects behind the recent bombings have been apprehended. Our security agencies are working round-the-clock to tackle the challenge, bring the situation under total control and keep citizens safe. The various arms of government have carried out a progressive training and retraining of all security officers. On the subsidy issue, Obi appealed to Nigerians to give Jonathan a chance, because he has given his word of honour on it. "In the past such packages come without any working document of all issues involved or what and where to channel the proceeds and why, but the present administration has put the whole cards on the table for all to see," he said. |
Every dog knows the North is the face of poverty and underdevelopment in Nigeria. North has highest rate of poverty- Report On September 14, 2011 · In News | 12:00 am BY VICTORIA OJEME ABUJA- A report Tuesday revealed that, in absolute poverty, the North East, North West and North Central has retained the poorest geo-political zones in Nigeria since 1985. The index highlight states like, the North East consisting of Borno, Bauchi, Taraba Adamawa, with the highest incidence of poverty ranging between 54.9% to 72.2% followed by North West which consist of Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and the North Central consisting of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger and Kwara. Prof Mohammed Ladan, expert in security matters declared this in his paper at a public lecture on criminal justice system and the new security challenges in Nigeria, yesterday in Abuja. He said: “By the index of 50.6%, Nigeria is the 3rd among 20 countries in the world with a widest gap between the rich and the poor, poverty in Nigeria is undoubtedly the face of the north”. January 2011 statistics, out of this 70% are the majority rural poor that fall between the ages of 25-60. 70% of this particular population is within this age bracket. In a country where you have this particularly age bracket, it is a time bomb. He also blamed the government for lack of care on the youth, “this is the fault of bad governance which is one of the key issues, because if we fail to address social economic, political injustices, unemployment and issue relating to education you create a time bomb and you allow the youth to become hopeless, frustrated and their energies are driven towards something else. Security in the country is a collective responsibility the truth must be told, that is the only solution, he added. In his speech, The Director General of the institute for peace and conflict Resolution, Dr Joseph Golwa said criminal justice system must be able to punish criminals and terrorist who have perfected the art of using bombs to kill innocent people at will. According to him, other issues such as the number of pre-trial detainees and the inordinate length of pre-trial detention, and time it takes to conclude criminal cases, the non-effectiveness of the penal system’s stated objective of rehabilitation and reform of the prisoner which new laws do we need to handle crimes in conflict/violence situations, and or which old laws should Nigeria review. Our goal is to pursue and enthrone a culture of peace, tolerance and development in our national life, with the support and collaboration of UNDP http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/09/north-has-highest-rate-of-poverty-report/ |

The agitation for Adada state from Enugu is one of the oldest in Nigeria. May be it is time to grant them their wish. |
More states to be created —Mark Published on 29 December 2011 with 0 comments [Post a Comment] TONY ITA ETIM, Enugu Senate President David Mark yesterday said Ndigbo, and others clamouring for the creation of more states, should be hopeful, as more states would be created. Mark said this at a civic reception organized by the people of Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State in honour of their son and chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Ayogu Eze. Mark noted that he supports the struggle of Nsukka people for the creation of Adada State out of the present Enugu State. He said if there was any state he wished to be created in South East it was Adada State. He said Eze with his colleagues at the Senate had played significant role in his success at the leadership of the national assembly. He called for the return for a third term of Eze to the National Assembly in 2015 and declared that if Senator Eze is given another chance, he was optimistic that he would work harder towards the alleviation of his people. He said: "Ayogu Eze is a ranking Senator making him chairman of a committee both in his first and second tenure at the senate. It is not for a beginner. This is not the time to talk politics or campaign but Eze is a distinguished Senator who should be given a third chance to the senate", he stressed. "I feel like a part with the people of this Enugu North Senatorial Zone having a common boundary with them. I sincerely express my profound gratitude to the Enugu State Senators and the people at large", he added. In his remarks, the governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime said he was overwhelmed by the large turn out of people to the venue of the reception especially at the yuletide period. Chime pointed out that Senator Eze during his first tenure at the national assembly attracted Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to Nsukka and Udi all in Enugu State. The governor thanked the people of Igboeze North Local Government Area for voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates during the last local government polls, adding that his regime would continue to provide democracy dividends to the people. In his response, Senator Eze said he was surprised at the reception, stressing that he was overwhelmed by the large crowd he had seen at the venue. He commended the local government chairman, Honourable Chijioke Ugwu and his team for the civic reception, noting the local government boss had performed creditably in development of infrastructure such as roads, water, health, and electricity. He said it was the footsteps of Governor Chime that they were following, remarking that the governor had given every body an enabling environment to excel. "The governor has performed creditably. Everybody has done marvelously. At a time like this it is good for another person to praise you than for you to praise yourself. We fell highly encouraged to do more", he added. Earlier, the out-going Chairman of the Igboeze North Local Government Area, Honourable Ugwu said the successes of Senator Eze would not have been possible without the support, mentoring and exemplary leadership style of Governor Chime. He said Chime within a period of fours years totally transformed Enugu State to economic, social and political nerve of the Southeast geo-political zone. "I welcome you all once to Enugu North senatorial District, a zone eagerly yearning to be elevated to new state considering its huge human capital, agricultural potential and natural resources, our people shall ever be proud of you, if our dream of new state becomes your legacies", he noted. Among top dignitaries who graced the occasion were former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Senator Gil Nnaji, Deputy Governor of Anambra, Emeka Sipodu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu,Major-General Sunday Idoko and Deputy Governor, Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi. |
Emuchay claimed that all the disputed villages were Igbo and were descendants of the same forbearer, Eze-Ndoki who, he said, founded the area in the 12 century. His descendants, he claimed, founded Akpala and Azumini. Can the people in question be asked to say whom they are with their own mouths: Igbo or Annang? That way, the matter is resolved and everyone lives in peace. |

http://www.punchng.com/index.php/news/item/9231-police-deny-unn-bomb-attempt Police deny UNN bomb attempt Written by Ozioma Ubabukoh, Enugu The police have denied there was an attempt by any individual or group to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka on Tuesday. Enugu State Police Command said this in a reaction to reports in the media that a vigilance group arrested a suspected member of Boko Haram while trying to bomb the university from a nearby bush. The Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, told our correspondent on Wednesday that it was wrong to accuse the suspect of such a crime. He claimed that the vigilance group did not find any arm or device on the suspect. He said, “The Hausaman was found in a bush at Udenu, which is 30 kilometres from the school (UNN). If he had any plans of bombing the university, he would have stayed in a bush close to the university and not very far from the university. “The vigilance group probably saw him as a suspect because the man in question is a bit insane and could not give answers to their questions in English, other than in Hausa. “There was no arm, device or anything traceable to Boko Haram that was found on him.” The PPRO, however, said the police would take the suspect to a psychiatric hospital to ascertain his mental health status, after which it would launch an investigation to establish his full identity and his mission in the state. |
These hausa/fulani/kanuri muslims are using two approaches to fight their war against christians (north and south)/southerners/Jonathan's government. 1. Bombs/suicide missions 2. Guns and knives. So far they have been quite successful with both strategies. |
Family of three killed in Plateau night attack By Marie-Therese Peter 5 hours 32 minutes ago Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font (Photo) Relatives of the slain family mourning their losses , yesterday. Three members of a family were on Tuesday night killed at Wereng village in Kuru Station, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Residents and the deceased’s family alleged that the killers entered the family’s bedroom at 10pm when they were asleep, and murdered them in cold blood. The bed was soaked with blood yesterday when reporters visited the family’s home. The deceased are: Philip Francis Pam, 37; his wife, Simi Francis, 28; and their only daughter, who was a few months old. The couple had gunshot wounds on their chests and stomachs as well as machete cuts on their necks. The baby had machete cuts on her rib. Her little finger was severed. Speaking in Hausa and Berom languages, the parents of the late Philip, Baba Francis Pam, and his wife, Ngo Mary Pam, narrated their experiences. Francis Pam said: “I was not at home at that time. I was just on my way to the house when I heard shouts and gunshots in the house. I suspected a foul play and ran to alert others. I raised the alarm, and when the attackers knew people were awake, they ran away.” The elderly man could not tell how the attackers entered the house. He, however, said the assailants were Fulani herdsmen because of the pattern of attack. Pam said: “Attacks have been happening in this neighbourhood and this is always the mode of operation: gunshots and machete cuts. “They were not thieves because they did not steal anything in the house; they did what they always do at other places.” Mrs Pam, who slept in another room from the slain family, said: “They (killers) came at about 10pm, when we had already slept. When I heard gunshots, I escaped through the window to alert neighbours.” On her return, she said she found her son, his wife and their daughter dead. The Special Adviser to Governor Jonah Jang on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ayuba Pam said the government was sad over the incident. Ayuba said: “It is very sad that this is happening at the time the government has intensified efforts at sustaining the peace in the state. “When I got the distress call in the night, I was very disappointed at this type of planned attack still persisting in the state. “The government has kept faith by providing security, but some people are still bent on ensuring that the problem in the state continues.” Ayuba praised the Special Task Force (STF) for its prompt response. He urged the residents to be security-conscious to avoid falling preys to night attackers. Two lawmakers representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the National Assembly and Riyom State Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Samuel Mwadkon and Daniel Dem, said the efforts of the federal and state governments on peace was not yielding the desired result because of the alleged insincerity of security agencies. They said: “We are the people at the grassroots. We know what is happening here and we have alerted the security personnel many times but they have refused to take action. “There are places called Rankum and Rafin Acha, which the Fulani took from the Jol community. The Fulani live there and they have sophisticated weapons. They train in that place regularly. Series of meetings are held there regularly and they come out from there to attack any community at will without any arrest. “We have appealed to the security personnel to investigate the activities of the Fulani there but no one listens. Those places are threats, not only to Riyom Local Government Area, but also to the entire Plateau State.”

Yes we should support them but has to be those who were democratically elected. No military persons who planned coups and got power therefrom should be included |

tpia@:Absolutely. Native folks around Jos are feeling the heat too. Ordinarily that fact should have made the job of disintegrating Nigeria much more simpler. |
