PoliticsRe: Pti In Kaduna ‘ll Triger North-south Crisis, Say Gbagi, Okpozo by NegroNtns(m): 10:49pm On Jul 05, 2009
The West is not in as bad a situation as the East is.  I will explain why I said this.

The West is in a union of convenience with Nigeria.  What we have in Nigeria is more convenient than what the case would be as an independent nation.  Coming out of Nigeria would require a lot of geo-political changes for the Yorubas and in the interim we would suffer greatly from political turbulence within but ultimately we will settle and stabilize but not without a lot of bloodshed.  Politically, economically, academically and culturally we are powerful. . . but the fiber of our unity as a homogeneous nation is less cohesive than that which unite us with the rest of Nigeria.  The one factor that led to the downfall of the Yoruba nation was internal conflicts and not external threats.  It is true today as it was back then.

The East on the other hand is a fragmented region and even the Igbos, the largest group in that region, does not have a centralized traditional monarchy in whom all the powers of the tribe is vested.  Each Igbo clan has its own ruler.  Then you have the sub-tribes of the Eastern region that may end up swallowed up as a minorty group in a Biafran nation.  So for those people you have an overlay of political imbalance.  In economic terms, the Eastern region carry the burden of Nigeria.  Culturally, they have been targets of discrimination and mockery, when they are attacked in the North, everyone else turn a blind eye and watch in silence as they are murdered and maimed.

So on multiple fronts they have more to loose by remaining part of Nigeria than the Yorubas do.  The Yorubas are not locked in they just choose not to separate. . . but the East is locked in and tearing away will require far much more coordination and negotiation to separate.

PoliticsRe: Pti In Kaduna ‘ll Triger North-south Crisis, Say Gbagi, Okpozo by NegroNtns(m): 10:22pm On Jul 05, 2009
It is sheer fantasy to keep hoping that the North would let the South go or that they will redistribute the revenue in proportion to local resourcefullness. Get away from that fairy tale.

Here is what is practical. . . there was an agreement called the Aburi accord. Can that accord be reviewed and revisited for at the minimum, redrawing the charter for a true Federalism and failing which the Eastern states, acting in unison can suspend participation in the Federal Government. This will get the attention of Abuja and they will be forced to negotiate.

The problem you have is that there is no unity in your region. Some of your people have sold out and if there is call to suspend regional government. it is less likely that you will get a majority support.

Before you look to the North for your problem, look inward to the sellouts.

Blowing it up is the wrong approach. Instead, Eastern Nigeria should escalate its desire to break from Nigeria, peacefully. Once you have Biafra, then you review all pre-existing oil trade treaties between Nigeria and other parties. Do not forget that you want Nigeria as an ally, not a foe. . .the Trans-Saharan pipeline will serve as your backbone to wealth from the interior.

Foreign AffairsRe: Nigaz! Someone Has To Sack Their Marketing Team by NegroNtns(m): 2:27am On Jul 05, 2009
I am not really sure since it is all hush-hush. Typical Nigerian way! In fact the total sum involve is still cloak in mystery. But you might gleam some useful info. from below:

Initially NNPC and Sonatrach would hold a total 90% of shares, while Niger would hold 10%.
Okay. Thanks.

Under the joint venture deal, which followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an all encompassing Joint Venture company called “NIGAZ Energy Company Limited'', the two countries would operate on 50-50 ratio.
Not a legal contract or treaty. . .but an ordinary formal letter of agreement, very shocking indeed! . . .but not surprising considering Nigeria is one of the signatories.

Facts showed that Nigeria's major oil majors, including Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), ExxonMobil, Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), Total Group, and Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), have all had to resort to alternative funding arrangements involving billions of dollars in bridge financing to NNPC to plug funding gaps in their respective joint venture operations.
What would it be otherwise?

Gas, Not Money

To cater for its financial inadequacies, the NNPC, it was learnt, had worked out a plan that would give a certain amount of crude oil and gas to its partners in place of money.
Lmao. . . dumb move! Why not seek funding on the open market? Why use prospects of the crude oil as equity in the deal? That plays to the advantage and benefit of the foreign signatories.

This development is said to be behind the NNPC's insistence that in subsequent joint venture agreements, its foreign partners have to undertake the development of the basic operational infrastructure in the industry. The company will be involved in the development of Nigeria's domestic gas exploration and production activities, processing, transportation, marketing, infrastructure development, pipeline construction, power sector development, training and capacity building, as well as exchange of personnel, among others.
That translates to inequities in the labour force. Skilled Nigerians are overlooked and potential managerial and operational job positions are defaulted to the discretion of the expatriates. The status quo; they bring in their people to plan and execute the plan but Nigerians are hired to serve at their disposal and make life easy. . .drivers, maids, gardners, nanny, cement mixers, errand boys. . .

Trans-Saharan Trade

Meanwhile, the NNPC and Algeria’s state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, is to control about 90 percent stake in the $10 billion Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline project.

This is even as Nigeria, Niger and Algeria are yet to reach an agreement on which foreign companies will build the pipeline expected to convey gas from Nigeria’s Niger Delta through Algeria and Niger to Europe.
Let us assume that NNPC has a 50-50 deal with Sonatrach, then their 90% holding becomes a 45% equity each. So NNPC has 45%, Algeria has 45% and Niger has 10%. This would mean that NNPC is holding a 45% interest against a 55% interest by foreigners on its crude oil resources. Considering that Algeria and Niger are both francophone nations and unlike Britain, France still has a close alliance and partnership with its francophone members, then how does this deal play into the hands of France?

In Case,

On the impact of the problem in the Niger Delta and possibilities of disruptions in gas supply from the country, Algeria would supply gas if supplies from Nigeria were halted for any reason. Nigeria had given similar guarantees for gas supply to the project by setting aside a certain percentage of its gas reserves.
Doesn't this increase the possibility of foreign military siege on our soil?

About a third of Nigeria's oil output is currently shut in as a result of militant attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta.

Algeria could pump the Nigerian gas onto Europe through expansion of existing pipelines or build new ones, adding that the pipeline would start operating in 2015-2016.
Are you saying that this contigency is planned into the deal? What cost, if any, is reserved for that event?

The project had been stuck on the drawing board for years. Issues that took time to resolve were how to develop gas fields in Nigeria for both domestic and international supply and what would happen if the pipeline were cut off.
At this point I will support the Igbos and the Rivers and all those Delta people that want to break away from Nigeria to do so.

PoliticsRe: A Question For Igbos Looking For Biafra by NegroNtns(m): 12:13am On Jul 05, 2009
I don't think anything is wrong in indigenous people seeking to establish and have a homogeneous culture. Looking at the horizon, Nigeria is just going through the motions of nationhood. . . we are not living the spirit or the philosophy of a sovereignty.  So definitely I support the Igbos in their quest to break out and form Biafra.  My only issue with that is with people who are stuck in the war syndrome and believe that it s only through a confrontational battle that the dreams of Biafra can be accomplished.  To those people I advocate caution.

Biafrans have the spirit and the valor and they must cut their losses and establish a new nation. . . one that works for them.

El,

As I have often said and I will repeat it here, I am an ideologue and not a conspiracy theorist. If you review my past posts in reference to public issues you cannot deny that most of what I bring here are later backed up in newscast. There is a delay period between when news media get a leak, verify and legitimize that leak and then break it into news report. Right now I am sitting on a good information that just came out yesterday and I am sure news editors are working on it already. . .they may get it out, they might not. . . it's all about their money and ratings. I will give you an example. . .it is reported in Britain that upto 40 people a day might die from H1NI virus. Well, is it true or is it a propaganda? What do you think?

CelebritiesIn Retrospect. . .a Different Outcome In Resuscitating Michael by NegroNtns(op): 5:47am On Jul 04, 2009
For the fans, it's a week already and I know we are all still in shock on the death of Michael. Inbetween and if you have followed the sources so far on his history of prescription drug usage and the chronology of this episode you will easily come to the realization that Michael got home very early the morning of Thursday and likely had difficulty sleeping and may have asked Dr Murray to administer anaesthesia to induce sleep.

Patients are never under anaesthetics without their vital signs being monitored. Even in medical circumstance and under supervision there are cases where patients have failed to recover from the effects of anaesthetics and died tragically. This goes to show how dangerous this treatment is. . . highly lethal even in supervised environment!

So Dr Murray may or may not have hooked him up to the monitor machine, only him, Michael and God knows, but it is also likely that he may have given more dosage than Michael's body was able to tolerate, thus rapidly shutting down his organs. It is also suspect that the inducement and the sleep process had gone successfully, but the recovery stage where Dr Murray needed to bring Michael out of induced sleep may have gone bad. Was this truly a cardiac arrest or was it a total body shut down?

My own suspicion and convinction is that Dr Murray was reliant on a process he had used repeatedly on Michael with no incidence. So his state of alertness to any contingencies were now numb. I don't believe he had any assistant helping to attend to slumbering Michael if he had to step away from his client. I would expect a shift rotation with a nurse or anaesthologist. . .deploy at home the same operating procedure as would exist in a medical facility. Michael did not die in his attendance, it was a discovery. . .Murray came in to check on his client and found him unresponsive and on reflex went straight into cpr. There is no doubt that had he been present there and Michael had difficulty breathing then he would have taken other first measures to revive him before considering cpr. Cpr is after the fact. . .cpr is not what you do when a person is loosing breath as in a cardiac arrest situation. The discovery put him in disbelief and shock, recognising the magnitude of his error, he panicked. . .that explains his flight from location.

I am not in the medical field but I wonder if hooking up Michael to life support at UCLA and then monitoring the body for few hours to see if the effect of the anaesthesia would wear off enough for his body and organs to recover to stimulations. If he wasn't dead and was only in an induced coma, the life support option would have reversed what we now have; a dead man. Nevertheless, that's a wishful thinking, although wishes sometimes come true. That was the concept for Michael's Neverland - a place where you go to live fairy tales and the fantasies of Alice in Wonderland. Net-net, the blades of the coroner had killed all hopes of this wish ever becoming true. Dust to dust, Michael will soon be in the ground.

In all likelihood, Dr Murray will be charged for negligence.

If there is anything I will advise Governor Palin to do in the short term, it will be to take breathing lessons. It is not the speech that wows the audience, it is the ryhthym in the delivery. . .the pace of the breathe interspersed with the vocal of the words. Sarah Palin has a high pitch in her voice. . .this is a great asset, but her pace is rushed. Foreign AffairsRe: Nigaz! Someone Has To Sack Their Marketing Team by NegroNtns(m): 4:03am On Jul 04, 2009
$2.5 Billion venturehuh  There is more error than just the branding of the deal.  Why is it negotiated in dollar and not in naira. , moreso that Russia has repeatedly agitated for supression of the dollar as international trade currency?

As far as the name NIGAZ. . .the imminent implication and the political fallout is not lost on the Russians.  By any standard, $2.5 Billion is a lot of money.  Far beyond that is the numerous royalties and access rights that the Russians will benefit in, for God knows how long into the future of oil exploration in Nigeria, and those benefits will double and triple and quadruple the initial 2.5 billion in signing deal.  A right thinking nation will not go into such a lucrative contract without some cross-functional stratagem at the political, economic and cultural levels.  At its basic, a good negotiator will go in with a very tight offer seeking to exploit the opponent's vulnerabilities, whatever they may be.  The opponent must tender counter-offers to chip away at the offer on the table.  Failing to do so will be very costly in the end.  Example. . .if Nigerian officials approach their Russian counterparts demanding to change and rebrand the monicker, I can predict the Russians will be agreeable to that but for a huge fee.  So each time we go to them to change a clause of the contract after the fact. . .there is fee to pay.  Our country is still very simplistic and unsophisticated in its approach to international relations.  We remain gullible and eager to yield.

The video has become an internet hit, hailed by conspiracy theorists and picked up by some Muslims in the UK as evidence that the official account of what happened that day is untrue.
I am bothered by how easily you guys attribute stories to conspiracy. You believe if it didn't have the government seal on it or did not originate in the mainstream press, then it's a conspiracy. Much of what you call conspiracies are in themselves covert spins from the authorities and designed to measure public response to controversial issues.

It is not difficult to distinguish conspiracy idea from the messy rest. This story here is nothig more than speculation. . .far, far from a conspiratorial weave.

Tayo,

Directly it does not! That's my reason for qualifying it the way I did here. . .

This is no problem when viewed as a regional security move to keep leftist movements in South America quiet and from igniting cross-border turmoil. However, in a broad perspective and given commitments in Middle East this is a dangerous path if one would consider the fact that this would deflate hopes amongst the Iranians yearning for regime change in their country.
These days, One must view political events in a broad manner and be mindful that Washington does not have a different democratic policy for different regions. It is one policy and is consistent, although the deployment and execution of the orders on the ground may assume different process.
Foreign AffairsAmerica Yielded. . .whichever Way You Cut This, Iran Wins by NegroNtns(op): 5:58am On Jun 30, 2009
President Barack Obama has criticized the coup in Honduras and called it illegal, refusing to acknowledge the constitutionally appointed interim President to replace Zelaya. Obama's primary goal is to sustain democratic process the way America sees it. This action discounts the intent of the Honduras congress to carry out the obligations of their constitution.

Washington is not in support of regime change, internally or externally! It wants changes to occur through the democratic process and not by revoutionary outbursts.
