Engineers in the house, pls help me on this one, how best is it to negotiate the amount the engineer on site will be paid??

Is it bit by bit as work progress. Example, foundation to DPC; DPC to lintel. Etc

Or is it to negotiate all at once, say from start to finish.

Also can I get an estimate on how much is the fees....!!

Thanks

Just Pay as you go. Engineer can start fumbling at any time T or even disappear at any moment M. God forbid he pass on even before the end of your project.

Why u fail in your haulage business is because you gave yours to a greedy and wicked manager. Bros am managing it my self and you have little or nothing to do when someone mind is made up.

Do it yourself you will be successful, however make sure your learn the trade before jumping in. Interact more often with drivers that own and drive their own truck, That way you will get a refined understand of the pros and cons.

Lastly make sure u buy a healthy truck and not those truck built in the late 70ties. Make sure your break systems are very effective because na for only Nigerian I dey hear say trailer fail break kill okada driver.

As for me I didn't even on my app courtesy to my broken phone. Even if my phone was ok I doubt if I would even put it on after my observation on Saturday/Sunday... Even Friday night, I was on the island I saw how taskforce and mobile police where going round locking down club houses... Was in marina on Saturday within 8,9,10pm just 1 req came in on my uber app for almost 45min it was on, i later got a trip in my bolt app after like 20min og waiting and even without a surge. On marina?!! I couldnt believe it. Sunday was even worst, after spending hours in bolt in ikeja I'd to drive down to ICM from Isaac john before I could get a req to agege... All along the way club house where all shutdown with d roads free that was when I knew we in for something serious.

I only pray and hope the world comes out of this quickly to finding a lasting cure to this deadly dieses because we nigerians cant afford to sit at home for too long because majority are poor and rely on their daily outing to survive so sit at home will even be deadlier than the corona one nine grin virus itself.

Yes, Nigerians really need to stay indoors and help slow the spread of this virus. Nigeria can't afford to tackle this disease if it spread everywhere, world super powers have run out of medical supplies, beds and health workers to tackle it, imagine what would become of a country like Nigeria that's most of her hospitals are not equipped with ventilators, a country were you must make a deposit before any doctor will see you.

US is now ranking 3rd in corona virus and employers have started laying off their workers due to hardship.

If we allow it spread we will end up staying at home by force and that will go with serious hardship. "Na person wey chop belle full go even fit borrow you money to take pay hospital deposit".

A stitch in time saves nine

The global economy is taking a hit . And with corona virus and join that with Russia and Saudi fighting for oil dominance, Nigeria economy is in for a long haul my brother , to buy dollars is now at the rate of 375.. And this is just the beginning... Better hold on to your money bro

I saw it coming because of Covid-19 but wasn't aware of oil dominance, this are 2 big killer factors to crash the economy. Exchange is already $1 to N400 at close of business today..... No one want to invest in an unstable economy.

Wow!!! I joined this thread to see how this rideshare thing works. I was hoping I can buy a few cars to try it out but the ways and manner some owners here are complaining about some drivers not remitting money in time is scary. This is still sounding like the same Danfo business I did many years back. Everyday story!

I will probably have to discuss business like this with my doctor to know if my blood pressure medication can handle this.

Guru in the house I Hail oo. Is Toyota Prius Hybrid ideal for Uber in Lagos?

If the battery is good you will earn more driving a Prius, unfurtunaly Nigerians don't like hybrid cars but very soon everybody will embrace hybrid and EV cars.... There is no going back on that. If you have a hybrid don't hesitate to use it.

Forget the hype bro corolla is a damn strong car.

Fuvking hell that car can take a beating.

Wasted my money before buying a kia until I couldn’t take it and sold that shi.t.

You see this corolla, even with all the many many faults still dey move. Don’t try it with any other brand. You’d be frustrated. The car is a fucking beast.

Best part is the spare parts are cheap!

The deal is not a good one though. 24 months of paying salary is not gonn be easy. He doesn’t need to get an 010 corolla, the regular 03-06 is the best for the job because the car go collect walahi.

Every car is super good as long as it's healthy... If you buy a Kia that has been over used and abuse you will get what you paid for, same with Corolla. The secret is not buying corolla but buying a healthy car and also avoid buying cars that are way cheaper than the average price.

Car are usually not cheap for no reason, in most cases cars that has done close to 300k miles are bought cheaper and also avoid most of this cars with 80k mileage, 90% of them have high mileage except if you are able to run a carfax report to know if the mileage has been tempered.

I don't believe in Toyota I belive in a healthy car.

Good evening

Is there any major difference between Dangote Cem and other brands like Lafarge?

The only difference is availability, unfurtunaly Nigerians have the habit of flowing with the crowd. I've tried buying other brands as well but availability has always been the challenge. You know when I see those tall buildings around CMS, they have been standing even before Dangote ventured into cement business and yet this structures are still standing.

The Corolla thing is just the Nigerian mentality.... Nigeria is a country where a certain car at a certain time of the year become what everybody want.

Corolla is a 1.8 liter engine while Nissan sentra is a 2.0 yet they have exactly the same fuel consumption... I would say sentra is more fuel efficient.

Most Corolla you see in Nigerian market have over 200k mileage prior to rolling it back to 80k as usual bacuse u will not be able to afford it if it has a very low mileage. Hence my question, why buy a car that is 5 years older when I can get something 5 years younger and can do the same work and I also have the flexibility of buy a lower mileage and cheaper car than Corolla?

Those days are gone when parts of car are limited, we now live in a world driven by technology and nothing seems too far anymore.

I think the problem is we move with the crowed in Nigeria when it come to cars.. Sometimes ago it was Peugeot, volkswagen golf, mecerdes 200 and v boot, Nissan xterra, Toyota, lexus, Ford edge etc.

The number of Hyundai car in the streets of America is more than Toyota and yet its a bad market in Nigeria. Why are this oyinbos buying it?

peeps4u:

You gave the options of Nissan Sentra, Coro and Mazda.

As a driver, you want a car which is reliable, strong, relatively cheap maintenance/spare parts and ultimately fuel economy. Only Coro is the best to consider from that options.

Fuel economy is an important factor to consider so that u also can have money to yourself after the weekly remittance.

Infact corolla is the thought to be the best car for the job and that explains why it has flooded everywhere.

Civic 03-05 is probably the only rival to corolla, which some even believe is better than corolla in fuel economy and cost of maintenance but not as strong.

Good morning.

Hello Uber peeps here.... If you are given a 2005 Toyota Corolla to drive with uber/Bolt or a 2010 Nissan sentra or 2010 Mazda 3. Which would you prefer assuming they all have 1.8/2.0 engine. Thank you

Wow! I'm surprised hearing these kinds of comments about Longrich but then again I'm not too surprised.

I've only been in Longrich for 9 months and I have qualified for an all expenses paid trip to Greece. I have also been earning every week since I joined and I have a team of over 300 people using Longrich products.

Longrich pays you for promoting their brand and getting people to use their brand of products. It's as tangible as any other distributorship business we just need to overcome our fear of network marketing and give it a try.

I can categorically tell you the 100m you see is not fake post. If you work hard in Longrich they reward you very well... Unfortunately people want to earn without working... Smh

That's the catch most of this Chinese companies uses to trap African into network marking "paid trip to foreign country" how much do you earn every week? 9 months you've qualified for trip to Greece when I know people that has been actively doing this for like 2 years and they are still receiving peanuts weekly and yet to get a paid travel trip to China.

Tianshi and living product back them promised all this but those people that did it back then is still where they are.

Peoole think they earn money for using this product but they actually don't because you get paid what you put in, longrich products are far more expensive compare to other brands. That extra you pay for longrich brand is what's is being paid back to you.

Both will work, though the 16mm looks like an over-kill.
He would probably buy you a 10mm for the load and claim money for 16mm, if he knows you dont know anything about thickness of wires. grin grin

The reason l said BOTH will work is that if you envisage that your load will be so heavy (five split A.C. Two Cookers, Water Heaters, Boiling Kettle..ALL WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY), you might want to consider using a thick enough load wire of 16mm, to prevent overloading, possible melting of wire and other possible electrical problems....but l bet no one puts on all those heavy appliances at a go!

16mm wires are usually used for Service wire while 10mm is used for load wires, in residential buildings

I hope you intend to source for your wires from REPUTABLE Suppliers, YOURSELF, otherwise, l just pity you.
. cry
Let the Contractor list all the wires he wants, BUY them yourself (again, l repeat, from a reputable supplier or direct from the company) and keep them somewhere safe (within your property, like a strong room) and then let him have the wires according to his daily needs, ensuring that you verify where he used the last quantity you gave him, before giving out the next batch.
Otherwise, you will be buying a lot of wires that would disappear into thin air.
You wont believe that l still have wires that can run a threebedroom flat as EXCESS LEFTOVER, from what l used in running my building, and l did three phase installations all through! These wires is what my contractor would have stolen, if not that l was not vigilant....
and YES, the Contractor is on this Nairaland Thread. We eventually fell-out because his plans just did not work. grin grin

Please note: It is essential you buy original wires, direct from the producing companies like Coleman, etc.

Thanks for the explanation, the electrician that quoted 10mm did said if I get a 16mm quote they will end up buying a 10mm however am also looking at the future assuming electricity becos stable in the near future and everyone switches to electric powered appliances like hot plates
Electric coolers, 100% microwave usage etc. I this are the reason I will want to get the 16mm instead.

Yes I would be buying the wires myself and my security will handle the storage while they work and making sure wires are not jumping over the fence.

Thanks so much, exactly my thoughts/fear. My wife's cousin is into it. So she's planning on joining but personally i don't want to join.

Ironically we are using the toothpaste, so she just said why don't we register then get commission for buying these products.

I will give it a deep thought before giving her the approval.

Same here, we use all the products at home the only thing left is to have the factory in our living room and my wife sells the products on eBay and Amazon too. She wanted to be a stockist/distributor but I would rather put my money were my eyes can see them.

My wife do the Longrich business, honestly for me I don't believe in chain/network marketing but unfortunately I can't get her to stop since she's already addicted to it... She did sign me and my kids up despite she knows am not going to stress myself doing it... I believe what interest Nigerians most is when they tell them you will travel out of the country after reaching a particular level which takes them a life time to reach. I see houses worth over 100M naira on her wats app and she tells me someone built it with the Longrich business after joining for few years and I can tell those are fake post just to lure people into it... Do your research, if you like it go ahead.

not detailed enough

What do you have in each flat? Number of AC? Number Of water heater etc

I made provision for 4 AC on all flat and 2 water heater in each flat, however it will be difficult to calculate the load since it's going to be a rental property. Maybe I will just go with 16mm for the load since we don't have fire service in Nigeria.

Unfortunately everyone doesn't have the capability to hire a professional and for those that can, they still need a forum like this to guide them because the so called proffesional knows most of the times clients are usually a first time builders and have little or no understanding about the process of acquiring a land and building to the very end, hence they are out there to milk you dry.

Am sure no one in this group will want Julius Berger to build for them despite we know they can deliver, instead we prefer the lower level proffesionals just to minimize cost; if you still can't afford the lower level that's when we start looking for Baba Tawa and Togo boys. It's just what u can afford.

If you can't afford Yes Saint Lauren, buy Gap and if u still can't afford Gap buy Chinese Gucci.

Dubemcapital1:

Do it yourself: interprets that a novice, a learner or an apprentice wants to get something done from the experience he has gathered from someone who "knows". But what we are discussing here is "Anything and everything in building construction" therefore, if they really want to do it themselves the right way (which is very important) you need a professional guide in that field to achieve a result that is void of regret.

Is just a mentality, people don't want to go to the hospital because they think or believe they will spend more at the hospital so they resort to self-medication which is very dangerous and much more expensive.

Hire a professional today it pays and I bet you it is cheaper.

Thanks.
