It's very common to see footballers gather round to pray for a win before a match. Also common is footballers looking up to the sky and raising their hands or forefingers upwards in a gesture of gratitude to a deity when they score. Same goes for Muslim footballers who bow down in obedience when they score a goal. Some make the sign of the cross and it's not unusual to hear players or teams boast that God will give them victory in a match.

If all these players and teams lay claim to God supporting them, does it mean God is partial or has a favourite team. Is God interested in football or sports for that matter?

Ripples from the light jail term given to the former Director of Police Pensions, John Yukubu Yusufu continue as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government and National Assembly to make anti-corruption laws stiffer to serve the purpose of deterrence against white-collar criminals in the country.

I have experienced some things so painful to mention here all in the name of confiding in people especially those ones you trust. It's worse here with Nigerians in the West. I practically run from fellow Nigerians. Normally a bubbly extrovert, I have been reduced to an introvert who lives in isolation. This is the best option for me. Disclose at your own risk. Trust at your peril.

I sincerely hope by 2015 Nigerians will know how to vote and who to vote in. Till then keep this government on it's toes by constructive and objective criticism, question every policy and see to it that public servants are doing what they were voted in for.

Nigerians should learn how to be objective in analysis. In as much as I wasn't impressed with the lacklustre display of the Super Eagles, I wouldn't rush to write them off immediately. Stephen Keshi's had a short team to raise a team that will blend on all fronts. Yes, it's his job to do so you may say but do you know how difficult it is to merge individual talents into a world class team?

The team has not played up to expectation especially when compared with the Super Eagles of past glory (and therein lies the problem). I have not seen any attacking bite from the midfield or an avalanche of accurate crosses from the wings. (Emmanuel Amunike, Finidi George, Garba Lawal etc comes to mind). Neither have I seen conversion of set pieces to goals. The coach has probably noticed this and will communicate with his players to do the right thing or look to his reserves to remedy the situation.

I don't expect a win against Cote D'Ivoire but I expect the Super Eagles to up their game, lose gallantly or maybe prove me wrong. That will be a welcome surprise!

Congratulations to the Super Eagles for winning this match. However, you agree with me when I say today's performance was lacklustre. Was it fatigue, stress, lethargy, lack of inspiration, or a clear lack of creativity? The team showed no purpose or hunger to win the match. There was no creative play from the midfield, no good crosses from the wings and set pieces were wasted. Let's be honest, we are not expecting a win against Cote D'Ivoire.
I'm expecting the Super Eagles to put up a good fight and lose gallantly to a much better side. It will take more than good luck for them to win the next match.

Sorry, I don't see Nigeria qualifying for the second round. EVEN IF the Super Eagles qualify, I don't see them progressing far. This team lacks creativity in creating goal scoring chances. I mean, what is it with today's match? The Super Eagles are lethargic. They look tired and lack any motivation to win.

It's funny how Nigerians go to church to worship a Jewish God then sound outraged at the hypocrisy and racist tendencies of Jews.
We conveniently tell the story of Jews in the Old testament and have no qualms of listing the genealogy of a Jewish patriarch. Yet, we can't tell our story. We have no remembrance of our history. I ask you all; how involved were Africans in the Old and New Testament in the scheme of things?

I laughed out really loud when I tried to imagine that Bonce guy trying to form fresh dude while toasting a hot chick. Imagine him smiling and dishing out lyrics. Not with that hair-do! Oh no!!!

We Nigerians are a funny bunch. We all know at some point in this tournament that the Super Eagles will be kicked out. Yet, we put our precious hearts on the line only for it to be broken again. (I learnt my lesson since France '98)

What I'm doing is objectively analysing the situation on ground without unnecessary sentiment.

On an individual basis, we have good players. Creative gameplay especially from the midfield and wings is what is lacking.

Today's football places so much pressure on the coach everytime match results do not go our way. In Keshi's professional opinion, he chose the best players for the match, with the option of changing three players if he needed to make alterations to gameplay. What the players needed to do was to play according to the coach's strategy to gain a victory. Easier said than done.

There are factors during game play that are sometimes beyond the control of players and managers like bad pitch or poor officiating but that is not taking away the fact that players need that creativity to handle such situations and make the most out of it.

That said, everyone can't be a coach.

No, this is a very good team. The problem with the team is that of cohesion. This current team cannot merge their individual talents and translate it into a smooth style of play that is very obvious in a team that speak the same language. You can't blame Keshi or the players. These boys are playing their hearts out in a competition that has highly evolved and is no respecter of past glory. The need to up the ante and unleash their potential.

With the way this poor officiating is going against Nigeria, I'm tempted to say there's a conspiracy behind it all. Not saying there is. You never know.

The Super Eagles had a brilliant game compared with their first match. I wouldn't blame anybody as both teams gave everything and fought tooth and nail to win the match. However, luck wasn't shining on us this time. I know it was painful to watch Mikel miss the penalty kick but in all fairness he had every intention to score. I guess the monumental pressure got the best of him.

Now it's time for me to apportion fair blame and rightly so. First and foremost, the pitch is horrible! It's a shame South Africa with all their highly developed infrastructure will present a pitch as this for a tournament. Big shame. Even the commentators on Eurosport HD made remarks about the bad pitch which looked like something from a beach soccer tournament. That pitch affected (and will still affect!) the game play of both teams.

Secondly, in as much as I do not want to dwell on the poor officiating in this tournament, we all agree that shouldn't have been a penalty. Like, seriously!!! The referee either has a strong beef with Nigeria or very poor eyesight. Maybe he needs to visit Spec Savers.

The onus lies on the players to come all out and ensure a victory against Ethiopia. That will prove no small feat, trust me.
