I didn't say that or even infer anything close to it.  There are various laws in the books depending on which country you are looking at.  I guess the problem will be a decision on which of these laws is a best model for protecting the sanctity of women.  This is why I said Saudi Arabia, they have the best punishment and enforcement of laws against violation of women privacy, literally and figuratively.

That was only informational for people that might want to know. I do not have a proposal against what they have included in the spending bill and I think the vision and the ideal is commendable, but the methodology and the plan of execution is shallow and the absense of a well thought out implementation plan will end up becoming the nemesis of the whole rescue.

I am a proponent of using practical hands-on approach with steady footing to treat mundane problems. There is too much fluff and no one can give you a end to end walkthrough of the plan as it is now.

I concur with you Richy. They are sadists behind the mask of religion flaunting authority to dehumanise and subvert vulnerable population to the calls and whims of their animalistic ego. If I get the story right he did not seek to revise the Quran. All he has done is print translations in the local language to help facilitate religious understanding amongst the indigenes.  This act can be viewed in three ways.  Before I give opinion on that I want to say that the threats of execution and violence against the guy is extreme and is not how Islam called for matters of this gravity to be disposed.  This is not Islam, this is local habits and customs for honor.  Anyone acting below what is considered threshold of honor is subject to public humiliation generally in Afghanistan, man or woman.

2. Before now, how did the locals learn Quran and how did they practice their religion?  What is this guy's status in that community?

3. Political propaganda.  Given the touchy issue of foreign military presence and a swath of NGOs, most of whom are sponsored by Christian and Jewish institutions, what are the imapcts to the local practice of any ambition by the foreigners to fund education and thus infiltrate ideologies into scholastic development, both of religious faith and a gateway of cultural assimilation into Western lifestyles?  Are there proposals by Westerners and these NGOs to review or create new instruction curriculum for Afghanistan schools?

There are certain aspects of social living that will never be stopped - prostitution, homosexuality, rape, polygamy, infidelity. . . or men desiring younger women. It's unfortunate but there it is. It has nothing to do with your child birth or fertility. Nonetheless, there is not a woman that is not desirable. If you are in your 20s, there are men in their 30s and 40s coming after you. If you are in your 30s there are men in their 40s and 50s coming after you. When you get to 40s men in 50s, 60s come for you. If you are 30yr old woman and you are hoping for a man in his 20s or 30s to propose marriage then be open minded to the possibilities of dissapointment. It can happen but the odds against you are stacked high.

When a girl refuses to give in to your advances, she's a fronting, unromantic, closeted lesbian and when she, for Heaven know why, does give in to your advances, she is a greedy, immoral, [insert other degrading words here], cheap slut.

Rape is one of the crimes that can never be stopped.  You can create social programms or enact laws to deter the occurrence but you cannot completely eliminate it from society.  You can lock all the women behind the walls of a fortified castle and men will find a way ultimately to penetrate the security of those walls and violate the women.

The best social model that I have seen for deterring rape is the insular system  of sharia practiced in Saudi Arabia and some other muslim countries whereby social contact between the genders is regulated and violations do not go unpunished.  But even in these countries, rape still occur, although very minimal.  There is a cost to living in such a system, other freedoms that you might find desirable are likewise regulated but those freedoms form the fabric of the safety and security guaranteed for the protection of feminity against insane violations and abuse.

There's a great much ado about Valentine simply because in contemporay society "Valentine day" has been misconstrued. Valentine day which was suppose to be a holy and solemn day for spouses to commemorate the death of St. Valentine who was martyrd for wedding couples in the Roman Empire.
